Not Chloe’s solo album being less creative, less interesting and less ambitious than the albums she made with Halle. It’s such a shame! This video delicately articulates all of the artistic/branding hurdles Chloe seems to have stumbled over - causing her momentum to stall, as well as a commercially crippling rollout for her solo debut album. It’s painfully obvious the commercial imperative takes centre stage in her album, but if you go that route you had better deliver hits! They didn’t. That’s the most frustrating part for me! At this point I think she could have stuck to making a more alternative or experimental project. In that case, if it was commercially weak, it would at least receive applause from critics for bold ambition and an unapologetic desire to differentiate herself. What we got in the end was a product audiences on both sides found rather nondescript. 😬
I was kind of hoping she would've done like a pop rock album, alternative pop/R&B, opera, something unique and different. For example, a song like Janet's "This Time". Yes, it's a song about her significant other cheating, but the way the song is arranged and produced and mixed with the opera is outstanding and one of Janet's best songs. The album is on track to not sell well its opening week. The only potential hit song on the album would be "Cheatback". I guarantee she will have to rebrand herself on the next project
This was her debut album! Did you know that Janet and Prince debut albums also flopped? No you probably didn't! There are many more very successful artists that have also flopped once or twice! As long as Chloe does not give up her music career because of reviews from fake as$ music critics like you, she will be just fine. ChloexHalle albums did not get great numbers either! They still received 5 Grammy nominations from them! Sometimes it's not just about the numbers. I don't call "In Pieces" a flop because I can stream it all day without having to skip tracks that I don't like.

to be honest in pieces as her first album as is was a genus move. I feel that her hypersexuality and the generic pop rnb is going to be a shadow of her career. People just want her style of music back during the Hallie X Chloe days, and that is what In pieces serves. Warning this album will require multiple listens to fully get the experience. Yes a lot of her tracks in that album is hella rushed
Exactly. Let's not forget she went viral off of the Buss It Challenge. Columbia seen the praise she got off of that and tried to capitalize off of it by marketing and pushing her as this sex symbol. So her record label is partly responsible but ultimately she is responsible. You have to put your foot down in the industry, know who you are, and have boundaries on what you will or won't do. Or these people in power will put you on a path you may not have seen or intended for yourself. To me Chloe is someone growing into her womanhood and there's nothing wrong with that, but there is a way to do so with taste. Hopefully she can get people in her circle who can serve as true mentors and who truly have her best interest at heart.
Beyonce's a great performer, but if we're honest about it, her catalog is just ok when compared to Rihanna for example. I don't trust her ear for picking hits. She doesn't pay attention to the charts at this point in her career and that's fine FOR HER, but that's not the person that should be picking lead singles for a young artist. That's facts, don't come for me Beyhive lol.
I kind of disagree. Her first three albums were hit heavy (CIL, Deja vu, Irreplaceable, Halo, IIWAB just to name a few), and even here latest in the 2010s and this year’s Renaissance (LOT, DIL, formation, BMS, Cuff It ecc), but she has stated (and implied) multiple times that making hits for her is as important as creating her legacy, which was her goal with her later albumes (Self Titled, Lemonade, Renaissance). Therefore I would say that her not having as many is more intentional that not (especially with her making music that would not cater to a mainstream audience). Also Beyonce is not responsible for Chloe’s hits (or non hits) as she only signed to Parkwood as a management company and not her record label. But yes, obviously Rihanna has an appeal that is a lot more commercial (less with Anti and more with her other albums)
Beyonces catalogue is superior to Rihanna’s. The only reason why people like Rihanna’s better is because they don’t like Beyoncé as a person or they prefer generic pop trash that has been shoved down our throats through constant paid radio play. If you look at pure sales when their albums came out Beyonce always sold by way more. In the last decade Beyonce hasn’t sent her music to radio, hasn’t promoted her music, hasn’t put music videos that are accessible and that impacted her commercial success, but her song catalogue is better and more experimental. Lyrically also she goes more in depth than Rihanna. So some people think Rihanna has the better catalogue because they heard her music constantly in the last decade, but if you actually weren’t overexposed to one artists music over the others your opinion of who has the better catalogue would change.
@@vedjavan2024 Maybe you don’t read but I said pure album sales, not streaming. Every Beyoncé album has sold more than Rihanna’s album in pure sales. And on top of that Rihanna has more studio albums than Beyoncé.

