- No better voice could embody Trump's maniacal, power-hungry ranting than 'War for the Planet of the Apes' star Andy Serkis' famous character.

GIVE THIS MAN AN OSCAR!
AND A RING!
What's an Oscar, precious?
Precioussssss....from those nasty little hobbitsss
And a banana
Give this man a shield
NOT JUST A RING
HIS PRECIOUSSSS.....
Loved how Serkis jumped on the chair to get into character! A MASTER!
Dawn Welch He’s a method actor - it’s part of what they do!
Without hesitation
He really is a blast
@@Roquea.207 Amazing
Yes but it unnerved me a bit because I remember he said doing the Gollum voice hurts his throat
1:16 Andy describing Gollum as "a 3.5 ft ring junkie" just made my day
Suaron’s ring is like Meth and Heroin combined. Completely destroys you
It was a fantastic inspiration
@@Donillini have you seen him reading the part when he auditioned for LOTR? He looked and acted like a total meth head giving voice to Gollum
Well...actually
Because of privacy issues Movie Characters are often used to demonstrate how Psychiatric assessments are done and then presented to a court
LtCol Kilgore
Col Jessup
(Jack Nicolson has provided plenty of complex characters)
Alex Forrest (Fatal Attraction)
Review the character in the films as if they were a patient, then defend or challenge that diagnosis given the limits of your legal systems criteria for criminal culpability and mental illness
And Gollum is a common one for Mental Status exams
How would you describe his
Appearance and behaviours
Attitude
Speech and Motor function
Affect/mood
Thought and perceptions
Then apply DSM criteria
psychotic?
Multiple personalities (disassociation)?
And...one of the better "fits" for Gollum's behaviour
Is substance abuse/addiction
I don't know if Mr Serkis knew that when he took on the role
But if he didn't, he is a very good amateur Psychiatrist
sounds like the description for a gay midget
Andy is mad talented
Facts !
He certainly is; and like all of the LOTR actors I've seen so far, he's so modest, down-to-earth and has no arrogance whatsoever.
I hope he wins an Oscar for his performances
And mad nice. I met him on the street half a year ago and he was such a cool guy.
Omg yesssss
"What's Covfefe, Precious?" "Cov-fe-fe! Boil 'em, Mash 'em, Stick 'em in a stew!"
Po-ta-to.
A seriously missed opportunity for that reference. Kudos for making it here at least.
Damnit, was just about to comment this. Well done sir
Aly H As Stephen said, "No one knows."
murf0118 Stupid fat Hobbit!
I'd pay to see a "Gollum reads Tweets" series.
Gareth Thomas for real lol
Seriously, how can we arrange this!
seriously seriously
Gareth Thomas, I'd definitely pay to be entertained by Andy. 👍
Can't overuse or will loose its funny. Maybe just Drumph treats bc they work so well cuz they evil.
Absolute crime that he doesn't qualify to be nominated for an Oscar whilst doing motion capture, let alone win one. The man is so gifted!
Agreed, and it wasn't just motion capture, it was more like they just added the makeup in post production instead of before filming. No special effects can duplicate those facial expressions, especially the eyes, with that kind of detail and complexity. That's all Andy.
I was going to write this until I saw yours absolutely right. Give this man an Oscar...
He deserves it .
Oh my God, 100% agree! How can the freaking Academy not recognize his talent!? This man freaking DESERVES AN OSCAR!
I'm starting to think he might just be the most talented actor I've ever seen. Literaly everything he does I'm instantly and fully immersed and amazed. So, I certainly agree
The fact that he called Gollum a ring junkie is hilarious.
Imagine Siri with Gollums's voice
Satnav... maybe?
We already have Darth Vader and Master Yoda available with Tomtom... where's Gollum?
19Enigma12 that would be cool
I would pay for this.
Hey Siri, take me home.
TAKE YOU TO PRECIOUS
Hey Siri, take me to my moms house.
You wish to go into Mordor?
I would love it if this was done
I didn’t realize that Andy Serkis did the voice without any digitalization. I thought it had to be run through some computer program to sound like that. I was blown away!
yes i saw a lot of videos of behind the scenes before stumbling onto this one.. to be actually able to do it without any voice modulating device is a great feat .... damn how much i wish for an oscar for such a great performer !!!!!
The only thing they needed to digitalise was how it looked n also did u see his precious glob of spit?
Yeah, he still got it😄
He is a genius!!
