I really enjoy your channel. I'm a retired Family Pastor and what you are doing with your kids is to be commended. Some of the best times I had with my kids was working on cars. Now I get to see them do the same. I can see your Faith without you preaching. Keep passing your passions on.

I love how he has all his kids involved with getting these old cars running again. They are learning history of once was with these cars & how easy it was to work on them and it's something for them to look back at when they get older & good times and memories. Family bonding it's great to see that 😊

You should use a product called Penetrol. It's used in oil based paints to allow it to flow. Back her into the garage, clean the surface then use a sponge to put it on and let it dry! It Should seal the metal/paint and keep the finish that you want. Follow all safety precautions.

@@ronyoutu Usually you would use it to get back down to bare aluminum, and the thing is if you leave it on longer, it creates scale and oxide.. So I would maybe use it if you were trying to refinish the scaled and oxidized part maybe on a rag and rub it really well? It might rub off some of the existing stuff. But you'd have to neutralize it ASAP. Might work better than what I do which is sand "close enough to the original finish" and then respray lol, worth a shot, if you aren't worried about rolling the dice. But definitely don't just use a ton of it and leave it on, that wouldn't help much

I used oven cleaner on some ancient furniture that may have had a nitro finish that was stained over a million years of cigarettes and hand oils to remove just the top layer of the finish and keep as much as possible still on. I had a 59 Nash Metropolitan which had this coating. Metal strip works good but must be chiseled off. On my car, the coating only went half way up!

I have used Easy-Off oven cleaner to strip paint off of model cars. I usually allow it to sit over-night. I would recommend that you park it in the shade, buy a cheap "Drop cloth" and cover the car with it after applying a full coat of oven cleaner. Your problem is that you allow it to dry and then it becomes useless. I'll continue to watch to see how it works. Good luck.

Enamel cross links between molecules. Lacquer does not, it relies on solvent evaporation to leave the solids where ever they landed. That was a good candidate for sanding. Would have produced a really cool patina as you break through in some spots and not in others. Both paint stripper and oven cleaners have been severely neutered over the years. They all need to be covered with cellophane to slow solvent evaporation. The primer you may as well get five gallons of lacquer thinner and just wipe the primer off.

Can only guess your hoping to add patina over both the factory paint and the hack job someone did on the rear end. Chemical stripping on any auto is a pain since your having to deal with broad areas unlike an antique chair which has relief and mouldings to work around, but any chemical will damage old furniture and its value. Not gonna suggest what will work best, since rat rods are something I sort of admire after seeing some cool things done with body guys who knew how to do a suede finish properly. Just hope you get where you wanna be some sunny day. Best wishes.

When stripping paint, especially when using mild stripper like oven cleaner. Add some fairy liquid/ liquid soap to the water you wet the car with. This removes the “surface tension” from the water. This then enables the stripper to bite into the paint better. Making it easier to remove the paint!
    Hope this helps bud!!
Love this old car! And it’s 6 pot flathead!!

Easy-Off works fine on plastic model cars but on metal, I'd reach for Zip-Strip* or something similar.

I use methylene chloride, starts instantly. Paint wrinkles as it runs down the sides. I keep about a inch of water on top to keep the highly volatile liquid from evaporating.

I am watching this video three years on... did you eventually get the car finished? Looks like and interesting vehicle.
Yes hosing does the trick.. to clean the inside of an oven would involve washing the product off with water.
How many aerosol cans did you use?... must've been an expensive procedure?
Good job. Love the interaction with your son and animals.❤

I have enjoyed watching you and your family. But, I would actually like to see you complete a car project. Rather than just getting them running. And going to the next. Thank you!
