    RT 6pack was the VH E37, E38, E48 and the E49 from 1971 to 1972 with a 265 Hemi
    The one in this video is a 1973 VJ 770 with a VH grill and RT 6pack stickers added to it, the wheels are not original and the 318 V8 engine wasn’t the last there was an optional E55: with a 340 V8 and a E57:with a 360 V8 which was the last V8 engine produce.
    The 1972 VH RT 6pack E49 was the best Charger ever made by Chrysler Australia there was only 149 ever made and only a handful are left to this day, they are very hard to find and very rarely even to find any for sale, and when there is they can sell for $250,000 plus

    If my memory is correct, none of the R/T Chargers had a V-8 in them. I do know the E55 did.

    • @theghost6412
      @theghost6412 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got to remember the E55 was actually a 770. Not an R/T. Shame they died when they did. I think they had grand plans for the E55 if they continued its R&D. It more than likely would of been fitted with a 6pack like the R/T's here were. Probably quite like the American 340 6 packs. or maybe an 8 pack. We will never know sadly :(

    The Aussies were one of the countries outside the US that had legitimate muscle cars. This is a Valiant Charger that would have had a high performance Hemi head inline 6. They had Falcons with large V8s that resemble our Torinos. They had other cars with V8s.

    I was an Aussie in the mid 70's (live in the states now). The E-49 Chrysler Valiant Charger was the most unique of the Big Three muscle cars. The Ford Falcon GT & the Holden (GM) Monaro were slightly larger & much more common. The Chrysler Charger generally had a straight six with six-pack Weber carbs, and it produced over 300 horsepower. The exhaust note of the 265 cu. in. motor is VERY unique (look for TH-cam videos where they are driving the car). This 'mid-size' short-wheelbase car is, in my humble opinion, the best proportioned vehicle of the entire muscle car era. Thanks for the great video, Lou!

    Hey Lou! So nice that you've featured an Australian car! These cars were made in my hometown of Adelaide, South Australia & were an eyecatching car in their day. I remember the many wild colors they came out in. This Charger, whilst not genuine, is still a very nice example. The 3 Chargers in this series were the E38 (365 6 cyl. 3 spd. man. with triple carbs), the E49 (with 4 spd instead - which was one of the fastest 6 cyl. cars in the world at the time) & the E55 (340 V8). My next door neighbour bought an E55 brand new when he was 18 years old!! Very rare car. Cheers Tiger.

      @@TigerRogers0660 don't forget the 2 barrel R/T which shared the VH Pacer's 265 motor (218hp) and the E-37 (street version six pack) The E-48 I think was only a VJ option, so not an R/T but a six pack all the same.

    Not sure how many 73 Chargers are here in the states, but I got two 72's here in So. CA. One has the triple carb setup and the other only has a 4 barrel. The 265 engines have a distinct sound to them, and when the rpm's are up they really scream.

    While everybody is entitled to modify their car however they like, I find falsely claiming it is something that it clearly is not embarrassing and insulting. This is a very poor example of a charger and Dean should be ashamed of himself for lying to yourself and everybody else about this car.
    This is definitely not an RT charger, glad you took a shot of the compliance plate to help confirm the cars original make-up. It began life on the 17th of October 1973 as a very plain sandstone coloured lower specification VJ charger fitted with the small 215 cubic inch low compression six cylinder hemi engine backed by a 3 speed column shift gearbox. The interior was originally dark saddle and fitted with a bench seat in the front with a laminated windshield and a push button radio. The wheels were plain steel rims fitted with S14*4ply B.S.W tyres. The owner has obviously changed a lot of things, some of which are; replacing the original 6 cylinder motor with a 318 V8 and automatic gearbox, replaced the VJ front panels with those from a VH model, added bonnet pins, added bonnet black-outs, RT stickers, bonnet scoop, stripes, bucket seats and fitted wheels that were not fitted on a Chrysler in Australia are some of the obvious changes.

    This Charger is not a Charger R/T as from factory it's a model VH Valiant Charger 770 that has a some what inaccurate strip job done it. The dash is a 770 dash not an R/T dash and same with the door panels. No Charger R/T's were V8 and Auto and the rims are not factory by any means they are some shitti after market things. In Australia this car would be classed as a rough as guts attempt to make a standard charger look like a charger R/T.
    but failed big time. if you want to see what a Aussie Charger R/T looks like inside and out look them up on the internet. but by no means think this is how they came and looked.

