Jesus i hope as well! Blood omen was the first ps1 game I've ever played and was sucked into the story easily. If they do remake it, it'll be nice to see it in an 3d environment like the soul reaver version

I remember that Game fondly, since it ripped off Devil May Cry heavily BUT it turned out to be so darn good, I didn't care how inspired it was, lol. Also did plenty of good in it's own right 😃
I'll hold up replaying it since it could be the next remaster but I just recall the Graphics were solid and the combo's were just Beautiful!! Everything connected perfectly and you could really mess the enemy up, lol.
Defiance was done for a new generation, and in PC actually supports controller, different resolutions and some graphic options. It looks great, and don't think it needs a remastered as soul reaver did.
Is no one else kind of turned off by the color? The exposure or the lack of grittyness or something slightly bothers me. It doesn't look as decayed as it should maybe. Idk

A couple of things here that should help 🙂 Firstly, I always edit my footage to bring out the colours and make things brighter. it's just a more pleasing experience, so the actual Game is a tad darker., 2ndly, thankfully in modern times we get a lot of Game options and I'm sure there will be sliders to control the darkness and intensity. Fingers crossed that is the case because yes, this is a dark series and the grit is needed!
Bundling Soul Reaver 1 and 2 together was a good idea because these 2 games play really well into one another and the cliffhanger at the end of Soul Reaver 2 will get people begging for more.
Plus it makes the recommendation a no brainer. A great price, offering and it's BOTH Games? Let's be hype people up and reward them as we vote with our wallets. I hope the series can continue, just like the Crash Trilogy resulted in all these great PS1 come backs and even a brand new forth entry into the series!! Hopefully, if this is a big enough success we can get a completely new entry into the series 😃
Also, while soul reaver 1 is a great gem, soul reaver 2 is quite inferior, I think it would kill the franchise again if it released as a stand alone remaster

I'm 41 yrs old now and this game was a huge part of my teenage years. Could've even count how many times I drew raziel while sitting in class and the countless hours I spent exploring this series. I hope it gets the support it deserves and it inspires a new installment to this amazing series. 🍻
I'm 41 as well, same thing! My drawings of the Soul Reaver and clan symbols were all over my notebooks. Been waiting for over 20 years for something, anything... FINALLY something is happening, my favorite game and narrative ever is getting proper attention!
39 here, the first game that made me pass a night without sleeping, high school was really funny that day. I used the Raziel and Kain clan emblems later in college for a programming course homework, a game of lines (or whatever it is called in English where you reclaim every square you can close in a dots matrix). This game is a HUGE influence in my stories taste to this day.
It is on the brighter side and I made it even brighter while editing, lol. Dark footage on TH-cam videos where most people watch on their phones does not make a great experience since you can't make out the details. Unedited its still rather bright and so I hope we can address that in the options. I'm sure a darkness and contrast slider will exist, letting us dim the lights to suit our tastes 😎

@einharjar Yeah that's fair enough. I'm not concerned though, Games come with so many options and visual tweaks these days. I just can't imagine getting this Game and not having the option to tweak the brightness and all that to my liking
It’s only a couple of months away. They’re not changing the art style now. You’ll be able to get steam mods to fix it at least because it is way too saturated.
I think for a Remaster it's looking really good but I also understand where you are coming from. I used to imagine what Soul Reaver would look like with state of the art graphics. 🙂👀 That said, If this is successful enough, the series as a whole could return and maybe an official new entry with modern visuals could happen!

I have yet to come across another game that matches the story, voice acting and music. The atmospheres, exploration, puzzles and upgrades through progression. It was extremely well made, especially at the time. It laid the foundation of many game mechanics I have only seen after. The graphical upgrade here is surprisingly underwhelming though, considering it's been 25 years since the initial release. I'd thought they'd try to match the graphics with the rest of the absolute exquisitely high quality features the game is so well known and loved for. That's all fine, I suppose. It at least affords access to the newer generations of gamers and those who yearn to play again after all these years.
im with you on being kind of disappointed in the graphics upgrade. They could have done what got done to Demon souls. The PS5 version is Amazing yet plays and is almost identical to the original yet graphically it was and still is amazing looking. It was a PS5 launch title for crying out loud lol. with Unreal 5 it would probably not been too difficult however if this is extremely successful maybe it will get crystal dynamics off their butts and make a legitimate new game for us!!! this is one of my all time favorite games ever. it was incredible and so well done. i mean i have already preordered it. its kind of annoying though that instead of taking ps2 games to ps5 level they didnt even bother with taking it to PS4 level. it looks way better than the original but i would say its barely PS3 tier honestly.
I couldn’t be happier with this, this is my favourite game franchise of all time. I love that we’re getting both games, I love the new details, I love the little details like the shadows, I love the map, and I also especially love that you can switch between original and remaster because I’ve been wishing for years that they would just re release the originals so I can play them again since my originals copies are very glitchy now so the fact that we’re getting both the original to play again AND a remaster is amazing to me. My only tiny complaint is that the colours look a little too… bright? Like too clean and polished. The originals had such a gritty, dirty look that suited the overall aura of the game and story that I wish they had kept. That being said through hopefully it won’t be too bothersome once the game is out. It might just be a little jarring now because im not use to it looking like that. All in all though im so happy about this, this is THE game for me, has been my whole life. So psyched!
So glad your excited and I actually agree with everything you have said. The colours do make things appear a bit too bright and clean, although I made things worse by improving colour and brightness for TH-cam, lol. They have done some adjustments since this trailer actually, when they released the 2nd Trailer (I only covered that as well). Hopefully the end result is once again even darker or we simply have the options to make the adjustments ourselves, which is a nice way to give power to us.