I have heard that if he does it too long, it strains his voice. Mel Blanc had the same problem with Yosemite Sam's voice.
That light, athletic, spontaneous, PHYSICAL leap into character stole my heart. This man is a treasure.
The guy without hesitation just jumped up in the seat and became the legend that he is.
Just WoW.
I love that his instinct was to go into gollum position, can't do the voice sitting straight.
Wasn't instinct. It was rehearsed. Every show is rehearsed before hand.
This is common knowledge these days.
Schmelly Fannie Bet you he would do it even if it wasn't rehearsed. Talented and cool dude.
Suzette Glez yeah full character
Schmelly Fannie he's an actor so why not, you know, act? It's common knowledge these days.
Cynicism reigns supreme these days. Nobody just believes what they're seeing anymore. There always has to be a cry of FAKE from some jerk.
I've never seen Serkis in interviews before, and I know him only from a few roles, but when he instantly jumped on the chair to get into character, WOW, he became my new favourite actor/person
The guy is incredible in everything, not just motion-capture.
Andy Serkis doesn't need cgi to become Gollum. I could totally see Gollum and Smeagol reading those tweets. What a phenomenal actor.
If you like guys jumping on chairs, then you're gonna love a guy called Tom Cruise.
He's not just doing that as a gag, he needs to hunch over to get the voice right. He also used to drink something he called "Gollum Juice" in order to get that throaty, phlegmy Gollum voice.
I know now! - I've been wanting to watch Death of a Superhero for some time, but now I will, along with other movies he's not motion-captured. Also, I'll watch all the interviews
I met this guy 5 years ago, recognized him immediately. He was so humble and took a few photos with me and chatted.
Cool
Did he gave you a Gollum impression?
I love the look on Stephen's face while he's doing his Gollum voice...
He voices Caesar, Smeagol, Snoke and acts as a decent side villain in the Avengers series, along with playing King Kong. What a true legend.
@Jimbo Bimbo And basically every orc with a line in LOTR.
He was pretty badass in Deathwatch as well, an old but fantastic horror movie taking place in a haunted German trench in WWI
He was good in The Prestige too. And now he will be in The Batman.
Also Godzilla's eyes
Seriously I feel like Ulysses klaw could have been so much more
In my opinion, he was robbed of at least one Oscar as best supporting actor for Gollum.
i still remember when saw the two towers first time in the cinema, the audience was stuned by gollum/smeagol character wich was posible thanks to Andy Serkis. was just amazing
For a second I stared at your comment and thought "I can't remember writing that".. uncanny feeling :)
Fingers Stuned is the right word indeed. It was mind blowing.
+LordSesshaku Sorry to be that guy.. But "Stuned" isn't exactly the right word for it..
LR If you're refering to the lack of a second n. You're not forgiven, english it's not my native language so no need to be condescending.
That was epic. He didn't just speak like Gollum, he became Gollum
The depth that he brought to Gollum was incredible, the pain, confusion, grief, and rage was palpable. It was one of the best jobs acting as I have ever seen, I felt pity for that poor broken creature as much as Bilbo or Frodo did looking at his face. ❤❤❤
I just love how he automatically jumps on the chair to Gollum. He's not just doing the voice, he's doing the whole character. Such a great actor.
mineMissHellsing u mean smeagol
Martin Tang No, Gollum. Sméagol represents Gollum's good side. What Serkis does in this clip is playing Gollum.
He constantly has two personality's. When he sounds happy that's Smeagol, when he sounds spiteful thats Gollum.
Rick Baker and when he’s horny that’s me
Hilde Bos - So you know Smeagol was his name when his cousin found the Ring at the bottom of the Anduin River. Gollum is what he became once he killed his cousin because of his lust for the ring.
Gollum represents his tortured soul controlled and consumed by the power of "The One Ring - The Ring of Power".
He was always Still partially Smeagol, which yes was the good part of him barely holding on. It's the reason Bilbo and Frodo took pity on him and spared his life.
Anyway that was awesome to watch aye? Andy Serkis is amazing!
Admit it... Your smile fucking glistened right when he jumped on the couch and spoke
W.D.K. Podcast Damn right, I did🤣
Andy Serkis is haunting!! Jeezzz, 'em shivers caught me in between that smile
More! I want to hear Gollum read more Trump tweets! #Precious
W.D.K. Podcast look at Stephens face when he finished reading that first tweet..he looks like he's about to start giggling and clapping like a fan girl..it's beautiful
W.D.K. Podcast I had the biggest dumb smile the entire time he was reading the tweets.
