You can keep them going on antibiotics until the clostridial gangrenous line of separation shows and then you wait until the ‘black garget’ separates and drops off. A lot of care but a cull ewe gets some money instead of paying for disposal.
@@CowleyHillFarm no bad welfare involved, provided it is what is known as dry gangrene where the blood supply is completely cut off at the line of demarkation, ask any vet. It just requires some caring time and effort from the keeper.
we had border Leicester sheep for a lot of years. I the end the lost their mothering ability and were very lean and dry. it's a shame cos their nice sheep
I use heptavac P as it covers 8 diseases plus pneumonia whereas ovivac only covers 4 of those 8. Covexins big down side is that it doesn’t cover pneumonia
Yea, I wouldn't listen to someone who told me to do something just because "a lot around here do." You've given zero explanation why the way you're suggesting he should do things is better. I expect he's following his vets advice which trumps yours every time.

Completely disagree sorry but I would never keep a ewe going for my own benefit if the right thing to do is put them down.

Covexin 10 you should be using and ovipas p as well
