    Enjoy the overhead shots. Rams with structure and personality!

    I first bought 2 Hampshire rams for my B flock based on a TH-cam video of a lady running Llyens in Scotland. They produce good lambs on the Easycare but didn't last long. Changed to Berrichon now and very happy with the results. The only reason I would change is to get a cross that could be marketed as a shearling ewe. Something you might well be able to do with the offspring of that ram.

      Hi Samuel, they will produce great sheep but they are solely bred as a terminal site so the maternal traits may not be that good

    Good video Will we have 2 Suffolk charlois X rams now couple of years they are easier to lamb with our crossbred ewes but the lambs are slower at finishing compared to the texel tbh👍

      It’ll be interesting to see. The big difference with the aberblack to a regular cross is that it is performance recorded. It’s be good to see it side by side Vs a texel

    Will, the ram you chose looks good. With the looks and the numbers you viewed, is there an optimum age range for the tup that you really feel confident in the looks and numbers?
    Or, as more terminal breeding data becomes available, you’re not waiting too long getting a ram later into his peak breeding years?
    Last question, what would the general price range be for such a terminal tup? Not that you’d pay bargain basement price or top end, just a price you’d feel good paying and confident in the anticipated breeding results.
    Thank you!

      Hi Harry. So I’d tend to want to use a tup as a shearling (18 months old) as I feel that’s the best time for them to be at their peak although I have use a lamb before.
      I’d say you can pick up a commercial tup from
      £250-£1500 and I’d be happy with a price somewhere in the middle

    Do you prefer to buy tups this way, as opposed to auction?
    Is it true that the ones that find their way to auction are the ones that haven’t sold this way (so haven’t been chosen by other farmers)?

    • @CowleyHillFarm
      @CowleyHillFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy over the years I have purchased both ways. In terms of quality I don’t think you get much difference but you will get more choice from one breeder on farm

    • @CowleyHillFarm

      No texel at all but it’s a stabilised Suffolk x Charolais

    Looking forward to seeing the ewes dropping their lambs. The ram wasn't as wide in the bum as some as the others to make easier lambing ,another generation will show how this turns out.
