Bit annoyed that they couldn't just recast Kang (I mean, there are plenty of talented Black actors out there who could fill Jonathan Majors' shoes), but this casting does intrigue me. I look forward to seeing how they make Doom the new Big Bad over Kang.
Yes, that's what marvel wouldve done pre-endgame. but now they need to build up hype. why else would they bring RDJ back for an iconic character? we have plenty of good actors that wouldve done a better job.
Ok but not even Thanos got a Thanos-esque build up. He made super brief cameos across Phase 2 that didn’t leave much presence- more like punchlines. It’s only with Infinity War that Thanos’ personality and motives clicked into place
Some kind of prosthetic makeup on RDJ would potentially make Dr Doom a real different character that stands out, rather than just being some variant of Tony Stark.
I’m loving this. Tony Stark has played many variants in the Marvel comics. Also he played Doom in the Earth 11029 comics which is great. Yet he played “Anthony Stark” yet I believe they will take some from that. Google that people, it’s a good one.
@@luodeligesi7238i agree with you and I wish Marvel was so bold as to take one of its biggest actors, if not the biggest, in the studio’s history and bring them back to play an entirely new character because that is the job of an actor, and hopefully we’re all grown up enough to understand just because an old face returns to a franchise doesn’t mean they’re playing the same character again. However, that’s not what we’re getting. This isn’t RDJ play Victor Von Doom, it’s RDJ literally playing Tony Stark if he were Doom. If you’re a fan of Doom and this is the moment you’ve been waiting for, I’m sorry. Marvel isn’t gonna give you the Dr. Doom you’ve been waiting for with baited breath. You’re gonna get two movies with evil Tony Stark, calling himself Doom, before he’s inevitably killed of at the end at which point Marvel will look at you and say, “there, are you happy? We gave you Doom.” Completely oblivious that 1.) They did not give us Doom, they gave us evil Tony Stark who s a different character from Doom. And 2.) They completely shat the bed on a beloved character
They are doing this because it is going to be a Stark variant. The guy that leaked it months ago about RDJ being Doom already leaked that he’s a stark variant too. They wouldn’t hire someone so important to the MCU and recognizable to the MCU without a plan in place and a reason to make it RDJ. That reason is, he is a stark variant. It’s going to be awesome
Bringing back RDJ is overwhelming proof Disney and Marvel have no new ideas. They're just going to keep recycling this one idea over and over and over again until their shareholders demand they stop.
As someone who loves Marvel and DC (slightly more of a DC nerd), I truly hope this all works, because the future of both the MCU and DCU could depend on the next 2 years' movies. As Feige always says, the two studios are NOT rivals. They both root for each other to succeed to keep Superhero movies popular. Plus, if the MCU can continue to succeed, and Gunns DCU becomes a success, who knows.... maybe one day we might ACTUALLY get that big crossover 🙏 (though I doubt it)
I think RDJ is great, fantastic, (no pun intended), and wonderful, (even Marvelous); but, I don't think he's a good choice to play Doom, and I fear where they may be taking the story. Plus, he's a great "get" but not if it bankrupts the studio. Doctor Doom is a great (terrible) character with a long history (since Fantastic Four number five) and introducing him late in his story, and diluting him with another character (Tony Stark) I think would be a mistake. But hey, as I've said many times over the decades, Marvel's surprised me before. As always thank you so very much for the videos.
Sad that this MCU phases don't seem planned at all, they just releasing things and maybe later see how everything works out, I don't feel nothing building now, but we shall see I guess
Marvel is on point. Comic accurate and solid, continuing character development. We don’t even know if RDJ is gonna look like Stark. All we have been told is He’s playing Dr. Doom. Poor writing isn’t hurting the MCU, speculation and false narratives are.
