Got it as well. It's honestly all 99% of people need. Size and ease of use is what makes it. Auto pairing with wireless mic is also amazing. It nails sound and image.
I could toss it to my mother in law who never used a camera, then after quick explanation, she was able to get incredible footage for me.

Full agree with you on that one! I've wanted to create a channel for filming my DJ, music production, and hiking vlogs but felt massively overwhelmed so kept getting put off by too much choice/feeling like I make the wrong purchase etc. This is perfect all in one for me for capturing live gigs, recording me at home and out on my hikes too.

You may be doing the right thing to use the auto mode most of the time. Doing some testing last night I noticed that even if the settings displayed in auto mode are replicated in manual mode, the image is significantly different - for instance, face exposure against a light background is spot on, whereas in manual is was much darker. Some AI processing going on, I think, not just global exposure setting.
When using filters, if it tucked the filter away when powering off, you could not change the filter as readily as you did when discussing this issue. Just a thought.
Background blur - I think it is partly a matter of changing shooting style to accommodate this. If you are vlogging about a location, spend less time in selfie mode and more time just showing the scene, in focus, while you talk off camera. And if the camera focusses on the wrong thing, tap the required focus point on the screen.
My two gripes are the way in which the internal mics recorded on the audio backup wave file collapse to mono when using the Mic 2 (but not a third party mic...) and the external mic disconnection which happens when the mic is connected to the port on the battery handle and the battery goes flat. This could be disasterous for a prolonged shot at an event. Like missing the vows in a wedding video for instance...
I just came back from a ski trip and was surprised how well the battery held. It was mostly enough for the full day and in one occasion I just used a powerbank while I drank some wine. I used to have a gopro and it was a nighmare in colder weather.

It can replace any camera, I have the original Osmo Pocket to me it was great I used it as a main camera along with 3 other camera for a music video recording of a band and the low light footage was good.
It's not on par with my Sony cams it's a fact but it's good and good enough for youtube our target audience viewing them they don't care what camera I used or know settings I have they know the content was great the filming was good multiple cameras and music video is what they wanted.
We are so spoiled in camera tech these day that we're forgetting where we came from like in the era in the 90s of Sony camcorders that were fantastic to people then and good enough for America's Funniest Videos.

Do you know if you can automatically tag location with Oslo pocket 3? For me is a deal breaker since I want to take advantage of the photos app to filter using places or the memories for some vacations. Of course I don’t want to tag one by one, it could be great if it uses my iPhone’s GPS.

I like my Nikon Z30 with the 12-28mm PZ Lens. Sits on my DJI Mini 3 Pro. I put my money on a DJI Pocket 3 Pro coming soon!
DJI is a Chinese manufacturer. In Asia the FILTER GAME is insane and in China it's on steroids. Western reviewers all seem to 💩on the inclusion of the beauty filter but its a solid selling point in the east and doesn't affect usage if you don't want to use it.
I don’t mind it, I just don’t see the use case really, or I do but also don’t lol. I work with Sony and I work sometimes with DJI as well (this video was not sponsored). And they always want me to emphasise on the beauty filters 😂 I’m always like “uhm I’m a grown ass full bearded Viking dude”
@@thaticelandicguy a western male is definitely not the target demographic, 😅; though the effects can enhance male faces without feminizing them with a subtle hand. If anything my complaint is that the beauty filter has to be generated via smartphone export which makes the workflow process more tedious.

Great review! I'm down to using my cell for everything now. got a new pixel and it's good enough lol not as good as my M6 mark ii but gets good enough shots so fast and built in stabilization plus it's always with me makes Cameras start to feel burdensome lol.

I don't film myself, but I don't have a gimbal, so I was wondering if this would be useful for when I need a steady pan or follow clip. But then I have my phone that can do that. So Im really not sure if I'd end up using it. I also believe you can't set it to just being still and not tracking
It does not track unless you tell it to.
Can you use a wireless module with Pocket 3? With previous versions you could remotely control the Pocket which was a great option.

So the reason the quality drops when you increase the framerate, I’m sure you know but some viewers might wonder, it’s simply because of the bitrate being devided by the number of frames per seconds 💁🏽♂
You have this limitated bandwith so if you ask to fit more frames in it, each frames has to contain less informations…
It’s not necesarely an exact division because it depends how they setup their codec but anyway, you usually can’t get the same quality when you double the framerates…

Is there a way to use the new DJI Mic 2 Transmiter WITHOUT the Osmo 3. Is there way to connect it to your phone somehow with a transmitter?

