Joshua Graham and The Punisher Debate Justice

  • Joshua Graham, the Burned Man from Fallout New Vegas, and Frank Castle, known as The Punisher, dive into a profound debate on justice, redemption, and the burdens of a vengeful path. These two characters, voiced by AI, explore the depths of their convictions in a desolate wasteland. This thought-provoking exchange, rich with philosophical undertones and moral dilemmas, is a must-watch for fans of both universes.
These videos are written by me, and many of them are part of an ongoing, multiversal narrative. If you would like any characters to be added to the cast, particularly from gaming, let me know in the comments and I will try to work it into the story.

Actually Punisher i recent comics have been interpreted to be more morally dubious since a partial motivation for his war on criminals is because he enjoys war so much that he needs to continue fighting and killing to provide meaning to his existence.

@@hamizanyunos1502 Meh, that reason's honestly inconsistent depending on the writer. Sometimes he treats it more like a job and doesn't derive any enjoyment nor regret out of killing, sometimes he's just in a perpetual state of grief, sometimes he's motivated by what you just mentioned.

You can tell they put in effort into it. He tests the action, removes the magazine, checks for clearance and inspects the barrel, all in a couple motions, keeping all the rules of gun safety and doing it quickly. With that one animation they clearly establish him as someone who knows his way around a gun and someone diligent in their work. This whole debate mirrors the one between Punisher and Daredevil in the latter's respective show (which was also well written and even better acted)
Its the eternal question of not neccesarily what is justice and what is vengeance, but who deserves which and who should administer it. Its a very complex , but fascinating philosophical question.
And its wild that a YT video of 2 fictional characters explores it better than most media nowadays, to my knowledge anyway.

What I hate is how much of the current punisher media portrays him as a violent revenge obsessed bafoon. But historically in the comics he is massively intelligent, which is why I loved Thomas Jane’s portrayal. The Punisher is horrifyingly intelligent, he doesn’t just kill his enemies, he destroys them psychologically too. He also doesn’t kill out of pleasure, he kills methodically, and only when he needs to (unlike a current rendition of the Punisher). He is very emotionally reserved, rarely having outbursts of emotion (a clear sign of depression and PTSD, similar to the archetype of Mad Max). I can go on and on, but his character is very underrated and underrepresented outside of the comics.

Interesting. At first glance, Joshua stance vs Franks almost feels hypocritical when compared to how oppositional he was to Batman. But upon listening closely you'll hear he's coming from a more relatable stance to Frank, because of what he's been and has to go through vs never being a killer in the first place. It's kind of like when people who've never let's say played Basketball in their lives try to debate basketball to a former pro. He doesn't condemn Frank with his words but he definitely attempts to nudge Frank's worldview in a different direction. Which eventually would lead to not killing. Which in turn would prove Batman right, albeit as wishful of an ask it may be.