Andy Serkis is one of the most underrated people I've ever seen. Brilliant, versatile actor.
“Could I have you read Trump’s tweets as Gollum?”
Mr. Andy Serkis, acting master:
“Lemme just get into full character-[boing!]”
This guy deserves every cent he makes!!!!!!
And more, I don't know that he gets paid that well but he is really rather amazing. I appreciate that Stephen took the time to make that distinction about him being more than just a voice, but a full on actor.
*Roberto Castro* And more. He ended the discussion, ever since the dawn of digital animation, wether digital actors could replace real actors.
The answer is no.
No he doesn't. He deserves a *shitload MORE*.
GIVE HIM ALL THE MONEY!!
Roberto Castro and more.
"What's covfefe, precious?"
XD I died!
chwen hoou It was too much of a riddle for him.
no one knows.
That's when I lost it. My favorite part!
Met Andy back in 2013 in New Orleans. Nicest guy ever. My friend and I were torn on whether to approach him because he was on vacation with his family but he was super nice. He was thrilled to find out we were huge fans. His wife even took the picture for us! Thanks again Andy!
4:00 His performance is so powerful that he commands people to hold their breath for a second just to hear him.
"What's covfefe, precious!?"
Pure gold.
*Samwise Trump* ; "COV-FEFE! Bigly, Thigh-land, The Muslims and The Jews! With big, beautiful hands; some would even say the best hands. Even Sleepy Joe can't say no to that."
I love how when he was first handed that card, he so very easily and so fluidly hopped up on the seat!!! Wow, such great talent. So very impressive. I remember reading about how doing that voice of Gollum left him with a sore throat and a real hoarseness afterwards. It is so impressive that he came up with that voice himself, from his cat hacking up a fur-ball.
Cov-FE-FE. Brew it. Ice it. Stick it in a cup.
Maybe it was some weird premonition for Covid?
I totally forgot about covfefe, what the hell does that mean?!
did anyone else get chills when he hopped up on the chair...brilliant actor
I'm sure Stephen did. From the look on his face, I'm sure he was in nerd nirvana.
Menstruation Cocktail I got electrocuted when Tom did it.
He isn't even asked to get on the chair, he's just a committed actor.
Kwegyirba Croffie such a chill guy!!😂😂👍👍
The look of sheer child-like wonderment and thrill on Stephen's face hearing Peter read as Gollum, makes me so happy.🥰
OMG you're right, you never forget that look of wonderment in a child's eyes.
He also did an absolutely amazing job at narrating the LOTR series on audible 👌👌
Fun fact: Andy got the idea for gollum's voice after seeing his cat cough up a hairball
Really?
I can totally see that haha
"Cough"...."cough".... *Gollum*
@@husnainali2050 yes, in the easter eggs on the DVD he tells the story.
@@AdrianOlivosR yeah i watch it already and it was fun
Please give this man his Oscar already!
Marc Valley you mean an old people's choice award? Serkis is too talented for it.
Maybe. But it would be a way for the Academy to acknowledge the merrit of performance capture. And any recognition for this man's talent is warranted.
TOTALLY RAD!! with josie! He would be the first person who deserved it in over a decade if you ask me. Listening to him talk about his craft, is very reminiscent of how actors used to talk about their roles. Now they just hype the movie up, because money.
Doesn't he run his own company that's pioneering motion capture technology?
Lee Sapp He does.
I love the pure joy and giddiness Stephen gets when an actor from LOTR comes on. It's adorable.
God bless this man for still not minding and maybe even downright enjoying playing Gollum 🥲
It's fun to do the voice
I met him at work once and he's honestly the sweetest guy, and so kind to his fans! Definitely a hugely talented and underrated actor.
Katie B you're so lucky.
Can you ask god what my social security number is?
I would like to know he exists and he has been purposely elusive it seems to me.
If he is giving you info, it seems like a reasonable request.
Sean Astin isn't a fan. Serkis almost ripped his scalp off in an outtake at the Black Gate getting into character too much. :P
Astin had to take a break so he didn't kill Serkis by the look on his face as he stormed off. Hahaha.
I'm sure he got over it.
The most underrated actor in Hollywood, this man deserves an Oscar for every movie he’s done. Mocap acting is so much more difficult than just stage acting and Andy nails every role he does from Sméagol to King Kong. Not to mention the fact that he has shed new light on what Mo capping is. I hope we have many more Serkis films.