I made things a bit brighter while editing, so it's easier to see what is going on as most watch on their phones. Actual Game is a bit darker and all we really need is a brightness slider and some contrast control and we can fix that issue 😃

Which one said that iam pretty sure at least no one from the big ones said that. If you day the Name iam hyped to check him out. Given there is do much cut content it would be great for sure. The whole different soul reaver forms come to mind which were only acessable thgough cheats back then.
I doubt that the new missions will be the cut content becouse that will completely change the game. For instance Turel who is in Defiance was originaly ment to be in SR1 etc. Maybe there will be some more powers and power ups to find but thats it. But i really hope this remaster will sell well so they could put more effort into remastering Defiance.
@blackwidow7804 they could still have Turel as intended in the cut content, just implement a small cut scene where a portal takes him to the past after the boss fight. I'd love the game even more if it had all the brothers as bosses, it would feel more complete.
No I broke my PS1 because parasite eve pissed me off so much 😅😅 not gonna lie I would definitely still give it a chance just because I remember how badly that game pissed me off but it was actually pretty fun

3:39 They should have retained Melchiah's red eyes I remember when I first encounter this boss back when I was just in 4th grade it was really unsettling.
I'm happy about the remaster but I agree with the sentiment that it looks a bit too... cartoony? The jagged angles and darkness of the original graphics made it feel really gritty and grimy, but with the smoothing and the low contrast it doesn't look quiiiite right. Like Melkiah's model always appeared like it should be more fleshy, wet, and bloody than it turned out. Raziel's model looks almost perfect though, I just wish it was a little "dirtier", if that makes sense. But again, maybe I'm just wanting a remake and for a remaster, I'm really happy to just have this at all. It meant a lot to me and if I ever have kids, this is something I will show them (when they're old enough, obviously!)
Most people would easily agree with you and I am one of them. While I love what I see, it is as bit too much on the bright side. Thankfully, almost every single Game launchers with a Brightness Slider we can all put to good use and maybe there will be even more options to play around with 😃 Yeah, need to be a certain age before you should start sucking Souls lolo
@@GamingMyWholeLife To be fair, I started yearly xD I played this game when I was like 8 years old, and I remember being chill during exploring and the puzzles, but I would always call my dad to help me with the bosses because I got too nervous. I even remember one time we found Soul Reaver 2 for sale and we didn't have a PS2 yet at the time, but he must have seen the way I looked at the cover and immediately bought the game and said we'd keep it ready for when we got a PS2. It took a while, but it was the first game I played on the PS2. Just like Soul Reaver 1 was the first game I truly beat all the way through (it's not a super long game but back then it felt impossibly huge). I remember watching that final cutscene and not really knowing what they were saying (didn't understand english at the time) but I was so intrigued and felt so accomplished. LOVE this game.

I hate to say this but raziel is... too blue?? His body is supposed to look decayed and burned and shyt. He looks cartoonish, not dark enough and too bright. But im all in for it, will 100% make a purchase
I wonder if any of the original developers helped guide or give insight? Maybe this was the vision they wishes to achieve in the first place, since the Graphically better Dreamcast version features a more Blue Raziel? Either way, it is a bit too exposed and hopefully they have more than the Brightness Slider to toggle in the options to get that darker tone happening ^__^
I'd say you're wrong on the colour front. The colour in the enhanced graphics changes. Some points it's bright, others it's a lot more dull. This is inline with what you saw with the other games, it was dependent on whether he was in the spirit realm or the material realm from what I remember. I distinctly remember seeing him very vivid blue in some scenes in Defiance.
that really isnt necessary in my opinion. i replayed 3 and played 1 and 2 for the first time after playing ragnarok and they still look pretty dang good in my opinion.
The most exciting thing about this remaster are the modding possibilities. The original versions of both games were released in an era when modding wasn't a big thing, and while there are some mods in existence the games are too old to get much interest from the modding community, but these days I can imagine people adding entirely new locations to Nosgoth in SR1 and the ability to freely travel forth and back in time in SR2, expanding the games lifetime and improving the experience even more than Crystal Dynamics has already done, so many possibilities.
If I see one more out of context the coin has landed on its edge I'm gonna lose it. Super glad the game is getting attention but the remake graphics look like warcraft... does not capture the artistic vision of the original at all

