Leif I downloaded the free trial version for the guitar and bass ..and it took me 4 min to decide to buy the license! Congratulations .. what an AMAZING Christmas present I have just given to myself!!! 😍🤟🎼🎶🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I've been using this since it came out. It's by far the best MIDI solution for guitar hands down and beats any pickup system by a mile. Congrats on this update, it looks absolutely brilliant!!
Man oh Man, this Beta mind bogglingly good! Yeah, Seven years well spent. This is basically a plugin Host inside your DAW, this brings everything together quite nicely, no need for extra plugins if you've been collecting them for years like most serious musicians!
I am so happy to hear that! I am not sure everybody appreciate how much time and effort has been invested in this project, so I would just like everyone that feels the way you do go in on the MIDI Guitar forum and also let mrJamOrigin himself know this! Peace and love, and good happiness stuff. 🙏🙏🙏
@@lofileif Right, it's sad how little people appreciate the effort it takes to build a system from scratch, from the ground up. I do construction for a living and am just now making my dream desk for my music creation and am thinking I should build this design again and sell the one I just made because it took years of thinking to make things just right and why should I keep it if someone else can use it more than me and is willing to pay me for all the labor I put into making it? I think it's far too often you get guys that just want it all for free and never give anyone back a price that is worthwhile. Personally I feel like I should be paying for this upgrade to Midi Guitar 3, even though I've been a owner since Version one, because it's well worth it! It's so much better in every way. But that's just me... I say you get what you pay for, and certainly it's well worth the $100 paid 11 years ago for it.
I'm so looking forward to this. I use Mac so hopefully I'll be informed soon about the beta download. Midi guitar has changed my life and now I'm making music at a crazy velocity. I'm a crap keyboard player, and trying to play cool jazz solos on keyboard was a nightmare for me. Thanks for this great life saving software.
Check your mail, and tell me if you don't already have an invite? We are dying to know if it is going out alright. If not, check your Spam folder as well! 👍
@jurecehovin4039 Ok, there has been some issues with the outgoing mail. If you have a second mail adress, you could try signing up to the newsletter eoth that too. I signed up with three adresses, but got only answer on one. We need to try some different strategies , I am afraid!
Thanks Rick! Yeah, this is coming along nicely. And it is getting really warm and cozy outside, if I ever get the time to get out again! 😃 Hope you are well too. 👍
This is thrilling news! After using the PC version of V2, I recently bought the iOS app and enjoying on my iPad for portability. I just love the simple piano but this news about extending to simulate other guitars is exceptional!
Beta is ion its way to you all, as I am writing this. I will definitely do a video on MPE setup (polyphony is just one aspect, but of course that will be covered as well).
For those with dropped tunings, 7 String etc. The problem with tracking out of the normal tuning channel is bandwidth. From the lowest note on the lowest string, which requires much more processing than the higher notes, to the highest on the highest string takes an incredible amount of processing bandwidth. It's not just a case of combining midi guitar with the midi bass app. It's possible to run each in parallel, yes. But not without a lot of messing around and a heavy burden on CPU/Memory. But each requires a 64 bit path that is very much utilized. Perhaps with 128bit multicore processors, in the future, a wide bandwidth detection algorithm can run without frying things. But be excited! You might not realize how incredible it is to have polyphony in a single mono signal. Especially with LOW LATENCY!!! Wow! :)
Exactly the reason for why extended range tracking had to wait a little. We have a great solution, and don't want to compromise it. We will be back, though!
I’ve heard this before but I don’t think so. I can do it with the bass plugin and the guitar plugin, I only just need the guitar one for some higher notes not by much, I’d be happy using the bass plugin but then it’s missing other features. Adding one more string detection (you’ve already got it ala bass plugging) can’t break the bank. My Mac is running sweet as and it would be fine to load 8 modulators and the like doing real time trickery, that doesn’t make sense to me but anyway
Sorry what I mean is, happy to choose the lowest note I need, and then however high it can go is what it is, I’m fine with that. I can do higher parts in other takes n shit that’s fine
Hey, thanks! It is really JamOrigin that has done all the heavy lifting. I have just had the pleasure of coming along for the ride, having some opinions, and reporting out to you guys. 👍
This is great stuff. I've been messing with midi on guitar since the Roland GR700/G-707 combo through to the VG-99 & GR-55s. MG2 freaked me out in the best possible way. And this is certainly the seeds of a crazy cool future!
I can only agree. I am a little afraid that we bring the wrath of the all the vintage hardware lovers upon us, but I believe this is the best solution hitherto. 😃
Way cool. Great and exciting walkthrough. 👍 You know. It's not often that I wish I had a Mac instead of my custom built Windows workstation. In fact I never have. Although I have been using and supporting Macs a part of my working career. So this is a first. I got the mail from JamO the other day and I can't wait until the Windows beta run starts. 😊
Thank you HJ! 🙏 You seem to share that sentiment with quite a few PC and strict iOS users now, but pop on over to the Forum and take part of the beta finding without the hassle of blackscreening yourself. It will most likely be a much easier transition phase for the next platforms. 😀👍
@@lofileif You've got a good point there. I'll do. There are some benefits to not be the first ones into the fray too. Too bad we live so far apart. Else I could just pop over to your place and satisfy my curiosity while I wait. 😊 Oh, well. I just got a message from Ableton that my Live 12 upgrade license is ready. So it's not like I I'm running out of tools to explore. 😊
@hjvarfjell Well, that might just keep you busy for a day or two. I haven’t gone for the upgrade myself yet, with all the hours put into this here other project 😅
Excellent video. Looking VERY forward to this version. Sadly I can't take place in beta, but I can't see many problems to have to sort out. The last version was great.
i bought Midi Guitar a couple of years ago. it is such a great product. i mainly use it to play pad sounds from my Prophet Rev2 mixed with the guitar channel. Can't wait to upgrade to the new version. 🙂
Very excited to demo this when it’s available. I had two issues with MG2 that kept me from purchasing, which were present on every type of guitar I tried. One was chromatic passing tones between whole steps and the other was when pitch bend was enabled the instrument sounded awful. My technique isn’t sloppy and I tried troubleshooting with no solution - I am VERY ready to use my guitar as a controller since I do mostly synth work nowadays for my own music. I am stuck using a keyboard, or a Launchpad set to 4ths or a cheap toy (rock band 3 Mustang controller). I can get around on keyboard but am infinitely more comfortable on guitar - really have high hopes now after seeing this!
I don't feel I have had those issues with any version of MIDI Guitar, but it will certainly be interesting to hear those are issues with MG3: Will you let me know?
Agreed. I found the MG2 demo to be almost good enough, but just not clean enough to convince me to buy. My fingers are crossed tightly that V3 will improve things enough. Being able to play synth sounds with typical guitar shapes/chords is a potential source of new inspiration.
@@Bankie666 I can’t see how anyone that was at least reasonably happy with MG2 shouldn’t be at least very happy with MG3. But I’ll leave it up to the future to tell me what really is the case. I am after all an old school empiricist. 🤔
Certainly can let you know whenever i can get my hands on MG3 to test and see if those issues are still present. Appreciate your content as I wouldn’t have really given MG2 much thought had i not seen your thoughtful and well done showcases. Very excited for MG3 if it ends up not presenting the issues I saw with 2 since so much of my work now is controlling synths@@lofileif
The way to get it today is obviously to be a MG2 license holder on a Mac. JamOrigin has not put out a date for release, because it is going to depend on the testing showing them ”when it is ready”. So best practice is to keep updated via the betatest site: www.jamorigin.com/beta/
