Nosferatu is One of the Scariest Movies in Decades!
Robert Eggers can tell you. Nosferatu is effectively two plus hours of hypnotism that will leave you breathless and enamored from start to finish.
I've always been one of Robert Eggers' biggest fans and Nosferatu only served to remind me why that faith and confidence will always be rewarded!

The Empire Strikes Back, is a cartoon compared to Dune pt 2.
Apart from the superb cinematographic translation, It is all in the quality of the books.
christopher walken as emperor = disqualified lol
i physically cringed, gritted my teeth, and balled my fist as paul fought freaky white folks🤣
Is it tho? Chani is trash, no birth of sister? There are some issues
Dune 1 was a masterpiece. 2 was meh.
Damn, there's a script worse than the wonder woman film? On yeah, wonder woman 2
Possibly the best movie I have ever seen. Primers helped me understand the Dune books a bit more that makes the movie even better. Understanding the Dune universe a little more adds so much more enjoyment. Each actor/actress CRUSH each character they portray. The moment Feyd Rautha acknowledges Paul is on the same level of savagery as himself was one of the most amazing bit of acting I have ever seen. All of 3 seconds of it. The cinematography was over the top.
John Lithgow would have been a better pick for the emperor than Christopher Walken
I committed to read the first book before watching the movies as I didn't want to lose the full experience of the story. The book is translated to my language so horribly that it was a nightmare to read almost to 2/3 of the book until I got used to it. I just watched both movies over the weekend and oh my gosh.... I am so so grateful for this experience and this level of cinematography. the only thing I'm sorry about that I watched this at home. I am still shaken by the 2nd movie
Staggeringly, astoundingly wrong.
Dune : Prophecy has already spoiled the cinematography
“The dark room was silent as the movie played. We didnt express ourselves at all. You had to be there!” White people crack me up 😂 2:53
Grizzy gargling 😂 0:34
So far I’d put it up with the lord of the rings trilogy. Epic with good storytelling and characters.
Giedi Prime was shot in Infrared, not black and white. If that helps.
I watched Dune 2 with my partner without knowing anything about the franchise other then "bald people are the bad guys" The visuals were stunning and incredible and whilst I may have missed some parts it was also quite easy to follow the journey. Best movie i ever seen in cinema and its not even close
I went twice. Cried both times…
My favorite sci-fi movie of all time, the 1st one back in the day and the 2 new ones
If this movie was scary, let alone "the scariest in decades" then I'm a dinosaur riding an alien spaceship. Overhyped! I don't want to be rude, but people really need to be honest with their reviews. I'm not saying people who liked it are wrong or anything, but when something is not scary, slow paced etc... you have to acknowledge that. Maybe this comes from people finally wanting something good so bad that they are becoming delusional
well, in the same spirit of not being rude; I do maintain there is an objective quality to filmmaking but intricacies like scares and humor are entirely subjective. What you would call "not scary" or "slow paced" are subjective complaints. If it doesn't work for you, that's fine but the grander audience is under no obligation to acknowledge that for you. And to touch a little more on the latter complaint; slow pacing =/= bad movie. Slow pacing is almost essential to horror/scary movie filmmaking in general and outside of a select few genres, slow pacing is pretty consistent across the board. If you are disinterested by slower paced movies, there is nothing wrong with that, it isn't for you then but to go back to my ending sentence prior; it's not reliant on the audience to justify your dislike of a slower pace. You feeling that I need to acknowledge that isn't really a fair comparison to make. Case in point to both of your complaints, the polar opposite of Nosferatu this last year would be Alien: Romulus. Another movie that I really enjoyed seeing multiple times this last year. It addresses your complaint of slow pacing and tries to frighten you in a fundamentally different way than Nosferatu does but I didn't find it scary whatsoever. Maybe that's just bias because I've watched the Alien movies so often or maybe because I'm not wired to find movies like that scary, yet I find Nosferatu pretty scary. I don't believe in the saying "just let people enjoy things", so I am very happy you didn't like it or it didn't work for you because I like to hear and read differing opinions and criticisms on art. It's the only way we learn to make things better and share in a constructive way! And I really hope you had a favorite movie of last year that blew you away as much has this one did for me.
@@Scoophash Yup, thank you. But unfortunately Hollywood doesn't learn from its mistakes. And I guess it never will. because they are incompetent or just want to make money and nothing more. And when I say slow paced I mean-boring. I don't mind being slow pace or fast pace, but there is nothing there to keep the pace interesting. There is a reason some books or movies or songs are timeless classics and most things today are garbage or just ok. They just don't know or care to make it. As for Nosferatu it will fade just like most things. Having said that, people think it's just hate. No, the film has some pluses, just pointing out the minuses. And unfortunately there are too many
Yeah, I need to see these movies back to back in imax. I’ve done it on tv but would definitely commit to it in the caldron of imax. I actually first saw part two on a regular screen then traveled about 45 min to see it on imax with my son and it was ten times better!
It really wasn’t scary. Creepy yes but not scary. Very weird
bro your doing tricks on it ,calm down Mr glaze
I like Eggers, he’s a really good filmmaker and I enthusiastically support good filmmakers making good art 🤷🏻 not gonna apologize for being enthusiastic about a good film, if that bothers you I don’t know what to tell ya.
