Thanks for all the support on this video and info about Mic Options:
Update about the Audio Options:
1. You can use other mic's via the USB-C port. ( th-cam.com/video/NgWBQtEaLMM/w-d-xo.html )
2. Apparently only the DJI Mic 2 works natively with the camera and not the DJI Mic 1.
I think I'll wait for the DJI Mic 2 to be released and Return my DJI Mic 1.
Return the camera and pick up a new Creator kit ;)
One thing that most reviews don't talk about is that this can be used as an excellent web cam/live stream camera - just plug it in, no software, drivers, or fiddly settings etc needed. And the tracking is awesome, you can walk around your room/studio and it looks as though you have a pro-camera operator following you.
that's actually a great call man! something that i'll try and use as a video idea in the future! Thanks for you comment and supporting the channel!
Very cool video on the Pocket 3. This is the video I needed to see. I’m really thinking about purchasing this now 🤔.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Happy Holidays!
✌️😎
What do you currently shoot with?
@@MattyDCCollins Sony FX30, GoPro Hero 10 & 7, iPhone 15 Pro. Besides a few different drones.
It is indeed an amazing camera !
Thanks for the comment, yeah I'm stoked on it!
Awesome video Matt. Subbed.
Heyyy! Welcome to the community, I appreciate you!
Thanks for including these links to download! I will ask some questions and finish with a tip for users. Regarding the videos, they are 10-bit 4:2:0, not 4:2:2, right? I don't suppose this little thing does 4:2:2. As for the bitrate, it appears to be a bit more than 80 Mbps. The advertised 130 bitrate is for higher frame rates, like 60 fps? Here's my most important question: These video samples appear to be BT.709. Is this the color profile the M-Log records with? If yes, is recording in HLG BT.2020? It's supposed to be a wider color gamut and maybe it gives more room for post-production and even results in better sky. The sky in low light appears to be with no visible banding which is a plus for this camera. The sky both in the low light and the auto-setting videos appears to be the same as an 8-bit Sony camera, with no visible noise but a kind of compression with something "boiling" that needs to be improved with Neat for a perfect result. I am comparing this to an APS-C Sony camera and does not look worse, which is a plus for the small DJI. Maybe if it were 4:2:2, it could be better. Don't get me wrong, I am buying this camera, for the convenience it offers. I already ordered maybe the only variable ND filters I could find, (not fixed ones) and will wait for the camera. Finally, here's a small tip about the photos. It requires going the extra mile, but it might help some. Open the dng in Photoshop and select Enhance. This will create a new 7680x4320 dng, still 16:9. If you now crop this to 3:2 you have a new 6840x4320 pic to work with, which looks decent. Now you can scale down to anything you want. If you want to play it safe, a 4200x2800 looks convincing, as it "hides" some overblown imperfections and is still larger than the original, resulting in almost 12 Megapixels. Again, thanks for providing these samples to test!
Just recently picked this up. I must say it's quit impressive. As a professional photographer/videographer, it's nice having something this compact versus lugging around a larger mirrorless camera and different lenses (especially if I'm only grabbing content for social media). I don't regret buying this at all.
I love this little camera, i was happy to get rid of a ZV1 and RX0ii, this thing is a monster in the pocket.
Totally agree with this ben, was definitely surprised with this purchase. Doesn't replace my mirrorless but a perfect companion like your said for social media stuff. The Mimo app works good too and is easy to transfer to your phone.
Yea, I definitely prefer it to the ZV1 cameras @@RyanPerrella
Great video Matty.
Right now I’m happy with making content with my iPhone and keeping things basic. But definitely starting to gain some momentum and thinking of upping my game and making better quality filming and production. This video maybe the turning point where I get after it.
Cheers.
Thanks for the support buddy, yeah all that matters is that you're documenting your adventures, the tool you use is far less important than the story!
My DJI pocket version 2 is still awesome for vlogging and smooth simple b roll. I’m gonna wait till next pocket that truly does portrait filming.
Yeah, honestly it was a big jump from the 2 to the 3 but if it does what you need no need to upgrade!
I have a pocket 2 and I find the video quality amazing.
That's actually awesome, it's so important to create within your means, we'll always want the next camera but great to know that the pocket 2 is doing it for you!
Great review, thank you for the sample files as well.
