I love the borders but went with the Leicester Longwools. They’re so gentle and sweet. They come by name to get a good jowl scratch and they live on the grass only putting on 120lbs in 5 mo. To market. Our ram tips in at 330lbs. We love them! Agreed that shetlands are a wild breed but they serve well in really sketchy grazing and rough weather. We go 18 mo before breeding the first time. If they breed well they’re family if not their supper.

Very cool! 120 lbs in 5 months is a lot! We've not had a Leicester Longwool, but reading your post makes me want one :)

Great video!! Would love more info like are they fairly disease prone if treated well, most common diseases and how to treat, fed healthy… how often do they need shearing, pregnancy needs and birthing… if ever you decide to make more vids! Thanks from Canada

Our ewes are about 140-150 lbs when fully grown. At 6 months ours are typically ~65-75lbs on grass.