For now we are going with standard low E (for the beta) What we will end up with I haven't a clue about yet, and it would be foolish of me to even speculate. So I am going to have to get back to you on this. 👍
this looks super exciting! I just received the email today about the beta and can't wait to leave the office to try it out in the evening. But let's be honest. While all these bells and whistles and mpe seem very exciting, the most important aspect is the improvement of note detection. Hopefully we will see less unintended ghost notes overall.
@barankaypakoglu7643 it is beta, and everybody knows this, but did you report the crash? I believe jJamOrigin got a lof of the intial crashes fixed. What version did you try?
Thanks! You think I need to practice more? You are probably right. @@lofileif Thanks for your answer. I didn't mention that you practiced!.. Can you make a working video from Contact Library examples? I said. but you have prepared these videos before!.., I will definitely watch them. thanks. Also, MidiG3 Plugin (my SSD) crashes while searching!.. Freezes!.. Doesn't search...
So I am not sure I understand completely what you are asking for, but if you are looking for a way to use MG# and Kontakt together I can recommend this video as well: th-cam.com/video/Vp2NZ_u6n_o/w-d-xo.html If your computer crashes when using MG3 I recommend you post a question in the MIDI Guitar Forum so the developer of the software have a chance to see if there is something he needs to do. This software is still in beta obviously, so there is always a risk there is something that needs fixing. Post your question here: jamosapien.com
This is all wonderful news Leif!! Currently I'm using a patchwork combination of Midi Guitar 2+ Midi Bass in Bitwig for my Drop C and extended range 7 string tunings, since unfortunately MIDI Guitar 2 cant recognize lower notes(B1 being the lowest note it can track). Which is definitely not ideal, but somewhat workable if your daw/software can do the relatively complex midi routing. However with the introduction of MPE, it's about to get a lot more complex for people like me. That is, IF the developers fail to implement support for extended range guitars, which shouldnt be the case since MIDI BASS can already do it. So unless they expect us to figure it out ourselves, (which dont get me wrong Im up for the challenge 😄) I just hope that we will receive some good news on this topic before the release 😄 I think that a great software like MG3 deserves extended range support to realize its full potential! Thank you and much love!
So ,there has been a lot of effort directed towards the low range recognition, but no satisfactory solution at this time. So we went ahead with a for now split project of a Duophonic bass (and perhaps low range solution) . But nothing is finished and I don't know what will come out in the end either. We are going to have to take one hurdle at a time, and hope that users have patience and understanding with that. All is definitely not said on this subject yet. But I need to come back to you later as things develop, I hope you understand. 👍
That's perfectly understandable! I will try to make it work with the beta to see if I can "get away with it" 😄Oh and one more thing, will midi bass 2 come out with MPE too? because if so I may be in the clear. however if it's about implementing low range recognition with MPE? Well that would be up to you guys to figure out hahaha @@lofileif
I’m betting most people will agree with me when I say we can live without the full range if that’s what the issue is, but let us choose our lowest note, then have it extend as high as your current methodology can, and that’s ok
Thanks! Well, I haven't had a chance to evaluate the MIDI Bass yet, I am afraid. It is work in progress, but I really don't know how far along we are yet. I'll tell you guys as soon as I know, of course! 👍
Fingers crossed for a Windows beta. If not I'll impatiently await a Windows release, hopefully in VST format as well, to simplify integrating in DAW etc.
Well, I couldn't cover it all in this first introduction to the interface, but the plugin interface is identical if you want it to be, but it also has a minimal (just MIDI conversion) option. I will have to go over all this stuff in context later, because it is really so much details.👍
sorry if I missed this, but is there a noticeable difference in latency between GM2 and GM3? I have to upgrade my computer to run GM3 so I haven't had a chance to try it yet
Hi Alex! I can’t answer any of those questions at this point. Beta for MacOS is out now, and when JamOrigin is happy with having ironed out the quirks from this, they will go on to the iOS and the Windows versions. For all info on testing status and updates, go to: www.jamorigin.com/beta/
I don't know if porting to iPad means some features will have to go, at this point. Keep updated via the forum, and on the beta test page, and you will know when I know: 😀👍www.jamorigin.com/beta/
Thanks Tim. I also had a GR33 back in the days, and I really enjoyed that. Then came the VG99 which was even better, but after that everything went downhill with the GR-55 and the GP10 (in my opinion). The software thing is another way of solving things, and I hope you like it when you try it! 👍
@@lofileif i hope so. This world of midi guitar has been stagnating. I record and use Melodyne or something to convert when I want good tracking and filter the short bleeps via studio one filters. That isn’t very satisfying as it isn’t realtime
It is a steel stringed acoustic that I will come to in a later video on software instrument developer’s unwillingness to conform to technological advancement! 😀👍
Good start. Thanks. One question... Given what you say about the software instrument muting the guitar's regular sound, what would be the easiest way to actually blend the guitar regular sound with the software instrument in this interface?
You have three channels (chains) and a Mixer built in. Use one chain for audio another for a synth and third for a backing track or whatever. Have your expression pedal control the mixerfader. Heck, you can even control two faders in a crossfade relationship with one pedal. There are very few limitations. I have only shown you the chase of the app yet. More to come.
@@lofileif Got it. Thanks. The added flexibility and features look very promising. I'll have to take some time to play with it. As I think of it, compared to version 2, is there any noticeable improvement in the department of "false triggers"?
I don’t have one myself, and I have seen a lot of discussion around this controller on the JamOrigin forum. Maybe if you post a question there? I kmow there are many guys with that particular controller in there. jamosapien.com
I wish I had something to offer here, but I don't know really. I haven't heard anything from the JamOigin camp about a date, so the only thing to do is to follow the development on the beta page right now. www.jamorigin.com/beta/
Amazing!!! Recently bought midi guitar 2 for the iPad, 3 will be a game changer once more. I don’t have MG2 on the mac, is it still possible to be elligible for that beta round perhaps?
The beta round for the IPad hasn’t started yet. First out is MacOS, and once we have that under control we move on to iOS and PC. So, just sign up! www.jamorigin.com/beta/
@@lofileif sorry, that was an ipad typo. I meant lower tuning. Myself and almost every other guitarist ever tunes either lower than E or has more strings. My work horse guitars are 6 string in B (normal guitar, one lower string) and an 8 string. I can get what I need by a painful combination of midi bass and guitar 2 but it’s pretty hopeless and I’m hoping v 3 can get us down there.
@ApiaryProductions Yes, ok! There has been attempts made already to also include extended range guitars, but JamOrigin choose to start this evaluation process with the beta for standard tunings just to start somewhere. Lower tuning will be adressed going forward, but also know that the low tuning is sort of the antithesis to fast tracking, because of how the conversion process works. So it is probably one of the hardest problems still left.
Hey, you once mentionned a little plugin to use in Kontakt that allows polyphonic pitch bending data to be transmitted from Midi Guitar to Kontakt instruments, can you remind me of what it was? Thanks!
If it was the Grumpy Monkey plugin/script you are thinking of it is NOT polyphonic. It gives us bend where we had none , but not polyphonic bends I am afraid. th-cam.com/video/Vp2NZ_u6n_o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1JkRAZG15CA4Vs7i&t=403
I want to try Sampletank or kontakt instruments but I press instruments, then Sampletank and there is no way to choose an instrument. How can I accomplish that? Thanks.