Thanks for your comment buddy means a lot. Glad it helped
Nice review. I just picked one up with the creator combo. Are you on Blackbox? I go to Jordan often and saw some nice clips of a woman walking above an overlook of the Monastery in Petra and looked like someone in your group. I only watched because I have so much footage of Jordan and it caught my eye when I logged in. Thanks for the review.
haha no way! I am on blackbox but just for my drone work. That must be the work of someone else :) thank you for stopping in to the channel :)
@@MattyDCCollins - you have wonderful travel video tips and I travel a lot so I subscribed and am sure I will enjoy learning more from you.
I’m more a photographer but I wanted to get more into travel and family video so here I am with the pocket 3.
It is honestly not bad for both! Hope you're enjoying it
I agree with most of what you said in the video. The quality for the size and price is shocking. You can use external mics plugged in through the USBC port but I personally just record externally (Instamic) and sync in post. I do want the DJI Mic II though since I also got the same combo as you. My hope now is that they come out with a pro version using the m43 sensor from the Mavic 3 drones and have some dials for changing settings more quickly.
Thanks for the comment Andrew! Good point about the USB C work around for mics.
Great video ... Thanks for this. FYI from what Ive seen. When people say the DJI 1 mic works. They mean you have to plug in the receiver ( usb) into the USB on the Pocket 3. ( so you could also use a Rode mic etc also )
But sad you couldn't get the combo as the mic 2 has the ability to "sync" which basically means it can record to the pocket AND keep a version directly on the mic 2 as a backup. All the best !
Thanks for the heads up, I might have to return it and wait for the mic 2's, I'm looking to have something that internally recognizes without having to mess around with transmitters
@@MattyDCCollins you should chat online with DJI etc to figure out what you want ( the combo kit does have the mic 2 .)
"Tell me that's not sick bro" 😂 MAN I MISS YOU. I think we were all skeptical about this thing ahahaha but it actually looks really good man. No idea how those truck driving shots are stable. Love the review brotha
Thanks buddy I appreciate ya! Yea the footage goes stupid for what it is, miss u too buddy - Feb 1st tomorrow!
@@MattyDCCollins FEB 1st!!! It's time buddy. Let's make some magic happen.
The built in receiver only works with the unreleased DJI Mic 2 system but any wireless will work through the usbc
Thanks Cole might have to return my DJI Mic v 1 and get the 2 lol
thank you for your help
Happy to help! thank for your comment!
hi, nice video. 1. you aren't stuck with proprietary mics if you take advantage of the USB-C port. and or with a dongle if you're still using 3.5 connectors.
I just got my pocket 3 so I'm still experimenting. One thing I'd like to mention from your video i noticed that sometimes it's choppy when panning left and right.... and it seems to happen to me too after editing and yet at other times it's absolutely buttery smooth. what do you think is the cause so i can work around this?
Don’t use the joystick to pan or tilt... Gimbal moves can be smoothed
@@photographiezautrement 👍
thanks for the comment adz! I'm really wanting a mic that I don't need dongles for but that's good to know!
yeah, me too. I'm waiting for the mic 2 to be sold separately.@@MattyDCCollins
Can you change the screen orientation while recording or do you have to turn the recording off, change screen orientation and then start recording again?
from what I remember you can but it will keep the same recording orientation of when you pressed the record button :)
Great video but just a bit of advice, put your mic off angle from the direction you're facing. When you have it directly in front of your face, every P or B sound gets picked up WAY more. A pop filter works well for that too. I was watching on my TV and soundbar and you had my room shaking lol
Thanks Albert! Gonna need to get a pop filter for sure! That would be so annoying lol I couldn't really notice with playback on my Mac
@@MattyDCCollins Do you listen back with headphones before you render the final video?
External mics can be plugged in the USBC port
I appreciate you!
This is an exemplary choice for capturing footage in restricted filming environments, or those where the use of a traditional camera may not be permitted.
so true, it's funny how a camera form factor can alter people's opinion on whether to let them in to a venue or not
creator combo is only available in Dubai mall i just purchased last week
Wish I got one to start with lol
If you already had an iPhone 15 Pro (Max?), would it not be better to just get an Insta360 Flow gimbal? the iPhone has 3 lenses and shoots ProRes. What do you think?
that really depends on you're work flow, I think the pocket 3 would be much simpler but both work for sure!
But not a one inch sensor...
I wonder how the gimbal will last in sandy or dusty environments?
