Collecting wood is actually a hobby of some people. I can vouch that my father has a shed full. Whenever he suggested to my mother that she had too much fabric in her tiny sewing room, she simply raised her eyebrows and pointed at his gigantic shed!
My parents were the same! I had a clearout of fabrics inherited from my Mum & my Granny plus my excess fabrics & some my daughter left at home and I STILL have way too much fabric...oh and yarn too!
My Dad collects old Tractors and my Mom collects loom for weaving. Every time there was a new tractor there would be a new loom within a week or so. They are both in their 90s now and the same rules still apply.
I never throw out wood. My hubby says I have an issue 😂… but it always comes in handy! Only today I went into the wood collection to build a mini shelter for the Christmas laser projector (not to protect it from rain; but more to ensure it doesn’t catch anyone’s eyes as they enter or leave the house, so it has nice ‘wings’). My wood collection last month meant I was able to build a wooden frame for the raised shower base too… without having to buy new/more wood.
Ahh, Brian. Such a refreshing, effortlessly likable (and multi-talented) gent. Thanks for sharing your life perspective... and your music choices. Spot on.
I have to mute it sometimes and put subtitles on. I can't stand jazz. Saxophones make my flesh crawl. Dan had the best music when he worked alone and had nobody to converse with.
Great vlog Brian. You are a joy to watch and listen to as well Not sure if anyone else feels the same but it’s cool hanging out with you while you’re working on your own place too. It’s like being around someone you’ve known for years 😅 that’s crazy since we’ve never met in person. Looking forward to seeing the finished boot room. Enjoy your time with friends and see you tomorrow.❤❤❤
Hello Irish🍀 I'm glad you get to work on your own Chateau today. Does your Chateau have a name? The picture of the boot room looks really nice. I'm sure you'll be able to replicate it and add your own unique touches to it. Enjoy dinner with your friends.🥂
Having a layabout today due to strep throat and decided to watch today's vlog on the TV instead of my phone. You now have a new fan, my 3 month old yellow lab! He enjoyed watching you as you were moving around the screen 😊😊😊
Mud room is something Brian needs for his grubbies when coming in from bike rides, etc. Looking good Brian. I couldn't help but wonder how you got it level without Nick's directions on which way to move the board! Lol!
@@joyce-el7ix Of course we'd love to see Brian's place. He set up his channel because he wants people to watch. Having seen that enormous outhouse, I'm dying to see the rest of the place.
Hey Brian, as long as we have winter, collecting wood is a good thing to do. I love the picture of the boot room; I have no doubt your will be better than that. Have you given us a tour of your "Chateau".... if I missed, I am sorry. Enjoy your dinner. Love from N.Y.
Hi Brian. I love Pinterest. I too fall into GREAT projects. NEVER throw away lumber. (Or any other bits and bobs!!😂)Your boot room will be gorgeous.🎉 Love and blessings to all.❤❤❤❤
Work smarter not harder Brian! Love it!! Talking to myself… I give myself those little pep-talks all as well. Cheers Brian from the northwest corner of the United States.. 🇺🇸
Your house looks amazing with loads of space, wish you didn't have to think about security so much and could show us more. I love that workshop area - could go mad in there creating all sorts of nonsense!
Brian I love that idea for the boot room! Everyone should do that it’s so practical and keeps the mess out of the house . Growing up we had a similar place we called the back room. We 6 kids we had a lot of coats, shoes, boots, snow pants etc! Back then we were outdoor kids not like today🤨 I love the painted Pinterest picture. Hope you had a lovely day😎
My husband was a cabinet maker for years. We have "valuable inventory" in his workshop we've moved twice. First time in 1988, second time in 2009. I have often been glad for that inventory when I say " could you make me a.....?
I worked in the maintenance department of our school board. All the best carpenters on staff were Irish! And now I see another Irishman Carpenter..........a master at his craft!
Brian, I love your choice of music, that slow jazz brings back so many wonderful memories of my now deceased partner and I slow dancing in the kitchen after cleaning the kitchen up after a nice meal. Thank you again for bringing back these memories. I truly enjoy watching your vlogs.
There is something I really like about you. I could listen to you all day. your videos are fun to watch because you never use slowmo or fastmo. Of which some other guy uses to much.. I really feel like I am sharing your thought process and wisdom. btw Princess Bride forever! Who is following you with the camera?

