Good morning, everyone. I'm team pool! 😁 Now read me out...., I'm a gardener in Louisiana. It gets HOT, and HUMIDITY is ridiculous here. With that stated, it is so nice to be able to jump into the pool right afterward. I know y'all pack up and head towards your parents, but there is nothing like doing it at your own home, at any time. It's your own privacy, your own comfort, because it's yours. Your kids and you and Aaron will LOVE IT. It doesn't mean you can't still have a pool get-together at your parents. I know my two cents doesn't matter, but from gardener to gardener, I thought I would share how refreshing it is to jump in, sometimes with my gardening clothes on😂😂.

I think because her parents r SO close, combined with their excellent relationship. Laura probably likes the "excuse" to go over there to swim. I bet her parents love the fact of them utilizing the pool also. Deep down, Laura may feel like getting her own pool would disappoint her parents. . . . Imo
A splash pad for the kids would be a good option for their own homestead. Again, Imo. 😊

Same for me here in Florida! I have to drop into the pool throughout my gardening time. My summer “uniform” for days at home is a swimsuit with a skort so all I do is pull off the skort and step into the water for a cooldown. Nice!

I loved the back and forth between you guys when talking about a swimming pool!
I will say this about pools. When your kids get a bit older and want to hang out with their friends, if you have a pool your house is where they will all want to be.
Having your kids and their friends at your house is nice as you know what is going on and get a chance to meet and know the kids they are hanging out with.
Build the pool. Watching a yard full of your kids and their friends is a wonderful way to grow older

I will agree 💯. You know where your kids are and who they hang with. I absolutely loved it. If you worry about liability, just put a sing no diving. We just told the kids and it was fine. We live in the country so no fence needed. We had a deck and fencing around it so no one could just go there without being seen.

Washing towels, kids in and out of the house all the time, feeding half a dozen kids all summer. I raise four boys and my house was the fun house with the pool, motorcycle, side by side and horses. I’m now enjoying our pool. The boys are grown and the house is quiet. I did enjoy the busy summers, with my boys and their friends. I still see the boys we raised during the summer break. They still tell me how much fun they had, and will reminisce with me.

Hey here's a thought how about instead of a pool pool maybe add a swimming section in the pond/dream stream a a swimming hole would blend into the design and since the kids are accustomed to the pond and know rules maybe that would carry over to the swimming hole instead of the new interest in a pool and u fill both more water features added to your stunning waterway and and a swimming place big enough to do so .just a thought

Laura you and Aaron and all your family, have been inspirational to watch🥰 We have never been able to garden on our 1/3 acre city lot with all our trees. My dream has been a sunny flat productive garden and I have lived it vicariously through you all……..until COVID when we needed to flee, we decided to go to a “dude ranch” to escape. I did not want to look like a city slicker and know nothing about riding horses, so three years ago we started lessons 30 mins away down in the country and fell in love with horses, and the country living, as well as the people! So we bought two horses and began looking for our country home! We bought 18 acres close to our cowboy horse trainer and now we are going to develop our home site.
Watching you all, has given us a roadmap for developing our home. Infrastructure moved to the top of the list watching all your videos. Thank you for all the inspiration and knowledge, we don’t have as many years as you do to wait for things to grow, so seeing you bring in the mature trees as well has inspired us to go for a blank slate💚Someday our horses will live with us, but being new to all of this is gives me great peace knowing they have a trained eye observing them when we are not there. Think about letting Bethany keep your horses and start that bond now, when a great horse comes along your facility may not be ready yet, and that’s what happened in our case. I can’t imagine not having our girls now🐴,they are amazing beasts and the joy they have brought to my husband and I is immeasurable. I couldn’t believe it when you started thinking horses, since we had started that as well, but now you are starting sourdough too😳I swear the creativeness and hard work of being in the country, gardening and horses, leads us back to the right way to do things….once your start making sourdough bread you are never going to waste your palate on store bought junk again! Thanks again for all your inspiration you all have been a blessing and a beacon light for our journey🙏🏻💪🏼

I'm team Let the Grandparents Have the Pool. I'm sure it makes for a wonderful family time and memories every time they go over there. If they had their own, the frequency of visits (and play with the cousins) would probably drop dramatically. It's not far at all, there's no concern about anyone having an accident unsupervised, and there's absolutely no maintenance.

    • @coloraturaElise
      @coloraturaElise หลายเดือนก่อน

Right, I was thinking this same thing; it's a special thing for everyone to go to the grandparents' house....all the surrounding family meets there, and it's so close, just 10 minutes away. As a FL pool owner, I would opt for that, because a pool has a LOT of maintenance and cost, more than people realize. BUT....since you are getting the dream stream with waterfalls, a natural rec pond could be added on to that. They look natural and are great for swimming....no chlorine! Something to consider.