      Hi Lou; firstly your videos are good I am not knocking any of them however in this video about Deans Aussie Charger you asked him the question ( And this is all original ) His Reply was YES. and then went on to say that's it's in need of an other rebuild and so on. Then you asked him about his rims on the car. And Dean replied (yer they were racing wheels) and so on. Look Lou in the interest of just been truthful Mr. Dean was full of it... so to say. You had an awesome section of video showing the body Vin number plate under the Hood showing all of the option codes for that car and this is what the option numbers mean for Deans Chrysler Charger and how it came out of the factory.
      E36..Was a 265 ci 6 CYL Police unit. D10..Was a 3 speed manual Transmission Colum Gearshift. C25 & C59.. are a split Bench set with armrest. G15 was a Laminated windshield. R71 ..was a 13 Transistor Puch Button Radio. T27.. was S14x4 ply B.W.S.Tyres C1.. was the paint and that was Sand stone Beige. 1.. was 6 Cly M.. was for medium in options. 29 ..is a 2 door Coupe. D.. is 1973. J.. is build date month been October.
      The Bull shit racing wheels Dean quotes you in this video are form a 1978 Aussie Ford 2 Door Cobra and were never used on a Chrysler product.
      So in summary it is very much like having a Camaro Berlinetta and telling every one it a very special and rare Z28. with racing bullshit wheels.
      In my Videos on my Channel I have 1977 Cl Charger and it is a Charger 770 and the 770 means the Luxury model however this car is been returned to street trim for been a drag racer for many years it has a 350 HP 318 in it with an additional 150 HP Nitrous oxide system on it. Your welcome to look.

      Roland Keith you are one thousand percent spot on. The e38 rt charger was a 3 speed floor shift with triple side draft Webber carbs. Built for the 1971 Bathurst 500. In 72 they released the e49 with the 4 speed. Hence the 4 in the fender striping. They never produced a v8 rt charger here in Aus. As you stated that was the 770.

      This Charger is a mock up. It's not really bad, but it's just not an R/T. I don't know how or why this car or model ("being" a 770) made it to the U.S. but it would be a nightmare to get the right parts for restoration over there.

    Lots of the trim and mechanical features were shared with Chrysler A-body cars built in the States (Dodge Dart, Plymouth Valiant). The engines were uniquely Australian, but note the same "Chrysler" and "Charger" fonts were used on U.S. models, even though they were different. I think they all used the same TorqueFlite automatic as well. I wonder when these cars went from true hardtops with roll-down rear quarter windows, to coupes with the fixed, swing out window.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi GoJoe283, Not sure why the cars went from true hardtop to fixed swing out, however I can guess there is a cost difference and if it helps cut cost, that might be the answer. Maybe a Viewer can help with this question, Lou

    • @tripsadelica
      @tripsadelica 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The use of the pop-out rear quarter window was purely down to the panel engineering of the car which precluded the roller mechanism being fitted in the panel behind the door. It was easier to go with the pop-out type and really didn't detract from the entire car at all.
      The hemi 6 was developed from the US hemi engine used, I believe, in some Chrysler pick-ups. It was radically redesigned by the engineers in South Australia to become one of the best six cylinder engines in the world at that time. Powerful, frugal on fuel compared to the GM and FOMOCO cars of the time. The very last Valiants and Chargers using the hemi 6 had an electronic lean burn system (ELB) fitted to them which improved starting, fuel economy and idle. It's a real pity that Chrysler pulled out of Australian manufacturing at the time because the next model they had already developed would have sold very well here.

    • @rossbrumby1957
      @rossbrumby1957 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only the Charger had the fixed and pivoting windows, the Valiant and Chrysler 2 doors were true hardtops. I owned a 71 VH 265 col.auto Charger XL back in 86 when I was 17. It had fixed side glass where the 770 had pivoting. It may have been optional on any trim level though. All the auto sixes were borg warner 35 with the exception of police pursuit VJ 265s which had Torqueflite 727s behind.

    • @rossbrumby1957

      Mr Right it wasn't reworked- the hemi 6 is a completely different engine design. Originally designed in the USA as a truck motor but shelved in favour of the v8 which many Americans prefer. Much more power than the slant and much better on fuel at the same time. Shame I'll never afford another Charger.

