Hi Phil, oh the trials and tribulations of having a moat, almost envious 😔 Brazen lot of wildlife you have, remind me are they protected? Can you set humane traps. Slow but good progress with the walls. Keep it up. Stay safe and strong. Keep smiling. Judith 🦋💕
Wallpaper removal is the worst! Very slow tedious process. You’re doing an excellent job. Once you get the vinyl layer off, soak the paper again and let it sit 10 minutes. It will scrape off much easier than using the steamer. Once the paper is all removed, you still have to make sure all the glue is washed off the wall. It’s a pain in the butt. Good luck.
Warm water with fabric softner. Use hand pump sprayer. Soak for 30 minutes. I did 12 rooms 12' ceilings. All types of papers. Scoring before spraying. Good luck.
I had vinyl wallpaper everywhere in the kitchen and the bathrooms when I bought a 20yr house which is fairly modern . The builders or 1st owners probably thought it was cheaper to wallpaper everywhere. But with the humidity of these rooms it was time consuming to remove. No particular tips except keep doing what you’re doing it’ll be worth it in the end 😘
Phil, I live in a very rainy Canadian city! We have catch basins everywhere and they get clogged with leaves constantly. Our city actually has a program where you can "adopt" a catch basin, and clear the leaves to prevent flooding. Not as cool as your moat though! I regularly go out and clear four or five. It's great exercise for this old lady! Those rodents are DEFINITELY a pain in the behind 😮😮
Your walk around the property was a beautiful reminder of just how gorgeous it is. Removing wallpaper reminds me how Billy worked on the kitchen at the convent, day after day plugging away, and eventually it was done. It will be the same for you and the d@mn wallpaper. ❤
Our chateau had 7 layers of wallpaper. We were instructed to use glue and go over all of it. Let it dry completely and then you just wallpaper over all of it. If you value your sanity you should consider this technique. You can really see all of your hard work coming to fruition!
Problem is I don’t want to wallpaper after I want smooth walls and paint plus the vinyl wallpaper needs to be removed as it is trapping moisture under it and damaging the property Need to do the job right no matter how tedious
Great job on removing the wallpaper, Phil! Glad to see the process is going a little better for you. Well done on clearing the spillover! You have such a beautiful property! I can easily see why you enjoy living there.
After removing wallpaper from every room in my previous home, I’ve never put it up again. I got a projector and an adult coloring book and hand painted some designs.
You really need to consider cutting down and removing all trees and bushes around the moat. You can plant again however you will never get rid of all the problems caused by the roots until you do this. It’s not the ideal situation but you bought all the problems when you took over the Chateau. It will grow back.
I feel your pain with the wallpaper stripping! Such a tedious job but the end results will be worth it. I have seen you clearing the sluice several times now and wonder why you don't cut back the branches that seem to hang over it? But maybe its just the camera angle.....
I’ve seen you handle the overflow a lot of times and I’ve always wondered why you don’t fix a bridge out to the sluice instead of standing on the boat.
Phil, here is my mental trick for handling tedious tasks [like stripping that nasty wallpaper]: I set the timer on my phone for 60 or 90 minutes, and when it goes off, Voila! Done for the day. Just do that every day. [And sometimes you'll feel like going longer.]
Soak soak and soak . This from the woman who soaked the awful fibreglass wovenhorror! Instead of just pulling it off.Unbelievably disgusting🤣bon courage ❤
Animals in captivity escape on their own or did some unscrupulous breeder accidentally leave doors open so they wouldn't have to feed them because they were not profitable anymore as people stopped buying fur is the unasked question. If everyone who has the problem fed them contraceptive laced food in a few years the issue would solve itself humanely.
Nope, he has Nutria. They are incredibly destructive and invasive. The local government actually gets involved when you have them there they are so bad.
cute, but very destructive critters, around here(Oregon, USA), they are always trying to keep them out of the ponds and river banks. Have you got a friend/enemy you can ship them off to? ha ha
I thought you had the authorities deal with the coypu? I think if you cannot be rid of them I would sell if it were me. Poor Lightning :( If you knew what they eat maybe set up traps? Edd showed us a lovely property needing work no moat no water round have a look. I hope you have asked Sadie what it was she bought for her former convent apartment to rid her of the wallpaper.
Sorry, the only suggestion I can give about the wallpaper... put on some music, have a drink &/or cigar and just keep at it. I do have a suggestion for the colours in the room. When I think about designing something - I first decide on a colour that I like and look at what's beside that colour, or across from it on the wheel. I look at complimentary colours, opposite colours. Decide what level of colour light or darker and stick with those colours (what I mean by that is don't choose colours that are not in harmony with the colour) hope that make sense,. Usually, only 3 colours per room. Think of an imaginary triangle and see if those colours strike your fancy. It's all up to personal taste. But, I will say if you chose 3 colours they should be in harmony ie: the adjoining rooms can be done in the same colours but you can switch it up by making the main colour in the main room the 3rd or accent colour in the adjoining room next, and the 2nd colour in the first room can be the main colour in the 2nd room with the 3rd colour in the first room can be the accent or 2nd colour in the 2nd room. The internet has many ideas for colour combinations and concepts for using the colour wheel. It can also give you colour concepts. I hope I explained this in a way that is understandable and that this is helpful to you. If you are dead stuck pick something in the room that will have all the colours you would like in the room. Maybe the colour of the fireplace, a picture that will be in the room that you like or even a pillow cover or bedspread. I may be telling you what you already know but this has always worked for me even when I'm not inspired. Good luck room main room adjoining room 2nd adjoining main colour colour 1 colour 2 colour 3 secondary colour colour 2 colour 3 colour 1 accent colour colour 3 colour 1 colour 2 I'll be watching
I wonder if wallpaper remover with heat applied would work better, the room temperature might be too cool? Just a thought. The heat source could be a blow dryer or some other tool that produces heat.Or maybe you are already doing that.
Those steamers are very hot themselves. I’ve tried it all. Steamers, vinegar and hot water, wallpaper remover, fabric softener and hot water. The fabric softener or the vinegar usually works the best in my opinion.
Are the giant rats a protected species? I'm the sort who would call the local pest control as I just couldn't take them damaging my place like that. Ugh.
Yes, but then what, I don't think Phil minds that they live there, it's just that they undermine the trees which most probably shouldn't all be there!?!
Billy needs Yanis more than Phil does, if he wanted he could hire his own help with running a pub and all, I think he wants to primarily do it himself!?!
You have a beautiful property Phil.