As much as I appreciate a remaster and will buy it anyway, I dont agree that it looks better. It has better models and textures, but the tone is completely wrong. One of main standouts for the game was its atmosphere, it was dark and gritty. The low res textures are by today standards crappy, but preserve the dark tone. The new visuals look almost cartoonish, everything is clean, bright and environment looks like polished marble. Even the first comparison in the video of Raziel clearly shows how tonally wrong the character is. I understand they went for the cg renders visuals, but they should have focused on the original tone and atmosphere. Raziel now looks like a plastic toy and the whole dark atmosphere is almost gone. If you look past the added details original Raziel looks much more in line with the gothic, dark setting. While new Raziel, I am not even sure. Anyways I will buy the game to support it, I have waited so long for this, but I am a bit disappointed.
Totally agree about the tone. The dark grit plays a big part in this series. I do feel that we will have enough in game options to address this though. graphic options have come a long way and even a brightness slider would do wonders and I'm sure there will be some options beyond that.

My exact sentiments. Hard to gush about characters casting proper shadows on the ground when all the rest is so weirdly overblown and overlit. I will still keep a little hope that the lighting may be improved/fixed for release while keeping my expectations in check. Nonetheless, I happily support the project and will also buy it to put my money where my mouth is (and benefit from the other improvements), but I am a bit disappointed and will probably keep the older graphics while playing.
@MrBurnss1 I totally get gut reactions. Every time I have imagined the return of Soul Reaver it has looked 10X better than what we are getting. I wanted the Crash Trilogy AAA graphics and everything! 😃 I am feeling optimistic though with the future and see this is a test of interest. I hope they give options to correct the saturation and all that but I also think we may get even a new entry to the series if this does well. @@GamingMyWholeLife Agreed, and also consider that the fanbase for the Legacy of Kain series are very comitted, loyal and supportive, myself included. We have been holding out for two decades. Personally I have shown the original SR1 intro video to hundreds of people as time went by and it never failed to impress. Ideally this remaster would be a massive success, showing current gamers and studios what games are supposed to be. Hopefully, any new games in the franchise would get the the high production quality it deserves while still honouring the established lore and canon.

With so many big AAA Studios messing up and almost everyone else doing well, I think they are looking and will be forced to learn if they want to survive, lol. I would have loved a cutting edge version of this Game and it would have truly blown us all away. I'm happy with what we have, since we could have just gotten a port with no improvements whatsoever and who knows? After the success of Crash Trilogy, we got an official forth entry. I think that could easily happen here as well and of course, that would result in the use of modern Graphics and my goodness.... that would be truly spectacular!

the only thing i am disappointed in is the soul reaver, legacy of kain defiance really improved the soul reaver on Raziel to have a handle and skull like the original blade , shame that wasn't added in
The way I see all Remasters and it makes me even more excited, is the potential of future entries. This all started with the success of the Crash Trilogy, that did so well that an official 4th entry came out. So if this does super well, I see no reason why I modern Soul reaver Game can't happen after and naturally come with welcome adjustments, like what you mentioned 😎

You just made my day!!!! Soul Reaver 2 was pivotal in my life. I believe it's what pushed me to git gud at english. I played this game when I was 10 and learned a LOT from watching the cutscenes on repeat and reading the dark chronicle (what a banger of a feature on a game like that!) over and over. 20 years later I could still recite the entirety of the opening cinematic without missing a beat. This is a sign that they are testing the waters and campaining to launch another game or a full remake. I wouldn't want Raziel to come back without Michael Bell though. His voice was everything. No they cant. If they do there will be no SR2 becouse original story in SR1 is that you beat all your brothers including Turel who is only in Defiance and you also beat Kain. There is no time travel, no coin on its edge etc, Kain was just jealyous and bad guy.
@@blackwidow7804 They can add the content without trying to fit it into the story. An extras mode letting you explore the cut content would be interesting. Obviously the correct move would be to give us a version where Raziel finishes things with Kain, alongside the original story experience.
I've been waiting 20+ years for this. I actually cried(41 years old) when this was revealed. And what people don't seem to realize, this is only a remaster. It isn't a remake. They were able to make the game look this good with only a remaster. Imagine what it will look like if they do a remake(I kinda don't want them to bc I don't want to lose the original voice cast). These two games will be taking up all my gaming time for the next several months(years of consistent playing).
Wow, this Game series must mean a whole lot to you! Well glad I could play a part in the excitement and hopefully you are even more excited now. Indeed, I think this is a nice effort, improving Graphics, Gameplay features and even cut content. This could be the start of a full come back for the series. Actually footage is a bit darker, I brighten things up for the sake of YT and actually being able to see things. All we need is a brightness slider and we can fix that 😉 Actual Game is very dark in tone if you have not played before