What?? No noggins?? 😭......yes I saw that little message. But on a brighter note.....I've always wanted a "mud room"....aka...."boot room".. and fuuny thing. I saw that same picture on Pinterest thinking how awesome that would have been to have when my kids were growing up. I actually still want a smaller version. Good luck on your project. I know you can do it 👍
Your “boot room” here in the USA is called a “mud room”. Keep up the vlogs and enjoy seeing you on Dan’s channel as well! Hopefully y’all have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
Fantastic start Brian..cant wait to see the completed bootroom. That stunning stone wall at the end...omg. Thank you for sharing your life, challenges and fun times with us all. Hugs Helen. East Gippsland Australia
Hi Brian 👋😊 The pint thingy looks really good and I am sure with your additional touch will be great. I confess when you said you would get it done today I was shaking my head saying "No Brian you won't" not because I don't have faith in you but more because even a professional on his own couldn't finish that in what amounts to half a day after the shopping trip. Ok I may or may not watch a lot of channels that build stuff, renovate, restore etc etc 😳😳
How was camping? Enjoyed today’s vlog- what the kids call “Easter eggs” (hidden messages)? No noggins. 😂 McDs =Dan. ( although coffee not bad imo). What year was your Chateau built? Barn is huge. Have a great week 😂
Just found you today, recognized you from Escape to Rural France channel. I enjoy you very much there so I’m anticipating enjoying you here as well. This is the first video I’ve watched so I don’t really even have an idea of what your project looks like. I will go back and see where you started. I hope it’s not lame to say that I enjoy your Irish accent very much.😊
I just love how friendly and warm you are, Brian, and funny, too, o' course! I have a feeling you'll be getting on with your chateau at a faster pace. And we get so see it whenever you share it with us. Love, Jacqueline from New Zealand.
Over here in Canada the name of the area/ room would be called the mud room. Usually off the kitchen that is near to back door to outside. Some houses do combined mud room with laundry if limited space for that.
Brian you're an absolute legend. Can I recommend an electric de-piller for your beanie? Remember when you do the talky bits make incremental improvements on presentation. You are the best and it's time for channel take-off.
How awesome that you have a chateau....love the stonework in the garage/outbuilding.....as your chateau. ps your music choice is great...thanks. when will you be back to Dan's? is he going to take a little break?
Love the music Brian. 👍 I was guessing it was going to be shelves or something, but that will be a pretty nice looking “boot room” when you get it done. “Future Brian’s problem” I’m going to use that as I put things away to find in the future, like my Christmas decorations. I need to organize them. 😅
Hi Brian I like the concept of the boot/coat room. The farmers around here use a similar concept. Normslly a heated room to hang wet weather gear, boots etc.
BRACE BEHIND THE CLADDING! So when you sit down and fall back just a little too hard you won’t break a hole in the cladding. Elbows cause trouble too with blank spaces!
I get into trouble for not throwing out my wood bits??? Also live in France near La Rochelle. I have renovated my barn into a workshop and also renovated a tiny little house which was used by the gardener on my property. This is a wood shed another workshop for wood working and a garage for my tractor. My house was built about 15 years ago but I have done lots of work on it. Would I go back to the UK? never. My quality of life here in France is much much better. Good Luck with the project.
Collecting wood is actually a hobby of some people. I can vouch that my father has a shed full. Whenever he suggested to my mother that she had too much fabric in her tiny sewing room, she simply raised her eyebrows and pointed at his gigantic shed!

“Never throw out wood”. Great advice. I made the same decision some years ago for the same reasons.

I agree. I wish I knew who the artists and song titles were.
I absolutely agree!
Congratulations and thank you for mowvember! You are a big part of the reason Dan was able to meet the goal! You are awesome 👏
What a fantastic old barn you have there Brian!!!
It will nice to see your place for a change not just the garage
Agree. Would like to see more of your chateau please?
Me three but I do understand Dan gets many uninvited to his Chateau. But if you feel safe Brian yes pls.
I would like to see more of that lovely big barn.
..".............coffee...........". gosh that was the line I needed! Now having coffee, thank you sir
Great idea for the boot room 😊 I love Pinterest for projects, recipes, and traveling ideas. I liked the " No noggins" on your saw.
The stone wall is beautiful 😍
Thank you 🤗
Such a good idea to have a dedicated area for entering from the outside. The photo you shared looked quite pleasing and very needed.
We call that a mud room in the US

You're going to be so happy when you get it finished. Nice addition. 👍
Cant wait to see it finished and love the wall behind you such a cute little window there also
Its great to see you doing stuff around your chateau!! Thank you!!
Never throw away wood! I built a cat castle from scratch this summer...
