For all my fellow weirdos. Some of this is based on my private experience.
If you have any of these "symptoms" (though this is not the whole spectrum), you might want to take an OCD test online. If it turns out positive and you feel your daily life is negatively affected, try visiting a psychologist. Hopefully this video encourages you to read a bit about the disorder.
Don't be ashamed - more people suffer from OCD than you might think. We're just really good at hiding it.

Sierrah DiCosimo maybe I’m just a perfectionist but sometimes small habits make me question if they are still normal because like many people in the comment section are talking about this time pressure thing but I don’t have this I have more like if something isn’t perfectly aligned or if this one specific door isn’t closed or if I write something some lines just don’t feel right even tho I think they’d look perfectly fine to other people but I have to ‘correct‘ them or I’m getting this really weird feeling but maybe that’s just perfectionism Idk 😐

    • @Nneeras
      @Nneeras 4 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      @@insa8142
Perfectionism is the urge for things to be perfect. OCD is more like doing things to your own accord. Perfectionism is the over all definition of that object being perfect.
For example; drawing a perfect circle, most would think of a clean line and a perfect dimensional shape. That's perfectionism.
Some OCDs close to the perfectionism category would be like; drawing a circle with one indent. It's not "perfect" but it HAS to be that way. In their eyes it's the RIGHT way.

    • @insa8142

Sierrah DiCosimo When I’m writing or drawing it’s like you said in the description of OCD but in every other way I think it’s perfectionism🤷🏽‍♀️ But it’s only writing and drawing so it isn’t that bad I should probably not worry about that too much 🤷🏽‍♀️ Thanks tho for explaining ☺️

I'm so happy, I have my life back. the intrusive thoughts are starting to fade and now I always tell myself :"your family Is not gonna die if you don't close your backpack 5 times" and know I'm starting to believe it. Mine actually developed into urinary frequency , i didn't even noticed that my ocd caused it until I went to the doctor. We did urinalysis , ultrasound , blood tests and all were normal then i realized what if it was because whenever i thought of something bad , i would always force myself to pee because for me it was a way to prevent that bad thought to happen, it came to the point where if i touch something i'd pee , if i think of something bad, i'd pee , for me peeing was a way to relieve myself of these thoughts , but then I wasn't able to really do or enjoy anything because every fricking 3 minutes I would want to pee , it was really frustrating for me ,
Thankfully I've finally stopped it now, and enjoying life ! ,:)

OCD is a mental disorder in which you need to accomplish repetitive tasks to feel satisfied and anxiety-free for the time being. It’s a real problem. Yes and no... Ive had severe OCD for a large portion of my life and it effects my reading alot. If I read and I think I misread, I'll reread the page. Then my brain uses that to,fire a storm of OCD by making me read if again.. Then each sentence out loud.... Then I'll start spelling out the words and reading out puncuation. It got to the point I could not read to help me relax (something I use to do) and in school I had to get extended times on tests cause of how long it take just reading a paragraph. So yes, if you're brain says "do it or else" (not exactly like that but just simplefying) when rereading and u keep repeating that process even though you KNOW you read it correctly.... Then, yes.

The fact you have to touch something until it feels right is so true. Sometimes it never feels right and I cry because the anxiety I get won't go away. It is a such a disgustingly strong lure to having everything perfect. I had OCD so bad, I would constantly wash my hands, it got so bad my hands were so dry they cracked and bled. I got on medicine which helped but I stopped taking it. I hate when kids at my school act like its cute to have OCD. They don't understand its a terrible disorder. The fact I have to turn my fan off and on 20 times and realize my footing wasn't right and do it again. To then realize my hands our now disgusting and I must go wash them and I have to close the door with my foot so my hands won't get dirty and to make sure my bed sheets are perfectly over the bed and the bed it pushed against the wall, to go wash my hands again. Finally become content and go to sleep. It has gotten better after speaking with a therapist. Please don't say you have OCD because its "cute". I commented this but I thought it would be nice on this thread.