it is too bright in the trailer, agreed. That said, I'm sure simply tweaking some things in the options menu will likely get this Game to look exactly how we want and the vastly improved character models will really shine once everything is dark around them 😃
I made the footage brighter because its hard to look at details on a mobile phone with darkness plus compression. That said, it is still brighter than the original. Can easily be resolved with a brightness slider in the options and thats very common in Games these days

@@diegosotomiranda4107 I hear you, it's a pretty low res statue after all 😂 but what I'm reffering to is the figure's proportions. Lower body/thighs, waist, chest and neck and lastly the face. Just seems less feminine. It's subtle to the untrained eye, yes. But kind of intriguing why it would be so important for the remaster to change it so drastically, nothing to worry about, I'm sure..
Day/night cycle was cut due to time. Several major cuts include elemental reaver forges, a final level in the cathedral, the Turel boss fight, and Kain was meant to die. Many of these elements were used in later games.
Holy mother of brightness! The models themselves look good but everything is way too bright and poppy. Melciah and Zephon look like machines as opposed to organic disgusting flesh creatures.
I'm hoping we can visit Turel's territory and maybe see him vanish when he is summoned to the past. Also the other elemental reavers in part one. As to the day night cycle, that can easily be used to make the vampire enemies stronger and more challenging during the night cycles. I also wonder if new cinematic scenes have been added. I'm super excited by the possibilities.
Ooo I like your theory with the day and night cycle, totally makes sense!! The Devs have teased that there are also some new surprises in store but they don't want to spoil anything more. I'm cool with that, it's rare we get surprised these days 🙂
@GamingMyWholeLife well, in the original game, Kain was stronger and dealt more damage during nighttime and was weaker during the day, and he lost health faster. That's my logic anyway. I can only imagine how horrifying Zephon will look!
@SolarinDay as far as I know, for the "lost levels" all of the voice actors recorded their dialogue so the material to reconstruct the cut scenes is all there.
@@GamingMyWholeLife They could add combat like in Defiance. Some mechanics can be better we won't back to times PS1. In Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance every fight with humans ends very bloody. And these games never where so colorfull. That was Dark Grim series. Looks lazy for me and Im sceptictic.
Great job holding onto all those copies!! Over the years many of my Games have vanished but I'm managed to keep some of them. Every once in a while I play one and do a retrospective on it. That's why I had original footage for this comparison 😃
Holy sheep a Tenchu remaster would be amazing! That game got me stuck back then! It was a "simple" game in its graphics and structure, but the ninja vibe and ambiance was AWESOME!

If people thought I was excited for Soul Reaver (which I am), they have no idea how much I will loose it for Tenchu to receive this same treatment 😃😍 I have reviewed Tenchu 1, 2 and 3 on this channel and they ALL hold up in their own ways!

The original game had full analog joystick support and camera controls, and you can absolutely look up. I still have my physical copies. That's not to say I don't hope the remaster camera is much better.
It would be nuts if Defiance was being saved for a full-on remake. These look pretty damn close to it themselves. That's a jump from PS1 to PS3 era graphics.
Defiance would have been very welcome but I understand it may have to wait until next time. I feel this is them testers the waters before committing further 🙂
I already pre-ordered the two games. Legacy of Kain Defiance was my LoK game, and I immediately fell in love with the writing, voice acting, and world building. I am finally going to be able to experience Soul Reaver 1 and 2 as an exclusive console gamer.

Defiance is an excellent Game but pretty different from the first 2 entries, so it will be interesting for you to play them finally 😃 I never got to play the 2nd Game, so I look forward to finally finding out what happens with the story and I love the enhancements they are adding to these versions of the Game ❤
I was literally stunned that the only reason I found out this was in the works is I was checking out steams Halloween sale, I am legitimately shocked that they arent trying to gouge us like some other remakes that have come out as welll

But on my defense, Blood Omen was the first, so this way it feels as if they did a remaster of just Tomb Raider 2 and 3, skipping the first one. On THEIR defense though, Blood Omen will soon be released as PS1 classic on PS5, so if you skipped that, you most definitely NEED to check that out!!

