    My fence was stained with oil base, I don't like it. Is it possible to go over it with a solid water-based stain. Perhaps after it dries for a season? I need help with this one. Thank you.

    If an old fence has had a water based stain that is now cracking and dusting off at the touch, can I clean it, brighten it, and use an oil base stain? Are there any concerns there?

    I am learning a ton about fence stain. I can tell you that I wasn’t sad to see water based paints take over.

    I bought a new house 1 year ago and never stained the fence. Can I just stain it as is or do I need to do something to the wood first?

      @@JoeEverest Part of my redwood fence is getting hit by the lawn sprinkler. Do you recommend using a clear wood sealant after applying the Behr Semi-Transparent stain to protect against water damage?

    I have new cedar fence in Houston. I'm going to stain just my side of the fence. South Texas is a humid environment. If we have some low humidity in the Spring for a week, could I use an oil-based stain or is our climate just not suitable for oil stain? I wouldn't know what the moisture % would be in the wood after...say a week of mild low-humid days.

      Absolutely, there are quite a few Texas-based contractors I’ve talked to that use the product! Best advise would be to pick up a moisture meter from Amazon, I believe they’re around $30.

    I just finished installing a 200 foot fence. Should I paint it, stain it or both? I’m really not sure how this works. Any Recommendation will help. Thank you.

      Using a nice stain will still let you see the grain and character of the board, while still protecting the wood itself. Most paints will simply just cover up the wood.

      Thanks for the response. What would removal consist of? Using a stripper and then pressure washing?

    • @kylebaker8224

      Would a simple pressure wash do the trick or do chemical strippers need to be used?

    what's best for the wood? What's going to make the wood last the longest, forget all the rest of the stuff.

  • @mlhm5

    7. There are many more advances made in water based paints/stains in the last 20 years than oil based.

    • @Theflyinghoneybadger
      @Theflyinghoneybadger ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water Based Paints / Stains will never protect wood the same way oil will. There are ships that are 200 years old still with the same timbers in them. This is because they were treated with oils. Pain sits on the surface, as soon as that membrane is broken, the wood is toast.

    Q8 log oil or twp stain is far superior to any water based stain.

    • @JoeEverest
      @JoeEverest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do typically prefer an oil-based stain, but just like any tool each has its own use.

      I think the reason is because the noise gate (or dynamic expansion) threshold was set too high for Caleb's softer voice. That's the problem with automated mixers if you don't check your levels, they assume that audio below a certain level is background noise so it turns down the mic level. Trun up his gain and/or lower the gate threshold.