He's a real artist.
He will get a lifetime award
He did great in in the game th-cam.com/video/CcYCZbZbkxw/w-d-xo.html 4:45 in

I noticed that too.
I friggin’ lost it when he said “Or soo DIRTY!” 😂🤣😂
Stephen's face lit up when he started 😭 pure nerd boy joy
+Mikayla Stokely Ikr! he looked so happy.
Is it so wrong to love the person who portrays, dies for, what he loves? **GOLLUM** Sorry, something caught in my throat. **:D**
I've never gotten so many likes 😂
Damn, that clip of Serkis starting the speech and morphing into Ceasar would have made a great trailer.
Sean Inness it was a trailer tho
it's scary how much they actually look like each other
@HeSmile. My bad. I've seen a few other trailers for this movie but had not seen this one. I'm a little surprised that they would release the raw motion capture for a trailer but it's fantastic that they did. Thanks for letting me know.
Dylan Jakins It's probably more that the motion capture designers designed Caesar's facial features based on Serkis. That makes the motion capture easier to do, as they would not need as much tweaking to get the right expressions when it's animated.
go to the youtube channel screen junkies and see how they make it the guy Andy make a video in new Zealand
I love the way Colbert called him "My Precious".❤
Just an absolute acting legend. He has a wonderful attitude and personality too. He’s a rare gem in Hollywood..
4:20 ``... or so DIRTY!`` OMG Stephen`s face at that moment, PURE GOLD!
Chuck PK I laughed so hard at that part
Chuck PK You just know he's a true fan. :0)
Chuck PK same face I had on. my god I loved this.
Franciscoxish g
He's a boy in a candy shop. He can't contain himself.
This guy is criminally underrated and under appreciated
I don't think he's underrated. He's had a pretty good career.
He got outstanding british contribution to cinema award...
According to WiKi he's one of the highest grossing actors of all time. So no, not underrated at all.
Here comes random people on the internet claiming someone is ''underrated'' and 270 idiots felt for that.
Underrated. With 28 million net worth, globally known for his geniality and talent. ''Underrated''. Congratulations generic dude.
Great actor
Initially, I was surprised when Andy just jumped into his chair. Then I realized, he's been doing very physical acting for years
"Man of a Thousand Faces" literally Best demonstration of "getting into a character's skin."
Give this man an oscar
This Ring junkie*
bugstwist7 f
Give this man an oscar
Yeah he sure does. He's a gifted actor. He deserves it
YEEESSSSS
I love how believable he is as smeagol/gollum without the visual effects.
5Bigfoots they actually masked the Gollum face after his to make it look better :D
Thats because he IS smeagol/gollum. Serkis wasn't just the voice, he was the body too. In order to animate Gollum, Serkis spent months in a motion capture studio where they captured his entire body language and motion for every scene. So when you see Smeagol/Gollum move around in the LOTR..that is actually Andy Serkis moving like that.
That's why he moves and holds himself like smeagol/gollum, in the films it really was him.
@@mmarsh1972 And then he would be on set with Frodo and Sam for reference footage for the CG teams to know how best to place him in the scene and see the lighting on him and get some interaction with the environment. They put him through the wringer on those films.
Elijah Wood and Sean Astin were so thankful Andy acted alongside them as Gollum, too (they didnt have to imagine Gollum because he was there). Weta (sfx team) first designed Gollum as fantasy animated character, but Gollum got 'personified' with Andy's face- it is the final render of Gollum as we know
I met Andy Serkis at a comicon and I can honestly say that he is as nice and as genuine as he appears here
He doesn't act Gollum, he becomes Gollum. Amazing actor Andy Serkis 👍
I love the way Stephen Colbert's face lights up when he starts using the voice
Stephen is a true nerd and I love that he makes no effort to hide it
Never have I ever seen such a dramatic representation of an actor in the moment. In fact, in all my years of theater attendance/performing, television viewing and moviegoing, I honestly don't think anything could say it clearer: mo-cap is just the actor, all the actor. The rest is "scenery." Plus, Mr. Serkis is extraordinary, gifted and so ascended as an actor, which is not separate from being a person. The actor takes in the character, gives that being speech, attention and a space in which to be seen and heard. it's an amazing thing to become the medium through which an actor can vividly show a character as alive and real as anyone. I am in awe of that talent, and that vision.