I think people forget how much audiences hated phase 2. Think about Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Age of Ultron. They got royally crapped on at the time and everyone was talking about how Marvel had peaked with the first Avengers movie. Then they started getting back on track with Winter Soldier, Civil War and Black Panther. So it’s not like the MCU hasn’t gone through this before. If the Russo’s do what they did in Infinity War and especially End Game, in which they gave callbacks to all those previous movies including the poorly received ones, the fans will act like it was all a perfect master plan and forget everything they complained about before.
I'd love him(RDJ) to play a more dark, evil, Ironman character variant like superior Ironman after the reset timeline I think he'd absolutely crush the role
RDJ is not playing a Tony Stark variant. He's playing Victor Von Doom. He is in the same universe as the Fantastic Four (which so far is known as 9997).
I think they’re gonna go with the Ultimate Universe idea where Reed Richards goes bad and wears that helmet. They’ll probably make an alternate universe Tony fall into 616, realize how he needs to see his plan through and end up becoming Doom.
I thought they were gonna bring him back as the hologram Ironman (idk what series it was from, I just know that Ironman died and he had an a.i hologram of himself that could pilot his suit)
What if Doctor Doom is Howard Stark’s son with Cynthia von Doom? This would give Doom more depth and connect him to Tony Stark, showing the similarities and differences in their paths. Doom grows up in a tough Roma community, discovers his Stark heritage after mother death. Goes to US and clashes with Reed Richards over Haward's mentorship. He gets rejected by stark and returns to Latveria, using science and magic to turn it into a high-tech utopia. In end of F4, Doom helps fight Galactus, but there is an incursion. In "Avengers: Doomsday," uses his Tony lookalike status to trick the Avengers so can save his world, but inspired by Tony, he ultimately aims to save both universes, leading to an epic showdown.
I may just be too big of a nerd, because I've enjoyed all of the Marvel shows and films, post End Game, but I understand the discourse in the broader, less focused MCU fandom. I'm excited about Doom (my fav Marvel Villain) finally entering the fray, but definitely a little disheartened by the casting. However, I sincerely hope the Russos and RDJ absolutely Kill it!! P.S. Dan Casey is a national treasure!!!!
Just to give him a different look I could see them utilizing prosthetics on RDJ given his acting history. That is, of course, if he’s not supposed to be some sort of variant of Tony Stark and just Doom original.
i dunno, gang... i still think RDjr should return as Dark Stark, having lost The Battle of New York, and going on to becoming the "benevolent dictator", becoming Doom... and to be taken out by the LEGIT Doctor Doom of The Fantastic Four.
Putting aside all the multiverse variant stuff, the main universe Doom and Iron Man are not THAT dissimilar. When you look at Doom in the comics, he basically IS Evil Iron Man (I'm still talking metaphorically). And as stated, RDJ is just THAT damn good of an actor. So, maybe they cast him as Doom for a reason OTHER than needing a publicity boost. Maybe writers just legitimately WANT to explore the greatest heroes going down the path of evil and what that means for them and their former teammates.
Super hero fatigue is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The fatigue if there is any is with lower quality stuff. Once a movie like Deadpool and wolverine happens the people that love and even just casually watch superhero movies flock to it. This idea that people just don't like superhero movies anymore is nonsense. Make good superhero stuff and people will keep watching. It's like saying there's horror movie fatigue. People don't just collectively get sick of entire genres especially when they already absolutely adores the genre. I'm always in a constant state of waiting on the next great thing in my preferred genres I don't just get sick of the genre.
In many tv shows back in the 70's & 80's, a guest may play 3-5 different characters in the series! The original Secret Wars was better than the remake!
But they didn't play the MAIN character. There is a difference. I'll have to see how they go about it but, at the moment, it seems they're fighting an uphill battle. I agree with one of the other commenters... they should've built Doom up over time just as they did with Thanos. Plus... is Doom going to stick around following Secret Wars? Or are they going to "go for the head" and dispatch him as they did with Thanos during Endgame? How many films are they going to be willing to shell out over $80 million to get RDJ to come back to? It's a question that has to be asked at some point.
