Discovered AH and RT via Halo Achievement HORSE back in 2010. There was a time when roosterteeth was easily the greatest creative group on TH-cam and I couldn’t wait to watch literally anything they put out, between like 2010 and 2014 they were unstoppable. It’s really such a shame to see them wither away like this.

Nobody else was doing in-game mini-games in Minecraft or GTA or HALO like these guys were. The fact that a Tower or Pimps was an Easter egg in the official version of Minecraft also goes to show how BIG these guys were.

I remember watching that episode of Minecraft when it came out and even before the moment Ray's name popped up at the end I was crying and I cried for a good few minutes after it ended. Not just because it was sad to see him leave but also because I knew that one of my biggest and favorite parts of Achievement Hunter/Rooster Teeth was gone.

When I watched that Burnout Let’s Play, they kept talking about how “Survive Block Island was the best thing they ever made” and I thought, “wow, that sounds like way high praise, and I love Survivor, why don’t I get proven wrong about new Rooster Teeth stuff.” It’s completely behind a paywall. Like everything that they make now

I watched Achievement Hunter and Let's Play for years. Geoff can say whatever he wants about it not being a corporate decision, and honestly I believe him, but that doesn't change the fact that the real point that AH, LP and RT lost their soul was the second they sold it to Warner Bros. After that, things were just never the same again. Sure the budgets were bigger, but you could just tell that it was no longer about having fun, engaging with the audience, and trying to make good content. It turned into a job, and not just a job, but a job that came with a big set of rules that sucked the fun out of everything.

Watched RT since Fails of the Week started, quickly spreading to their other content, stopped a few months after the Ryan incident. I watched LP begin, then grow and fall along with RT itself. I recently made myself playlists of almost all their videos to slowly work through once more from the top, didn't expect it to end so definitively but it's better than keeping the slow death going even longer. These guys were one of, if not The largest source of joy I've ever had in my life.

Honestly, fantastic video. There's not much more to be said after that ending. Like so many others Achievement Hunter made up a massive part of my childhood all the way back to middle school. I think the first video of theirs I watched was Rage Quit: Slender back when those games were at a peak. I remember my brothers and I gathering around the computer to watch the weekly Minecraft episode every Friday after school. All good memories.
But of course, as it seems with so many things nowadays, things always come up that mar the masterpiece in my head. Controversy after controversy, mistake after mistake. Honestly, the kid I used to be is sad but ultimately I'm relieved. Achievement Hunter went on for far too long, and I'm just glad it's finally over.

I feel like I was one of the few that still sort of enjoyed achievement hunter up until 2020.
I felt like Michael and Jeremy’s antics kept the channel alive. And Gavin was still relatively a part of it.
But after they had to go WFH with Covid, there long, distant, content making felt kind of boring. So I stopped watching until they got back together. Except they never did. by the time AH came back to their office, It was a completely different crew. And like you said, they weren’t really funny. They just yelled a lot. Mostly when It didn’t really make sense for them to be yelling. Like yelling was funny or something. I just couldn’t watch.
I don’t think people give enough credit for the end of achievement Hunter to Covid. Because Covid introduced the old crew to a lot of different ways for them to make content and they all seemed to stick to that even when they could have returned to the office. Jeremy decided to stay with his family and stream. Gavin and Michael decided to keep doing there new podcasts. Geoff did the same.
Lindsay and jack were the only “old hands” left. But Lindsay could never lead the comedy, she was only ever good as the butt of a joke. And Jack was too squeaky clean, and also was only able to perform well as the butt. But AH and RT as a whole became too concerned with staying clean and PC to allow anyone to be the antagonist anymore. So everything just felt fake and work culture like.

  • @Bleedblxck
    @Bleedblxck 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

I'd like to blame it on my favorite members leaving, the style of content changing, or the newer members becoming preachy/unfunny/woke or whatever else.
We may not like it, but good things don't last forever
Eventually, they all had to grow up and be allowed to grow out of Achievement Hunter.
They became adults with bigger responsibilities to themselves and those in their lives. Geoff became sober (very happy for him) and he has Millie and Emily. Gavin has Meg and his Slow Mo channel. Michael has Lindsay and two daughters. Jack has Caiti. Ray left to stream and he has Tina now. Ryan... uh.. isn't here.
The truth is.. so did we. We grew up and moved on too.

