- Once a year, the Gulf’s best off-road racers and up to a 100,000 of their fans flock to the UAE desert for the Liwa Sports Festival. During this nine-day explosive dune bashing celebration, competitors push themselves and their heavily modified engines to their absolute limits, trying to break drag race speed records and conquer one of the world’s largest sand dunes, the Tal Moreeb, known as “the hill of horror.”
We follow buggy drag racer Nasser who wants to break his friend’s record, and experienced 4WD dune basher Saeed, as he tries to drive up the enormous, near vertical sand wall.

Honestly at first I was watching and it bothered me he didn’t know much about vehicles, but I continued watching and actually love the fact we all can watch and learn about a sport most westerners haven’t really heard of and it’s awesome, amazing video man, BUT PS: DONT JINX THEM! The host was upset with people doing what people do at car meets or at motorsport events, and get scared when getting to ride in a 1,500hp dune buggy with a very competent driver? How is it possible to find somebody this closeted to host a show about stuff like this?

The host was too scared to ride in the buggy (so we got one clip of that), he antagonized the driver about his car breaking down, had the nerve to say two-step/anti-lag is annoying, and said no one wants to talk about the dangers as if it were a surprise. Never send this guy to a motor sports event again.

Terrible presenter choice for this event. Dude wanted ear protection for a backfire. He couldn't care less or know less about the sport or even the culture behind it. For an almost 20 minute video I would've expected better. He didn't even do any research on the Moreeb Dune from what I could tell. Almost got me to resubscribe VICE. Almost. Too bad I actually watched the video.

Reporter made it clear he didn't want to be there, so why send him if he couldn't even muster it; there must be something he would've been interested in to report on. To see this event presented like this is disappointing and if we don't ask better then they're the next History Channel. No pun intended.

I think the presenter was great. He went in there with no knoledge and asked questions. Me i dnt no anything about these cars either or the races that happen in dubai. He gave me a great idea of what its like and didnt make it look fake.

Vice should’ve gotten a guy who actually understands the culture or at least something about motors.
They don’t spend millions of dollars on just the engine. Maybe a million UAE money. Regardless. The guy freaked out just by riding the sand rail. Trust me, a fast one is super sketchy but he’s just not someone I would take as credible. A ton of wrong facts or over representations.
I love that the passion for cars is world wide.

It’s an understatement how much the Liwa 20XX means to uae citezins everytime the event is close to the date you can see a majority of cars in the streets with the stickers on their cars and even stickers from older competitions raise the cars value no joke I saw online a 4x4 with the sticker of liwa 2014 and it cost 2k more than average price

Vice, I hate to say it, but this episode would have been great but for one thing. Your hosts were terrible. Why didn’t you send someone that is more into high octane events? This guy was complaining about all the people backfiring their cars! For me at least that’s awesome. The noise, the power, the speed, that’s awesome and fun. These guys seemed to me like they didn’t care.
I grew up riding pipe buggies on Oahu the government took our trail glad to see people out there in the world stared enjoying it and having a big ass space