Sampletsnk is a particularly bad choice for a plugin to start with, because you really can’t set it up to recieve in OMNI mode, on all channels. MIDI Guitar 3 use the MPE protocol, which means it is sending out all notes together with values for pitchbend and other stuff on multiple channels at once, all the time. Sampletank can’t make sense of information sent this way, at this point in time. So you are better of starting with Kontakt. And there is really no difference using Kontakt in a DAW like Logic or Ableton from using it in MIDI Guitar 3. Open Kontakt and choose an instrument. You might want to take a look athe video about setting in Kontakt for a place to start? th-cam.com/video/Vp2NZ_u6n_o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xF9YXrnt9ixMYOed
At 2:50 of your video (MIDI Guitar 3 Tracker Module), you display a graphical representation of Strike, Glide, Slide, Press, and Lift. What is the source of that display? Thanks :-)
Looks great! I own MG2 for Mac now (it's fantastic BTW). Will I get a notice that the beta is available to me automatically, or do I need to specifically sign up for the beta list at the link you provided. Thx.
You should have it in your mail now, or any minute now depending on where on the Mailing list your name is ! Don''t forget to check your Spam (especially if you have a yahoo mail, it seems) 😀👍 Would appreciate to hear if you got it alright!
I have no benchmark test to refer to, but my guess would be that MG2 was less CPU hungry. MG2 in and of itself never gave me any trouble. It was more a question of what I choose to use it with. Wait for a demo of MG3 to find out if it works for you, and your setup. 👍
Hi , great video I have purchased MG2 for the first time, running windows 10 on laptop and a focusrite solo. I have no signal reaching MG2 my guitar sound fine through the interface into an amp via the output, but nothing from MG2... driving me nuts now, any advice gratefully received.Mal
So, I really can't tell what could be the problem at this point, but I think I saw you posting on the Forum as well? That is probably the best way to get help, as there are more people there with different experiences with different platforms. Myself, I am a Mac guy, and I always fall short of being able to come up with solutions for PC setups, if it isn't anything too obvious. Best of luck! 👍
Thank you for sharing videos on Midi guitar. Guitarists know the pain of not being able to do midi properly, especially if they are not keyboardists. In one of your early videos (and also on Jamorigin’s website) there are explanations on how to use this plugin with Logic. Does that remain the same with Midi Guitar 3 also? Please do enlighten.
Do you mean if we have any videos on how to use MIDI guitar 3 with Logic yet? No. The basic concept is still the same though, open the plugin on an Audi channel and your software instruments on a MIDI/software instrument channel (or inside MG3 on the Audio channel). These setups are still the same. I will probably do videos of this however, so if there is anything new that needs explaining it will be in that!
@@lofileif Thank you! I am planning to buy the software soon. After two years of research, it seems the best possible way to do midi and digital modelling from a guitar. Thanks again. May I ask if I could reach out to you for any query on mail? (If it is not too much to ask)
No problem. Send me your questions. But please tag me on the MIDI Guitar forum instead. That way, any help I can provide might also be of assistance to more people. jamosapien.com
I am running my setup in 48 /No Rosetta right now. (Mac M1 studio w/ Scarlett 2i4) I don't know when these chanfges have been implemented though. You'd have to ask JamOrigin in their forum for that. jamosapien.com
On Mac OS what's the CPU footprint like in M3 from within a DAW like Ableton Live. I'd be interested to run this on my live set, but CPU utilization matters. From testing M2, it's good thus far.
MG3 is more CPU heavy than MG2. How much? I can’t say, I don’t have any data. You can try the beta, and see for yourself. But remember that this is still a work in progress, and that include the work on CPU effiency.
Only as a beta. No date. You are welcome to try it as it is right now though. Just go to the beta page and look in the DOWNLOADS section. www.jamorigin.com/beta/
Well, they kind of do the same things to some extent, but you can probably run the clean unaffected guitar signal from the SY1000 into MG# on a computer if there is a clean audio available via the USB . In my GP 10 I had 8 channels of clean audio available. If the SY1000 is anything like that, you can use any the first two channels 1-2 in MG3. You open MG3, choose the SY1000 as your preferred audio interface and choose channel 1 or 2. Then why, is the question left to answer. But that is up o you.
I use MG 2 for IOS since many many years, also the AU version. When will MG 3 for IOS hit the market? And do you expect it to have an improved tracking? No bells sand whistles for me, a simple but fast version would be great!
Sorry about the late answer. I didn’t see this for some reason. The best way to keep updated on the JamOrigin development progress is probably the beta page. www.jamorigin.com/beta/ The tracking is already vastly improved with the addition of MPE. You’ll have the opportunity to try the demo to see for yourself once it comes out for iOS. But I can’t imagine anyone interested in this technology be unhappy woth this, with less than they completely screw up in the initial setup. 👍
I can’t tell people how they will feel about latency. It is obviously part of these kind of solutions. It has been vastly improved. Is it good enough for you? I can’t say. Better if you tell me. If you don’t have a previous version it will eventually come in a playable demo, just like MG2 was. That gives people a chance to decide for themselves, which I think is what really counts . Wouldn’t you agree?
There is no second purchase for the upgrade to MG3 from MG2. If you purchase MG2 now you will get MIDI Guitar 2, and also have access to the beta versions of MG3 during development (without the trial interruption), and then finally when MIDI Guitar 3 is released you will be automatically updated to the released version.
I don't know how well that would work in practice. Even though MIDI Guitar 3 has much less jitter and artifacts in this new version , I wouldn't expect clean enough results right off the bat. But I haven't tried it, so I can't say anything really! Sorry
@@lofileif OH !!! Thanks so much for your fast replay. I´m from Barcelona Spain, where can I buy? and If I may to ask you ; I´m a beginner on all of this, so sorry about my questions. I just want to buy it , so I need to know what type of computer, I mean if it would take a lot of space on my current one lenovo 8gb. I just want the midi 3 program don´t want any pluggins, would I have enough? just to add some strings , pianos and syns on my songwriting.....I´d like to thank you for your amazing videos
The nice thing about JamOrigin is that they let you try it out before buying. So that way you know if it is what you are looking for, if it works with your computer, and everything you need to know before buying. I wish more companies would do this. MG3 is not out yet, it is still being developed. But you can still join in, and download the beta to test your setup with. There is a way to get past the trial mode, and that is if you buy a license for the current version (MG2), because all MG2 owners get MG3 for free as an upgrade. But I highly recommend you try it out first. Look in the DOWNLOADS section on this page. www.jamorigin.com/beta/
Two questions. 1. How is the old pitch bend different to new MPE? 2. How the old sustain mode of piano-sustain or hold function different to the new ones?
Pitch bend is now polyphonic, every note has its own pitchbend information, whereas in MG2 all simultanously played notes shared pitch bend information. Old piano-like sustain didn’t have any button for release time, and the new freeze function (hold chord) is cutting off pitch bend at the point of being pressed. Not as before, delayed for some time, allowing for a lot of bend information to slip in and cause trouble.
You will of course get it when it is released. And we don't have a date for this release. Since the beta test is meant to find the stuff we don't know of, we can't know for sure how long it takes to fix it. 👍
@@lofileif Thanks for responding. And also a question, maybe already answered but might be a decent topic for another video: I hear many people say that the tracking in this is better than most hardware(individual pickups) options, but wouldn't it be evem better in terms of latency and tracking if you had one of those and combined with this software? As an option, of course, as the software by itself is cheaper and more accessible.
@@oblikua We have indeed worked on such an option, allowing for hexPU into MIDI Guitar 3. Not because it would do much for the tracking, but more because guitar players are very conservative. And now, they are very attached to the idea of per-string-assignment of instruments. For some, not having this is even a dealbreaker. So there have been attempts made to cater to also this part of the guitarist community, but we have not reached a point where we have a good enough version of the tracker to offer (yet).
