  • Here are the most efficient ways to get from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji. The Five Lakes area at the base of Mt. Fuji is a popular day trip or getaway from Tokyo. It takes around 2 hours to reach Kawaguchiko Station, the launching point to explore the area. Then you can take in the views from the lakes or climb to the iconic Chureito Pagoda. • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, excellent question! whenever you are not traveling with a pass such as the whole JR Pass or in your case the Hokuriku Arch Pass, there will be two separate fees whenever you ride on either an express train or super express train ( shinkansen bullet train ). So when you take a local train, consider that your base fare. There is always a base fare and this is the lowest. Then once you ride on an express train, ex: The Fuji Excursion, since this train is an express train you need to pay extra to ride it. Instead of just issuing one single ticket for the express, you get two tickets. The base fare and the express fare. I hope this makes sense. let me know if you need further clarification :)

    Hi! Thanks for the helpful video. We will be traveling from Nikko all the way down to Kawaguchiko in one day. Which route and mode of transport would you recommend to take?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, there is no direct route so we recommend taking an express train from Nikko to Tokyo. Then once in Tokyo travel to Shinjuku station where you can either take a bus or the Fuji Excursion to Kawaguchiko station. But you will need to book the bus or Fuji excursion in advance as they will most likely be sold out on the actual travel day. From ShinjukuThe bus is usually faster than taking the train, depends on the bus.

    Thank you for you video, that was helpful, btw we were planning to go to fuji + hakone this Feb, do you had any information related to luggage rule? are we able to bring our suitcase for the transportation between these 2 place. or do we need to leave our suitcase at Tokyo and bring only small bag to go there (we were planning for 3 days trip on fuji+hako).

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, glad the video was helpful. We also have videos on Hakone which you might find helpful :). As for your luggage, we are working on an updated video about luggage forwarding and storage. You can certainly bring your luggage with you if that is your preference. The key is to have it shipped early enough from Fuji to Hakone, so you will have it in time. I suggest at least one day before. So at your accommodation in Fuji, ask the front desk if they can help you with Yamato transport. They will immediately know what you are talking about and will be able to assist. We will be making an updated video on this topic very soon.

    Thank you for the awesome video!! I have a question though; I will be travelling this April from Tokyo to Mount Fuji, is this season good to see the mountain ? I have the JR pass already, I am planning to buy the unlimited pass to get around place just for one day, will this pass cover the transport back from Kawaguchi Station to Otsuki ? or do I need to purchase a separate one ? Would you recommend buying the buss pass for just visiting one day ?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, we will also be there this April but we can only hope the weather will be good. It's always hit or miss, so the longer you stay the better chance. typically the best season to see Fuji is during the winter months but spring can be good too.
      It depends on the type of pass, but most will loop back to Kawaguchiko. Which pass are you interested in for the one day? I do believe Mt Fuji Pass will cover to Otsuki Station. And yes, if you plan to ride around the lakes then the bus pass is a good option for a day as it will be an efficient method.

    Hi, thanks a lot for the tips. However, what would you recommend to people hoping to cover both Hakone and Mt Fuji 5 Lakes areas together? I am looking at the Fuji Hakone pass which costs 9340 JPY for an adult and it's valid for 3 days. Is the pass worth the money and are the inclusions good enough? Also, is 1 day sufficient to experience most things around Hakone so that the remaining 2 days could be spent at the 5 Lakes area? View wise, would you recommend exploring these areas during the cherry blossom season? Is the weather gonna be sunny and clear during the spring? 🙏