Toggle feature reminds me of the halo remaster , it was such a blast switching from original to remaster just to see the difference , I hope this will be just as smooth

I can't wait for this. One of my favorite games of all time. I wonder about the depth of field though. Anyone who played the original knows that it was rather short, due to the restraints of technology at the time. SR2 is a great game also although it kind of lacks the whole "dark theme" and I remember it being a lot more colorful overall. I also heard that they're including extra "levels" and content that were previously cut. Perhaps to be played separately to not conflict with the original game and story.
Yeah additional content is getting added, can confirm that 🙂 Depth of field is a wish list item of mine, has not been confirmed and likely not even there (hopefully photo mode is the exception). Definitely checking this out. Only played SR2 and loved it. Curious what story elements missed in SR1. Blood Omen next? Kain is by far my favorite complicated villain / antihero. I also loved Blood Omen 2.

I love the radio silence on this and the surprise drop. I see this as a straight up test by CD. "Is the response we got from the questionnaire a fluke or is there really that much passion around this game still?" I'm definitely getting this and I'm going to play the absolute heck out of it.
I also see this as a test and it makes sense. Over inflated budgets are not popular at he moment and I would hate for a Gorgeous looking Soul Reaver Game that for some reason did not sell well and killed the series. This way, they can spark that interest up again. Get even new players on board and have more of a fan base waiting to convince investors it's worth the investment 😃 It really did come out of no where. Well played Devs!
I'm honestly praying that if the remasters do well and sell well enough they will realize they should make new Soul Reaver/ Legacy of Kain games, there's just been a void in my life that only those games can fill.
I think they are testing the waters with this 🌊 and just like how the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy resulted in Crash 4, hopefully the same thing happens again here!!😃
Big fan of this approach to PS1 remasters with Soul Reaver, Tomb Raider and Croc where they make the graphics look like the pre rendered CG of the era. It's more charming than making them look like modern games.
the one thing i don't like about melchiah's design is that he is covered in skulls instead of the ...fleshy...faces like the original, they looked much more gruesome as melchiah was just a mass of corpses

Defiance was done for a new generation, and in PC actually supports controller, different resolutions and some graphic options. It looks great, and don't think it needs a remastered as soul reaver did.

A couple of things here that should help 🙂
Firstly, I always edit my footage to bring out the colours and make things brighter. it's just a more pleasing experience, so the actual Game is a tad darker.,
2ndly, thankfully in modern times we get a lot of Game options and I'm sure there will be sliders to control the darkness and intensity. Fingers crossed that is the case because yes, this is a dark series and the grit is needed!
Bundling Soul Reaver 1 and 2 together was a good idea because these 2 games play really well into one another and the cliffhanger at the end of Soul Reaver 2 will get people begging for more.
Plus it makes the recommendation a no brainer. A great price, offering and it's BOTH Games?
Let's be hype people up and reward them as we vote with our wallets.
I hope the series can continue, just like the Crash Trilogy resulted in all these great PS1 come backs and even a brand new forth entry into the series!! Hopefully, if this is a big enough success we can get a completely new entry into the series 😃
Also, while soul reaver 1 is a great gem, soul reaver 2 is quite inferior, I think it would kill the franchise again if it released as a stand alone remaster

I'm 41 yrs old now and this game was a huge part of my teenage years. Could've even count how many times I drew raziel while sitting in class and the countless hours I spent exploring this series. I hope it gets the support it deserves and it inspires a new installment to this amazing series. 🍻

39 here, the first game that made me pass a night without sleeping, high school was really funny that day. I used the Raziel and Kain clan emblems later in college for a programming course homework, a game of lines (or whatever it is called in English where you reclaim every square you can close in a dots matrix). This game is a HUGE influence in my stories taste to this day.
I Hope they will tone down light it's too bright, it look cartoonish.
It is on the brighter side and I made it even brighter while editing, lol.
Dark footage on TH-cam videos where most people watch on their phones does not make a great experience since you can't make out the details.
Unedited its still rather bright and so I hope we can address that in the options. I'm sure a darkness and contrast slider will exist, letting us dim the lights to suit our tastes 😎

It’s only a couple of months away. They’re not changing the art style now. You’ll be able to get steam mods to fix it at least because it is way too saturated.