@@lofileif Ah. Interesting 😂. As a guitar player who went mostly digital more than 15 years ago, I forget how "superstitious" guitar players can be with their gear and sound(totally legit view, not dissing analog purists). I'm definitely gonna give the trial a go, although I know that my DAW(Reason) will probably need some other software to work properly, due to the DAW itself and how it handles software midi input. And the MPE features in v3 sound so awesome. Thanks!
Thanks Leif looks great. I’ve been using MG2 iOS on an iPhone with a tonewood amp on an acoustic and have had some weird artifacts where when I’m singing, it triggers the MG2 and MIDI! Tried tweaking both MG2 and the tonewood and haven’t been able to stop this. Any ideas?
Hi Tim! Sorry to say I have no experience with Tonewood amps whatsoever. The best place for advice is really the (Jamorigin) MIDI Guitar forum. jamosapien.com A lot of users with different gear and a lot of experience.
Hi, I'm very interested in v3. However my music production machine is running osx 10.11 el capitan, will this support older version too in the future? I see for now the beta requires mac os 11 Big Sur or later. Thanks.
@timothyvanvliet7802 Well, in a way I am. I have had a small part in the product functionality checking (QC? ) during the development, so you are not completly off. But I don’t have any insights in to company support and policy questions unfortunately. You are probably better off posting your qustion on the Forum though, as the answer could be relevant to a lot of users. 👍
Looks really interesting but, as a new discoverer of this software, I was hoping for more practical information as to how well it tracks and (presumably) translates what’s being played on the guitar to a midi track in the DAW - or maybe it doesn’t work like that - have to dig deeper! Thanks…
Oh, this does so so much! It is a performance rack and a plugin host, and a pitch to MIDI converter, and of course it works both in standalone and as a plugin in your DAW. Some tracking skills comes through in the previous teaser. MIDI Guitar 3 - coming soon th-cam.com/video/SX0jdGMSGcY/w-d-xo.html
@@lofileif As a plugin host, will it be fully capable of hosting Waves plugins? I've tried many times to get my Waves plugins to get scanned in Midi Guitar 2. Occasionally, I would get a couple to scan and work, most did not. Aside from Waves, probably 99% of the rest of my plugins did scan and work. Besides that, Midi Guitar 2 is still a unique and brilliant plugin/tool/instrument/plugin host. I can't wait for the windows version of Midi Guitar 3!
Woow, it seems so amazing and complex. I have a couple of questions hope you can answer: 1º has been solved the truncated polyphony with odd intervals? 2º where we can tweak bend and legato parameters?
I don't like talking about solved in absolute terms. It depends on what you want from it. You all get to try it out and decide for yourself. Let's say, there have been considerable improvements in the area of note polyphonic note recognition. Tweaking bend and legato? In the synths themselves would be my spontaneous answer. Bends are string bends, whether you use fingers, whammy bar, slide or fretless guitar. You can of course mess with the way bends are interpreted by the synth, by connecting any of the modulator envelopes or a vibrato pedal to it, but that generally just makes it harder to get predicable result from it. Legato, well we have Piano like sustain option on the sustain pedal that emulates a legato in the note overlap sense. But there is no dedicated legato setting like in the MG2.
Hello, thanks for the response. If there are improvements in the polyphonic recognition thats a very good news!. With bend I mean pitch bend range, something that you need to match with the synth you are playing in order to get the best results, in MG2 you can decide the range to match the synth. About the legato, I think thats bad news, at least to me, in many sample libraries and synths in order to trigger a legato sound you need to overlap slightly two notes, something you CANT do with a single guitar string, so that parameter was very useful in order to obtain that very important behavior in the sound you try to emulate. That legato thing happens in many many libraries. How do you do to trigger that aspect of the library when you play it?
This is an MPE controller., and you have a very competent polyphonic bend with that. Bend ranges are set to match each synth (on each synth) and you have a set of choices between 1 and 48. Don't be disappointed because there isn't a legato button. The piano-like sustain provides the same kind of MIDI overlap you are looking for, and you can set the releasetime from 0.0 to 10.0 seconds. And you can control it, turning it on and off with an external pedal or other controller of choice. It is just not called legato anymore.
Aha ok so there is a replacement of the legato function with the new sustain parameter, that’s good news! Classical midi sustain is a simple on off so this can be an interesting approach. It’s clear that MG3 is a very advanced and innovative new version, I only hope the windows version is around the corner, right?
I'd LOVE for allowance of 48K sample rate. This is literally the only thing that I have which requires 44.1 because I (and many others) are working largely in video and so we NEED 48K... It'd be great if 48K would be allowed at a minimum because of video requirements.
All external MIDI conrollers are just conncted to the computer (via USB). Check this video out for a little more info MIDI Guitar 3 Introduction - a first look inside th-cam.com/video/TBhyLVOL-_k/w-d-xo.html
The bass part is unfortunately dragging here as well, mostly for technical reasons. JamOrigin has tried a few different solutions of working things out, for at least a duo phonic version, but nothing is finished right now. And it is not from lack of trying, or interest. It is simply a fact that the lower you go, the harder it becomes to manage latency, unfortunately.
Have you tried sending the output to Logic and have Logic score your playing? Does it track fast and accurate? Every other MIDI interface I have tried fails to track finger style playing accurately.
Guitar to sheet music, you mean? Well, first off even if this software is improved so much so you would hear, or is bothered by any spurious notes, there is always a certain jitter in these kind of setups. And furthermore, since this is an analysis of a single audio stream from your guitar, and not six (like with hexaphonic pickups) there is no distinguishing where you are playing (in case you are looking to use it for TABs). So I wouldn't expect perfection. Improved, yes - Perfect, not yet. 👍
@liviofraschetti4713 Ok, you should really try that as a demo before buying anything. I haven’t had great results with Shreddage, but that doesn’t mean you can’t. 👍
@liviofraschetti4713 I didn’t agree with how it reacted as a virtual instrument. But you should really not take to much notice of my opinion here. I much rather hear what you thought about it after you have tried it! 👍
After a while there appears a box, right? And since you seem to have the serial number already, type it in manually. Don't try and copy and past it. I believe there is something wrong with that particular function.
Can we use it as simple as MG 2? In from guitar, out to instrument track? Trying to do that on Studio One with the beta version and no midi comes in to the instrument track.
I just answered you in the forum but for anyone else wondering, MIDI Guitar 2 and MIDI Guitar 3 differ in one important respect: MG3 uses the MPE protocol. That means that the way information is sent to virtual instruments via your DAW is different from plain legacy MIDI 1.0 (Like MG2 was) Every DAW seems to have its own solution to deal with this, and some (additional) steps are usually necessary to make it work. Not all DAWs even allow for MIDI to be forwarded from an Audio track FX, to begin with, and also there we had different solutions for different DAWs. So it is not as clear-cut as describing it as "as simple as MG2", I believe. MG3 is way more flexible, and only as complex as you allow for it to be. If you like to just load it as a plugin on an audio track, and use the MIDI GUiITAR MINI patch, it is practically the same thing as MG2. Different DAWs have different issues, and where some can use both AU and VST, others might just be able to use one or the other. The thing we need to do is to set up correctly and choose the environment that suits our needs the best.
Unfortunately, I cannot get Midi Guitar 2 to work with Cubase 13/mac M1. Will Midi Guitar 3 be compatible? I could really use this and ditch my Fishman Triple Play. Apparently it is an issue with compatibility with Cubase. I installed the files into VST folders but jnfortunately, cubase doesnt recognize it. I am running Cubase Pro 13.0.03 with latest update. Glad to help troubleshoot with beta Midi Guitar 3.