He's a voice actor. They're 10-a-penny on voices.com ;-)
Lisa, I have no words for people like you. All I can do is furrow my brow for a bit in disbelief, then move on.
Hes played loads of stuff, Check out his part as Ian Dury, was epic
With the original Apes movies, actors such as Roddy McDowell were rightly praised for being able to express genuine emotion through the latex make-up; motion capture is the direct evolution of that but one which allows the actor a great deal more range and ability to shine through. Andy Serkis is so much more than just "a voice actor", and to even say that shows how little an understanding you have of the art, Lisa.
I agree with you fully but that little line where you said "all my years of theatre performing".
CRINGE 😬
I´ll never get tired of this clip, blows me away every time!!! Plus, Stephen´s face during the tweet reading is simply precious (pun intended :)))
If after watching that, you can't imagine Gollum's voice coughing out, "MAGA! MAGA!" at the end of a sentence, you're not trying hard enough.
ROTFLMAO damn you, now I'm gunna hear that EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. I see or hear "Maga/Maga-t"
😂😂😂
Stephen was fanboying the whole time he read those lol just look at his face
*LOL* I loved to see how much he did geek out!
not that I in his place would have freaked out any less mind you ;)
You can tell the moment Stephen stops being camera -professional when he's literally mouthing the words as "Gollum" says them, which is like a newbie actor thing you have to consciously stop yourself from doing.
I love how the audience just loses their mind when he voices Sméagol & Gollum!!
For real. Pause it at 4:23
HE is a HUGE LOTR fan.
Andy Serkis is one of the rarest acting talents of all time. He’s got a phenomenal range of entertaining gifts.
I disagree. Its Vin Diesel that has a lot of range. So is Dwayne Johnson😂
So glad he got to see the audience response for those performances. They should do a whole Broadway show of Andy just reading trump tweets in different voices.
What a great performer. 'Thankses' to Mr. Serkis for all the entertainment.
I so much respect for that man. He makes true art of cinema, not in it just for fame or money.
duchesswannabe yeah keep kidding yourself
And what exactly is your problem, my precioussss?!?
duchesswannabe Come on yar.. He's not some unknown actor doing motion capture
This guy along with Cameron and Peter Jackson, is a pioneer of that
Ofcourse he has fame and recognition, just not from the academy

Colbert looks like he's thinking, "This is so awesooooooome!!!" the entire time when Andy Serkis is doing the Gollum voice. But when Andy Serkis turns to him at 4:39, he immediately changes his geeking-out face to a totally cool bro-nod!
squallofreeves Stephen was geeking out
lol, omg didn't notice, that how my face was like lol
Granted the character Gollum is a very distinct type with a very specific set of behavioural traits. I still find it insane how he can casually get in character during an interview.
All late night show interviews are partly scripted and the show hosts and producers would go through, together with the guests, the stuff they would discuss or do before the show begins
its blu I am pretty sure sometime while drinking coffee alone in his house he starts talking to Gollum and Smeagol. Who knows ;)

Dude is a legend.
I didn't realize he did the voices too. Hes the only person who can do the Golum voice without sounding like a complete douche.
moemoney131 that's because he IS gollum/smeagol
Haha yeah I know but whenever I hear someone try to do an impression of it, I want to make sure people know I am not with that person.
I may have decrypted "covfefe". It's probably "kerfuffle" in phonics.
Nope. It means COVID-19. Trump knew about it all along, but couldn't spell it.
The crowd’s uproar when Andy hops into the chair to get into character. 😂
Stephen Colbert has never been happier than this moment.
Lord of the rings and Trump. His 2 favorite things
I don't think I have ever been this happy either
I was just watching his reactions the whole time, cutest. thing. ever.
Because he is a fan of lord of the ring movies. He was growing up read Tolkien's books. If I wasn't mistaken
At 4:23 if you pause it as Serkis looks at the paper, that grin is just _preciouss_
I would watch an entire episode of Gollum Trump.
I have no screenwriting experience, but I think if we all got enough drugs we could probably pull it off.
Laughing the food out of my nose when he did his Gollum Tweet reads!
This man is a goddamn treasure and absolutely underrated as an actor.
ha! look at stephen's face. he's soooo excited and happy. like a kid in a candy store
Jesse Brennan he is a neeeeerd
It's so cute!!
Jesse Brennan, on the outside hes acting as an adult seeing his favourite actor but on the inside he is screaming with excitement