I honestly was loving when she brought out the sexual liberation in her image anyone who listened to ungodly hour and watched the virtual live performances for the album throughout 2020 would know this was coming and I was here for it. My only thing is I just wanted her to add something unique and innovative to it I liked her 2021 VMA performance where she challenged sexuality and church I wish she added that more in her music as well as musically instead of following generic trends like making music that’s targeted to tik tok audiences. That was my only issue with Chloe with her solo music is the disconnect between her image and music and lack of originality and individuality as a solo musician
In my humble opinion and to be quite frank. Chloe is a very very talented performer. But to me her name music is like the rest. Today's music is about sex and mostly it's just porno in front of our faces. Everyone is doing each other in front of the world to see. The industry is just exploiting our black women for there own gain. Because that's what sells. And she does not have to do that her talent is amazing. She can sing perform and she writes her own songs. I think she is over sexualized in her performances. If you're gonna give yourself to the world then don't give them all to see. Just a little of you. But give them all you got in when you perform. They will appreciate you more than just giving them your body for everyone to see. Good luck beautiful young lady.❤

Really truly sad for her recent setbacks. I was rooting for her to lead r&b into another path, and imagine my disappointment when Have Mercy dropped. She could’ve been the voice of this generation but her label forced her into a mold. Unfortunate.
What makes this even worse is that she’s announced a solo tour - BIG mistake. She doesn’t have enough hits to support a tour, especially since the album is doing poorly. Most artists don’t go on tour until they’ve released 2-3 albums. This is not going to go well. 😢
I mean… she has 2 albums with Halle and like 6 solo singles in addition to her solo album. She’s not dry for songs to sing, and she definitely has a fan base big enough for small venues.
Definitely disagree! the album as a whole is very cohesive even going from "How does it feel" to "Feel me cry" the repeated "pom pom pom pom pom" going into the next song... very cohesive! "Make it look easy" isnt even about a relationship 😂nor is "Told ya", "In Pieces" or "Feel me cry" feel me cry is about Sex 🙃 Now, I do agree the SOME of the interlude were unnecessary like "Heart on my sleeve" it should've been longer, but you still cant say that it's bad at all 😂 did y'all even listen to the Album or are y'all just going based on what the next is saying? did y'all even listen to Chloe and Halle before even listening to Chloe's debut album? anyways, Chloe did a damn good job I wasn't a fan of hers solo work before this album and I listened with an open ear and actually enjoyed the album
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's great to hear that you found the album cohesive and enjoyed it overall. However, it's important to acknowledge that everyone has their own experiences with music (and their own sets of cultural references). You are correct that not all songs are explicitly about relationships. However, they (for the most part) do touch on themes of heartbreak, vulnerability, and sexual intimacy, which are often associated with romantic relationships. Regarding the idea of cohesiveness, a transition between two songs is not what makes an album cohesive AS A WHOLE. In comparison to other R&B albums that are known for their cohesiveness, such as Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill", TLC's “CrazySexyCool” or Janet Jackson’s “The Velvet Rope,” In Pieces falls short, mainly because of its sequencing, in my opinion. The previously mentioned albums not only have a clear and consistent sound throughout, but also are sequenced very thoughtfully and explore themes that are developed and interwoven in a meaningful way. Also, while Chloe Bailey's vocal abilities are undoubtedly impressive and some songs are very interesting (e.g., Pray It Away), the album lacks the kind of lyrical depth and storytelling that characterizes some of the most impactful R&B albums. Many of the tracks feel like superficial explorations of standard mainstream R&B themes without offering anything particularly fresh or insightful. This is meant to give more context into the video’s commentary. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
@@the_groove the cohesive reference from me was an example, Chloe has stated that she used the same key from one song to go into the next so so that it can be cohesive It’s in that same interview that you displayed as b-roll

