On “My Car Story” we're in Rosemont IL at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals on 11-17-16.
We’re looking at a 1971 Plymouth Superbird with a Sunroof and Hemi Engine.
The car's Owners are Gary & Pam Beimke. Gary shares how he received documentation of a prototype 1971 Daytona and he and Pam decided to build one and completed it in 2001 (check that out on TH-cam.com by typing in “ My Car Story With Lou 1971 Daytona ” ). Well when they created this one they decided to create a 1971 Plymouth Superbird too and completed it in 2003.
This car is UNBELIEVABLE, I just love it!

I'm not usually impressed with "whatifmobiles" but this one is well done! The body style really does work with the Superbird treatment.

This was actually going to be a factory built Super Bird in '71 and '72 but when NASCAR banned any size or type of wing and after wind tunnel testing showed that the "Aerodynamic fuselage" shape body was slippery enough to produce and race without the nose and wing. I don't like how high up the front nose cone curves though and if it were me I would have contoured the whole front slightly different with a lower nose. I have thought about converting my '72 but I like it just the way it is!

I once had a '71 GTX and love the body style. I also find the '70 Super Bird to be pretty sweet. This is the best of both worlds. Excellent job on this fine creation. The detail is superb.

Absolutely fantastic car. Kudos to the owners. I remember seeing a new '70 Superbird on a car dealer's lot when they first came out. I remember the sticker price was well into the upper $4,000 range, way beyond my capability at the time (in the navy stationed at Charleston, S.C.) to buy one. I had to settle for driving my stripped down '69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 (that I bought new the year before for $2,600). This was a time of wild color schemes and graphics and wings and spoilers and big block engines with multiple carbs, etc. I thought this era would go on forever and always looked forward to the fall of the year when the new cars came out. But it all soon changed. I remember my disappointment when I read that the '71 Corvette's LS5 engine had now dropped to 8.5 compression ratio and was down to 365 HP from 390 HP. Yes, it was the beginning of the end.

Troy Dennis that’s right. Ford protested the Daytona Charger and the Plymouth Super bird, they threatened to leave NASCAR so NASCAR banned the winged cars with the 426 Hemi for the 71 season but allowed the the winged cars with a small block c.i. I believe a 305 c.i.

A bit late to the party on this , but I love the '71 Plymouth RR/GTX/Satellite styling it is my favourite fuselage car.
The "Superbird" custom add-ons look better than factory grade, and the finish on the dash is a classy touch. The paint colour works really well on this car.
Add to the above some great mods like the 5 speed 'box with hydraulic clutch and four wheel disc brakes to make a dream car for any fan of the muscle car era.
Thank you once again for a great presentation of a unique car and its talented creator.

Memories! I had a '71 which came with the 383 and in that awful brown lol. Commissioned Dunn & Reath ( yep Big Jim) to build a 11.5 1 compression 440 for me and dropped it in my '71 Road Runner which I drove on the streets of SoCal . Oh to have cheap gas and be young again. Of course, I kept the 383 badging on the hood. It took me only 6 hours to get my first ticket while cruising Whittier Blvd with all the other hot rodders. Great looking car Lou and congratulations to the happy couple . Motor on. 👍

Anyways I am building a 71 EV2 Air-grabber road runner. It has Sub-Frame connectors. An eight point chrome Molly roll cage. 14 to 1 440. Indy CNC Ported heads. I am currently in the process of fabricating a set set of equal length Merge

Beautiful. I would also like to see aftermarket companies clone the parts that they had handmade, and that others could enjoy having a 71 Superbird, or Daytona, same with a 70 Superbird and 69 Daytona. I initially hated clone cars but with the price of muscle cars going through the roof they're almost uninsurable so a clone for the average guy is the answer. Great video.

What a cool car - hemi six barrel! While the 1970 superbird was a winged version of a roadrunner, this car was originally a GTX - check out the doorjamb VIN at 5:33. The second digit is S, which is for GTX - the code for the roadrunner was M. Also, the fifth digit is U, which was the code for a 440 4v engine and available for the GTX, but not available for the roadrunner.

I'll have you know that my uncle was a main design man in the making of the superbird. And the superbird was only made in 1970. The car is also my favorite car. But the car you looked at was a 1971 satellite. This car was made to be a more affordable version of the super bird. I don't not mean to sound harsh on any level. But it makes me glad to see someone else have the correct information. Also I would appreciate it if you were to comment back. I am a subscriber. And look forward to your videos. Though this vid was wrong at some points the satellite was still a great vehicle.thank you for your time and effort in the making of this video. I hope we can talk in other videos in the future.

He said name ur price if uve got the title in hand.I started to tell him ten grand just so he'd leave fast but I said nine grand just so I wouldn't be crazy. He said get the title a key's a handed me cash nine grand.I showed my prego wife the money a u know what she said. Haha I drove it on his trailer a he left. Have never seen him or the car since he never even told me his name.I guess the Lord sent him cause the money at the time sure helped. An "Aero package" offered on 1971 Road Runners, possibly only on the 55 Hemi cars : The Air grabber hood (bulge lifts air to the greenhouse sides and the roof), the very rare "High Impact" colors only "visor applique' front bumper upper cover, seen on published ads in late '70, and winter of '71, the rear window "louvers" seen here, (extends side sail panel and roof length), and Plymouth 1970 part # duck tail rear spoiler for AAR 'Cudas. "Boomerang" front spoilers, may or may NOT part of package, as not used on NASCAR tracks in 1971 or 72 seasons. I've seen 2 cars that MAY have been special demo / dealership display orders.
