I was cleaning up yesterday and found my lunchbox CD set called Beg Scream & Shout “The big ol’ box of 60s soul. How I ever let this precious music get out of sight. . . gracious. I thought of you Corey and my fellow Congelio admirers when I heard That’s How It Feels by the Soul Clan. There is enough guitar mastery to feed a family of ten on this one recording. Yummy!

I've been wanting to step out to a local Blues Jam but haven't felt I have the skills yet, (or maybe it's just stage fright) So I'd love to see a lesson (or whole course) on how to fit in with the band. When to lay back and use triads and when to step out and tear it up with arpeggios and scales. How to play with a singer and how to follow a drummer and what to leave to the bass player. Keyboards? I'm lost. And all the HOW TO's of that. I've learned so much from you I feel almost ready to take it out to the world and embarrass myself HA. (hopefully not too much)
Great lesson. I have been practicing pentatonic scale and dominant 7 arpeggios and this really helped me see how to break out of that and start combining fragments. Also having fun with Corey's Complete Blues Vol. 1.

I assume the G Minor pentatonic is the scale you are alternating to between the triads. If not please let me know. :) This is my achiles heel and I am so greatful that you are giving me and the world access to this knowledge, and more importantly a practical easy way to start to use it. This lesson is so amazing because not only is the actual melody Corey plays quite simple, but it has SWING. So many blues players just hit the licks and play them without FEEL. Sure you can play the notes, but you gotta have SWING. Close your eyes, forget about the lick and how to play it, and just LISTEN. Put that into your playing, and you'll be a huge step above. And of course, Corey certain IS!

You are THE instructor in my opinion,but as a Berklee alumni (on sax though, now guitar) I'm wondering what you think about the general approach of mastering all theory and technique, and learning how to play later. What your path to mastering guitar? Did you really learn scales and triads, arpeggios and so on before you could actually play? I doubt it. But maybe that's a trade thing. Your bread and butter is the technical stuff. I quit TrueFire. As a Berklee alumni, I know all the theory I'm ever gonna learn, and have all the basics mastered. So isn't it time to play?
I love your ideas but they only seem to work with upbeat or funky blues. I can't seem to adapt these ideas to slow intense blues. Can you do a lesson on slow, deep blues?
In some lessons, I'll talk about how to adapt ideas to different rhythm feels. ALL musical ideas, licks etc can work over any type of groove, feel or style. This example is over a shuffle but, could easily be superimposed over a slow blues.
I've stated this before so if it sounds like old news........too bad because I feel this every time I watch one of Corey's new lessons! Two things: 1. Corey always makes us feel like he's just uncovering a new technique or blue note tone or concept on the guitar fretboard as he's explaining his great lessons but more importantly 2. Corey makes me want to expand or extend my own experimental playing on my own and keep asking myself "what if". What if I try another note in a scale or play a variance on the chord progression or play a different mode ............he keeps us all thinking and (hopefully) improving! Very cool - I've been using the minor triads with the minor pentatonic - but major triads with a minor pentatonic for 7 chords - that is cool. That in addition to bending the m3 -> M3 and playing the 6-1 for the 4th or bending the f7 for the 5th - triads would make it more intuitive. Thanks.
Corey, awesome lesson. Funny, I've been working on the triad/scale connection but using the major root, minor second and third, and major 4 and 5. Finding the connecting notes. Just need to work on triads all over the neck. You've given me some ideas to work on. Appreciate you my friend. Take care and thanks.

Nice work Corey! I've been making good progress on my soloing by focusing on smaller chunks of a scale, e.g. Root to Root or even less. Visualizing triads instead of the whole chord across 5 or 6 strings is another small chunk approach. Blending the two? Hey, that's genius! Thanks.
It’s interesting how TH-cam guitar channels fit for different people. I feel sorry for beginners because there is so much chaff out there but for intermediate players the good channels narrow rapidly and some players , despite being very good kind of miss getting the pitch right. They are either dumbing down too much or skipping essential information. I’d say this channel is one of the best I’ve seen for for the intermediate player. It’s just perfectly pitched. Kind of like a Jeff Mcerlain and ….erm I’m struggling to think of many others. Thanks for the data Corey

Great question. It's actually quite an arduous process of advancement. One of the tests is to respond to "douchey" comments and wait for my sensei's approval of the comment's content. Upon approval, we engage in a headwear ennoblement ceremony where I am elevated to the next tier. I'm extremely committed to this process and will not relent until Sombrero level is achieved.