Marvel Studios has had a great year so far with X-Men 97 a revival of X-Men TAS and Deadpool & Wolverine basically a year of X-Men and Mutants. The rest of the year is one show and 3 more animated shows, not too bad. Also I think another Doom could come down the line, have to remember there are multiple Doctor Doom's across the Marvel Multiverse and we don't know which Doom this is. This could be one of a couple Doom's one that is an Iron Man variant and another from the Fantastic Four's universe.
I wish they recasted kang. Such a good character who's going to waste. This could either be interesting or really bad. I guess we'll see if this was the best decision.
Good to see you back Dan! R.I.P. Kang Watch :( Looking forward to Fantastic Four First Steps kicking off the long awaited Marvel Babies arc RDJ for Squirrel Girl's favourite squirrel Monkey Joe!
I do not get the amount of hate RDJ as Doom is getting. As soon as I saw it I thought it was a great thing! It has a really good chance to be something amazing. New mask same task was just an amazing thing coming from RDJ.
You know throwing shade on Marvel Cinema for the bad choices that Constantin Film made with their rights to Fantastic Four just seems like kicking a franchise when it was cloned & already on the ground. Let's be honest, Fox hasn't always made the best choices with the Marvel characters they had the rights for & neither has Sony or Paramount.
Look i grew up with 70s marvel & DC. I like the Avengers film fine BUT how much mediocre comic book stuff will we stomach... And Doom is RDJr? WtF people is there an Actor shortage? Are we supposed to just go 'oh cool more RdJr. Thank you Disney'... So over this force fed pop BS... As bad as politics but Spandex😘
RDJ playing Doom let's them skip a bunch of character development. All the similarities between Doom andd Tony can be assumed by the audience, while the writers only have to highlight the differences.
The "MCU" was the Infinity Saga. That story was a huge accomplishment for Marvel Studios. The Multiverse Saga is their thank you/love letter to Marvel. The first part of the saga gave the supporting characters their spotlight and closure (Wanda, Vision, Bucky, Falcon, Black Widow, Hawkey, ect...). Then... No Way Home, X-Men 97, and Deadpool & Wolverine all paid tribute to the people and stories that made the MCU possible. It seems directionless and unconnected because it's not about a story or a character arc... the main character of the Multiverse Saga is Marvel. If the next Saga after Secret Wars is a re-booted new MCU... I think the big, bad, final boss of the Multiverse Saga is the original Avengers. Secret Wars will be basically, Avengers: No Way Home. Kate Bishop, Yelena, and Sam will have to fight their mentors; Clint, Natasha, and Steve. So, the perfect match for the Fantastic Four is Iron Doom.
I know I'm being optimistic, but I think this is good to have RDJ be the last big bad of this itteration of the MCU and using RDJ to give us at least a perception of a fully developed character is a clever way to get past the fact that we dont get several movies leading up to it setting him up like we did with Thanos and like they were planning on doing with Kang
Sadly, we'll never get an Avenger's & X-Men movie. No matter how much we may want it, the only thing that moves this industry is cash. And last time I checked the theatre industry is struggling.
Ugh, you guys too? Please stop with the clickbaity titles. This is driving me away from some of these channels that just complain about everything. Edit: and if I'M saying it's a bad pun, then it's a REALLY bad pun.
Despite all the opinions about everything MCU, I'm going to disagree we are at a low point. Take too long to explain but overall, variants and multi-verse travel saved the MCU story arch. Allows for more wilder, comic-adjacent movies that give characters in story rather than continuity of character growth. We were merely at a stalling point, wading the water with the limited series shows and one-off short films.