Hi Shaun. I don't use Cubase myself, but I have seen the discussions on the JamOrigin forum. There are a few solutions like trying a plugin host like Kushview ELEMENT (Free but could be unstable) or DDMF Metaplugin that might be worth trying? jamosapien.com/t/midi-guitar-2-doesnt-show-in-cubase-12-or-nuendo-12/5308 The reason seems to be that Cusase doesn't support neither the AU nor the VST2 format,, which is a shame. But check the forum out, I can see a few guys using MG3 with Cubase already.
All bug reports (these mail question fall into that category) are handled in a thread on the MIDI Guitar forum. Good luck. jamosapien.com/t/bug-license-code-not-being-sent-to-email/5994
Has the MIDI tracking improved? That's honestly all I really care about. The extra bells and whistles don't really matter if the tracking is still wonky. I mean, the tracking in MIDI Guitar 2 wasn't terrible, but it was far from an alternative to a hardware MIDI pickup.
Yes, it has improved. Especially if you consider the positives that MPE comes with when it comes to tracking and playing any instruments that involve polyphonic bends. The beta testing will go on to include more platforms soon enough, and then you’ll get a chance to test it for yourself. 👍
I have what should be a simple question: How do I make my electric guitar, a Parker Fly with humbuckers, sound like an acoustic guitar? The competition, GR-55 and GP10, convert signal before sending to the DAW, and are very expensive and require a special 13-pin pickup. As I understand it, MidiGuitar sends a midi signal to the DAW and you use MidiGuitar to change signal into another instrument (no external pickup or processing) in the DAW. How? Then, if you show that answer, can you tell me if MidiGuitar3 can track more than one music line better than MidiGuitar2, say a simple acoustic blues with a bass line separate from the main melody? Does MidiGuitar3 avoid the occasional problems with half step changes? Can I mix melody lines, bass lines (with palm muting), and strumming on my electric so it sounds like an acoustic? Are there any acoustic guitar instruments (software) you would recommend to use in MidiGuitar3 to get the required sound? I'm trying to play my electric guitar like my acoustics for fingerstyle blues.
You just connect your Parker Fly directly to your audio interface, and open MIDI Guitar 3. The software will convert the incoming audio to MIDI (MPE if you like) , and you just open any software instrument you have in any of the Chain slots, th-cam.com/video/bFr3ilP6dKc/w-d-xo.html If you want to use MG3 with a DAW you can open it as a Plugin inside your DAW of choice, or you send MIDI from the standalone version of the app. That is up to you. MIDI Guitar 3 has vastly improved tracking both concerning single lines and polyphonic tracking. Please take a look at my most recent videos for the rest of the questions. th-cam.com/video/bFr3ilP6dKc/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Vp2NZ_u6n_o/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for such a quick response (within an hour of my inquiry) and all the time you spend explaining this stuff to the community. I reviewed the other videos you cited and probably understood 50 percent of the content. I'll be honest. I'm just a hobbyist. But I think there are a lot of us out there. Our use case: We want to play something that sounds acoustic without breaking out the loud acoustic guitars with the larger fretboards that are hard on our small hands and so loud they bother our neighbors. In addition, let's say I'm a businessman on a business trip and I'm in a hotel somewhere. I don't want to lug an expensive acoustic with me, but if I have cheap, small electric guitar with me, I bet I can plug it into Midi Guitar 3 on a laptop and hear myself in my hotel room with headphones without disturbing the neighbors. This makes your product valuable even to hobbyists who have trouble practicing without bothering others, even at home. I suspect I'll need a more powerful laptop to avoid latency and tracking issues, but I'm willing to buy one and your product if I see that your product can do the job. I'd really like to see someone playing simple fingerstyle blues (palm-muted bass line and melody line, strumming, etc.) via MidiGuitar3 and showing me a simple way to set that up. I understand that the product offers even more versatility than I need but that comes with increased complexity that may require more training than I need. I'm looking for how to use it in my simple case. I bet it's possible for someone to show how that's done at some point, and that will be a big draw. @@lofileif
@user-mq7fz4dl9h First, so to avoid any mistake, this is neither my product or creation. JamOrigin is the company behind this product. www.jamorigin.com I have just been lucky enough to be able to be part of seeing MG3 being developed. And by being part of the test team I have had the opportunity to make some videos about it along the way. But now the software is being tested broadly (with public beta), and I can start relying on it being its own best marketing tool for anyone interested. JamOrigin has always had this great demo where you get to try the full thing for as long as you like before you buy. And i am sure this will still be the case, going forward. So any questions you might have, you should be able to decide for yourself instead of me telling you guys ”how good” or ”groundbraking” this is. If you already own MG2 (and work with a Mac) you are free to join the beta testing now, otherwise there will be a demo coming soon! 👍
Bending into and out from is not a problem. You have to try it for yourself once it out for your platform, to decide if it is good enough for whatever you intend to use it for.
@@eti313 Any Mac user MG2 license holder gets to use the beta right away. If you want to wait for it being tested all the way through, i have no idea, when that will be. 🤷♂️
Will this just work as a way to convert audio into midi for my existing sample libraries? Real straight forward Without all the bells n whistles. Would be nice to have that and not have to host them inside the Midi Guitar plug in. Cheers!
It comes as a standalone and a plugin version (same purchase) You can use either of these in some stripped down, bare minimum Pitch -to-MIDI functionality with the MIDI Guitar MINI patch. So the plugin version with the MINI patch is what you are looking for.
@@lofileif Ahhh gotcha! Thats amazing. How would that run in cubase? As a plug in on the instrument track? Or can you open one instance of it and have it go to what ever instrument/VST you have armed? I have a fishman triple play and it does that but I'm looking for something better...
@wayneholden2819 You should be able to choose either option. As standalone we load a MIDI out Module, and as plugin you have that by default in the opening patch. Open plugin on an Audio track, and then it is a little different for each DAW. I can’t help you with Cubase, unfortunately. I use Logic, Abelton, Reason or Camelot.
@wayneholden2819 You open it as a plugin on an AUDIO track, and from there it can be used for every instrument track you open. Any specifics for Cubase i can’t help you with, since I don’t have it. But uou can also run it as Standalone outside of Cubase too, and still control instrument tracks inside it.
The use of (only) a 256 buffer size is by JamOrigin design during the beta testing. It will open to all settings once it is being released. Setting up in Logic: th-cam.com/video/bFr3ilP6dKc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=urLTTHOIBdlHPZ0i&t=511
Leif I downloaded the free trial version for the guitar and bass ..and it took me 4 min to decide to buy the license! Congratulations .. what an AMAZING Christmas present I have just given to myself!!! 😍🤟🎼🎶🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Congrats and Merry Christmas. I am glad you are happy with the software. I’ll be sure to let the developer know as well! 🙏🎁🎄
Thanks for the video! I haven't used MIDI Guitar in awhile, but when I got the email about the 3 beta, I'm stoked to try it out this weekend.
Hope you’ll like it. I just published another video as a follow up for some further details if you are interested. 👍
I've been using this since it came out. It's by far the best MIDI solution for guitar hands down and beats any pickup system by a mile. Congrats on this update, it looks absolutely brilliant!!
Thanks Toby! I hope you enjoy the update/new version equally as much as the previous ones. 👍
Would you say it beats the Jamstik?
I don’t know. I haven’t used Jamstik. 🤷♂️
Man oh Man, this Beta mind bogglingly good! Yeah, Seven years well spent. This is basically a plugin Host inside your DAW, this brings everything together quite nicely, no need for extra plugins if you've been collecting them for years like most serious musicians!
I am glad you like it. Well put, it is a performance rack and plugin host, but it is also crazy modular and flexible. I like it too. very much! 👍
@@lofileif Absolutely Loving it!! Can't stop playing, it's purely inspirational...
What about translating pre-recorded guitar tracks in a DAW like Cubase?
Congratulations! I can’t wait for MG3 on the iPad.
It is coming too, but this is the MacOS version we are testing first 👍