      Hi. Yes, we recommend the Fuji-Hakone Pass if you want to visit both. Please look closely at the map of what is included, as it is a different route than the one we explained in this video. Yes, you can complete the Hakone sightseeing loop in one day. I described the major places to see in Hakone in this separate video. Your ending point would be a different, if you are heading on to Mt. Fuji: th-cam.com/video/XpuGU_2zNuQ/w-d-xo.html
      Sunshine isn't guaranteed in the spring, but if you are lucky you can get both clear skies and cherry blossoms. We will visit Mt. Fuji, Hakone, and Kamakura in the spring. Hello again, I really enjoyed your live Q&A today. Thank you for all you do.
    We are planning to go to Japan in January 2026, but we will need to finalise our itinerary to start booking soon.
    Flying direct from Perth, Western Australia, we only have the option to land at Narita airport at 8.30am. One member of our family gets very motion sick, so the bus is out, but we want to go direct from the airport to Kawaguchiko. Timing of flight arrival would mean we would probably miss the express Fuji train, but we could catch the Narita Express and other local trains. Would we need to book any of these in advance? We would be arriving on Friday 2nd January. Then we want to go from Kawaguchiko to Hiroshima on Sunday 4th January. As per your video, I assume we would need to book the Shinkensen (Green car) in advance, but to get to Yokohama from Kawaguchiko? Are these just local trains?
    Do we need to transfer along the Yokohama to Hiroshima route? When you transfer local or Shinkansen trains, do you buy/book tickets from origin to final destination? Or multiple tickets for each leg of the train journey?
    Eg, do we need to buy tickets from airport to Tokyo, then at Tokyo buy tickets to Otsuki, then at Otsuki buy tickets to Kawaguchiko? Or can we buy tickets at airport? Or can we book them all online before hand? Research I've done indicates tickets from the airport don't need to be purchased in advance. This will be better, as it may take a short or long time to get out of the airport terminal. I hope all this makes sense. Thanks again for all your help.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi, thanks for joining us for the Live today!
      I think you have time to catch the Fuji Excursion as there are trains even at 4pm. Take the Narita Express (NEX) to Shinjuku Station. then switch to the Fuji Excursion. Just be sure to purchase your fuji excursion tickets in advance since they usually sell out. NEX can be purchased at the airport and does not need to be purchased in advance as they are very frequent. But Klook might be cheaper...
      As per the video, take the trains to Shin-Yokohama station where you will get on the Tokaido Shinkansen. You can again purchase the Fuji Excursion to Hachioji Station where you can use an IC card or paper ticket for the local train to Shin-Yokohama Station.
      You can purchase your shinkasen ticket up to 90 days in advance from Klook. Otherwise, if you purchase directly from JR you can purchase up to 30 days in advance. You can purchase directly from Shin-Yokohama to Hiroshima. I recommend purchasing on the Nozomi Shinkansen as it will be the fastest train and only take 3:31 to reach Hiroshima.
      I hope this helps!

      Hi, I understand your concern. Indeed, you may not see Mt Fuji. The best time is definitely during the winter. With that said, for trains, you can request a refund by visiting the JR ticketing office in Tokyo as long as your train has yet to depart.

      Hi, sorry for any confusion. If you have the whole JR Pass then you can only get as far as Otsuki Station. Then from this point onward you need to pay separately since you will be traveling on the Fujikyu Railway. At 3:57 the Fujikyu railway is covered if you have purchased the Tokyo Wide Pass. We plan to take buses (around 2hrs 30mins). Once you get to Gotemba Premium Outlets there is an Express Bus the rest of the way to Kawaguchiko Station, but that might need to be reserved in advance. Our family has a Japan trip planned staying in Nagoya(JR pass), a day trip to Mt Fuji makes me nervous not knowing what routes are covered with JR; which public transport do I need to book for arriving and departing? i am considering renting a car for day to avoid this uncertainty, any help greatly appreciated 🙏 EDIT: I went ahead and booked 2day Mt Fuji pass, are we able to board bus/train tickets with flexibility or do we still have to reserve seats...thx again

      Hi, yes, for most of the transportation using the Mt Fuji Pass you can just hop on and hop off with no issues. But depending on time of year it can be busy, such as during cherry blossom season. If you are going to ride any express trains like the Fuji Excursion then a reservation is a good idea.

      Hi, you can certainly wait until the day of travel. However, do consider that express trains may be sold out from Kawaguchiko to Hachioji. so this first section you may want to buy in advance. But no problem purchasing the other parts of your journey on day of travel including the shinkansen since that route has over 100 trains/day.