      It says 770 on the inside door panel,but you could order them the way you wanted practically there was alot of factory options,including a 340ci valiant charger available only in auto trans,so maybe it was requested to have r/t paint im guessing if factory.

    this was a stand-alone chassis this car may be faux but the 72VH to 80CM sat on a new chassis from the Adelaide Sth Australia plant engines 215 ci 245ci 265ci six 265 six pack triple webbers 318ci and 340ci,360 and even a rare 390 V8'various carb options were available the original bodies were sedan and wagon (ranger) sedan wagon, (Regal) an upspec model a long wheelbase Regal. Then there was a coupe which is very rare in good nick only lasted till the VJ and was phased out and the charger and the Dodge Utility like a ranchero. finally the Chrysler by Chrysler saloon a long wheelbase monster with the works closest they came to a lux ride it was usually the one offered with the 360 and 390 V8"s

    Its not an R/T or a 770, originally a very plain low performance brown Australian Charger, this is the sort of car that would make me cringe in Australia, probably even more in the USA where our local MOPAR heritage needs to be better represented, this is cool for Americans to see an Australian Charger body in person but not a good representation of an Australian performance car at all.
    Option codes from plate at 4:53:
    E26 - 215 CU.IN.Engine with 1 BBL.Carburettor (low compression) 6 cylinder
    D10 - 3 Speed Manual Transmission with Steering Column Gearshift
    C25 - Front Centre Seat and Armrest
    G15 - Laminated Windshield-Tinted Gradated
    R77 - Radio (13 Transistor Push Button)
    T27 - F78 S14x4 ply B.S.W. Tyres
    Even as a mock up there is an awful lot wrong with this car. Quiet frankly its an embarrassment.
    All Australian R/T's were 6 cylinders, they challenged 350 Chev and 351 Ford at Australians premier race at the time the "Hardie-Ferodo 500" at Bathurst Australia in the early 1970's in the thick of our muscle car era, locally known simply as "Bathurst" it is our Daytona/Indy rolled into one. in 1973 it became the "Hardie-Ferodo 1000", changing from 500 miles to 1000 kilometres (approx 620 miles), the track is strung over Mount Panorama and is 3.8 miles in length with a 1.25 mile straight known as Conrod straight because of its toll on conrods, that's 500 miles with a flying mile and a quarter every lap poking 155 MPH in glorified street cars in the day, we wanted to know which was the best car to buy on Monday. :) Some did the drive single handed back then too.
    Its a huge deal over here so when someone is representing in USA where our motor heritage originated from it would be nice if it was done right.
    This will give you an ides: www.9news.com.au/national/classic-car-auctions-sales-1972-valiant-rt-charger-bathurst-1000-australian-muscle-vehicle/279ad301-b1a2-493f-8cec-e8edd5e2558d

    Though this particular Aussie Charger is the proverbial bastard child, it seems it's more a 770 Charger (the luxury version) rather than an original R/T which were 265 Cubic Inch 'HEMI' 6's. Apart from many other things that made the Australian racing Charger unique was that Australian GM and Ford production engines were 350 and 351 Cubic Inch V8's.
    Chrysler Australia was very pro local construction and had as many parts built in Australia as possible for its Valiant range of cars which added to those cars uniqueness compared to US built.
    This cars bonnet's black paint outs weren't to factory spec and the 'HEMI 265' decal was missing. Also the hood scoop was non-functional and was dealership fitted.
    I'd love to see the real deal 1972 Aussie built Chrysler Valiant Charger R/T E49 with all its bells and whistles which compared to US built cars of 1972 simply leaves them for dead both in performance and overall racing appearance...but then as an Aussie...I am somewhat biased!

    I believe there are a lot more than 3 Valiant chargers over there in the states. I know there are several Mad Max mock up chargers alone. This guy .... Well as they say if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say it. He either has no idea what so ever or he is one of those sorts that laps up the limelight, for all those valiant lovers pun not intended, and is a pathological liar to make himself look good. I will say that car looks incredibly rough, just the bottom of the driver side door alone looks like its full of cancer and warped like I wouldn't believe, and from the options on the I.D plate, its far from original and has been hacked up. I'd hate to be the one to track down and more than likely import all the replacement panels for it. they had very thin metal and were very prone to rusting. with your winter roads it wouldn't be kind to these little old ladies. They re a brilliant car and always turn heads even over here. Worth a small fortune and out of most peoples price range sadly :(