Me, 23: Hey, I have intrusive thoughts mostly and my compulsions are steps I go through in my head. I used to seek for reassurance whenever I can. But I cannot shower if I don't listen to a podcast that distracts me and I wash my hair seperately. I cannot fall asleep if my night-light isn't on, my hug-pillow isn't with me, my laptop doesn't play a certain TH-cam video and my radio isn't on playing only a specific station otherwise I will feel deeply unsettled. On days when the internet doesn't work and I cannot watch TH-cam I will stay awake until it works. I used to count until 100 in French and say three prayers before falling asleep. But I was successfully able to let go of them. Last year, my mom had to take my fitbit away as I would constantly check it to be sure that my heart is beating normally. I was probably three times in the ER because of some phantom pain and thought I was literally dying. I cannot sleep in hotels unless I have my pillow shirt with me and I need to wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt and socks to sleep because I would literally die if my body was to touch the freshly made bed. I cannot eat in pensions and have to wash my plate, glass and cutelry two times before finally eating. I actually cannot sleep anywhere that isn't my bed and people don't live at. I cannot sleep during long flights and car drives because I am afraid we might have an accident and I was asleep instead of praying for our safety. I am also afraid of tsunamis whenever I am at the beach so much that I once spent almost every night of our stay on the balcony watching the water for any weird activity. You don't know how it feels to be at the beach and everybody is enjoying themselves but all you want to do is to go home because you are afraid of a tsunami but there never has been a tsunami in the place where you are. And let's not forget the nights you lie awake because you think a plane or helicopter is about to crash in your house or not being able to look people in the eye because you may fall in love with them. And those funny times when your intrusive thoughts claim you to be a murderer and you don't leave your room or house for days.
At times I really just want to take a deep breath and be free of these fears that hide in the back of my mind and make certain situations unbearbale to me. Sometimes, I am so confused as to why I am the way I am. I really just want a peaceful life and spent lots of time with the people I love the most without being afraid of murdering them all or being killed by a freaking helicopter...

    My OCD routine.
    Close the toilet seat twice.
Make sure to use your wrist when turning on the water.
Use back of your hand to push soap out.
Open door with wrist or arm.
Make sure no creases are on your bed.
Clean up all garbage in room.
    Organize stuffed animals twice.
Flip the light switch on 38 times.
At cousins house go to stairs and tap on the bottom step 110 times or 78 times.
Move things to specific spots now because your going to do it sooner or later so how about sooner.
    Make outfit for tomorrow.
Make sure the time is odd when you go to bed.
Listen for the microwave to beep 3 times and then tick once to open.
    Right before fridge closes jump.
Make sure whatever you took out of the fridge is on the counter before fridge closes.
That's not everything, just what I can think of off the top of my head. Not including other fucked up things.

@@mefisth8678 Yea if you really do have it and have it bad you'd probably be less proud of having and more annoyed lol. There are some that may have mild cases however there's a fine line between being organized and having a disorder. Everyone wants to feel included and have the same shortcomings as everyone else nowadays so they can feel "real" or so that their accomplishments stand out even more in their life but you can't go around falsely claiming these hardships it's messed up. Imagine someone falsely claiming they had cancer or something very fatal. I'm not comparing the two that was simply an example of false claims.

When people use ocd in a joking matter and makes it smaller than it really is, it makes me want to scream at everyone who jokes about it asking them do you want to have to think about breathing about the numbers you see everywhere and if they're even or not, do you want to have to organize everything you see in ROYGBIV and then especially with food and candies like m&ms and skittles you have to line them in that color order downwards and how many of each color you line them next to the same color side ways and if you dare see a symbol or a misshaped on you have to also put them in the most perfect to least perfect in every side ways color order, then you start on your right side of your mouth and take first candy that protrudes from the others and go down switching with each candy to the left and then right and then left side of your mouth & chew exactly 8 times until you have perfect rows that match up and you follow the rows down still alternating each side of the mouth per candy.etc

+Amanda Kaufman sorry Amanda, but this is called black comedy and it has nothing to do with trying to belittle the illness. Im not a doctor. I'm an artist, just trying to show what ocd is to as many people as I can. Same thing happened in Monk, Fight Club and many other films. People want to be offended by everything these days. Now this is what drives ME CRAZY.