How did you manage to sound this good with this mic? When I import the footage to FCPX the volume out of this mic -25db. When I try to pull it up, it's clipping. The sound is so muffled and its mono.
there is a 32bit recording mode for the MIC 2 receiver.
I like the blur background and wish it had more .... reason: people are becoming more aggressive for image rights.

Would you rather take this or something like the Iphone 15 Pro to should LOG footage? I think the Pocket 3 size is currently unbeatable, but phone footage are similar, depending on light condition, since pocket has 1inch sensor.

You have to compare with a phone on a gimbal. And that is large and expensive. A gimbal is much more than just a stabilizer.
It is not similar to a phone, it is much better. Especially in low light. The stabilization is unparalleled too.
Only thing I wished is for more zoom cause 2x is not it 😂. Not sure it'll possible to slap the Mavic's dual camera system and call it a day or just have a single long module for all 3 focal length. Let's just see how DJI do that with the 4.
The zoom is just a crop which you could do when editing so it is best not used unless you have to.
Hello. I want to use DJI Osmo Pocket 3 as a webcam in Twitch live broadcasts. Will I have any problems with long-term use? What are your suggestions? Have you encountered problems such as overheating or shutting down?
Hi! I'm using it in my livestreams and in online calls through ZOOM or Teams, Ecamm, all fine, no overheating. Just use either the original cable that the Pocket3 came with or a very good quality one.
8:27 regarding the background blur, you are on to something. It's just strange and artificial-looking when a blurry background stays rock-stable while the walking vlogger's in-focus head bounces around like a pinball within the frame.
A fix would be a setting that makes the gimbal track the focused face, letting the background move around naturally.
Doesn’t it feel a little artificial? I’ve always thought that it might be enhanced.
It is a f2.0 lens and 20mm equivalent. So if you are close it should give you some bokeh. But still.
New Feature Requests for the New DJI OSMO Pocket 3
1. Add a dwelling time for each of up to four settable movement positions in Motion Time-Lapse Mode. As each of the four settable positions programmed into a motion time-lapse sequence is reached, the end user could set from 1 to 10 seconds of a pause in gimbal movement as each programmed position is reached during the sequence before the gimbal moves forward to the next programmed position. This would yield a much more dynamic and professional looking, smoother motion time-lapse sequence.
2. In Motion Time-Lapse Mode the ability to set movement ease in and ease out settings from 0.5 to 3 seconds for each programmable gimbal position before gimbal movement normal progression rate is reached.
3. True 24.00p filming speed.
4. The ability to set time-lapse sequences based on 24.00p.
5. The ability to be able to record from the DJI Mic 2 and from a plugged in via USB audio source at the same time.
6. Adding a 10 Bit 4:2:2 recordable video codec.
7. Please add zoom capability when shooting in all time-lapse modes.
Zoom is best avoided on this camera - it has no spare pixels, unlike the previous model, so it is no different from cropping when editing (where you can change your mind).
@@Ozpeter Yes. I understand that, but sometimes you need to get just a little closer to that mountain top. I would have thought it was just the opposite with the OSMO Pocket 3, because I don't see much image degradation when you zoom in 2X in 4K on the one inch sensor. On the OG OSMO Pocket the sensor was the same size as most small cell phones, and there were many shots I made where I thought the results were too wide but digitally zooming in post was not really an option due to the tiny sensor. Since number three has a one inch sensor, then you could also stay wide and zoom in post and probably get a better result.
@@markjob6354 Consensus seems to be that DJI made the right choice in choosing a 1" type sensor with large pixels and fewer of them. The previous model had a quad beyer sensor so that when zooming, it could use those spare pixels with much less quality loss than a plain crop would provide. Now those spare pixels are not present, so the more you zoom in, the more you move from 4K to 1080.

You beat me to it! But it can be handy as a quick release tripod mount. When required, leave the little attachment on the tripod or selfie stick and simply remove the camera from it instantly (even during a shot!)

Dude, learn your camera please:
1) Focus breathing? Lock the focus before you start shooting something that you know doesn't need refocusing
2) The camera DOES recognize when you have the wide-angle lens on it and turn it off, and it will stop the rotation half way allowing you to store the camera in the case with the gimbal locked in the correct side position WITHOUT THE NEED TO TAKE THE LENS OFF.
Lessons learned.