I have yet to come across another game that matches the story, voice acting and music. The atmospheres, exploration, puzzles and upgrades through progression. It was extremely well made, especially at the time. It laid the foundation of many game mechanics I have only seen after.
The graphical upgrade here is surprisingly underwhelming though, considering it's been 25 years since the initial release. I'd thought they'd try to match the graphics with the rest of the absolute exquisitely high quality features the game is so well known and loved for.
That's all fine, I suppose. It at least affords access to the newer generations of gamers and those who yearn to play again after all these years.
im with you on being kind of disappointed in the graphics upgrade. They could have done what got done to Demon souls. The PS5 version is Amazing yet plays and is almost identical to the original yet graphically it was and still is amazing looking. It was a PS5 launch title for crying out loud lol. with Unreal 5 it would probably not been too difficult however if this is extremely successful maybe it will get crystal dynamics off their butts and make a legitimate new game for us!!! this is one of my all time favorite games ever. it was incredible and so well done. i mean i have already preordered it. its kind of annoying though that instead of taking ps2 games to ps5 level they didnt even bother with taking it to PS4 level. it looks way better than the original but i would say its barely PS3 tier honestly.
I couldn’t be happier with this, this is my favourite game franchise of all time. I love that we’re getting both games, I love the new details, I love the little details like the shadows, I love the map, and I also especially love that you can switch between original and remaster because I’ve been wishing for years that they would just re release the originals so I can play them again since my originals copies are very glitchy now so the fact that we’re getting both the original to play again AND a remaster is amazing to me.
My only tiny complaint is that the colours look a little too… bright? Like too clean and polished. The originals had such a gritty, dirty look that suited the overall aura of the game and story that I wish they had kept. That being said through hopefully it won’t be too bothersome once the game is out. It might just be a little jarring now because im not use to it looking like that. All in all though im so happy about this, this is THE game for me, has been my whole life. So psyched!

They have done some adjustments since this trailer actually, when they released the 2nd Trailer (I only covered that as well).
Hopefully the end result is once again even darker or we simply have the options to make the adjustments ourselves, which is a nice way to give power to us.

I made things a bit brighter while editing, so it's easier to see what is going on as most watch on their phones. Actual Game is a bit darker and all we really need is a brightness slider and some contrast control and we can fix that issue 😃
A German Game journalist also Said that there will be new MISSIONS!!! Imagine If they used all the Cut content. Maybe you get two Versions of Soul Reaver 1, the retail Version and the Beta Version. This would be awesome! This Info came from the biggest Game Magazine in Germany, so its usually a reliable source

Given there is do much cut content it would be great for sure. The whole different soul reaver forms come to mind which were only acessable thgough cheats back then.
I doubt that the new missions will be the cut content becouse that will completely change the game. For instance Turel who is in Defiance was originaly ment to be in SR1 etc. Maybe there will be some more powers and power ups to find but thats it. But i really hope this remaster will sell well so they could put more effort into remastering Defiance.
@blackwidow7804 they could still have Turel as intended in the cut content, just implement a small cut scene where a portal takes him to the past after the boss fight. I'd love the game even more if it had all the brothers as bosses, it would feel more complete.

I'm happy about the remaster but I agree with the sentiment that it looks a bit too... cartoony? The jagged angles and darkness of the original graphics made it feel really gritty and grimy, but with the smoothing and the low contrast it doesn't look quiiiite right. Like Melkiah's model always appeared like it should be more fleshy, wet, and bloody than it turned out. Raziel's model looks almost perfect though, I just wish it was a little "dirtier", if that makes sense. But again, maybe I'm just wanting a remake and for a remaster, I'm really happy to just have this at all. It meant a lot to me and if I ever have kids, this is something I will show them (when they're old enough, obviously!)

While I love what I see, it is as bit too much on the bright side. Thankfully, almost every single Game launchers with a Brightness Slider we can all put to good use and maybe there will be even more options to play around with 😃

@@GamingMyWholeLife To be fair, I started yearly xD I played this game when I was like 8 years old, and I remember being chill during exploring and the puzzles, but I would always call my dad to help me with the bosses because I got too nervous. I even remember one time we found Soul Reaver 2 for sale and we didn't have a PS2 yet at the time, but he must have seen the way I looked at the cover and immediately bought the game and said we'd keep it ready for when we got a PS2. It took a while, but it was the first game I played on the PS2. Just like Soul Reaver 1 was the first game I truly beat all the way through (it's not a super long game but back then it felt impossibly huge). I remember watching that final cutscene and not really knowing what they were saying (didn't understand english at the time) but I was so intrigued and felt so accomplished. LOVE this game.

Why the graphics looks so cartoonish, like Fortnite or any Telltale Games?, it don't fit to the game's aura! Looks strange to me!
It is a bit brighter than the original but I also made it brighter for display purposes.

I hate to say this but raziel is... too blue?? His body is supposed to look decayed and burned and shyt. He looks cartoonish, not dark enough and too bright. But im all in for it, will 100% make a purchase
I wonder if any of the original developers helped guide or give insight? Maybe this was the vision they wishes to achieve in the first place, since the Graphically better Dreamcast version features a more Blue Raziel?