The movie is beautiful. Like BEAUTIFUL!!! The dialogue delivery was trash, except Dafoe and Skarsgård. Will i watch it again? Absolutely ❤❤
I do maintain the dialogue delivery from everyone was good except for Corrin and Johnson. But I do understand if it didn’t land for everyone else. For better and worse, Eggers just full sends it even when the dialogue isn’t flowing as well as it could. Will definitely watch it again… or more than twice at this rate I guess.
@Scoophash I felt like the dialogue could have used another go-round but I'm also obsessed with horror movies. If the dialogue was poorly delivered, I am taken right out. I also feel like the Hardings were handled poorly by scripting. I'm supposed to believe that Ann is Ellen's dearest friend but she did so little to comfort her friend. The relationship was sort of believable between Ann and Friedrich until they tried kissing in public before the seizure. I agree with all points you made. They were all fantastic. Subscribe
Great well-detailed video and I liked how you touched on the filmmakers choice to use moonlight in such a deliberate way. Although the film is incredibly well made and oozes passion, this is not the horror masterpiece I was hoping for. I can’t help but compare Nosferatu to my favorite Eggers film, The Lighthouse, as both use interesting mythology and build an enveloping atmosphere. But where the lighthouse succeeds, I think Nosferatu kind of fails. I was never immersed in the characters’ actions and I think that is due to the lightning fast pace at which the story moves. I never had time to take in the quieter moments and revel in the mythology of Dracula, vampires, etc, like I did while reading the original novel or watching Herzog’s Nosferatu. I know you mentioned the jump scares not being an issue for you, but I was appalled at their inclusion. It felt like their only purpose was to blow my eardrums out. They serve no purpose in relation to the characters’ experiences in the setting and felt like a cheap addition meant to shock the audience. I also think the sound of the film is far too loud and in your face for being based on such atmospheric and moody source material. The only scene I was frightened by was when Orlock invaded the Harding household and the short buildup to it.
I can understand that, like I mentioned; this isn’t my favorite one either I just think it’s his most ‘thought out’ on the technical side. Lighthouse is still my favorite artistically of his but I’m still putting Northman at number 1 for me. I can see this film not being as frightening for some people, I’m usually not effect by scares in film and it was just the way he incorporated the technicality of the lighting and editing in a very unique way. I get ya on the jump scares though, they did feel out of place in a few spots for sure.
tres fantastique aka very amazing breakdown!
You made me sad i never went to theatre to watch it.
Being better than any star wars film isn't much of an achievement because star wars is and always has been drivel for lemmings. It's not the fault of the lemmings, nothing of note was around at the time and people will consume what's before them.
Of course it's better than star wars. The original usually is
geidi prime was filmed in infrared.
At least I didn’t fall asleep in Empire Strikes Back 😂
watching all video analysis & video essays about dune to cope with the fact that it's getting snub after snub this award season 😞 it's almost as if they forgot it even came out last year.
Compare Dune with Mad Max Furioso Sage. Both movies are in the desert but they look so very different.
Stilgar CARES if the Lisan al Ghaib is real. He believes him to be real. THAT is what makes this film terrifying. His faith is TRULY beyond all logic…and that is very real in the world. Don’t try to water that thought down. It’s what the message truly is…and just how truly afraid we should all be.
Im a fan of Star Wars. But honestly, Dune is more appealing, profound and more”brained” then Star Wars
that thumbnail^^ saying that Dune is better than The Empire strikes back is like saying "The Brothers Karamasov is better than Twilight" (or any Book Dan Brown has ever written" and will write)
I was not horrified by the transformation. Loved it, I bought into his empirical war.
Paul’s speech had me ready to go fight for him right away. Gotta give credit to Chalamet for that performance
New sub, and liked! I love your enthusiasm. Just finished reading Dune and I am OBSESSED.
There's few films that really impacted me in the theater, this is one of them 💯 absolutely incredible experience 🔥
Now it hits differently, with RT and AH officially no more and officially history now.
I have one gripe with the end of Dune 2, and it's that Chani goes off in a huff because she thinks Paul is gonna get it on with the Empress. In the books she's not stupid, and she knows right away what the plan is, Paul tells her, and she agrees knowing it's a good plan to marry the empress. Paul states that he will wed her but bear her no children or sleep with her to snub the Emperor. So yeah, having her go off in a huff in the movie seems a little childish, a pointless event to build up tension, pointless tension. Paul and Chani's relationship is solid, one of the biggest love stories in the history of time, it belittles their love having her go off in a huff.
eh dune is obviously much more developed than star wars, but itll never be a cultural icon simply bc the concept is fucking weird. creator was def on acid when making it or something
I’m sure you know this by now but the black and white sections of the film were shot in camera in infrared which is why those parts look so cool
I know Timothy from Call me by your Name and that one Nolan Movie and all of a sudden I watch Dune. And damn it but he's damn good.
A lot of talk mate…
Movies have been so bad lately, literally have been starved for this kind of movie, I can't get enough of it, I am blown away that a director had the balls to just step on everyone in the entire industry and put this out. Nothing has captivated me since the original Star Wars trilogy, I hope, there is a Dune Messiah coming. Also Stilgar might be my favorite movie character of all time, top 5 at least. Great job Javier
We haven't had a film of this quality since the lord of the rings trilogy. If Denis can pull off Messiah we're gonna have another masterpiece trilogy
These guys are done, idc what ppl think. The crap they committed is taboo and hard to even come back from
Dune is objectively terrible.
