As a kid though, Resident Evil 2 and Silent Hill 2 on my playstation scared the ever loving heck outta me

It doesn't feel like that long ago, does it? I remember thinking that Silent Hill would never make a return after P.T. was cancelled, but with the release of the Silent Hill 2 Remake, I couldn't be happier to be proven wrong!

I feel like how blown away we were with PT's approach to horror and elaborate mechanics, is the closest we can get to the feeling people had during the original release of the first Silent Hill games. While the remake of SH2 is very good, it is just that. A remake. PT was probably the only shot we had at a new Silent Hill game that would actually come close to the originals.
I can tell you that I was so freaked out by the camera angles that I noped out and got an ex to play it for me whilst I watched… can’t guarantee that I could handle it better nowadays, mind 🙃

Seriously I didn’t even know the mechanics were that in depth. Someone has to pick up on this and make a more interactive horror game maybe even take away the pause screen and inventory screen so you cant escape the horror 😂

I think it's easy to say this, but i feel like part of its influence was in the fact that it was a short teaser and that it sort of ran out of places to go convincingly.
@@Tom_Lube Could've been. But in this case, it's actually internal conflict within the company with their cash cow creative, Hideo Kojima. He was done so dirty he and his team outright left and started their own company. Good riddance to a toxic Japanese company with abusive control issues.
@@Tom_Lube can you elaborate on what you mean by running out of places to go convincingly? If the gameplay is what the actual game was going to be like, wouldn’t the final product create an even bigger influence. FNAF was a finished game and it is still inspiring new indie games
An argument could be made that Visage took the PT style and gameplay and finished it without it being a silent hill game
@@jackalnut3034 yeah i think its somewhat accepted that Visage is the spiritual successor to PT. it has its issues, mainly being the inventory and controls, but to me its the scariest game ive ever played and nothing else comes close. feel like i have PTSD from it sometimes lol

So happy SH2R was a success we needed a win in the community. PT was terrifying. I remember downloading it and having no idea what it was but I was enamored. Me and my sister were so lost. Then my friend told me it was a SH game and I lost it when I heard that.

LOOK BEHIND YOU. I SAID, LOOK BEHIND YOU. is still one of if not my favourite line in horror gaming history, everything from the way the actor delivers it, to the timing of its delivery, is just so perfectly executed. Pure goosebumps. I'm still sad about P.T. to this very day.

Another channel by the name of TheGrateDebate released a video titled “P.T.’s Hidden Meaning”. It actually goes into a bit of depth similar to this one, but the video is pretty speculative. It implies that not only was Kojima being pushed out of Konami (and explores those reasons why in depth), but that the Playable Teaser for was Kojima’s biggest “screw you” to the executives at Konami. Again, a lot of the theories posed in the video are speculative and hypothetical, but it actually makes sense when you consider how much information has surfaced about Konami ever since Kojima’s departure.

The amount of hours I spent going down the rabbit hole with PT is tremendous. I noticed Kojima put an asset from PT (the apartment complex inside the one Knot City) into Death Stranding. That wasn't done by mistake, especially when it went against the futuristic architecture of the world affected by Timefall. I'm definitely interested in seeing what you create next!
Omg now I need to go find that easter egg. Also, very ballsy of Kojima and team. Konami might try to legally skin them alive for that stunt (I hope they leave them alone if they still want their precious rep not tarnished any further). Thanks for highlighting.

I'm glad to hear it, Clyde! The Silent Hill 2 Remake has been a massive success. Remaking a masterpiece like Silent Hill 2 seemed like an impossible task, but I think Bloober Team have gone above and beyond what anyone expected. As for Kojima, it seems like he isn't done making games just yet!

I have no idea why they didn't knock this out together. This would've been absolutely legendary. In fact, the demo itself is legendary. I can't imagine how amazing a full game would've been.
It is truly mind numbing to think of how this project got axed. PT gave me PT SD lmao, that’s how crazy this one off demo really was. In a saturated genre like horror games, it truly stood out for the precision with which it fucks your mind. An absolute crying shame that this won’t ever see the light of day.
The only complaint I have is that you only have one video and I need more! Love the amount of effort and research that went into this. Subbing and can't wait to see more!

17:24 It's especially eerie since to this day, no one knows who the actor is. Does he know about the P.T. phenomenon? Is he ever going to step forward? I've read comments trying to figure out his accent, but none of the names that have been brought up have been exact matches, in my opinion at least. He sounds so different from one line to the next. His delivery in the initial news report vs "you got fired so you drowned your sorrows in booze" vs "dad was such a drag" really shows his range.

this was the first horror game i ever played, right on the ps4 as soon as it came out too,my dad downloaded it then a couple days later said it was for me to play i think he was just too scared to play it himself
I am still livid that I will never see a Silent Hill game directed by Kojima becasue bro can put the most fucked up stuff inside of it and I'd be there for the ride. In the other hand, PT staying the way it is now created a whole new sub-genre of horror itself, which I am happy about and that probably we wouldn' have gotten if it became real. But, still, my hands itch at the thought of what this could have been.
Wait, that stop and video unavailable at 18:40 just when the jumpscare happens was intentional? Man... I hate jumpscares, but I've gotta give it to you, that was really good. That trascends jumpscares and turns it into a proper scare, forcing the viewer to deal and proccess Lisa's face and what's happening. Honestly, well pulled.

That would require Kojima and team to stay with an awfully abusive company that even banned them from collecting their own award at the Video Game Awards for the very last Metal Gear game he helmed. I'm as bummed about them not finishing it, but I'd rather they leave for their mental and creative health.
Toxic companies and CEOs are the bane of creative projects. Just look at the weird decisions made for the sequels after SH2. It got progressively worse.

I was only 12 when PT came out, I remember how scary it was to watch TH-camrs playing it. And I remember the air of disapointment about a year later. apart of me didint understand that the game was never coming out I think.

i booted this up on a whim when it first released. I was home alone on a bright sunny day and 23 years young. After 10 minutes i noped out of there and waited for my roommates to come home before trying to play it again, and then we ALL were scared!!

One funny tidbit to the story is that he was staying in the basement of my uncle's Church at the time and he had this big old TV, honestly I'm not even sure how he hooked it up it was that old. Anyway Silent Hill in the basement of a church.

some times some people overlooked PT because we never got much information about the story of it and cast because it was never happened but... they don't see the weight of the game over the name...it's "SILENT HILLs" not silent hill...it must had to have a big plan sort of.... otherwise they could have address it just silent hill 10 or 11 or some name with it.... tbh I have no hope if Kojima and konami would get along in future for "MGS" or even "Silent HIlLs" but i can guess how massive this project was suppose to.... but anyway my later gone far too long so... Amazing and awesome video! Something about the video kept making me think about Fatal Frame and how a history of that franchise would be epic. The internet conspiracys of the haunted mansion being a real place, the north american release stating on the cover "based on a true story" and the changes and continuations that never really captured the feel of the first few games.
Remember when the P.T. demo came around. Is crazy how nothing has come close to, for me personally it was next level of horor to what we used to get. So different and unique. Can´t believe still remember the feelings that it gave me.The potential of such a new era of horror we yet will never see.

A horror game with the visuals of Junji Ito would have to be too damn scary to release. Junji Ito's books, even though they aren't even moving images, send chills to my spine. I can NOT imagine a video game with monsters designed by Junji Ito coming after the player, it would be too much to bear