I'd say you're wrong on the colour front. The colour in the enhanced graphics changes. Some points it's bright, others it's a lot more dull. This is inline with what you saw with the other games, it was dependent on whether he was in the spirit realm or the material realm from what I remember.
I distinctly remember seeing him very vivid blue in some scenes in Defiance.
Ah my bad, it was the other way round. Even in LoK: Soul Reaver 2, he was a dull grey-ish colour in the spirit realm, but bright in the material one.

that really isnt necessary in my opinion. i replayed 3 and played 1 and 2 for the first time after playing ragnarok and they still look pretty dang good in my opinion.
The most exciting thing about this remaster are the modding possibilities. The original versions of both games were released in an era when modding wasn't a big thing, and while there are some mods in existence the games are too old to get much interest from the modding community, but these days I can imagine people adding entirely new locations to Nosgoth in SR1 and the ability to freely travel forth and back in time in SR2, expanding the games lifetime and improving the experience even more than Crystal Dynamics has already done, so many possibilities.
It's very true!! Also some over the top ray traced mod would be pretty Boss 😎
If I see one more out of context the coin has landed on its edge I'm gonna lose it. Super glad the game is getting attention but the remake graphics look like warcraft... does not capture the artistic vision of the original at all

As much as I appreciate a remaster and will buy it anyway, I dont agree that it looks better. It has better models and textures, but the tone is completely wrong. One of main standouts for the game was its atmosphere, it was dark and gritty. The low res textures are by today standards crappy, but preserve the dark tone. The new visuals look almost cartoonish, everything is clean, bright and environment looks like polished marble. Even the first comparison in the video of Raziel clearly shows how tonally wrong the character is. I understand they went for the cg renders visuals, but they should have focused on the original tone and atmosphere. Raziel now looks like a plastic toy and the whole dark atmosphere is almost gone. If you look past the added details original Raziel looks much more in line with the gothic, dark setting. While new Raziel, I am not even sure. Anyways I will buy the game to support it, I have waited so long for this, but I am a bit disappointed.
Totally agree about the tone. The dark grit plays a big part in this series.
I do feel that we will have enough in game options to address this though.
graphic options have come a long way and even a brightness slider would do wonders and I'm sure there will be some options beyond that.

My exact sentiments. Hard to gush about characters casting proper shadows on the ground when all the rest is so weirdly overblown and overlit. I will still keep a little hope that the lighting may be improved/fixed for release while keeping my expectations in check. Nonetheless, I happily support the project and will also buy it to put my money where my mouth is (and benefit from the other improvements), but I am a bit disappointed and will probably keep the older graphics while playing.
@MrBurnss1 I totally get gut reactions. Every time I have imagined the return of Soul Reaver it has looked 10X better than what we are getting. I wanted the Crash Trilogy AAA graphics and everything! 😃
I am feeling optimistic though with the future and see this is a test of interest. I hope they give options to correct the saturation and all that but I also think we may get even a new entry to the series if this does well. Crash got an official 4th entry after the success after all 🙂🎩

@@GamingMyWholeLife Agreed, and also consider that the fanbase for the Legacy of Kain series are very comitted, loyal and supportive, myself included. We have been holding out for two decades. Personally I have shown the original SR1 intro video to hundreds of people as time went by and it never failed to impress.
Ideally this remaster would be a massive success, showing current gamers and studios what games are supposed to be. Hopefully, any new games in the franchise would get the the high production quality it deserves while still honouring the established lore and canon.

My only complaint Is the wraithblade itself, It looks like It's the same exact effects from the old games.
I would have loved a cutting edge version of this Game and it would have truly blown us all away. I'm happy with what we have, since we could have just gotten a port with no improvements whatsoever and who knows? After the success of Crash Trilogy, we got an official forth entry. I think that could easily happen here as well and of course, that would result in the use of modern Graphics and my goodness.... that would be truly spectacular!

The way I see all Remasters and it makes me even more excited, is the potential of future entries. This all started with the success of the Crash Trilogy, that did so well that an official 4th entry came out. So if this does super well, I see no reason why I modern Soul reaver Game can't happen after and naturally come with welcome adjustments, like what you mentioned 😎

I loved the legacy of Kain series when I was a young boi, but no one has really talked about it much for over a decade which always saddened me. So to see renewed interest in it with the announcement of the remaster warms my heart. Take my subscription.

Soul Reaver 2 was pivotal in my life. I believe it's what pushed me to git gud at english. I played this game when I was 10 and learned a LOT from watching the cutscenes on repeat and reading the dark chronicle (what a banger of a feature on a game like that!) over and over.
20 years later I could still recite the entirety of the opening cinematic without missing a beat.
This is a sign that they are testing the waters and campaining to launch another game or a full remake.
I wouldn't want Raziel to come back without Michael Bell though. His voice was everything.

