I bought Standard for what I want to do it’s perfect. I’m doing DJ mixes within Abelton. I do plan to create some small beats and my own samples and such but as of right now I’m still learning it.
I started with a free version bundled with some controller I bought, upgraded to standard and kept using it for a few years. I only upgraded last year to Suite, because by then I already knew the software quite well and knew that Live would remain my DAW of choice. A plus was the fact that the total cost was spread over a few years.
It is possible to upgrade from standard to suite? How much does it cost? Here in Germany on an second hand website there is n offer for 400 euro for the suite full version and 150 euro for the standard full version. I think 150 euro is a good price when there is a posibility to upgrade.
@@thomaskreisel5764 It is definitely possible. I am not certain about the cost, but if you log into your Ableton account and check the upgrade options, it should display the price. If you do manage to find out, could you kindly share it here to help others? Thank you.
@@pushpatterns I bought the ableton 12 standard version from a guy for 150 euros. You can upgrade from a lower to a higher version and also from lite to standard and to suite. Its all possible! 👍
I'm new to music production but I really enjoy it and ableton seems like a very well rounded software (I've used some free stuff but now I wanna get more serious about it and I'm looking for a long term solution). I wanna use student's discount which only works for initial purchases, not for upgrades tho. I don't really know if suite is necessary or if standard or even intro will last me a good amount of time. It's risky to buy suite without proper knowledge about ableton. It could save me a lot of money in the long run or it could be a massive waste of money... Should I instantly get suite with the discount or should I play it safe and get intro first and upgrade down the line? What do you think?
I would go for standard, it’s very good price for what you get. And although you don’t get the discount on upgrades if you did want to upgrade in the future it doesn’t feel as bad you have spread the cost
I had a thought. I can take advantage of the student/teacher discount, so getting Suite for $299 USD is certainly appealing (even if I don't know whether or not I need the extra Suite features yet). However, when Live 13 eventually comes out, the cost to upgrade to the 13 Suite would be huge as opposed to the scenario where I upgrade from 12 Standard to 13 Standard. And so even though Suite is only $125 more right now, I wonder if that would bankrupt me in the long term due to the upgrade price. I don't know if I'm thinking ahead too far, but at the same time I don't want to spend 100s of unnecessary dollars (in the long run) on maintaining Suite if I don't need the features. And I don't actually know if I need them (for context, I have a few years of casual experience in Ableton 11 Intro, but I want to use a range of guitar sounds that I currently don't have access to). So much to think about
Good question. You would have to be employed but a school, collage or university. But it’s always worth emailing Ableton and seeing if they could give you the discount? 😊
How long would you think it would take me to learn the software and get into the point of adding simple beats to songs? (I am already familiar with most things music like mixing, etc)
@@pushpatterns 2-3 tracks for spoken word. Maybe single chapters have to be placed on different tracks. In this case I would need up to 20 tracks from UA. depending on the length of the book. Sounds and music will be added later by a colleague. I own only 2 plugins
I am still very tempted to getting Push 3 Standalone. To only play it without a laptop and no other gear for a while. If I get intro with it , am I missing out on a lot by not getting Suite ? And if I get intro , can I get suite at a discounted price or how does that work? I couldn’t find that answer in their site.
Hey, The only real impact I think that you will feel is the lack of instruments, other than thats the limitations that you would feel in Live I don't think would effect you that much on the Push 3. And yes you can upgarde at a later date at a upgrade price.
They've given you a pretty big middle finger then, since you technically could get suite for free with all the features with less than 5 minutes of effort. I don't condone it tho, but it's the reality. Paying customers get f'ed while someone else could get what you're not getting for free with minimal effort.
I want to edit my violin cover. Do some reverb and stuff. reduce some noise and make it more like inside a hall. Is ableton 12 INTRO more than enough already or do i need the standard? Highly appreciated for a helpful reply. 😊
Yes and No lol they track count and DAW functionality Intro can handle but all the plugins you mention would not be available as stock plugins in Intro. But you can use 3rd party plugins in Live, you can get some really good plugins free or cheap.

It depends. If you're using a lot of samples, audio effects, and instruments that are in the suite package and not standard, then you won't have all the available resources.
2 months later and Intro is USD 99, Standard is USD 439, and the Suite is USD 749... what is going on with Ableton!?!? I use Cuebase and it does everything I need. I don't understand why Ableton is getting so expensive. Cuebase was similar in price... now they are the same or cheaper... 99, 329, $579.99. I got a USB interface and it came with for free. It doesn't side chain compress which is a bummer, but if you are learning OR good enough, you can manually do it.

It's simple. Ableton is way too expensive for what it does compared to the competition. So you pirate the heck out of it until you actually make money. These are the basic rules of music production: You pirate and then you pay back.
You can get cheaper version of ableton Live than most of the DAWs you have mentioned. Also what’s good about this is it gives you the option to upgrade at a later date, spreading the cost of the software over time.