I'm so looking forward to this. I use Mac so hopefully I'll be informed soon about the beta download. Midi guitar has changed my life and now I'm making music at a crazy velocity. I'm a crap keyboard player, and trying to play cool jazz solos on keyboard was a nightmare for me.

This is thrilling news! After using the PC version of V2, I recently bought the iOS app and enjoying on my iPad for portability. I just love the simple piano but this news about extending to simulate other guitars is exceptional!
Well, it is certainly easier to bring just one guitar to the gig.😀👍
Amazing! A video on how to set up poly bend functionality with kontakt libraries would be high on my wish list.
That is a video in high demand, and it is sure to be among the first ones to get done. 👍
Amazing Update! & Helpful Video on polyphonic MPE setup! Looking forward to the Beta! Congrats

You got it? My man! Thanks for letting me know? Have fun now! 👍
MG3 looks amazing, can't wait to try the beta
Any time now! JamOrigin is having some issues with the outgoing mails right now, but it should be solved soon, I hope.
You have been working! This is great. Tks.
😃
Been using hardware guitar midi for decades and this is beginning to seem like a real competitor to all of them
I think so too. I have my old gear still around, but only to remind me of how much better this is 😀👍

Thank you HJ! 🙏 You seem to share that sentiment with quite a few PC and strict iOS users now, but pop on over to the Forum and take part of the beta finding without the hassle of blackscreening yourself. It will most likely be a much easier transition phase for the next platforms. 😀👍

