Yes as a sensitive person myself I realised that its a trauma response, its about control, it's also crossing other peoples energetic boundaries in order to mould myself to be seen as harmless, detect threats etc. When it is pathogenic it can be self destructive. It also disempowers the people around me if not kept in check. Without the sensitivity there is no feeling at all in alot of situations (feels psychopathic). I was raised by a borderline/adhd/narcisstic mother. I also present with ADD. My step father abused me in every way for many years. He was a Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde type. I've been going for all types of therapy for years and yes I'm into healing modalities and being the best version of myself but make no mistake I know there are things about me hidden to myself. I'm a hypocrite. I just don't want to be like them...I have come a long long way.
your whole comment reads like something a narcissist would write, the fact you needed to show everyone how abused you were is quite evident that the "healing" process doesn't seem to work, you still need that self gratification from people liking your comment to prove to yourself that you have an important place among others and feel empowered, you're still covertly signalling to maintain a semblance of control, maybe try to focus on why you felt the need to tell this sob story (i believe you when you said all this by the way, but its still a sob story) because if you were in fact healing you wouldn't feel the need to perform this theatric display of victimhood and go into all this detail about having ADD and all that, just a making a blunt observation.
i say this because given the premise of your question related to trauma responses, you could have written that you were abused but the thing that sparked my comment were all the extra embellishments to give a more colorful story of the abuse and to signal what a victim you are (of course you are a victim, but engaging in these tactics only reinforces your narcissistic self delusions).

After watching this video, I have to pose the question, who among us is normal? What is normal? I see attributes of what Sam is talking about in most of the people I know. What does this say? What does this mean? I would very much love to hear a video concerning what is a normal functioning human being. I am questioning how many are left in the world.
This is a question I have been pondering for some time. If the whole society were psychopaths, wouldn't that be the norm then? So, how do we objectively say what is normal and what is abnormal/pathological? I have some ideas, but I am still unsure. Have you thought about this? Care to have a discussion?
@@H.Hardrada Yes, I think about this quite a bit. Currently, my thoughts align with developing ways to think in a radically different way than I normally do. It is an enormous shift. Yes, I would enjoy discussing further.

Dear Sam, all your lectures are very interesting, insightful, helpful and I watch them daily. In some cases you mention (highly) gifted people (and I know you are one of them). I hope you can dedicate a video to this in relation to the various PD's, as it has many interfaces, I have learned. Therefore, I would love to hear you talk about this subject. (Pls don't say search the channel... cause I did😅). With love, from a highly gifted fan with some specific traits❤
Dear Prof. Sam Vaknin Am I right to assume that it's human to have some form of narcissism in yourself? What is the polar opposite to narcissism? Selfawareness? Have the described narcissist's lost their inner balance to be selfaware, falling into a delusional state? I have no formal training in psychology, but I selfreflect on my behavior thanks to your videos.
What's sad is that not one narcissist won't ever "need to watch these videos" because they aren't narcissist. We are the problem, not them. And how dare I suggest therapy.
I have noticed, and wondered if there were two types of sensitive people. I noticed there are people that have come to understand that they are paying way more attention to everything that is going on around them, they keep it to themselves and try to work with that within themselves and within their capacity to avoid burnout. Then are are sensitive individuals, that in an extreme example, announce their sensitivity in way that makes them very special and then use it as leverage to manipulate the behavior and language with everyone around them without shame and impunity. Is one playing opossum, or both? I’ll probably never know. Part of this talk also reminds me of countless times I’m seen shy, unconfident victim types get a series of successes and overnight become a completely different person, belligerent, entitled and ignorantly arrogant the following day or weekend. Almost unrecognizable. Where I see the change and think in panic, omg, I’m working with a crazy person.
Thank you for this channel, Mr Vaknin! I have recently read Kierkegaard’s “Seducer’s diary”. What kind of disorder do you think was described in this book? A narcissist or a psychopath?
Is there something like Latent Narcissism? Something similarly like previously was called latent homosexuality? Latent homosexual makes innuendo homo jokes. Latent Narcissist tunnels his Narcissistic urges and needs. Perhaps it's something similar to covert narc that's not self aware, and by social habits tries to be normal.

No schizoid would go online and have a TH-cam channel. These are covert narcissists. Btw, the term "pervert narcissist' is French nonsense. It has no clinical validity. It is like "emapth". Nonsense.
What's the difference between a somatic type and someone who is just really, REALLY into fitness and health? Is the difference all about balance in other areas of life? Seems like it could go either way, if you just look at it on the surface many times.