I looked at two of the allegations, the first one being the 17 year old who lied and said she was 18 which is whatever.
The second was another 17 year old but the main allegation was that Ryan had taken off a condom without asking her (which isn’t illegal but I agree is a pos move), but if you watch her video where she describes it then it seems like he knew she did it. She also said he didn’t ask for her age but did ask if she was in HS or college (she was in college) but I’m not sure if someone would ask that in a vacuum without asking for that person’s age (or if she also lied about her age on her instagram which he looked at first before flirting with her).
Honestly, I’d like to see a comprehensive deep dive on all the allegations that doesn’t immediately paint him as a groomer (not that he isn’t one).

To be fair, it seems like when it comes to the internet, nothing goes out on a high note, but with a slow sizzle that just overstays its welcome. I havent thought about AH in years because I used to love all their content but when people started leaving and the content was just "TTT, podcast, TTT, TTT, TTT, GTA, TTT and then like a 15 minute minecraft video on fridays" I knew it was time to quit. There are so many great moments that I loved growing up, and even some from Ryan before the controversies happened. I would love to spend a few more years forgetting everything and then go back and watch the highlights with fresh eyes.

When I think of how i got introduced to RT i recall it being around the time RVB came out and I started watching that. Then the fails of the week videos that Geoff and Jack made made me a regular. So AH was great when it started with original content back then (well there wasn't much other content) but it was good. But shows / content can only go for so long i guess.
I think Ray leaving was definitely one of the starts of the decline but Jeremy and Matt (to an extent) did decent to make up. But Geoff, Gav, Jack, Ray and Michael were really the top entertainers and then Ray left, then geoff went off and gavin appeared less and less so the content got stale and wasnt the same for me anymore. Then the ryan incident happened and honestly AH should have just disbanded then.

I remember around 10 years ago when I watched every video Achievement Hunter made. At that time, and for a while after, I thought working there or Funhaus was the ultimate job (perhaps they would still be in their prime). But I started to stop watching on the regular due to work around 6 years ago, which is a weird thought. Doesn't feel like it was that long ago. I also remember thinking around that time that these channels wouldn't last. There was no way they could keep it up for 15-20 years. Sad to see it happen. The good news is that there is so much content to go back to.

They got me through college and all the trauma of my early 20s. The tour of Achievement City was my first video and I didn't look back. It's so hard to see it end. I lingered for so long with RT and AH, but cut the cord in 2020 for obvious reasons. It sucks, I'll think of all the highlights that I loved and a lot of them involved Ryan. It just sucks to love the crew of a ship that is sinking. I love so many of the personalities at RT. But it's just disintegrating at this point.

While ofc something big was gone the additions of Matt and Jeremy first and Trevor and Alfredo later truly made me enjoy the content for many years after. I think i stopped watching religiously in 2020 but whar truly killed me was the garbage human that is Ryan. I could never recover the wide eyed child wonder from the early days and that only made me feel like a piece of shit since what right to i have to feep bad when there were so many victims of this despicable person. Ryan's actions were not the faultbof AH but it sure stopped my interest in what as you have said was a declining content churning machine

This is still company that was big enough to have conventions for fans, that had enough people show up to compare to cons for entire industries. I do think the fall is- well fair. AH and RT were bound to decline one way or another. Nothing gold stays. The internet is different, content consumption is different, there's far more content out there that doesn't fit the AH RT formula. That's okay. Just like Newgrounds came and went, so will Roosterteeth. Either it will be absorbed into a larger entity (which was), become a shadow of it's former self stuck in irrelevancy forever (which it would have been), or folded in itself and disappear forever (which it eventually did). I prefer the mercy stroke out taking it out before it becomes something completely inverse to it's founding principles. Also, the Internet changed. Before, it was a toxic chauvenistic frat house, and RT and AH were an outgrowth of that. Now it's sanitized, family friendly, and heavily survielked with a militant audience of social media addicts. The rough and rowdy days are over. We now live in an internet era that harkens back to cable TV in the 90s Hollywood of the 50s. A new subversive order has to come and shift the paradigm. Roosterteeth is spent, it can no longer carry the torch. But someone and something else will, and hopefully, the people that made Roosterteeth great are there to cheer it on.

Ray leaving was the beginning of the decline. The death was when Ryan turned out to be a pedo. And they could never recover from that due to the company's expansion, with replacements that could never live up to the original crew. Members that were from a younger generation that brought with them the new PC, woke culture that completely altered the sense of humour and personalities they used to have.