Looking VERY forward to this version. Sadly I can't take place in beta, but I can't see many problems to have to sort out. The last version was great.
It is probably going to be a whole lot of things to sort out, but hopefully nothing catastrophic! Thanks 👍
i bought Midi Guitar a couple of years ago. it is such a great product. i mainly use it to play pad sounds from my Prophet Rev2 mixed with the guitar channel. Can't wait to upgrade to the new version. 🙂
I believe you won’t be dissapointed! 😀👍
What is the range of tunings you can use for MG3? The lowest turning for MG2 was D standard. Can we go lower than D2?
For now we are going with standard low E (for the beta) What we will end up with I haven't a clue about yet, and it would be foolish of me to even speculate. So I am going to have to get back to you on this. 👍
this looks super exciting! I just received the email today about the beta and can't wait to leave the office to try it out in the evening. But let's be honest. While all these bells and whistles and mpe seem very exciting, the most important aspect is the improvement of note detection. Hopefully we will see less unintended ghost notes overall.

This is just it, I don't know until I know. And right now I don't. Sorry! 🤷♂️
You've been more than helpful my friend thank you 😄🙏@@lofileif
I’m betting most people will agree with me when I say we can live without the full range if that’s what the issue is, but let us choose our lowest note, then have it extend as high as your current methodology can, and that’s ok
Awesome!!! How is the work over MIDI Bass?
Let's hope! I don't know really what formats everything is coming out on, on all platforms. But it will show eventually! 👍
You are a genius. Thankyou.