In the desolate hush of Zion's land,
A visitor stands, with a heavy hand.
"Ah, another traveler, what brings you here?"
Frank's voice cuts through, cold and clear.
"I met a man in riot gear, said I should come,
With a flash of light, now here I am, numb."
"Chalk led me to you, the burned man they say,"
Joshua Graham, with scars on display.
    "Your arrival’s no accident, Frank,
There are forces at play, though their motives are blank.
You were brought to me, perhaps for guidance or truth,
A mirror to show you the cost of your youth."
"I need no reflection, no spiritual guide,
My path is carved from the blood and the pride.
Justice is what I seek, no more, no less,
To avenge my family, to right this distress."
"Justice is fraught with peril, a path unclear,
I once walked in vengeance, consumed by my fear.
I served a warlord, believing in our cause,
But in the end, I was lost in the jaws."
"I'm not a warlord or a puppet on strings,
I’m a father, a husband, mourning what life brings.
The scum I pursue took everything from me,
And if blood must flow, then let it be free."
"Will your bloodshed fill the void of despair?
Or will it deepen the wounds that you bear?
It's not what you've lost, but what you create,
In the ashes of vengeance, can you cultivate?"
"I know your pain, I’ve walked through the flame,
Burned by the fire, I've carried the shame.
But redemption came not from the wrath of my fist,
But from nurturing life, from what I had missed."
"Vengeance and protection, can they coexist?
I protect the innocent by striking with a twist.
Yet fire begets fire, a cycle unending,
And at what cost is this war you’re spending?"
"You stand at a crossroads, as I once did,
One path leads to pain, the other to bid.
Peace can be found, if you dare to believe,
Not just for the world, but for your heart to retrieve."
"In this war, there’s no space for peace,
Not until the guilty face their release."
"Then you’ve chosen a war that never will cease,
For guilt will persist, and pain won’t decrease."
"The best we can hope for is justice divine,
Yet are we the ones to draw that line?
God has turned his back on the cries of the meek,
It’s up to the strong to act and speak."
"What of your life, Frank, in your quest for revenge?
You punish the guilty, but at what end?
I suffered and burned, but in pain, I found light,
True strength is enduring and holding on tight."
"You talk of redemption as if it's a game,
But I’ve lost my family, I’ve borne their blame.
When you lose everything, it’s hard to believe,
In ideals of humanity, in the hope to achieve."
"But those internal battles, they shape who we are,
In a world of misery, they can be our star.
Even the darkest night holds a flicker of grace,
And in our struggle, we find our place."
"Maybe you’re right, this light I can’t see,
But right now, it feels too dim for me.
So follow your path, I hope you find it bright,
The journey of men is to crawl towards the light."
"One day you’ll remember what home felt like,
And until then, know you’re not alone on this hike.
Others have walked through their own fires,
    Emerging reborn, igniting new desires."
"I’ll ponder your words, they resonate deep,
For in this wasteland, there’s much to keep.
But let’s shift our focus to matters anew,
    I don’t suppose you’ve a plan for what’s due?"
"Your journey back isn’t as simple as it seems,
You must find your own way, beyond your dreams.
No more flashing lights to guide you hence,
You’re a traveler now, in this vast expanse."
"You’ll make your way southwest, through Vegas’s sprawl,
To the Big Empty, where the past may enthrall.
A center of research, with technology grand,
To return you home, if you dare to stand."
"Why this trouble? What’s the intent of your guide?
Is it a message buried, a truth to abide?"
"Old World Blues speaks of those who can’t see,
The present’s reflection, the future’s decree."
"It’s a story you must live, not merely hear,
To understand the past and face your fear.
For your journey’s your own, the tale yours to spin,
In the Wasteland’s embrace, let the adventure begin."
"Thank you for your wisdom, your insight today,
Until we meet again, may you find your way.
The journey is daunting, the road may be long,
But in every struggle, we find where we belong."
"Until next time, Frank, may your heart stay strong,
And may your path lead you to where you belong."
"As you say, Joshua, I’ll take what I find,
For every echo carries the weight of the mind."

May I suggest Ulysses and Joshua Graham debating.

  • @Punisherfan123
    @Punisherfan123 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

This is a peculiar characterization of the Punisher. In the comics he genuinely enjoys what he does, and while he doesn't hate his family and still misses them, he doesn't really want them or a normal life back despite having enjoyed it and sometimes yearning for death hoping to be returned to it, but he doesn't wage war for himself and doesn't care for the cost to himself because he views it as necessary and himself as deserving of any suffering it brings. He considers Frank Castle dead and separate from the Punisher, and he's a Catholic who was going to be a priest before he became the Punisher, and while he views his work as justice he views himself as evil for doing it and even moreso for enjoying it and goes to confession on Sundays to pray for forgiveness even though he believes himself undeserving of it.

Idea for a video: someone (I personally imagine the SS from FO4, if they somehow crossed paths, as he was pre-war) asking Joshua how he could still believe in God after the nuclear apocalypse.
I don’t mean in a cringy Reddit atheist way, but in a “I can’t help but think god abandoned us.” way, a genuine crisis of faith.
Hence why I specifically imagine the SS talking to him. Maybe SS was a devout Christian before, until the bombs fell and their spouse was killed. (That’s my headcanon anyway)
“I used to be able to close my eyes and pray, but now when I close my eyes, I only see the bombs. When I open them up, I only see the destruction. I’ve tried so desperately to pray and believe, but He has abandoned us…and rightfully so.”
If you also subscribe to the idea that Male SS was a war criminal, he could feel like all of this was his divine punishment. (Adding a link between M-SS and Joshua.)
I’d love to see an interaction like this. A devout believer speaking to someone who lost their faith when he watched the bombs fall.

He can't seem to understand the character, and neither are we his friends, since we have no knowledge of him. But perhaps if he could watch this kind of video about him, his personality, beliefs and motivations would make him closer and more defined in what he tries to interpret.
