Seeing the roof leaking and water leaks after such a short time being empty isn't surprising. The build quality of most of these big projects is sub-standard with cheap materials used and a lot of corners cut to save money, so they may look high-end and very upmarket, but the durability is low and the subsequent maintenance costs are much higher than projected.
yea, no way such projects can be profitable for more than a few years. a roof well built will survive storms for 50 years without leaks... natural slates might even last more than 100. a roof that leaks after 5 years is a nightmare to maintain
Thanks I was thinking this. Surely a modern well built building wouldn't fall apart like this did after 5 years. Roof tiles broken, ceiling panels fallen apart, leaking. Like if I left my house for 5 years, I wouldn't expect it to get so mouldy like this did... It must be that the place was built with cheap components and corners cut... Must have been a maintenance nightmare keeping on top of it all when it was open
Mind boggling that something so lavish gets built, and so quickly runs out of money and is abandoned. And it’s so beautiful. Even though it would never happen, places like this always make me think of the potential we have as a species where everyone could enjoy places like this.
Absurd that they just abandoned it! It’s such a beautiful location. Packed with high end materials and items. Your treatment of the location is very respectful and discreet.
Could be a developer with gambling gangs, mixed with horse racing upper classes. Covid hit and people could not travel, so staff had to be laid off. Such a high staffing need that the business could not survive. Fast money on gambling, gang bosses and their girls - move onto the next shiny thing.
@@SagittarianArrows Yeah. Covid probably is one of the main reasons it was shut down and abandoned, but its still weird that it wasn’t put back in use after the restrictions. As a contractor I see all these costly materials, marble, tiles, exotic woods and glass, but I also see the poor workmanship. In five years the decay shouldnt be this prominent.
What a magnificent place! Such a crime that all that money in decorations and luxury items is just rotting. Thank you for showing us this place! You brought it back to life, even if just for a short time!
Thanks Bob, you kept me entertained while in hospital recently. The swim to the aircraft carrier was something else, very brave. You could've been eaten by a sea monster.
I am honestly too stupid to understand how anyone can acquire the funding for something like this with nothing but hopes and dreams to keep it running or keeping up with the obvious astronomical operating costs…and then just abandoning it like it is nothing not even 10 years later and just leaving it to decay
China has had a huge building boom. A huge bubble, all financed with debt. At some point the economy cooled down (partwise because of the pandemic) and to curb inflation many states increased debt rates. Since the income was not there but the banks demanded money a lot of those companies went bankrupt. They obviously couldn't find a buyer for this so now it's probably the banks that own those basically worthless ruins. Until the next boom starts and they might be able to sell the land to someone who demolishes the whole thing and builds something new.
What an absolute shame! All this beautiful architecture just rotting away! Surely their going to save those beautiful chandeliers😢😢! The only good about these abandoned buildings is that they created a good income for the people who blood sweat and tears built it!! Hopefully!! A terrible waste but a great explore Bob!!😍😍😍
In China, if they caught you doing that. Two things would happen. One, you would be executed. Two. Your mom and dad would be imprisoned until your debt is paid off.

Wow what a magnificent hotel. I don't understand why it is left to decay. I guess the asking price is too high, I hope someone saves it before it's too late. Many thanks for the tour.
great job guys , was starting to think you might have a similar outcome like on the ship with the alarm but you did it without there knowledge of you being inside - really well done and you have a lot of guts going to the front area where the cars are ❤
It's a bit obscene that they just leave all this to rot. What an incredible waste of money. The furniture (desks, beds, nightstands, floor lamps, dining tables, including telephones and Ipod speakers) must be worth over $1 million alone and it could have been repurposed instead of left to rot.
Incredible. It seems to have been abandoned for many, many years but you think it's only been for about 5? The standard of construction must have been poor, with so much water leakage and decay.
Beautiful! Altho...they leave the water run very slowly like that so the pipes dont freeze and burst like they did in the mother room. You should have left it alone. The pipes all over will burst now.
Yowza - what an amazing place! It is so sad to see such a beautiful place abandoned (although I am glad to see that there is no graffiti or signs of vandalism). This may not be a historical place, but it is one that should be one that is archived and saved from ruin. This hotel has many stories that have yet to be told......
The device at 19:45 is a hydrojet massager. It's basically a kind of waterbed with a high-pressure cleaner in it.
