Mate, what really made this so enjoyable, other than the joy of being guided around these iconic locations is your obvious love of being there. It's clear that it means a lot to you and you come across as a sound, likeable bloke, respectful of the places you visit. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication in producing this. Best wishes to you both and stay safe.👍

Its amazing how many emotions come flooding back as i watch this. I first saw Karate Kid as a 12 year old just starting my life. Now im about to turn 49, and Im past the midway point looking back on so many incredible memories. Nothing compared to being a kid in the 80s. I wouldnt trade it for anything.

That "grain" in the old movies that you speak of is one of many things that made the 80s films so special. They simply cant replicate it today no matter how hard they try.

What is so cool is that, in S4:E8 “Party Time” of Cobra Kai, Silver surprises Kreese by bringing him back to the original Cobra Kai dojo from the 1985 Karate Kid movie. He said “It’s been a long time since this place has been a dojo. They’re putting it up for sale. I think it was a candle shop.” 😲 I was excited and in awe when you mentioned at 11:02 that the original Cobra Kai dojo location is actually a candle shop! 😮

The best part of this video was Michael saying "You get one life. Once chance to live it, and your never gonna get this chance again. So just do it." I think one of the reasons I enjoy these videos so much is a chance to see and experience things that I would never have been able to.

I’m in Sydney, Australia and was lucky enough to visit the apartment when I was there in 2019. So surreal seeing something like that up close when it’s been part of a film you adore for so long.
We were able to get inside through the side gate as a young couple was exiting at the moment we got there. They let us in happily and said they get asked several times a week but they enjoy that people love it so much. Great video!

Whenever I see how much things have changed since the 80's, I feel extremely sad inside. It's everything, too. Last year I was doing a video tour of the day camp I went to back in the late 80s and early 90s. I actually filmed the swimming pool, and noticed that there is no more deep end. Deep ends and diving boards are a thing of the past. Girls join boy scouts now, and people txt instead of holding conversations. I find myself lost in this new modern world, and generally just surround myself with 80s and 90s pop culture. It's the only place I feel alive anymore. Good video, Mr Grimmlifecollective.

Mr. Miyagi's apartment was constructed where the first 3 parking spots are (leaving only 2, one of which Daniel's mom parks in). The entrance to Miyagi's apartment was where the white van is parked. The gated off walkway was still a walkway (although not gated) in the movie. Daniel walks down it when he is first looking for Miyagi.

But when you said all that...something about it woke me up...Thank you so very much for that inspiration...It's time I got up and started living because you are right...we don't get to do it over...Thank you so much for that...thank you for your videos...and thank you for being you...You and Jessica ROCK!!! Many years ago when I was still living with my folks, we took a family vacation to Cali. We were just cruising down the street and I saw Golf N Stuff and recognized it from the movie. So I told my dad to pull over so I could take some pics. This was just a few years after it was released. And the water slide was still there. It's so weird to be traveling and then all of a sudden realize that you are amongst the scenery of a classic movie without even intentionally trying to be there. We were driving through Astoria, Oregon one time years back and I didnt at the time know that much of the Goonies was filmed in Astoria. So I was looking around, and I began to recognize the area. I was thinking, "this place looks really familiar". And then I realized that I was right there in the "Goondocks". Now that was surreal. :)

@Frank Silvers actually I don’t remember seeing the whole movie when I was 5,I had glimpses and flashbacks of certain scenes and remembering I watched it at a different house at a different time, and there’s also a picture taken from my mom of me watching the movie, taken July 7 2009.

I like that you respect not "trespassing" in areas you feel you shouldnt. Its very very respectful (especially at Mr. Miagi's house. MOST DEFINITELY people live there.
I can imagine how many requests homeowner/landowners must get to to "see movie locations". If i were one of them. I would certainly get annoyed after a while

I remember ditching school to go on a date to Golf n' stuff (when the water slide was still there), and I remember geeking out because it felt like I was in the movie! It was soo expensive to play in that arcade, but it was definitely worth visiting.
I always wanted to ride the water slide but it was closed each time I went. I guess that's a good thing though, I heard that there were a lot of accidents and a few fatalities on that slide, which is probably why they had to take it down. I did get to go on the bumper boats eventually and that was AMAZING! I appreciate your appreciation of all the locations you visit, thanks for doing what you do. It is so enjoyable to watch.

lol a couple Fatalities? Rofl.. man trust me if someone dies on a ride of any kind they do not keep letting people on it, in order for there to be a couple fatalities. Its one and done and thats it.

Another thing I like about film making in the 80s is they used both the inside and outside of buildings instead of just using the exterior and something else for the interior

    • @chuckfan1
      @chuckfan1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Umm not really
For almost all locations that are homes, the interior is almost always a set.
Typically one of the only times they will use a homes interior if it's the pilot. If the show gets picked up, they will then film all that on a set. With the set "house interior" modeled after the real life home, with slight modifications
Nothings changed as far as homes
And again, nothing has changed as far as buildings , schools etc.
Since those locations are typically unique, to the productions requirements they will film inside , as in Karate Kid, the championship
Or, with schools, a lot of times they will use the exterior of one school and the interior of another, for the same school
Example of this would be Grease.
And yes, I work in Locations in the biz

I went to Hughes Jr High the last year it was open 82/83. Actor Jason Bateman went to this school that year also. Michael Jackson showed up at this school also in late May or early June of 1983. Funny how those lockers are still the same color after all these years.

That 3D black m white horror movie "Mask" was aired in summer of 88 with a Three Stooges 3-D movie. Haven't heard anyone reference it until now.
Side trivia, the school used in Karate Kid was also used in A nightmare on Elm st part 2. Same locker hallway was used and you can see the same worn stickers on the same lockers.

How ironic you lived in Savannah because that's exactly where I lived when I first saw Karate Kid and the sequels. My uncle took me to Abercorn Cinema all the time to see everything. I lived with my grandparents on Wilmington Island. Ralph Macchio was my very first crush. Had a shrine of posters filling up my walk in closet and all over the inside of the door. I was obsessed! Then Top Gun released 2yrs later...
Cruel Summer is still my favorite song. Such great memories of my childhood-teen yrs in the 80's
    Thanks for this video.

Miyagi didn't live in the apartment building. He just had his workshop there, since he was the super. But his house was where the dojo was. Also, the entry to the workshop wasn't the side entrance to the building, that is clear in the images, the entrance to the building is still visible in the movie and is even used during the filming.

I always thought he might be cooking meth back there and selling it to the highschool kids. Thats why he had Danniel sign up for that Karate tourney. Miyaga was selling product at all these Karate tournaments. It wasn't very clear in the script but I think this is a very likely sub plot to the movie.
