It was crazy for many of us to learn only in later videos that he had an ostmy bag bcs he never once complained or mentioned it. I’m an early sub, back at under 20k or so but it’s really nice to see how successful this channel has become. It proves that:
    A) You don’t have to have a sexy bikini babe to get views, and
    B) Sailing is accessible to us regular folks too. You don’t have to have a $600k catamaran or a fully decked-out 40’ monohull to do this. Cape Dory makes a very capable boat under 30’ as Sam is proving.
Best wishes for continued success and many more subs!!

The man is the patron saint of all small boat sailors. He and Roger Taylor are like seafaring monastics and when you run across them at sea, it's like having an Albatross land aboard your boat. I get a certain level of anxiety when I see the super polished boats and the fixes that seem almost too good to be true and then I see Sam and the Pickled Herring and it's a beautiful boat AND Sam just uses his common sense and makes it work! I love when he just took his drill to screw down the wooden fan blades to keep them in place. Great art work on the sea wall Sam. To help with filter removal for oil changes find either a small 1" or so wide leather belt with a loop on the end. Wrap the belt around the filter and then pull back against the loop so you can easily rotate the filter off counter clockwise. It also works if you have a scrap of leather or oil resistant rubber and some rope - again put the grip material on the filter and put the rope with a choke loop on it and then pull on it CCW. Another great Sam Holmes adventure in the beautiful Azores! That country is amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Great Content by the way, hopefully in a few years I'll be out there.

You are very talented! Sailor, musician, painter, mechanic, builder... and probably other skills as well.

So happy for you Sam! I love watching your adventures. It always puts a smile on my face that you are seeing the world on your own terms, and I smiled when you went out to dinner then made a humble comment about spending money. I sent you $50 to enjoy a wonderful meal out ...you deserve it and it brings me great pleasure to treat you. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Your video skills and choice of music has gotten awesome. Fair winds !

Oh the memories :) The Azores have a very special place in my heart. Flores was the very first island I've set foot on after a rather exhausting crossing from Port Hawkesbury in Canada. I'll never forget the intense smell of thousands of flowers, after being denied the approach by a strong wind on the nose for an entire day.

I saw a boat once that had a fish cleaning table attached between rigging and lifelines that hung out over the side of the boat to keep the mess down. Might be worth trying if you plan to have more fish.

Sam, you are a blast to watch. Something about the minimalistic way you do your videos is ....just right. Sometimes less is much more.

4:00 I loved the Sao Jorge Island Cheese. Back in 1992, the Azores had no Pasteurization so they made wonderful cheese from all the milk they produce on the Islands.
7:52 That's the Old Whaling Facility for butchering whales. Drag them to shore, up the ramp, disassemble and render. Even back in 1992 they didn't advertise or celebrate their whaling history.

Normal people stopped advertising whaling industry a very long time ago. Whaling occured all around the Pacific, artifacts remain and are pointed out and labelled but its not something to advertise profusely!
