  • Today I'm going to be installing some new handlebars for my Honda Rebel 500.
They're Kijima bars from Japan. I got them to raise the bars a bit more and pull them back a little.
So that I can get a more upright riding position. With these bars and the installation of my forward controls, I should be much closer to that "cruiser" type riding position that I enjoy.
You can also do this with "risers." They're much easier to install with the stock handlebars and they will give you the same effect. I have both options linked below.

Does the new handlebar hit the tank when turned all the way. Im just looking for handlebars or even a riser that will not damage the tank when the bike gets dropped. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. You have been a tremendous influence. Thanks for the vids. Keep them coming .

Hey Wayne, I'm having the same stripped bolt issue like you on that meter. Can you share which tool did you use to extract it and link to purchase it? Thanks for all your mod sharings. I have bought some of your recommendations. Great videos!

Wow they look great! I have risers on mine but I still feel like I’m leaning just a tad bit. Love the mirrors. Do you have a video on them?

Hey dude, I had the Rebel 500 and for some unknown reason I sold it and got the Rebel 1100. You put the 500 next to the 1100 and the diff in size is barely noticeable so I sort of regret my decision. The top speed is unnoticeable. Here in Europe the 500 does 160 km/h and the 1100 does exactly 172 km/h and then you feel the throttle cutting all the power. If I took the speed limiter off the 1100 it would do 228 almost 230 km/h but top speed isn't important for me as long as the bike can do 160 or in miles 100 mp/h. The only real advantage the 1100 has is torque and acceleration, I mean it's seriously fast it does zero to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. But there's no aftermarket anything here in Europe for the 1100.

Is there a place, preferrably in Canada, I can get these? I would love to swap mine. Wanted to go with a higher rise, but seems like to big a job with extensions for cables and stuff. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

It’s kind of tiring that the whole handlebar is 1” and everything on it revolves around that. I kind of want it to be more compatible with most aftermarket 7/8” handlebars. I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum: I want clip on bars, but I bet there are 1” ones; just gotta find them.

Did you have to extend any of the cables when you changed to Kijima handle bars. I tried to get 2 inch risers but the service guys said the cables weren't long enough. So will I have issues changing to the kijima bars. I am a women and I too have short arms. So just looking for the best idea. 😅

It's hard to find a proper "ergonomically" designed handlebar these days. For comfort, you should be able to naturally position your hands out in front, elbows slightly greater than ninety degrees, with your hands relaxed...that is the ideal cruising position. Unfortunately most bars force your wrists and elbow to turn inwards, pinching the nerves and making long riding uncomfortable. A straight bar is great for control, not so much for comfort.