Video seems to cover standalone MG3, but what about assigning all the new MPE controls within a DAW context?
Well, I couldn't cover it all in this first introduction to the interface, but the plugin interface is identical if you want it to be, but it also has a minimal (just MIDI conversion) option. I will have to go over all this stuff in context later, because it is really so much details.👍
sorry if I missed this, but is there a noticeable difference in latency between GM2 and GM3? I have to upgrade my computer to run GM3 so I haven't had a chance to try it yet

@@lofileif i hope so. This world of midi guitar has been stagnating. I record and use Melodyne or something to convert when I want good tracking and filter the short bleeps via studio one filters. That isn’t very satisfying as it isn’t realtime
Great acoustic or nylon at the beggining!!

My FBC 1010 doesn't work with midi 3. Any suggestions?

This is incredible.
Glad to hear you think so! 😀👍
It’s great as I knew it would be. I love the reason like routing, so good. Must cater for lower tuning pleeeeaaase
”losing tuning”? I don’t understand. Please explain?
@@lofileif thank you : ) Any release date planned for MG3 yet?
@chrisroyer No, you’ll have to keep an eye on the beta page for news on any official releases. 👍

Is CPU usage improved? I struggled to do overdubs in a packed sessions

Hola acabo de comprar boss sy 1000 ,
Como puedo usarlo junto con boss sy 1000???? Gracias
Muchas gracias, lo probaré a ver si me funciona, porque me gustaría usarlo en cubas sin tarjeta de sonido y no se como?
I use MG 2 for IOS since many many years, also the AU version. When will MG 3 for IOS hit the market? And do you expect it to have an improved tracking? No bells sand whistles for me, a simple but fast version would be great!
Sorry about the late answer. I didn’t see this for some reason. The best way to keep updated on the JamOrigin development progress is probably the beta page. www.jamorigin.com/beta/
The tracking is already vastly improved with the addition of MPE. You’ll have the opportunity to try the demo to see for yourself once it comes out for iOS. But I can’t imagine anyone interested in this technology be unhappy woth this, with less than they completely screw up in the initial setup. 👍
Big question ! LATENCY? What’s it like ?
I can’t tell people how they will feel about latency. It is obviously part of these kind of solutions. It has been vastly improved. Is it good enough for you? I can’t say. Better if you tell me. If you don’t have a previous version it will eventually come in a playable demo, just like MG2 was. That gives people a chance to decide for themselves, which I think is what really counts . Wouldn’t you agree?
If i get version 2 now, will i get the updated version later when it's released, or is that going to be another purchase?
There is no second purchase for the upgrade to MG3 from MG2. If you purchase MG2 now you will get MIDI Guitar 2, and also have access to the beta versions of MG3 during development (without the trial interruption), and then finally when MIDI Guitar 3 is released you will be automatically updated to the released version.
@@lofileif Great! That's awesome

But I highly recommend you try it out first. Look in the DOWNLOADS section on this page. www.jamorigin.com/beta/
@@lofileif God bless you, you are great
Two questions.
I see. Thanks for the info
Epic!
It sure is! 👍
If I was to buy version 2 now, would I get version 3 when it comes out? And is there any date for v3 to be buyable, whether beta or not?
The best way for you to stay updated is to vist the beta page. That is where JamOrigin post any news and plans.
www.jamorigin.com/beta/
I will be! I am testing with 48K now. Patience, please!
Where is the Breathe controller connected?
All external MIDI conrollers are just conncted to the computer (via USB). Check this video out for a little more info
MIDI Guitar 3 Introduction - a first look inside
th-cam.com/video/TBhyLVOL-_k/w-d-xo.html
What about bass we seem to be getting left behind
The bass part is unfortunately dragging here as well, mostly for technical reasons. JamOrigin has tried a few different solutions of working things out, for at least a duo phonic version, but nothing is finished right now. And it is not from lack of trying, or interest. It is simply a fact that the lower you go, the harder it becomes to manage latency, unfortunately.
Can’t wait for the new iOS version!!!
All in due time! 👍

@@lofileif in terms of sound or controlling with a guitar used as a midi controller ?

Hello. Please tell me how I can enter the license in Midi Guitar 3?
There are a few solutions like trying a plugin host like Kushview ELEMENT (Free but could be unstable) or DDMF Metaplugin that might be worth trying?
jamosapien.com/t/midi-guitar-2-doesnt-show-in-cubase-12-or-nuendo-12/5308
The reason seems to be that Cusase doesn't support neither the AU nor the VST2 format,, which is a shame. But check the forum out, I can see a few guys using MG3 with Cubase already.

How to use with hardware?
It has a MIDI Out module in the MIDI Machines section. Just connect your computer to whatever hardware you want.
The software will convert the incoming audio to MIDI (MPE if you like) , and you just open any software instrument you have in any of the Chain slots, th-cam.com/video/bFr3ilP6dKc/w-d-xo.html
If you want to use MG3 with a DAW you can open it as a Plugin inside your DAW of choice, or you send MIDI from the standalone version of the app. That is up to you. MIDI Guitar 3 has vastly improved tracking both concerning single lines and polyphonic tracking. Please take a look at my most recent videos for the rest of the questions.

@@lofileif

I have just been lucky enough to be able to be part of seeing MG3 being developed. 👍
How does it handle two notes that are very close in pitch? For instance, bending up to a note that is already playing?
Bending into and out from is not a problem. You have to try it for yourself once it out for your platform, to decide if it is good enough for whatever you intend to use it for.
@@lofileif any idea when it's coming out for Mac? I'm ready to buy it immediately.
@@eti313 Any Mac user MG2 license holder gets to use the beta right away. If you want to wait for it being tested all the way through, i have no idea, when that will be. 🤷♂️

@@lofileif Cool, I'm just worried about buying MG2 and then having to buy MG3 a month later :)
@@lofileif Amazing! That sounds great. I'm gonna give it a go!
What is the problem of Mac / Logic :"Your DAW/Host runs at an unsupported buffer size (32). For now itcan only run at 256 samples pr buf..."
The use of (only) a 256 buffer size is by JamOrigin design during the beta testing. It will open to all settings once it is being released. Setting up in Logic:
