  • Ahhh.. the age old question in the Travato Community - which floor plan is better?
    We had the opportunity to meet up with our friends Jen & Deas Nealy recently who have a 2020 Travato KL, whereas we have a 2020 GL. We took a moment to talk about why each floorplan works for our unique needs.

    Thank you for posting this. Husband and I were fulltimers from 2010 to 2015 and have been following you all along and always learn something valuable. We're currently in the planning stages of our next nomadic adventure and have been having the camper van vs. motorhome debate so this gave us some more food for thought.

    Having looked at both floorplans at an RV show last year it comes down to personal preferences and how you plan to use it (as was made clear in this video). Also, as others have already commented, both models really work best for a solo traveler. Unless you want to stealth camp, any number of B-plusses/mini-Cs would work better for most couples. FYI: You can get the G floorplan in the 2021 Coachmen 24' CrossTrek model 21XG. It's much cheaper ($20K less than a used Travato) with huge tanks, lithium, no generator, AWD, dry bath, bigger bed, and loads of storage compared to a Travato. It's at the top of our list at this moment.

      If you're not constrained by size, that definitely opens up lots of options. We personally had a max of 21' we could go so we can park in marina parking lots wherever our boat is. It's been perfect for our usage, and we've done multi-month long extended trips in it just fine as a couple. The 21XG looks nice, but is 24' long - and the layout reminds me of a fairly standard corner bed Class-C arrangement, without the overhead bunk.

      @@Technomadia Thank you for the reply. I really appreciate the insights of long-term RVers and watch all your RV videos. A minor correction: The 21XG has a corner fold up murphy bed with the bathroom next to it just like the G Travato. The mattress is even the same shape, just a bit wider.

    Thanks guys!! We have 2002 Bayliner as well which we get to use at most 4 months of the year. With lifestyle change and more road trips, I have been looking at all class RV’s class b seems like a good fit then with research I see you have the exact one we like!!! Great minds think alike!! Will look more into 2021 models as the 2023 are very different. Thanks again. Maybe we will cross paths one day!!

      Lol for sure!!! I know you came up to the great white north already, but if you ever find yourself in Toronto let’s do a camping cruise on the Toronto island, one of our favourite places to go. Safe travels!!

    Thanks, but the KL is the clear winner for me, a tall single person. I would leave the beds in the twin spacious layout and work on a bed just as I do at home. I like having only the bathroom partitioned (far) away. I would stack up the spare short bed with inflatable kayaks and sailboats anchored with seatbelts. The small rear storage of the GL would never for instance hold the deflated catamaran Minicat 420 which has a coffin sized breakdown bag.

    Great video! The G vs K discussion is just like Apple vs PC or VHS vs Beta. I have a 2021 GL NPF and love it. I especially love the extra lithium battery. Having the front dinette makes a huge difference not only as a work space but also as second bed.

    It was interesting to watch but I just bought a Nexus Ghost 36DS. I'll be pulling a 4WD truck with a stand up cap on it so if I want to go off the beaten path I can. But if I was in the market for a Travato this would be a good video. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

    Thanks for the review! I feel there were some points missed for the K. In addition to the passenger side workspace, you can also work a laptop from the drivers seat spun around using the pull out table on that side, as well as set up the big table between the two beds for bigger projects or more dining guests. So in my opinion, the K is actually more versatile with regards to work space areas. When it comes to eating, we usually eat outside, weather permitting. So having a more comfortable lounging area for watching tv or reading, a more comfortable sleeping space, panoramic views and an open feel was way more important than having a permanent dinette. Also, not needing a pump to drain the shower nor a pump to drain the holding tanks was a big deal to me. Of course it’s a personal preference, as always, but as an experienced multi-RV owner of many years, the K floor plan was a no brainer for us.

      This wasn't a full review of either.. just two couple's sharing why they picked their layout :)

      @nwester4232 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Technomadia True :) It always depends on how you plan to use it and what works best for you. I just wanted people to know the K is not lacking in workspace, in case that was a concern.

    • @Technomadia
      @Technomadia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It lacks the type of workspace for the type of work we need to get done... and the sump pump really isn't a big deal at all (then again, we're boaters, that's just normal).

    • @nwester4232
      @nwester4232 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Technomadia It’s not an issue for most people, I’m sure. It’s just a leftover thing for me from previous RVs, when we would do full hook ups - hook up to water and open the grey tank so we could use water freely. I haven’t actually done that with our KL yet, but I like having the option. Not a big deal I guess, but given a choice, I would prefer no pumps.

    Looked at the K and vetoed it immediately because of the sleeping situation and the weird back bathroom setup. Husband is 6‘2“ and a tosser and a turner and that little narrow K bed was just not enough for him. Plus he’d be hanging off into the aisle and his covers would be falling on the floor as he thrashed around. And I could imagine myself trying to get flipped around to get over him, get my feet into the aisle somewhere, somehow to get into the bathroom at 2 AM.
    We took one look at the K and 👎👎
    The G’s Murphybed was also a disaster for two people because I am not a snuggler either. He’s a heavy sleeper, a thrasher, and I’m a light sleeper. But the G has the puzzle bed. I’ve modified it so I don’t have to carry the spanner piece that blocks the ingress and egress to the slider. It’s suboptimal, but it works. I do wish that the Solis Pocket had been available when we bought the G in early 2020. But that sadly didn’t come out for six months; I consider that to be the optimal arrangement for us - even without a bathroom or generator or any niceties. Bonus for us is that it has no TV/stereo. Waste of money for us. 2 1/2 years of ownership and we’ve never turned on the TV. There’s just no good place to lounge and watch in the G coniguration. And we can never agree on what movie we want to watch anyway! We’re better off with our individual Kindles and my iPad for entertainment. So we got the G for a different reason than you did. I wouldn’t say it gets two thumbs up, but we’ve made it work for us.

    😮I’ve had both and I don’t like the GL you have to twist your body around every corner it is very tight. I was much more comfortable in the K

      We've had no such issues with the GL. It's perfect for us, no twisting for us.

    Very helpful information. My wife and I are nearing retirement and I am looking closely at the Travato. I was leaning toward the K at first but now the G. My biggest concern is the bed being slightly smaller that a regular bed (by 5" in width). Can we sleep okay after being in a king bed for years. We will not be fulltime but plan to make 1 or 2 week trips. I'm thinking I may need to rent first to try it out, thoughts?

    • @Technomadia
      @Technomadia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally depends on how you sleep.. the G bed works great for us.

    I would be interested primarily on the dependability of the Fiat built van and secondly, is it easier to handle compared to the Ford E series. Of course, Econo vans have a long history for durability. My hope is for the reliability and drivability of a van like a Toyota mini van or anything Toyota. But not pulling a trailer.

    Yup! They Winnebago ruined the interior layout on the 2022 GL model. I guess the table could be switched for a bigger one but that is out-of-pocket cost and the missing ottoman, well it is gone. I have to see what else is there to make me consider it.

      We have made Sanford FL a home base for the duration of the pandemic. The past year has not been a good year to travel. We had our first shot last week, and have our second scheduled in 2 weeks.
