Kitchen plans are not to be trusted. I am constantly reviewing layouts from kitchen cabinet manufacturers for Homeowners that lack a basic understanding of the design requirements of actually cooking, moving around and living in your kitchen! If you don't read plans for a living, you might miss one of the biggest mistakes, not enough room for the kitchen island!
There are problems with layouts, clearances for appliances and enough space to be able to work at an island and have seating too. It's an easy fix if you catch the mistakes in the design planning stages and a lifetime of regret, and squeezing through, if you don't!

Forgive me if you've already cover this, how far apart should the lightning above kitchen island be? How far in from edge of island? You're truly the best home designer in this TH-cam world. Very easy to understand.

Depends on the island size and the pendant size. For example, on a 7’ island with 2 large pendants (maybe 12” diameter) I’d have the pendants about 30” ish apart, which would put them around 18” + in from the edge. Think of where you will stand and do you want to hit your head!

A great resource for layout is your local Ikea if there's one near you. They have 10 or more model kitchens and if you take a tape measure and a pad/pencil you can get a great feel for heights, clearances, layout of sink/stove/refrigerator and you can walk around it and see if that particular layout works. Super helpful.

A quick query, for a 16’*16’, square kitchen with C shaped cabinets.
a) Is a 5’*4’ island too much? intention is to place a 2nd sink on it with a lil work space.
b) How many panel lights do you recommend for this kitchen and what wattage?