Civil War proved studios could work together to achieve something marvelous. It shouldn't end there. I may be alone in wanting an: X-Men & Avengers movie, but I bet there are plenty of people who would love to see that movie play out. The Multiverse can be anything you want it to be, it's a story that takes some thinking to enjoy.
honestly if I was in charge of the MCU right now hear how everything would have went down and got the fans excited again .first of all I will keep the kang story line going ..but only make kang the big bad of phase 5 and here are the remaining movies Captain America 4 Thunderbolts and fantastic four and avengers Kang dynasty Kang dynasty will explain where the fantastic four been at.. after the announcement I will announce that Dr Doom is the the true big bad of The saga and you'll find out who's the actor is in phase 6 here are some of my phase 6 lineups a Young avengers tv show have Ant-Man and the wasp be the mentors of the team Moon night season 2 blade mid night suns armor wars Shang chi 2 Dr strange 3 fantastic four 2 Spider-Man 4 Hulk movie. possibly X-Men with the original team black panther 3 Thor 5 or vs Hercules avengers Doomsday and avengers secret wars ..
@theuniversedoesntcare nearly a spinoff that has nothing to do with he joker. It's two scenes away from being a standalone movie with no relation to dc. Which is fine it's what they tried to do. Make a film that people can enjoy knowing nothing about dc
@theuniversedoesntcare for all we know joker could be fighting batman and Arthur is just a crazed fan that idolize the real joker.... idk I'm interested to see what they do with it though
I mean there have been versions of Doom that are Tony Stark breaking bad. It just means the movie is going to be predictable. Act 1: heroes gather and learn about Doom. Act 2: Heroes fight Doom, lose while learning its a version of Stark and despairing. Act 3: Heroes rally learning a lesson?( Sacrifices must be made, variants need to be judged individually, etc) and by narrow margins win. Post credits scene: the tony stark Doom variant is a low level individual on the multiversal council of Dooms, and the "real" Doom is prepping for Secret Wars.
RDJ is gonna play Dr. Doom, Black Panther, Naruto, Thor, Superman, Pepsi, Nike, and The Titanic.
Jeez, it's felt like forever since we've had Dan Casey leading one of these.
Bit annoyed that they couldn't just recast Kang (I mean, there are plenty of talented Black actors out there who could fill Jonathan Majors' shoes), but this casting does intrigue me. I look forward to seeing how they make Doom the new Big Bad over Kang.
Dooms casting identity of rdj should have been kept a secret until you watched the movie! Would have been a crazy twist
Even more crazy if this is a cover up n it's the return of Tony Stark. 🤷♂️
There is no way they would have kept it a secret
they need the world to know "hey, don't panic, we got Downey back, and stop calling it the M-she-U"
Yes, that's what marvel wouldve done pre-endgame. but now they need to build up hype. why else would they bring RDJ back for an iconic character? we have plenty of good actors that wouldve done a better job.
Except they need people to want to see the movie in the first place.......
"somehow Palpatony returned..."
Poppa Tony
Thank you for this, 😂
Underrated!
RDJ will do a great Doom variant but it would have been great if Doom had a Thanos-esque build up.
He'll still get a Thanos-esque buildup. Doomsday isn't scheduled till Phase Six, and he might not actually be defeated in Secret Wars.
thanos was only in infinity war and end game, first cameo wasnt even josh brolin. wtf are you talking about

I just hope RDJ uses his Sgt. Lincoln Osiris voice as Doom 🤞🤞
Just remember, all caps when you spell the man's name
Gonna listen to Madvillainy on repeat for the rest of the day.
Why do they feel that RDJ is the only person who can play Doom? I can think of several people who can play him.
Marvel is breaking the emergency glass
The guy in the video just said that....snd you comment like it's super witty.
Weirdo
*Takes off Doom's mask, puts on Stark's glasses* 🤔
Thank you to everyone who watched the video and everyone who didn't!
Not you! 😁
Listen, this video contains Julian McMahon slander and I am definitely not happy with you over it. XD
My like increased the count from 999 to 1K, I take pride in that
Some kind of prosthetic makeup on RDJ would potentially make Dr Doom a real different character that stands out, rather than just being some variant of Tony Stark.
They won't do that. RDJ is far too big a name for them to try that and get away with it.
