Narcissism “Conspiracy”: Historical Roots of Contemporary Narcissism Pandemic

  • In stark contrast to Medieval Man, the Renaissance Man was a narcissistic, albeit gifted and multi-talented amateur, in pursuit of worldly fame and rewards - a throwback to earlier times (Ancient Greece, Republican Rome). Thus, the Renaissance was both reactionary and modernist, looking forward by looking back, committed to a utopian "new human type" by regressing and harking back to the past's "ideal humanity".
In the 20th century, Romanticism, a 19th century malignant mutation of Renaissance humanism and its emphasis on the individual, provoked the counter-movements of Fascism, Communism, and Nazism.

From the description: "Talkativity (hyper-verbalizing), hyperreflexivity (pseudo-psychosis) and HYPERACTIVITY followed by a period of subdued, slow motion, hesitant reactivity."
Also, BPD and NPD are prone to switching owing to splitting and self-splitting defenses (previous self-state all bad while new self-state all bad).

I’m working on DDD (Decentralised Direct Democracy) ass an alternative to current systems, with an entrepreneurial approach of creating a democracy product rather than an ideology. Complex and now I need to truly understand your perspective on this so will be watching your interview on it. In any case, serious change is needed.

Mr. Vaknin, Could memes play a role in understanding the ridiculousness of the narcissist’s wounded inner child? Traumatised by a truth of some sort during those formative years? Could meme pose a substitute for a form of narcissistic mortification? which doesn’t actually effect the narcissist in real time?( perhaps somehow if the person - likely a public figure- knows of the meme) As I understand it, through comedy as a form of devaluating him/her one could imagine him as the child because he reverts to his childhood mechanisms until he rebuilds his false self/shared fantasy/ pathological narcissistic space? Thank you for today’s video.

any thoughts on when they owe you money, after you were discarded and respond with no contact? Wait for the love bombing, remind them of the debt, get paid then be done with them????? I'm thinking wait through at least 3 hoover attempts, then slowly and carefully give them just enough supply? Step mother holds a promised inheritance from my deceased father...

We need to direct narcissism in the direction of moral superiority and work ethic superiority. Maybe also long term relation skill superiority to tie the first two together, although it is largely a byproduct of them anyways.

The first two do not need to go hand in hand with long term relation skills except with their own superiors. Many narcissists (especially in hyper-capitalist societies) hide behind their "work ethic superiority" to use a cudgel to abuse and demoralize others, especially other workers, and leverage it as a means to seize power. Moral superiority and work ethic superiority ends up manifesting as sublimated aggression. In my own experience, the "Workhalic Narcissist" actually tends to be more malignant than his more "normal" counterpart.