I didn't have an issue at all with that :) the case did a great job and I was there for 4 days with it
I think to get one as a B-Cam next to my Blackmagic 6k Pro for Wedding Films. With Cinematch and Filmconvert i should get close to the look of the BMC.
Yeah I think you'd be okay for sure man!
I got P2 and this P3 is way better and love it every min of it. And I bought it in Thailand for $850cad creator combo way cheaper than canada. I have checked the price in amazon canada its over a $1000cad for creator combo set.
sounds like a great deal!
@@MattyDCCollins yes it is. Im from mississauga now living here when i compared the price i had to get it
6:47 but you don’t need the extender.
That said, great review.
I appreciate your support man! Thank you
You need the extender if you want to add a tripod as there is no 1/4 20 thread in the base of the camera without.
is low light is it good to use its "low light mode" or is it useless ?
It’s pretty impressive, I don’t think you can use the log feature in it though
For a small camera, the NDs become a hassle. You miss the shot and moment trying to fiddle around too much.
Yeah for sure, would love a variable!
what is the difference between a gimble n this camera apart from portability and price?
Hey buddy I don’t know if I understand the question fully. Can you re phrase it?
Buddy, gimble has same function as osmo pocket 3 but Gimble price is way more cheaper than pocket 3.
I want to take this camera to the desert. I'm concerned about the sand. Didn't you have a problem?
no problem, just throw it in your bag and use the provided case :)
How is it compared to the Osmo Action 4?
I think they have a lot different use cases tbh, if you need something rugged, go Action 4!
отличный обзор
can you translate to english for me?
Excellent review
I've seen literally hundreds of reviews for the DJI osmo pocket 3 but none of the reviewers have commented on whether this Gimbal is equally suited for right-handed and left-handed people. I bought a Gimbal for my mobile phone but when I use it with my left hand it is thoroughly and totally useless. So I need some advice on this.
that's such an interesting question, I've never seen that either. I'm sure it could work with left and right handed people though?
@@MattyDCCollins not really. I bought a Gimbal for my mobile phone, but I find it very difficult to operate it with my left hand. I am left-handed. I guess the most frequently used button needs to be diagonally opposite the thumb, not vertically above the thumb. Ah well.
price could be lower ... for 379$ this would be a great deal
You can buy a single camera lens for over $2000. This is an excellent package.
I low key always wish cameras were cheaper but if something suits your needs, I would save the extra and get it.
@@Reviews4fun1 yes I do have some
Does it overheat?
1:10 minutes 4k 60 battery died before it overheated - th-cam.com/video/YgamzPb1JtY/w-d-xo.html
The camera has a shallow depth of field, not greater. This is due to the large sensor and wide lens. A camera with greater depth of field would have both close-in and distant object in focus at the same time. Shallow depth of field results in distant objects becoming blurred. Also, I disagree with you the camera and still photography. While a professional photographer might find the photos lacking because of the small number of pixels and hence less detail. This is ideal for taking still photos at night especially having the camera stabilized and eliminating the need for a tripod. Also, the camera takes both 1X1 and 16X9 still images as well as 3X3 and 180-degree panoramas. Bottom line: no camera is a jack-of-all trades. But this camera offers a lot in a small, portable package.
well said Allen! and yeah my mistake I think I should have used bokeh or background blur instead of depth of field correct? It's my understanding that the larger the camera sensor the better the background blur/separation you can achieve
@@MattyDCCollins Not necessarily. It depends on the mm size of the lens as well. In digital cameras to get everything near and far in focus at the same time, the image put on the sensor has to be very small. The larger that image, the shallower the depth of field. Making the image smaller can be achieved by "stopping down" the f-stop (actually this is a higher number, so it might seem to be an oxymoron) to create a smaller point of light on the sensor. However, with the Pocket 3, there is no control over f-stop and it is a fixed f 2.0 with a wide lens. Hence the shallow depth of field and bokeh. The f 2.0 is probably a compromise by DJI between having so much bokeh that your nose is in focus and your ears aren't. If you want to see how valuable understanding depth-of-field can be, do a Google search of depth of field scale. Growing up with film cameras that had these on them, I found it very useful in using the f-stop to determine what would and what would not be in focus.
Depends on the apature...
only one link?
i've updated it :)
@@MattyDCCollins thank you, so i colorgrade myself :)
Do yourself a favor and return and get the creator combo. Lol
haha I would have if they had it in stock :(
