im using FL Studio inside Ableton. work in both daws until a point where I export all stems from FL to Live. the piano roll with shortcuts in FL I amazing. I love the efficiency in FL for programming beats.
I started in FL and switched over to Ableton relatively recently. The only thing I truly missed about FL was the piano roll. It's finally caught up and I couldn't be happier! The humanize feature is so useful, it's insanely tedious to manually move every single midi note to give it a better feel. So much better to use humanize and move a few notes if needed
For me, V10 was the last worthy upgrade. V11 was really about the release of Push 3. It didn't have any features that were useful for me. Now with V12 being released soon, I feel the same. The £169 (UK) upgrade price is far too expensive for what we are getting. It definitely wasn't worth it for V11 and it most definitely isn't worth it for V12. I really do think Ableton have ran out of ideas. When you compare to the Cubase upgrades, which are half the price of Ableton, and see what you get, Steinberg's price is very reasonable.
same for me I keep looking at these new versions of live but there are no features past the live 10 suite version I have that I would need. it seems like only reason to update if you own there hardware and I own a mpc so im good.
As someone who just focuses on putting vocals on instrumentals/beats, I'm not sure if there is much of a reason to upgrade from 11 to 12 unless anyone else knows of any features I'm missing out on. I'd like to upgrade but does anyone know if they do anything better on 12 with vocal production?
@@WillHatton That's good to hear. 11 had so many performance issues (verified and a former Ableton employee verified them to me, too) but Ableton said sorry "we can't reproduce." So I bought Bitwig as I'm a professional but don't really like it. I'm hoping 12 fixes all the bugs the made me leave Ableton after 12 long years.
Great video! I think Live 12 Suite owner upgrade was on sale for $183 instead of $229. I mean that’s still a chunk of change but I think the features are really nice. Especially the mixer being on the arrangement view. I like the generative stuff for drumming too.
As most people are only going to use a few of the new functions, it is faaaaaaaaar too much. $60-80 would be fair for people who already paid for the Upgrade to 11.
@@Phadddy remember Live 11 has been out for 3 years getting updates. $180 is about $60 per year. If Live 12 gets the same 3 years and you don’t know what else is in store in those 3 years.
I like the changes and I think there will be a few more changes, before it drops next year - improvements. Being an excel nerd, I prefer the Live look and feel over other DAWs and I also like less Window popups, when trying to access different things. I also run dual monitors, so I've always had my mix channels open in session view, above my main monitor. FL has done some cool things in their last releases and keep in mind, those are free updates to existing users, which is awesome. If FL could clean up the interface (and I know, some people love it), I might switch over to the dark side. Cubase 13 has been looking interesting too. Being a Windows user, I don't even bother looking at those other two DAWs, you know who you are. I like the Live ecosystem, but its not a cheap one. I've been a Suite user since 9. Lately it feels like my NI stuff is not interfacing as well in Live, so I may opt for a new Push controller soon.

Howdy Will! The generate is pretty goofy, but really excited to jump into and play none the less. I love the new tab feature for M4L devices, gives a direct option for those really groovy devices made out ther! Overall not the largest update, but I am warming up to it, honestly looking forward to all the piano-roll updates :) Make life a bit easier, ohhh cant forget having the view of both session, and arrangement! IT BANGS! lol

Finally a step closer to a library more usable as in Logic and GB, but I still can’t believe that they didn’t add a drummer plug-in like in GB, where you can just choose style, genre, a pattern and most usefully (in my eyes) just press „follow“ and it plays along the track you choose. If this was included I might have understood the price…. Kind of frustrating
Will Hatton - You made many of the new features in 12 EASY to understand. Suggest everyone use this tutorial in real time. Don't try to memorize what Will said - that never works! When Will demonstrates a new feature, you should then do it immediately in Live 12 in real time. I think moving the BPM to the left, of the screen is a silly move. Sure it works but why retrain our brains for something that worked very well as it was? Is this and all the other features worth 189 for me to upgrade? I doubt it. This really feels like version 11 1/2.
Totally agree with what you said at the bottom there, a lot of this stuff is muscle memory and it does feel like turning the cogs ever so slowly to get back up to speed at where you were at in Live 11. BUT I love to be proven wrong, so maybe I’ll change my opinion when the official launch comes and I’m 6 months in! Thanks so much for the kind words, I’m glad it was easy to digest!
Hey mate. In Live 11 I was able to automate audio clips in the session view. What I mean is I can lower or raise and mute the gain by selecting clip. I don’t see that function in Live 12. How can I enable that? Would appreciate your help. 🙏
So...if I basically only use Live for playing and recording the ocassional MIDI keyboard improv session (usually with Analog Lab or Surge XT, and then to play around with arps and sounds and maybe eventually make some sort of track out of it, but dont really use any sort of "theory" functions (apart from like experimenting with filters and effects more than deliberately applying them to get a certain result), am I correct to assume there is no real need for me to upgrade to Live 12 at the moment? Even if the Live 12 Lite version is offered to me for free? Like, is there any performance improvements in Live 12 that Live 11 does not have?
Great video Will, :) I am having issues trying to work out how to save tracks to the library. On Live 11 if I wanted to save a track that I had made then all I had to do was to drag it left and save it in a library. When I try to do it on Live 12 Suite I get an explanation mark to say that move isn't possible. This is something I cannot get my head around, please help if anyone can?

But if you''ve already used and bought lots of Max Devices with Ableton 11 , the upgrade price seems too steep . I hope they offer more and more about mixing solutions ( auto compensate gain in track channe like Volume Buddy) , one click wizard to setup parallel processing, more return track , native unmask freq tool etc
They are screwing a lot of users by making the minimum requirements BigSur or above. I’m running a 12core mac pro on Mojave because it runs native intel code instead of Rosetta. Apple keeps breaking shit with all new OS releases and I’m not breaking my tuned workstation to upgrade to Live12 because they chose the shiny new thing of M series processors. You don’t need to keep updating Unix operating systems every year which just bloats things.

I stopped using Live 11 suite yesterday because I think they are using planned obsolescence with their updates. Since 12 went up, updates have been coming out more than ever, which crashes the software. Yesterday, I was working on a big track. Out of nowhere, everything just froze up or just crawled. I was working with JUST audio files for the first phase. I am now unable to export any audio individually, by channel, or save as a who project without the program crashing and closing. I'm back on FL now. I feel that if I paid the 230 to update, all problems will go away, but there is not much I am looking forward to in the new update.
I would not understand why a user of Live would not upgrade sooner or later to Live 12. Considering that the upgrade price is low as Ableton is not making new Live versions every year, and that they did not instore a fanboy yearly tax... oops sorry I wanted to say: a Bitwig Studio Upgrade plan to pay every 12 months. There are really considerable improvements in this version that are worth the upgrade, word of a Beta tester.
The piano roll still STINKS. The look sucks, the useability sucks. Considering how much midi work is done these days, and drum replacement, if they haven't improved that part of things, they are clowns. I will keep looking around elsewhere.

I am still using ableton 10. is ableton 11 stable now? last time i check it. it was using too much resources
11 here. CPU usage is really bad. It's allarming when you have multiple izotopes slates pluhin on. Unusable. I switched back to Studio one.
DEFINITELY not stable for many Windows users.
