How to Make a KDSS-Equipped 4Runner BETTER Off-Road! Blackgate Customs

  • In this video, we work on a KDSS-equipped 4Runner. KDSS is amazing when the 4Runner is kept stock, but it really limits the truck after a lift. What we do to help that issue is to install the Blackgate Customs rear sway bar KDSS drop kit to increase the down travel and eliminate the bind. We also install the Black Gate Customs control harness to have full control of when KDSS is on. By doing these two mods, it allows the KDSS 4Runners to really be more capable off-road.

    Hydraulic cylinders. Not electronic. No electronic ram in a KDSS system.

    KDSS has better travel and ramp index than non kdss. Please see Tinkerer’s Adventure and/or Edmunds Automotive and their measurements.

    Get the blocks from Kyle at Treaty Oak offroad. He has a front spacer too. Plus treaty oak spacer work with more lifts. And you are supporting someone that knows what’s up in the offroad industry vs a guy who steels ideas.

    The KDSS system doesn’t make the car stiffer, the thicker sway bars does, the KDSS function is to disconnect the sway bars at low speed to let the wheel down travel more then the standard suspension when sway bar disconnect but it is limited down travel distance even though when you install aftermarket extended suspension, that is the only disadvantage.

    Looks like the panhard correction kit would fix the problem with hitting as well.

  • @michaelmullins7920
    @michaelmullins7920 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All things being even KDSS gives you more offroad articulation but requires kdss spacers or aftermarket track panhard bar when going above 3 or 4 inches increased suspension. It's like a swaybar disconnect below 12 MPH.

    The 4R with kdss isn’t limited in any way vs standard non equipped 4R. Virtually every lift kit comes with a kdss option, in addition to skid plates, sliders, etc. and most people whonhave driven both, prefer kdss over non kdss.

    • @dangerdanadv1445

      I have a kdss one and it rides nicer both on and offroad than the non kdss. You can also deactivate kdss by pulling the fuse, though a button would be nice.

      Good to know as I’ve not wanted KDSS but the 2022 T4R my friend ordered and decided not to get (he’s getting Model Y Performance and gave me his T4R) has the KDSS. I know the lifts are a little bit pricier but from what I am finding in my research is the KDSS rides nicer. I am probably going to be on road and not doing much off reading for the near future.
