This skit so easily could have failed but it strikes the perfect balance between John Mulaney deadpan standup and ‘that’s just how monkeys are’
This was terrible.

Yeah, they could’ve really thrown a real monkey-wrench into it.
The specific behavioral details were great, but this is an ape (chimpanzee), not a monkey. Chimp Judge or Ape Judge would have been just as funny as a title, and more accurate. But massive props for a very funny and weird sketch. I love the please don't destroy guys.
Its the specificity that pushed it over the top. Broad humor is... silly and shows no appreciation for the finer points... like shredded paper piles and monkey sign language.
Love animals. So I really enjoyed this.. the 'monkey behavior humor' was funny as hell I thought.

As a monkey, I really commend the writers for not making any reference to throwing feces. We in the monkey community are very tired of that stereotype.

You really should switch it up with "I recognize the shape in the blue and the grey" and occasionally throw sand at them to assert dominance.
You're not a proper dad if you don't irritate your kids with dad jokes.
I do the same thing with my gf but a different snl sketch. Whenever she asks me to go get something, I saunter off slowing singing "Doctorrr. Reginald. Saundersss..."

and as someone who works in Amerikkka's courts, I can attest THIS IS ABOUT ALL JUDGES IRL.
They are all idiot liar morons, appointed by your Mayor Giulianis and your President Trumps.
Even the Declaration of Independence and Constitution say JUDGE = CRIMINAL.....but no one read them!

That's ironic because this is one of the more obvious and direct rips of a prior skit I've seen SNL do.

This makes me even more sad that Phil Hartman was taken from us too soon, because I would have loved to see a crossover between Judge Tango & Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer. Clash of the titans right there.

I think the thing that makes this skit so funny is that the monkey jokes are based on real monkey behavior beyond "lol monkeys throw poop and eat bananas!"
Much like Beck's Baby Boss skits.
I truly believe that John Mulaney is *the* only person that could have made this sketch work
I believe Josh Server from All That could also have pulled it off.

This was a role to get her some lines, but they weren’t delivered well and anyone could have filled that role.
Keenan, John, & Cecily were the scene. Melissa & the court cop were… 🤷♂️

@@P__114- I wouldn’t say that she was terrible, I just don’t think that she added anything to this scene. Frequently she didn’t add to a sketch. (She was better doing a character on Weekend Update.)
I feel like the writers never figured out how to make her a positive contribution to a sketch and/or she never figured out how to take a small part and run with it and that’s why she’s now leaving the show.

I heard it as "one-many" ... as in he can't count except "one" -> "many".
I watched again. It's definitely "one-many". He gestures it with his hand.

I complimented a very funny sketch and made a tongue-in-cheek comment about the narrative surrounding SNL. To be clear, I check out most of current SNL on TH-cam. I don't find most of the sketches to be particularly funny. Your comment reveals that you probably get a kick, for whatever reason, out of blowing other peoples' internet comments way out of proportion. "This is why the world sucks???" Jesus, man. I don't know what else to say. Get a grip, for starters?
@@danielrasmussen2167 They blew it WAY out of proportion at the end😬 but I could also assume they're someone just frustrated with people watching and commenting negatively instead just letting things be when they clearly don't like something, after an extended period of time(I think it's pretty obnoxious too). It's hard to read "tongue-in-cheek" in dryly written online comments, so it was hard to know if it's a "joke" about the narrative or just contributing to the narrative. Especially when you clarify that you don't enjoy "most" of the sketches. There are hundreds of them and everyone has a different sense of humor, and there are those who think bc they don't find "the majority" funny, and others (and there are plenty) do, they're objectively bad and the other people are dumb. NOT SAYING THAT'S WHAT *YOU* SAID but it's easy to make assumptions like that when people go out of their way to give *backhanded* compliments. Do what you want but people can always make assumptions from impersonal online writing. I'm sure I'll get some aimed at me for my comment but luckily I don't care lol

Mulaney has always said Caveman Lawyer was his all time favorite sketch, this really feels like a spiritual sequel/tribute to it, and I’m here for it.

Honestly one of my favorite sketches ever. Of all SNL history. The concept, the acting, the writing, it was all perfect. Idk who else other than John Mulaney could have pulled this character off this well. That entire sketch was just perfectly understated. They didn't make it all campy, and it was even funnier for it!!

I just finished a week of jury duty and was mentally spent in the process, this is exactly what I needed. Strong cast work and Mulaney shines here.
