Bananas on a sail boat is bad luck, in the old days they would never allow them on a passage. Today it is thought because bananas go bad so fast they make everything else rot. The old saying about apples is big time here for bananas and sailing. Also the the hammock is the way to go too.

Congratulations on a tough passage on a small boat. I've sailed to Bermuda twice and I know how rough it can get. I appreciate how you are proving that you don't have to have a 50' boat to make serious bluewater passages. Last time in Bermuda I was asked by others in the anchorage how I managed on my "small boat" (a 38' Island Packet of 26,000 lbs displacement). They thought that I was too small and must have gotten beat up on the passage from the Bahamas. Fair winds and following seas to you sir!

While it might be a minor annoyance for autopilot issues, both species of the holopelagic Sargassum you are encountering are vital ecosystems that offer food and protection for many marine species, including baby and juvenile sea turtles that hatch from the east coast of the United States.

Great video, as always!. Bermuda is my favorite place in the world. Sailed there 21 times (so far). I noticed you made your passage with an anchor on the bow. I know it wasn't the big one, but it is weight pretty far forward, and if it came loose could ding things up. I always like to put them down low amidships (sometimes in the bilge) during a passage.

Your channel is amazing! Not a first time viewer, but as a sailor myself, and having seen many of your videos, I am dying to know more about your wooden "toe rail." It's the long skinny thin wood strip that goes around the base of your stanchions, and is tied together with u bolts, or so it seems. Tried to find which episode you made it, but more importantly not how was it made, but what is its' main purpose? It seems like a nice barrier to keep things from bouncing overboard, or to mount things to, such as maybe your spinnaker pole or line grabber, or whatnot...Or, maybe it tightens up the stanchions to make the whole lifeline system more secure, or all of the above? I would also be curious about what kind of wood it is, because it doesn't look finished with anything. I am an avid diy'er and I love seeing other peoples ideas when it comes to boats especially when it involves practicality and saving money :)

I was watching your progress on Garmin link on your way to the Azores, and I got nervous when your elevation came up at -32, and more.

Hi Sam! I used to watch your videos when you had a bag for your stomach. I can see you’ve had it removed and have gained some weight. To be honest, I didn’t recognize you at first but the same voice for sure. I’m so happy to see you are doing well and in better health. God bless you for your beautiful sailing videos. You are an inspiration.

I just impulsively brought a sailboat to work on while my skoolie is getting fixed. I've never sailed and didn't plan to any time soon but after watching this. I'll definitely be hiring someone to sail with me...so much to learn 😉

Agree. I'd never thought about taking along multiple instruments... Nice!
Hummmm, maybe a recording studio next?

When you see that sargasso you gotta put out a line... the dorado hang out in the shade under those clumps.