+CallMeKat no you didn't understand, I'm very sorry if you thought I was saying this video was a joke. It's not I loved this it was beautifully done cinematically and also done very well explaining just a small tid bit of this. I too hate when everyone takes every little thing too serious and gets butt hurt about it. My comment was aimed towards the people who I see all the time who use illnesses and conditions people have as a light hearted joke, when they don't know how bad it can get and how real it Is for the people living with it. I was definitely not saying you were doing this with your video, your doing almost the opposite by educating people in a creative way that almost everyone can understand, and thank you for that. I'm very sorry, truly sorry.

+CallMeKat it's perfectly fine, it wasn't your fault I'm an artist as well but more fine arts instead of cinematography so I understand that everything you create whether a painting or a video like this for example, is our baby and we're gonna protect it. I also didn't have anymore words to write with for the initial comment to describe it better and not make it seem like it's aimed towards you, I am still sorry, I don't like upsetting people and the last thing I wanted to do was upset you. Thank you for making this and all the videos you have made in general I've watched them a lot and love them all :)

I have OCD and perfectionism both.... I wash my hands for more then 10 minutes every time and bath for more than half hour. I measure every of my foot steps and I freakout when stepping on lines. I recheck things more often like 5 to 10 times. I want everything to be aligned according to me. I have repetitive thoughts and I cant stop them coming. And many many more things and I'll die if I skip anything.
OCD sucks and perfectionism makes it worst.

-want to do my job, compulsive thinking comes...
-watch youtube, repeating video every minutes...
-sleep : often leave my legs hanging because I'm afraid of dirt on my legs, and I'm too tired to wash my leg because just doing that I need like 20 minutes and full of anxiousnesb, if it failed, I have to take a bath.. wake up every morning with pain in my legs..
    -finish bath for 1-2 hours,
    -afraid of going to pee,
    -cant concentrate to learn
-already prepared for my online class.. but I already exhausted even before start
but it didnt no matter how far I prepared, because 5 minutes before class, ocd comes greater...
    -So, finally Im late, again...
and people tell me how not serious I'am, and not prepared I'm...
I dont blame anyone, but I want them to stop to judge that everybody is in normal condition as them and they talk like they can do better if they in my position.. but they dont know my every effort, when Im exhausted as hell but Im still think of others and my responsibility... they dont know that... but I can understand, they maybe never experienced it themself, so its fine if they dont understand me... but still, sometimes I want them to know, even tho it didnt matter to me anymore....that this ocd is the one who force me not to being myself..
I want them to know.. that this is not myself... this is not me...
    It's still hurt,

I got OCD too, but my obsessive thoughts are constantly about the feeling of being stuck in my thoughts, as if they were a room without doors. And there is my tic disorder. And compulsions that make me do certain gestures, I had a hard time trying not to hurt myself, not because I wanted the pain, but because I thought of doing so.
As a person concerned I can tell that psychotherapy helps! I thought I had to die, but I didn't. No matter how much you are affected by the disorder, you can make it better!!

I used to have OCD. Trust me it's extremely hard to get those disturbing thoughts outta ur head. It'll never let u to live in the moment. The thoughts are never-ending and it's gets worse the more u listen to it and obey it. I might seem pretty normal on the outside but there's a war going on inside of my head. Watching this video reminds of those hard days. I didnt know why I was having such thoughts. Noone would understand nor be able to help me. I wondered why I was different and why can't think normally and live carefree like others. Years later I realised that it was OCD and a lot of people used to suffer the same. I almost thought I'd lose myself but somehow I survived. But I still haven't recovered fully. I still have those thoughts but most of the times I choose not to pay attention to it.