Dan, haven’t seen you in a bit. Make more marvel/dc, Star Wars videos. You do very well and bring lots of knowledge
I'm glad we're not seeing Kang again. Not excited to see a guy who's lost three times and got beat by the ant guy 😂
My theory is that "New Mask, Same Task" is referring to the task of kicking off an era of marvel success. It's certainly a confident move if so.
I'm hoping its Marvel's version of Face/Off, where Doom is wearing Tony's face...for reasons...
Shoud of cast Nic Cage as Doctor Doom.
Said it elsewhere, but imagine if the RDJ reveal had been in an actual movie?
That would've been perfect
Ha! "DOOMED"! I get it 😁
Yeah....this is more 🗑 cheerleading from this rag.

MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS WAS NOT A SUCCESS… and to me RDJ coming back is indeed a last ditch effort from Marvel.
Kang will go down as the MCU's biggest missed opportunity, right behind an actual, real Dr. Victor Von Doom.
But why was the Secret Wars comic in the Void in Deadpool and Wolverine?
Dr Doom has not wielded Mjolnir. That was just a cover, inside the comic he couldn't lift it.
RDJ will be great as ever but its a stupid idea to cast him as doom. The man was iron man
Maybe. You should see it anyway, and write a review.
Not was. He is iron man.
Agreed. Reducing Dr. Doom to "iron man but evil" is a massive insult to the legacy of both characters.

I'll be paying my respects.
After watching Deadpool Wolverine… yes. Just reboot
Remember when Nerdist had videos coming out regularly? Me too! Now, it seems like Nerdist is "doomed" 😂
Sadly, we'll never get an Avenger's & X-Men movie. No matter how much we may want it, the only thing that moves this industry is cash. And last time I checked the theatre industry is struggling.
😢 "No risk, no reward."
Ugh, you guys too? Please stop with the clickbaity titles. This is driving me away from some of these channels that just complain about everything.
Edit: and if I'M saying it's a bad pun, then it's a REALLY bad pun.
He's back
Despite all the opinions about everything MCU, I'm going to disagree we are at a low point.
The Multiverse can be anything you want it to be, it's a story that takes some thinking to enjoy.
honestly if I was in charge of the MCU right now hear how everything would have went down and got the fans excited again .first of all I will keep the kang story line going ..but only make kang the big bad of phase 5 and here are the remaining movies
Captain America 4
Thunderbolts and
fantastic four
and avengers Kang dynasty
Kang dynasty will explain where the fantastic four been at.. after the announcement I will announce that Dr Doom is the the true big bad of The saga and you'll find out who's the actor is in phase 6
here are some of my phase 6 lineups
a Young avengers tv show have Ant-Man and the wasp be the mentors of the team
Moon night season 2

IS NERDIST NEWS BACK?! ANSWER ME!
DO NOT MAKE FUN OF GEORGE LUCAS!!!!! DONT!!! JUST DONT!!!!!!
Anyway at least we get a solo Joker Trilogy. That makes me happy.
😂
If you can actually call it the joker.
@@dylan15243 😔 Do elaborate?
@theuniversedoesntcare nearly a spinoff that has nothing to do with he joker. It's two scenes away from being a standalone movie with no relation to dc. Which is fine it's what they tried to do. Make a film that people can enjoy knowing nothing about dc
@theuniversedoesntcare for all we know joker could be fighting batman and Arthur is just a crazed fan that idolize the real joker.... idk I'm interested to see what they do with it though
Could be good but still think it would be good with a different actor and director
9:54 LMAO!!!!
Joaquin wins Oscar for playing the Joker.
RDJ, hold my beer
“Not your uncle Peter “
Tony was ALWAYS the Villain. Ask Wanda . . . and Ya Mama!
Fantastic box of scraps drop.
This video is so funny coming off of Deadpool
Why?
@@timz9862 The box office money Marvel just made.
@@timz9862 Because it’s about to make a billion dollars.
He becomes the villain because he looses it all while defeating Thanos.
