Honestly bioshock as a series would be awesome, like the Arcane format but well written I feel like a movie could cut out chunks of the story heavily *if* they adapt for an example like Bioshock 1 But honestly, at this point, I would be happy with having something new to hyperfixiate /j
If they’re making it a movie it should definitely be in theaters and a blockbuster, it really would require that kind of budget to nail it, and they would make it really visually cool too with the larger budget. It definitely should NOT be on Netflix, that makes no sense. If it’s gonna be a streaming movie, it should be Amazon Prime or HBO 100%, but still theaters would be best. I don’t think Netflix will have the budget to seriously pull this off…

80 million isn’t a crazy high budget, definitely nowhere near a blockbuster. I dont even think a 200mil budget would be enough though for a perfect Bioshock movie, budget would need to be at least 260-280mil, but it’s not going to theaters and they don’t want it to be a blockbuster, so we may end up with a low budget Bioshock movie if it does end up being 80mil 😔 Its gonna have soo much cgi and special effects, and unique set environments/scenery’s and props. It would be very expensive 80mil would nowhere near suffice even if it’s all cheap no name actors

Are you getting the lenses modified to fit a specific look) - lights (how are you going to light the project and how many will you need) - sets, (are you going to be building a set, are you going to be traveling and renting out places for sets, are you going to be blocking off main roads, etc. PROPS likes cars, back ground characters, buildings, coffee, etc.) - CGI (are you green screening, how big will the green screen be? Are you use a LED wall that shows real time the back ground you have made for the movie. How many backgrounds will you need? Will you need to cgi characters? Do they have super powers? This requires a full team of VFX artists) -sound and music (are you getting you’re music and sound effects made, are you using stock sounds and music, are you getting an orchestra? Choir? Band? You’re going to have to pay if you use copyrighted music. So you’ll need a team for that as well) - actors and directors and producers screenwriters (people for your film to help it move forward and make it successful, are you getting A-list actors, Keanu Reeves’s, Robert Downey junior, Hugh jackman? These people will hit your budget hard because they are top tier) -sponsors (these help promote and pay towards the movie but you need to invest into them, but usually this is done by putting a product into the movie, a specific brand, car, song, coffee brand, etc.) And lastly -marketing (people who let commoners know that your movie is being released and how it’s being released, live TV, TH-cam, shown in movie theaters, TIKTOK etc) All in all these things really hit budget hard, so yes. 80 million is very low for a budget for a movie of this magnitude. Not only does it take place in another time era, IT IS ALSO UNDERWATER. And besides UNIVERSAL STUDIOS can afford it. TRUST ME they are just being weary because they don’t know this genre and aren’t daring to dream. Unlike paramount which produced SONIC 1,2, and 3 which mind you BEAT the LION KING, breaking a Guinness’s world record, and becoming number 1 movie of the year. So again I’ll say UNIVERSAL can afford it lol 😂

I think that Bioshock would make a much better tv show than a movie. I don't think that two hours is enough time to tell the BS story and still include everything. I think a lot of good characters and scenes would end up on the cutting room floor for the sake of time constraint. I mean, you could do a whole movie just on Sander Cohen alone. What I'd really like to see is a mini series based on Bishock: Rapture. Seeing Rapture born, the beginnings of Ryan/Fontaine, Suchong and his experiments; that would all be a great lead in to the BS movie/show. Yes, it's a lot to ask for.

The fact that the Bioshock movie has been cancelled twice and has taken this long to make, I’m concerned about how it will turn out especially since the Borderlands movie has been through the same issues and ended up being a flop. I hope it doesn’t happen with Bioshock but you never know how it might turn out.
I agree. There's a shitton of stories to tell within Rapture & I feel like squeezing a lot of them into a single movie wouldn't do it justice. We'll have to wait and see what they do with it though.

First i should point out, and i think you are aware of this, that video game articles and articles on the internet in general are loosing quality for ads and are not always reliable (like the 15 years misconception you pointed out). Second despite the idea of a movie being around ever since then the directors you point out have incredible movies in their CV's which is great especially with movies like 28 days later or i am legend that fit the serious and dark tone of bioshock. I dont find it surprising that the movie got delayed and then cancelled around 2013 considering the issues with the PG 13 rating and budget issues. We saw how video game movies turned out like AC which was very mid and the far cry adaption was so bad it turned out to be somewhat hilarious and funny thought its worth pointing out that movie costed 30 million USD to produce but only gained 700K in the box office. Thats a 29 million loss. This might give you an idea of how big the 80/200 million budget is for something like this and the immense financial risks that come with it. Bioshock is a serious franchise with a deep story and i think that it can only be told if the right amount of violence is shown to match the game's rapture world especially after the collapse of society there. In my opinion a series adaption on something like HBO would be the only right thing to do. HBO is known for its serious and controversial shows and bioshock can only be told with multiple episodes covering the vast number of characters. When i say this i think of something like the rapture novel that goes over the timeline up until the first game. Also Vertigo is a VR studio with a few titles the latest being metro awakening. A VR adaption for the post apocalyptic franchise metro. They did a great job with it
