Shipping more cattle & chasing strays

- We start off our morning getting my dad and uncle’s herd sorted and ship a variety of their cattle to auction. Then, we get a phone call that every farmer or rancher dreads: Cows are out! We spend the rest of the day searching for the strays and patching fence. Thanks for watching, eat beef, and God bless!

Yeah, I really need to put my trail cameras out and use that to track down those strays
Cool thanks 😊
Thank you!
so wonderful beautiful video Bobby i love it so much to see so nice
Thank you!
@@HurricaneCreekFarms no problem my best friend how are you?
It sure sounds like it was extremely wet where you were working the cows.
Yeah, we’ve had a bit of rain lately and the obvious lack of a roof over those pens has created a quagmire. They’ve yet to make all the repairs since last year’s tornado.
Grass is looking good on the farm. Have you ever raised any meat chickens to process? I did 35 freedom rangers last year and it was the best chicken I have ever eaten. Don't worry I still eat plenty of beef.
I have done meat chickens just once. The scalding, plucking, etc was just more work than I was willing to put in for an inferior protein! In all seriousness, if you have any tips on easy processing methods, I’m all ears and interested in trying it again.
Some nice cattle there . I dont miss chasing cattle & patching fences . esp in the middle of the night.
As a kid , I used to hate hearing my granddads phone ring at night . That meant the cows were out . after getting them back in & patching the fence by the light of a night lite coonhunting light. It made for a long school day that next morning .
Where is the nearest Sale barn now ? Near Alamo or Jackson ?
Years ago My granddad used to go to South Memphis Stock yards near Presidents island. or the Sale Barn at Collierville .
Mack
Yeah, my dad and uncle used south Memphis back in the day. Somerville still has a sale barn, but it is pretty limited in terms of numbers they sell. Trenton has a growing barn with new ownership that is going better. We sent this group to Dickson as they have the biggest sale around. Savannah is a little closer and they have a good sale, too. Dickson is nice because they sell on Monday, so we can ship them there on Sunday, even if it is a bit farther
@@HurricaneCreekFarms My Dads side of the family is from Millington & T county both .
My great granddad settled in Lucy , his brother on the Tipton side.
Millington got too expensive & too crowded for me .
I had to move across the county line. Love it up here In Munford . I always have.
A lot how Lucy used to be . Quiet & Laid back just how I like it . I had forgotton about the sale barn at Somerville. Sounds like Trenton & Dickson are the sale barns to go to now .

Can u give us a walk through of your dad's corral system
what is the feed you feeding the bulls? 60 - 40 pellet?
It’s a textured mix from a local feed mill. Corn gluten pellets, cotton seed meal, etc
😊
What are all of the containers behind you in this video ?
Seed bulk boxes. That’s how they get most of their seed delivered. Their operation has shifted to primarily row crops (corn, soybeans) over the last decade or so.
Let this one out. 😅 yall are lucky none of us western Oklahoma cowboys are not there. 😅
Jc, jarold, Jason, lane, and I would've been replying with. Really? Really really really
Edit; it's honestly a inside joke with us. I'm not picking on yall etc.
When will you get the results of your bread heifers?
We got them yesterday. 6 of the 8 we expected to be bred are bred. They younger ones are all open (which is really what we wanted)
@@HurricaneCreekFarms ok cool
When you going start on hay
Won’t be long. We’ll have some ready in just a couple of weeks, but it’ll come down to finding a window of dry weather to allow us to get it done.
Bobby Lee, where are the 30 head of cattle going?
Dickson regional livestock center in Dickson, TN
Bobby Lee you need to hire somebody for about a week just to come fix your fences
Yeah, and I’ve considered that. Problem is getting someone to do it. The good crews are covered up with new install jobs (mostly residential or commercial fencing that probably pays a lot better)
You use anybody to catch cows for you?
I have not. My dad has used some guys in the past. Fortunately, I have not needed to.