Good morning. I only have a clover lawn as I live in a rain forest and that means lots of rain. I also do it because lawn in general has never thrived for me. In the fall it would always revert back to mud. So for me it has been a pleasure having the clover as well as I have thrown in a packet of wild flower seeds to grow in with the clover. I have not mowed this season and it just looks like a lush meadow. The clover that I have planted/sown does not produce a lot of white flowers or maybe it will be next year. Enjoy your videos and have learned a lot from both you and Aaron.

Thanks for all you do to teach us all and let us live vicariously through all your awesome projects. One thing that seriously helped me with my sourdough journey was to get a proofer - helps you really maintain correct temperature thereby controlling the process timing. 33:12 I think the term is SPLASH LINE or "string rock" which is simply a fishing line with a rock on one end. The rock is the anchor to hold the line in place on the top level and the water follows the string into the lower basin to reduce splashing. I get that Laura wants to direct water but I think this could help. There's a video on YT by Angelo Decor titled "Using Splash Line to Curb Splashing." I hope this is what you've been looking for. Searching Amazon doesn't work for either term, but it would be easy enough to make yourself, and the video would probably go viral! You could measure the amount of string needed and put a rock on both ends to keep it in place.

If you cant find splash lines for your fountain you can use a river rock with string tied on it (or maybe fishing line?). The string has to be long enough to touch the water. Larger ones are called rain chains. Used more for gutters. Hope this helps! I love watching your videos and always learn something new! 🌿

I have an old photo from the early 1930's of my grandparents home. There's a younger oak tree on the right, and it looks like the trunk was about 9" thick, maybe a foot. By the time I was a kid living with them for a few years, the trunk was easily a yard thick, with branches 14+" reaching over the spine of the roof. I loved seeing the change from the old photo to the current times.

One thing a lot of people don’t consider about sod is how important prepping is. The drag is important to remove rocks, and for leveling and, or smoothing, but what’s also really important is soil should be nice and moist, before laying sod, then drum rolling the soil flat and firm.
I’m not sure what the drum is called, but it’s a big drum with handles on it like a lawnmower, and you add water into it for weight to press down the soil. You can rent them. Then once the sod has been laid it needs rolled to aid sod’s firm contact with soil.
Lastly, the worst time to install sod is now. But you still can if you make sure it’s kept watered! It shouldn’t have an issue if you are on top of that.
I learned when the laid sod looks dark in spots, it means, “it needs water.”
Keep some sprinklers out there, because the automatic water is on timers, and you’ll need additional watering. Believe me.

Regarding your “drag” I think the phrase you’re looking for is harrowing 😂 it’s usually done (well in the U.K.) with a chain harrow which looks like someone has knitted a square using lengths of steel instead of wool 😂. One side of the harrow has spikes and that side is usually used first to break up the lumps of soil and to kind of fluff up the loose soil then you flip the chain harrow over and use the “flat” side with no spikes to make the surface even. I hope this makes sense! 😊❤️

Maybe it's easy for Laura to gather the kids and go to her parents, but Aaron might not be able to go as often as he'd like. Laura wants a Marshy pond, not the best for Aaron to swim in. And no matter how lovely Laura's parents are, it's not Aaron's own home.

The kind of swimming pool I'd like is the natural kind...It's like swimming in a very clean pond. The water is pumped through an area that is planted with water loving plants such as iris, certain grasses, lotus, pickerel and others. The plants filter the water. There is no need for chemicals in this pond other than occasionally fertilizing the plants.

I totally feel Laura on the pool thing. I grew up with pools. They are so much work and yes us kids were tasked with vacuuming and skimming. Doesn’t sound like much but you would be amazed at the amount of Debris a pool collects. I know, they have some pretty amazing things to keep pools clean now. Robots that traverse the bottom of the pool. I still would hesitate to agree to have a pool in my back yard. You have the pond you can dip into, unless you want to swim laps I don’t see the point of a pool now.

I have a question about my supertunias, they were flourishing at one point ( mind you I had vistas and bubblegum) and now they are either wilting or look fragile with no flowers. I fertilize them weekly with the proven winners ferlizer. I’m thinking overwatering? Some are in mulch too. I’m in New Jersey and we do get rainy then dry at times. Also, my thoughts about moving? Just buy another home not too far away like a vacation home and go back and forth. Maybe put a pool there. My dream home is a log cabin where I can go especially when it snows and for holidays!

Fountain suggestion: You can shove some aquarium filter foam or floss into the watering can spout where the water comes out, that will slow down the flow and it will filter out some of the calcium in your water so you don't get a build up on the cement so quickly. You can just cut the aquarium filter foam/floss to size.