Gotta be honest, 3:10 you mention both handles as batteries and not needing both 😢 makes me think you aren’t that familiar with this product.
Both have a different purpose. You def need both if you plan to use the tripod/charge.
this is definitely not ideal for travel. not water proof like osmo action, fixed lens ( you need to zoom with your feet to get a variety of shoots), fragile gimbal, bobbing when walking, pricey etc.

Thanks for the review :) I thought long and hard about getting this one for my walking shots, and subtle filming shots, but went with the Insta360 Ace Pro in the end because I wanted to vlog in the rain when needed and I also wasn't convinced I wouldn't break the Osmo... I wanted something more robust. I enjoyed your review! :)

You can do all this with an iPhone 15 Pro Max, plus you can get 13mm-120mm focal lengths, better colors, MUCH high quality video in ProRes and better LOG. No reason to buy an Osmo Pocket.

Half the price in my country, I think that is a good reason. Add to it the problems inherent to any smartphone, (battery life etc). IPhone is amazing, don't get me wrong, but It is not a competitor in this price range and type of product.
Yea most probably can use their phone, but as stated above iPhone 15max is much more expensive. Plus the ProRes is such an hassle, big files and you need to carry an external ssd drive with you.
But you get different lenses with the iphone. But then on the other hand the osmo has a gimbal, 1inch sensor, a transmitter microphone and it’s super user friendly.
I think it just comes down to preference and budget.
@@thaticelandicguy I use a little thumb drive for my 15 Pro Max, it's great and doesnt add much of anything to the setup. A very small hassle to get like 20 times better quality video. Even the 4k 30p ProRes with no external drive needed shoots in 12 bit at 760mbps. The 4K 60p Pocket 3 only shoots 10 bit at 56mbps.The 4K 30 shoots something awful like 48mbps. It's really not even close. Far more quality and detail in the ProRes files. But yes, if you are not in the US, the price is a definite factor.
An iPhone is not a gimbal camera. A hammer is not a screwdriver. It is a matter of choosing the right tool for the job.

I really love this camera. Very close to perfect. My only two gripes (and these are pretty small!) are:
1. It takes too long to turn on and start filming. It's like a few seconds. And considering this is the kind of camera you want to be able to just whip out and start filming with, that is a little bit frustrating. But you get used to it.
2. The notifications, for example when connecting the microphone, are a bit too in the way, and they stay for too long. When I want to film something quickly, I hate having a third of the screen blocked by a notification that the microphone was connected.
But all in all I love this camera, and I see nothing else on the market that comes close to it if you want a small simple vlog camera that gives beautiful footage!
Your first point, ''too long to turn on and start filming'' - there is an option to automatically start filming as you rotate the screen/turn on the device! It takes >1.5s to do so, that's not very long - and the feature is very convenient!
Second point, I agree - there should be an option to fully deactivate them, or conditionally deactivate them (off when filming, etc)
Dude, 1.5 seconds is pretty dang fast. The only way to go faster is to tape the camera to your body and leave it recording 24hrs/7. Then you will never miss any 1.5 seconds of your daily life :D
Dude, you're talking nonsense, you should talk about the bottom line, how shitty the gimbal is when you turn the camera on. Show that in the video...
I did watch another video recently that really didn't like it at all. The focus jumped the panning jerked and the stabalastion wasn't that brilliant - he also didn't like how you could fix it down so it didn't move or track - plus a whole lot more problems
@@markshirley01 If you turn the camera on in FPV, tilt lock or Follow mode, the gimbal will always stay horizontal, even if you tilt the camera head forward up to 45 degrees. Nobody talks about this bug or any other bug. With the pocket 1 and pocket 2 camera if you turned it on in follow or FPV mode for example, you didn't have to hold the forward facing vertically and you didn't have to re-center the gimbal to finally be able to use the camera normally.
What a super film. I'd watched yours after Tom Heaton's and the two of your seem to have found that bugginess, where sometimes it just seems to refuse to play. I guess that must be slightly agitating - but it doesn't seem to have affected you personally quite so much. Your style, your commentary, your narration and your humour, very very natural. Not forced - I'm a subscriber now and it's great to 'meet' you!