You will nail it eventually 👍🤗🍷🍾🌹🌹🌹
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤

Works a treat! Cleared 60 years of wallpaper , score, fabric softener.
Good job!

Phil, I have an old house, and what you're doing is exactly why I did not put any wallpaper on my walls. Too much work.
Your walk around the property was a beautiful reminder of just how gorgeous it is. Removing wallpaper reminds me how Billy worked on the kitchen at the convent, day after day plugging away, and eventually it was done. It will be the same for you and the d@mn wallpaper. ❤
Wow, those creatures are amazing. Long whiskers on them. Nice footage. Sorry they cause plant damage. Glad you unstopped the drainage holes
Phil my love. Happy holidays 🌲🎄🎅. Take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🇺🇸🌞❤️🕊️⛪️👍🌹😇🙏

Well done Phil. You are getting there with the house and the moat issues will get sorted eventually. Cheers 👌🤗💯
Great job on removing the wallpaper, Phil! Glad to see the process is going a little better for you. Well done on clearing the spillover! You have such a beautiful property! I can easily see why you enjoy living there.
You do t need a gym with all the work you do around the Chateau. That damn wallpaper again 😬😲
Phil glad the wallpaper is a wee bit easier. How’s your back doing?
Good job, Phil on clearing out the slice gate thingy.
Glad the wall.paper trick is working for you.
Cheers

Phil, if you drain the moat it makes cleaning the banks much easier, then fill it back up!
You’re doing a great job removing that paper,it’s a tedious process but you have the patience to do it 💪🏼👍
Beautiful creatures ❤
Ryan removed so much wallpaper at the apartment at the convent. Maybe he has some tips.
Wow! Spillover is working great now.
You need a full time grounds keeper,so much work. Once you get the sides cleaned up it will be beautiful!
Excellent ❤
👍🏻👍🏻
Remember the movie Cattyshack? I just imagine Phil fighting those rodents.
That wallpaper is definitely stubborn ❤
I always add white vinegar to hot water to remove wallpaper easily.
What a job. Clearing the water problem looked satisfying but the wall paper...ugh.
best

Try putting lit flares in the critter tunnels with live traps nearby to catch them.
Have you tried scoring the plastic layer before steamIng? Just heard the bit about the spiky roller LOL

All you have beavers. How interesting. I didn't know you had them there in europe too. They can't do a lot of damage. But they do live there.
Nope, he has Nutria. They are incredibly destructive and invasive. The local government actually gets involved when you have them there they are so bad.
Didn't Ryan figured out a good method.
cute, but very destructive critters, around here(Oregon, USA), they are always trying to keep them out of the ponds and river banks. Have you got a friend/enemy you can ship them off to? ha ha
There is always something to do at home.
Try a heat gun. You can adjust the temp so you don't burn anything. Heat releases adhesive in many cases.
Crank your favorite rock ‘n’ roll while you’re removing the wallpaper!
Those little buggers. They need to be evicted.
My Husband Fux Painted over our wall paper

I like to remove wallpaper.
There must be more people who likes it as well.
Perhaps you can find vollonteers Philip.
If you have viewers from Louisiana they can give you a recipe for those.😜
Could you have a paper stripping party of sorts with a few mates to break the back of the work ? 😊
maybe a bigger scraper would help
It will be worth it when you get it all done.
You will get done Phil!

I can see you wilting Phil, keep going lad. X
Ah do you have unrecognized gourmet food? Who are their foes? Would the curer be worst than the pain?
n France the Coypu has few natural enemies apart from man
🌲🍁🌲🍁🌲🍁🌲🍁🌲
Coypu do make very nice fur coats, though I don't know if that is legal anymore?
Probably not, but that would DEFINITELY help solve the problem 😂
Can you trap them?
Yes, but then what, I don't think Phil minds that they live there, it's just that they undermine the trees which most probably shouldn't all be there!?!
@@TomTomicMicHe DOES mind. They went after Lightning and are destroying the banks of the moat.
The local government has regulations on how to deal with them because they are such a problem. He has been in contact with them.
Stripping wallpaper, not fun!❤
What are the critters called? Water rats?
Coypu. Not native to France.
Coypu
Ben and Jerry!?!
Known as Nutria in N America.
Borrow Yanis to help? 😊
Billy needs Yanis more than Phil does, if he wanted he could hire his own help with running a pub and all, I think he wants to primarily do it himself!?!