No they cant. If they do there will be no SR2 becouse original story in SR1 is that you beat all your brothers including Turel who is only in Defiance and you also beat Kain. There is no time travel, no coin on its edge etc, Kain was just jealyous and bad guy.

Obviously the correct move would be to give us a version where Raziel finishes things with Kain, alongside the original story experience.

I've been waiting 20+ years for this. I actually cried(41 years old) when this was revealed.
And what people don't seem to realize, this is only a remaster. It isn't a remake. They were able to make the game look this good with only a remaster. Imagine what it will look like if they do a remake(I kinda don't want them to bc I don't want to lose the original voice cast).
These two games will be taking up all my gaming time for the next several months(years of consistent playing).

it is too bright in the trailer, agreed. That said, I'm sure simply tweaking some things in the options menu will likely get this Game to look exactly how we want and the vastly improved character models will really shine once everything is dark around them 😃

I made the footage brighter because its hard to look at details on a mobile phone with darkness plus compression.
That said, it is still brighter than the original. Can easily be resolved with a brightness slider in the options and thats very common in Games these days

Just seems less feminine. It's subtle to the untrained eye, yes. But kind of intriguing why it would be so important for the remaster to change it so drastically, nothing to worry about, I'm sure..
Day/night cycle was cut due to time. Several major cuts include elemental reaver forges, a final level in the cathedral, the Turel boss fight, and Kain was meant to die. Many of these elements were used in later games.

Holy mother of brightness! The models themselves look good but everything is way too bright and poppy. Melciah and Zephon look like machines as opposed to organic disgusting flesh creatures.
I'm hoping we can visit Turel's territory and maybe see him vanish when he is summoned to the past. Also the other elemental reavers in part one.
As to the day night cycle, that can easily be used to make the vampire enemies stronger and more challenging during the night cycles. I also wonder if new cinematic scenes have been added. I'm super excited by the possibilities.

@GamingMyWholeLife well, in the original game, Kain was stronger and dealt more damage during nighttime and was weaker during the day, and he lost health faster. That's my logic anyway. I can only imagine how horrifying Zephon will look!
@SolarinDay as far as I know, for the "lost levels" all of the voice actors recorded their dialogue so the material to reconstruct the cut scenes is all there.

Holy sheep a Tenchu remaster would be amazing! That game got me stuck back then! It was a "simple" game in its graphics and structure, but the ninja vibe and ambiance was AWESOME!

The original game had full analog joystick support and camera controls, and you can absolutely look up. I still have my physical copies. That's not to say I don't hope the remaster camera is much better.
It would be nuts if Defiance was being saved for a full-on remake. These look pretty damn close to it themselves. That's a jump from PS1 to PS3 era graphics.
Defiance would have been very welcome but I understand it may have to wait until next time. I feel this is them testers the waters before committing further 🙂

I already pre-ordered the two games. Legacy of Kain Defiance was my LoK game, and I immediately fell in love with the writing, voice acting, and world building. I am finally going to be able to experience Soul Reaver 1 and 2 as an exclusive console gamer.

On THEIR defense though, Blood Omen will soon be released as PS1 classic on PS5, so if you skipped that, you most definitely NEED to check that out!!

I can't wait for this. One of my favorite games of all time. I wonder about the depth of field though. Anyone who played the original knows that it was rather short, due to the restraints of technology at the time. SR2 is a great game also although it kind of lacks the whole "dark theme" and I remember it being a lot more colorful overall. I also heard that they're including extra "levels" and content that were previously cut. Perhaps to be played separately to not conflict with the original game and story.

Definitely checking this out. Only played SR2 and loved it. Curious what story elements missed in SR1. Blood Omen next? Kain is by far my favorite complicated villain / antihero. I also loved Blood Omen 2.

I love the radio silence on this and the surprise drop. I see this as a straight up test by CD. "Is the response we got from the questionnaire a fluke or is there really that much passion around this game still?"
I'm definitely getting this and I'm going to play the absolute heck out of it.
I also see this as a test and it makes sense. Over inflated budgets are not popular at he moment and I would hate for a Gorgeous looking Soul Reaver Game that for some reason did not sell well and killed the series. This way, they can spark that interest up again. Get even new players on board and have more of a fan base waiting to convince investors it's worth the investment 😃

Big fan of this approach to PS1 remasters with Soul Reaver, Tomb Raider and Croc where they make the graphics look like the pre rendered CG of the era. It's more charming than making them look like modern games.

I'm sure they are there, even Games that don't need it still have a brightness slider, lol.
Seeing them remaster Soul Reaver 1 and 2 is like a dream i have been waiting for a long time, i have all 5 original LOK games, Soul Reaver 1 was my childhood along with my cousin and a couple of our friends lol
