I have an even different issue with my first gen iPhone SE that I use as a back up phone: its battery percentage drops from 40 all the way to 1 immediately and then lasts for up to 3 hours on that remaining 1%. When I charge the phone, the battery drains very quickly, but it takes actually quite a lot longer until it shuts down. I don't think the battery is the only issue here, it just can't calculate the remaining charge anymore

The bigger problem is that iPhones have tiny battery's in the first place and they are really good optimised for low power consumption when the screen is off, with flight mode enabled, etc. Other phones don't have that problem because they have much bigger battery's so it doesn't matter if the signal is weak or if you turn up your displays brightness to max.

Best way to preserve battery capacity is just avoid heat at all costs. that means no playing video games on it, no intensive workload on your phone, no direct sun, and don't use max brightness. Additionally, I suggest never letting your battery drop below 20-40%.
P.S. One tip to save battery can be to turn on 'Reduce White Point'. Also, don't worry about over-charging, your phone is smart enough to never over-charge.
EDIT: If battery preservation isn't your main concern when using your phone, then just use your phone however you like! This guide is only for those who really want their phone (and battery) to last as long as possible and extend their phone's lifespan!

"no playing video games, no intensive workload, no max brightness"
so not using your phone?? There are people who need their phone for this. It's unthinkable that Apple is so incompetent and lazy that I can't play a game for 3 minutes that the brightness comes down due to heat and I can't see shit.
This never happens on my android phone, it is always stable and lets me do everything I need to do at all times. Meanwhile my iPad is limiting me extremely due to so many reasons I can't even list here.
I know that fanboy-ism is annoying but here I'm not even fanboying for a company, I'm just saying the facts that happen when I use my devices and they clearly show the inferiority of Apple.

@@leothehuman_9476 This is for all phones, not only apple. While there is no problem using your phone for intensive tasks performance-wise, but all phones will overheat from intensive usage.
Overheating is present in all phones, not only Apple. This overheating leads to degradation of your battery.
Although it's true that Apple is a bit controlling regarding the dimming of the brightness upon overheating, Android phones do also overheat, but they are more flexible and they will not alter your screen brightness settings at all.
I guess for you as a consumer, battery life degradation isn't of a concern for you and you prefer to have more control and flexibility regarding the settings of your phone, thus Android suits your needs more.

Well, I replaced an old iphone for a Huawei P30 Pro 3.5 years ago and it's the best phone with battery life I've ever had! In the worst case scenario, it can last about two full days, whilst in the best case scneario, it can last 5 days! Battery has been holding up since then and there's no feel of battery degradation yet. Phone is very reliable and I'll be replacing it maybe when it has reached 6 years of use. I hope that by then, iPhone batteries will be as reliable as my current phone.

Its really incosistent, yesterday I got 8.5h screen on time, was editing videos on capcut for 3 hours and lost only 35% without heat and today I was streaming deezer and it was heating up and watching youtube and I lost 19% in hour and a half, is there someting wrong with my unit? Update, its been backing up, resetting and now downloading backup, lost 7% in the past 25 min doing all the heavy tasks and the heat was worse when only deezer was playing with screen off, I think deezer might be the issue here, streaming music shouldnt be so cpu heavy as backing up and downloading and installing 15 apps at the same time
