I really wish Miyagi would lived long enough to see what Cobra Kai has done. Literally connecting 2 generations. And he was the patriarch of the whole thing.
not jsut the 80's, us kids from the 90's as well, even the 2000's kids and beyond, this movie transcends generations. An all time classic that can be enjoyed by any age and gender, any race and religion. RIP Pat Morita.
Cobra Kai is perhaps the best thing that connected my generation with the youth. I was 13 when I saw Karate Kid. I am 50 now and my 11-year-old son and I just finished Cobra Kai season 4. But before we watched Season 1, we first watched the Karate Kid series so my boy understands cobra Kai. Genius. Pure genius. And I appreciate Mr. Miyagi even more.
I'm 28 and I love the karate kid series. They're certain movies that are literally generational. Lord of the rings, Harry Potter, karate kid, Beverly hills cop those big franchises. There's a handful and all are such comforts so awesome.
I'm 10 years younger than you and my kid is 14 but other than that, I did the exact same thing. You can't fully appreciate Cobra Kai without having seen Karate Kid 1-3.
Same here. I was an 80’s kid and it was my favourite movie. I had Billy Zabka posters all over my wall😂. My 16 and 19 yr olds love Cobra Kai. My daughter got her boyfriend hooked on Cobra Kai 2 weeks ago but made him watch first 3 movie before watching the show. She told him that it would have more meaning if he watched the movies first. He is now hooked too.
The scene when Miyagi gets drunk makes me cry now as an adult. Miyagi showed that even though he kicks ass but also had a sensitive side. I could relate because I lost a fiancée and if Miyagi can move on so can I 🥺. I’m glad they kept that scene.
Hey man, you can get through this, Its dark right now. But theres so much life to live. And that means good times will come through again. Our lives seem to have their own seasons, and with that things dont stay the same forever. We lose and we lose. But we also find new horizons. Hang in there. Its not going to be easy, but ther will be a time where you can smile again.
40 here as well. This by far is my favorite childhood movie. And out of all the reboots of T.V. shows and movies from our era we’ve seen over the past years, Cobra Kai is the only one that is being done right.
I was 16 when the movie came out, and I resonated a lot with Daniel, always bullied, always picked on. I also looked a little bit like him. I started Karate right after it and learned a lot. My Dojo didn't have a Mr. Miyagi, but close. And I also met my first love there. This movie means a lot to me.
The original ending was going be the opening scene from KK 2 but after seeing this scene with the background music they realized this had to be the ending.
@8:30 was an interesting trip down memory lane for me. In the mid 70's I had a Taekwondo instructor that said a similar thing.(not to me but other students)Belts? Belts are for holding your pants up. Your skills are not represented by what color is strapped around your gee. Not to brag, but I was his #1 student because I never questioned anything he said. I trusted him with my life. When other students were off on summer vacations, I was diligently still showing up. Often the only student he had at times. While this was not great for his business, I was thrilled to have the extra attention and time perfecting my skills. When he finally had to close the school do to lack of funds, he presented me a belt that he said might impress someone someday.(had been wearing a white belt the whole time) I told him thanks, but I was never in it for belt degrees. :) In some small aspects, I was already living the story of the Karate Kid long before it was a movie. ;)
I was born in ‘78 and karate kid is one of my favorite all time films! It’s amazing now to sit here and re-live this magical movie with my 3 kids! The movie soundtrack alone gives me goosebumps..
The way this movie was executed is great with all there talent. Ralph an Pats chemistry, directed very well an Conti's musical genius! Very grateful that Cobra kai is such a success to the newer generation an they can see the originals. 🥋
My nephew was being bullied at school so we showed him the karate kid and he decided he wanted to take karate lessons. One day. He said him and his bully were now friends. Apparently they had a face off and my nephew was able to handle him and when he could’ve hurt him, he showed him mercy and that turned the tide. He helped the bully from the floor and they’ve been friends ever since
17:23 It's touching how both Pat Morita and Ralph give great credit for the crane kick to Billy Zabka. It's like they're trying to do justice to Cobra Kai's blond boy. Pat wanted a Karate Kid 5 with Billy along with Miyagi and Daniel, it's as if in Cobra Kai this wish was finally granted.
It’s amazing how something that has come from a classic movie of the 80’s has brought new generations to love it, for example Back to the Future musical off the back of the movie and now Cobra Kai off the back of the Karate Kid movies.
Its just the thing, continuation works and very nostalgic for people my age who grew up in the 80s, while having a touch of today's time. As a kid watching this in the 80's we all related and pretty much agreed that Johnny was the bully but with never questioning why. As a 45 year old man watching this YT, this is the very first time my eyes were opened to Kreese's corruption of his students when he told Johnny to "sweep the leg" and you can see Johnny shifting his eyes around trying to process the evil that he's just been told to perform. It Inspired me. I felt like that at those Karate tournaments in the 90's Nervous, scared, excited, etc. It Really brings back wonderful memories for me. Then growing up and Teaching Kids and adults Karate and Martial arts was a Blessing. I Loved this Movie and Series too, Cobra Kai-- An awesome come back and continuation of the saga and introducing it to all the Millennials too is pretty awesome. My 13 year old son Loves it too. 😊 An AWESOME 80'S FILM a CLASSIC that will go down in History!!!!
i loved all 5 movies
Miyagi Forever ♥
Thanks for watching! Please share & subscribe! 😊
Just realized the "give him a body bag" kid, ends up in a body bag in kobra kai, funny little call-back.
I remember when I found out Mr miyagi could not do karate in real life now I'm finding out he has an American accent in real life also
Yep, had the same feeling first time I've realized that on his interviews.
This clip from Pat Morita's stand-up comedy routine should shock you further - th-cam.com/video/rMrVk4anT6w/w-d-xo.html

Good link! Only gripe, you have nothing to do with, is the time stamp right in his face
Billy was such a natural in martial arts. If he continued training he would be really good.

I feel like Johnny should have said that to Dan in Cobra Kai when Dan is drunk and at Johnny's place after Silver beat him up: "In case you don't remember, I handed you the trophy when you won that day. I always thought you were the better man. Be the better man now."
drunk miyagi is the most hilarious moment in the film.
RIP Pat Morita!! A soul too beautiful for this earth 💜🙏🏼
I LOVE these movies...hard stop. And Kobra Kai on Netflix is AMAZING!!! You get a whole other take on things. It is SUCH a great show! Wish Pat could be arould to have see it.

Who here cried like a bitch, seeing Mr Miyagi flashback on the 1st season of Cobra Kai. 39yo btw.
Yes Mr Miyagi lives on forever! Played by Mr Pat Morita, Especially with this generation! But it’s also a reminder of being a young preteen in the 80’s.
I am a Practising karate student and grew up with karate kid, Now 48 and my kids have seen all 3 karate kid movies and are hooked on Kobra kai. It's unique a True Classic. 👊 Osu!
The rawness...💯