I don’t like the album cover. It doesn’t evoke the feeling she wants it to. I think they needed a different perspective of the shot
Awesome Breakdown! Keep up the good work! 👊😎
It’s crazy that she felt that ama performance wasn’t her being herself cuz it was way better than the vma performance like by a lot 😫
“Chloe collaborates NOTORIOUS domestic abuser Chris Brown” 😂😂😂😂
This almost took me out, it was unexpected 😂, and the way he said It so casually.
@@lolab1917 I know right!!! The way he read it like he was just announcing the weather, I was like “wait a minute, you did not just say that!”😂😂😂
Really truly sad for her recent setbacks. I was rooting for her to lead r&b into another path, and imagine my disappointment when Have Mercy dropped. She could’ve been the voice of this generation but her label forced her into a mold. Unfortunate.
Chloe could always become an actress and use that movie money to pay columbia back.
I never saw this level of dissection when it came to their duo work. Keep the same energy for Halle
Have you heard Halle's snippets though?
Dont undermine her like this. She is an ARTIST
Halle has Jermain Dupri. And Disney. Something tells me she will be very successful
Her tour is already sold out, and it's just a small city tour not a world one. Ya'll want her to fail so bad, it's sickening.
Definitely disagree! the album as a whole is very cohesive even going from "How does it feel" to "Feel me cry" the repeated "pom pom pom pom pom" going into the next song... very cohesive!
"Make it look easy" isnt even about a relationship 😂nor is "Told ya", "In Pieces" or "Feel me cry" feel me cry is about Sex 🙃
Now, I do agree the SOME of the interlude were unnecessary like "Heart on my sleeve" it should've been longer, but you still cant say that it's bad at all 😂
did y'all even listen to the Album or are y'all just going based on what the next is saying?
did y'all even listen to Chloe and Halle before even listening to Chloe's debut album?
anyways, Chloe did a damn good job
I wasn't a fan of hers solo work before this album and I listened with an open ear and actually enjoyed the album
@@the_groove the cohesive reference from me was an example, Chloe has stated that she used the same key from one song to go into the next so so that it can be cohesive
It’s in that same interview that you displayed as b-roll
@@the_groove I don’t believe you listened to Chloe’s album in its entirety. Based upon your review that is what your opinions are giving. I think you watched other album reviews and you’re piggy backing off those for clicks and views.
What’s a target audience? She’s not targeting any of you 😭
Chloe nailed this one time it was rushed to listen ❤
I think Chloe is trying to be beyonce 2.0 look at her performances
I agree
The high are very high on this album such as Looze you, in pieces or the cb features, but the lows are unbearable. India arie is a good role model for Chloe, the good girl gone good image is what the fans want.
They can always go listen to India! That was a dumb thing to say!
The fans will take what she puts out, or keep it moving! Chloe will never be loved by everyone nor should she try to be. She said that Beyonce told her and Halle to not try to conform, but let the world catch up with them. That's great advice which is probably why Chloe does not take advice from fake music executives on the internet!
Sounds like you want her in a box. I completely disagree.
No that's the thing she's in a box
Exactly. Who are these people behind their screens trying to dictate what Chloe should or shouldn't do. You people are just too much. Let Chloe soar.
@@madelinedurand5632 how can she “soar” when the product isn’t selling? How can she soar when the lack of demand for her music is clipping her wings. Everyone in this comment section wants Chloe to find her wings musically. She hasn’t found them yet: fact. And there is absolutely *nothing* constructive or helpful in a hollow statement like “let Chloe soar” - it comes across flippant. Like she’s only making music for a hobby. This isn’t called “show hobbies”, it’s called “show BUSINESS”.
In my opinion, the people offering constructive critique are more helpful than the people who offer blind praise and then proceed to not buy her music. 😒
@@nameisamine we know it's show business, but it is not just about the numbers. This is a debut album that is very good! Many have said no skip album. I agree with them. Janet and Prince both had debut albums that flop! Try Google and you will discover all of the many other successful artists that have also had an album that flopped! They didn't give up and neither will Chloe! Give her time to find her niche! she is going to be just fine!

Thank you. They are either just too negative or haters. They need to get a life and let Chloe do her thing.
I really didn't like the name Notorious domestic abuser Chris Brown. None of us is clean and we all deserve second chances. And only God should judge. That was not proper on your part Groove
When you continue to do these terrible actions then no you don’t deserve a second chance. Chris has continued to not only put his hands on women but on men too.
She has one of the best if not the best of the young voices in music
