Bus or Train? Which is better for the Sakura viewing trip to the Mt Fuji area?【JAPAN TRAVEL GUIDE】

  • I have compared both train and bus rides to the Mt. Fuji area.
The fare for Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko was 4,130 yen for the train and 2,200 yen for the bus! (Fares vary depending on the time of the year and the place of embarkation and disembarkation)
The bus fare is more economical! However, if you have Japan Rail Pass, you only need to pay for the Fujikyuko portion, which is about 1800 yen!
As for seating, the Fuji excursion has wider seats and was more comfortable. The restrooms are also wider and easier to use on the train.
Buses are more frequent than trains, and if the roads are not congested, buses arrive faster than trains.
※Non-Japanese passport holders can also use the JR Tokyo wide pass to take the Fuji Kaitour without paying extra fees.

HI😁amara-san,🌸Thank you for your kind words. I'm delighted to know that my video was helpful to you! I spent approximately 2 hours in Shimoyoshida and around 5 hours in Kawaguchiko. The round trip around Kawaguchiko-lake is about 17 km, so it seems that 2 to 3 hours should be sufficient for cycling around the lake but that's completely up to you. If you plan to visit cafés and restaurants in Kawaguchiko, I recommend checking their opening hours, as many of them close in the late afternoon. I hope you'll be blessed with fine weather when you visit Mt. Fuji!🥰

I am just finishing my trip here. If you can’t handle standing for at least an hour, then take the Fuji bus and get sign up for a tour. The local trains here are so packed with tourists that very likely you will need to stand. The train ride from Kawatchiko to Osuki station alone is 1 hour. I don’t know about you but my feet can’t stand for that long.

HiAbner-san😉Thank you for your comment. I'm delighted that my video proved helpful to you!
During the New Year's holiday, both trains and buses will be operational. However, they tend to get very crowded, so I recommend making your reservations well in advance. Just a gentle reminder, highways can become extremely congested during the New Year's holidays as many people travel to visit their relatives. Consequently, there is a possibility that express buses may not adhere to their schedules.
Please plan your itinerary with some flexibility.

Hi Rian-san, thank you for watching! If I were you, I would go from Narita to Shinjuku, and from there take a bus. Buses depart from Shinjuku to FujiQ at 20:15 and 22:25. Please note that you cannot board the bus without a reservation.
When taking a train, the time you would be traveling falls during rush hour, when trains are crowded and transferring to stations with a suitcase can be quite challenging. However, if you manage to catch this train, you can go directly from Tokyo Station or Shinjuku to Fujikyu Highland Station! This train is a regular local service, so you don't need to make a reservation. However, you may not be able to find seating until around Hachioji Station. Additionally, operating hours vary between weekdays and holidays. Please be careful! For more information, please visit: www.fujikyu-railway.jp/train/jr_train07.php

Will you be using the Chuo Expressway Shimoyoshida bus stop? Shimoyoshida station is approximately a 10-minute walk from there. To reach Kawaguchiko Station from Shimoyoshida Station, you can take the Fujikyu Line, which usually takes about 13 minutes. The cost for this journey is 305 yen when using an IC card.

Hi, Kimura Takuya-san, thank you for watching my video.😉
Handling of large luggage may vary by bus company, but for Fujikyu City Bus, the website states the following:
Please handle the loading and unloading of your luggage from the trunk by yourself. If you are getting off at an intermediate stop, be careful not to forget your belongings.
At the departure point and the final destination, the driver will likely open the compartment door, but if you are getting off at an intermediate stop, you might need to open it yourself. In that case, please confirm with the driver.

      Hi Jojojoba-san😉😉
You can book a bus from outside Japan by using the link I provided in the video's description section. If you plan to depart from Shinjuku, you can use Highwaybus.com. Please select Yamanashi as your destination.
It is possible to book the bus even a week before the boarding date, but there is a possibility that the bus will be full. So if you have a specific date in mind for your trip to Kawaguchiko, I recommend making a reservation as early as possible. Reservations can be made up to one month in advance.
October is approaching quickly, and Japan is eagerly awaiting your visit!😘😘

The highway bus between Shinjuku and Kawaguchiko only offers reserved seats. It is possible to board without a reservation if there are seats available on the day, but generally, a reservation is recommended.
Are you able to open the second link in the description section? Please go to the first page of the site and select "Tokyo" and "Yamanashi" in the "Route Search," and you will find the "Shinjuku - Fujigoko - Mt. Fuji 5th Station Line."

HiNdeckersightseer-san😉Yes!! Please make sure to reserve your return bus in advance. Additionally, try to book it as soon as your itinerary is confirmed. During the cherry blossom season, it gets extremely crowded, so there's a high chance that there won't be any available seats on the day of travel.
