Which is the Best CLASS B for RVing (Winnebago Travato GL or KL)

  • In today's full time RV living, van life travel vlog, I team up with Scott from Go Small. Live Large! to do a Winnebago Travato GL versus KL video and decide once and for all which is the best full time RV Living Van Life Class b RV.
    Both of us live in our Winnebago Travato Class b RV camper vans. Scott has lived in his a lot longer though, so he's had more time to work out the kinks and knows his Winnebago Travato 59GL very well. Im a bit of an RV Newbie and am learning more and more about what I like and don't like every day of full time RV living and van life. While Scott and I both live in a van solo travel, our camping styles are a little different. Scott is more of a city nomad and I am more of an off grid nomad (although Scott's camping style is off grid a lot of the time in cities).
    Scott's Winnebago Travato 59GL has 4 distinct RV living areas, my Winnebago Travato 59KL has an open RV living floor plan. There is no right way to do van life or full time RV. You have to find the RV lifestyle and camper van life style that fits you.
    At the end of this vid Scott and I answer a bunch of common van life and RV living questions. Those question range in topic and include: solo travel, nomad, rving, rv travel, rv living tips, fulltime rv living, full time rving, rv newbie, and how to rv.

    Suggestion: instead of turkey or a whole chicken, just cook a Cornish Hen in your convection oven. They are delicious.
    Another suggestion……you can usually share your desktop on your computer to the newer smart tv’s remotely if you have a wireless router, or you can purchase a hdmi display adapter to plug into your tv’s hdmi port to connect your pc/laptop display.

      @@30AndAWakeUp thanks for the reply . I live in Ireland and have a 6m ( 19.5ft) coach built motorhome. It is a very comfortable inside however I would prefer a van conversion like yours however the whole European market for technology is so far behind the USA 🇺🇸 . The interior comfort of motorhome coach built type is very good though
      When it comes to van conversions the comfort level is very very basic and the idea of real independent living its miles behind ... there is no vehicles that have volt start with lithium batteries or air con or built in generators . It’s not so bad in Ireland 🇮🇪 but if you went to southern France or southern Spain 🇪🇸 on the Mediterranean in spring or summer it’s going to be way to hot with no real independent power to power aircon . Even if you goto campsites they limit the amount of power they give you .
      So the USA 🇺🇸 for free spirit independent living in all seasons is years ahead ... god bless America 🇺🇸 lol 😝

    Just saw this video in Scotts channel so thought I'd copy the comments...
    We rented the KL and loved the bed area... two people no problem and great TV view in bed.
    That said, I did not like the cramped feeling in the front. I think the GL has a much nicer living space.
    The KL kitchen sink is very nice, but don't like the small fridge... GL hands down for that. Have to agree with Kevin about the propane stovetop... induction would make more sense for us.
    Bathroom.... yeah.. GL wins. That back toilet right next to the doors is weird. It also got very cold when the temperature dropped to 28 degrees one night.
    Fantastic video... one of my favorites!

    Loved this video with both of you speaking on your likes and dislikes, it will help with my decision on my future campervan (solis pocket 36a) purchase, I will start with trips to awaken the kid in me, will be 60 in December. I am definitely one that will be staying near the dealership to go over every inch of the van and ask a million questions. That way I'll know what I can fit in the van. I am so curious about spaces and seeing first hand what they can hold like the pizza oven, the space in the back from the bed to the door, head room on the bed if any, where would I put a TV because I tire easily of looking at laptops and phone screens. I honestly want a van so I can drive and park anywhere, sleep comfortably in it, cook meals, have refrigerator space, clean my self, I will get a water heating system like I saw someone do, and a collapsing tub cause I won't be showering outside, and figure out the toilet situation with the porta potty. Possibly a powerstation for times I can't plug in. Knowing myself I might get something for more freezer space and ice. I also want the option to not pay for a motel or the like once I get to a destination. Plus, having the van I'm already set should I choose van life or should there be a resident evil situation😅 thanks for this video!!!

I'm picking my GL up next week in Houston and was hoping there were some places closer to Texas that may be able to do it. Surprisingly, google search hasn't helped me much and the dealer doesn't know of any. I don't think Houston is a great place for after market changes.

    Can you suggest anyplace to find a used Travato or are they just too scarce. I've searched the rental route in my area of the the Southeast, and any type B's are just not there.

      My advice would be to join the Travato Owners and Wannabe Facebook group. People advertise their rig for sale on there all the time. You can also mention that you are new and looking to buy a used rig on that page. If you buy new...negotiate with a couple different dealerships and see what the cheapest you can get is.

    Pro tip, if you want to cool you van, do not buy a dark color exterior, if you have a white or as close to white as possible, your cooling will drop by 20-30 degrees just by reflecting the heat, long time Miami living has taught me white is the only color for a hot sunny climate. It's far easier to heat a van in the cold with a white van than try to cool a dark van in the sun.

    To me, the K is the best floorplan. The only thing I don't like so much is the size of the fridge. But, while traveling in most places, there are stores on every corner. So, that I can deal with. The openness of the K and the twin beds and rear bath is what I like most.

  • @danleonard3600
    @danleonard3600 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok Kevin I have a very important question. I am seriously looking at buying a 59k. I don’t like the fridge size but can probably live with it. There are some other trade offs as well. One thing I can’t figure out , is there a place that would store my golf clubs without them always being in the way. Roughly 1 foot by 1 foot by 4 foot give or take. I’m a couple years away but doing research for now. I need Scott and his tape measure lol.

    • @30AndAWakeUp
      @30AndAWakeUp  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is storage underneath the passenger side bed that would probably fit your clubs. Aslo...I think they might fit above the cab is you had a collapsible bag. Also, the top cabinets are pass through...so you can probably fit them up there as well. But there is no real defined space to put them on here.

    • @toycarcollector
      @toycarcollector 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@30AndAWakeUp You could have a cabinet person customize the rear closet. It is not a particularly handy design. 3 shallow drawers on the bottom half and the top is an open space. After this video I was thinking it would be a great space for a large fresh water tank.

    I have the 2022 KL. I LOVE the shower... But I had to figure out the secret: use the magnets. My first shower was disappointing because the curtain kept swallowing me & hugging me (sticking to my body). I'm 6'2" 240. The next time I secured the curtain using the 'chess pieces' magnets. What a difference! I now love the shower.

    We actually agonized over buying the K vs G after having a twin bed pleasure way class B for 20 years. We ended up with a 2023 59G as we opted for the separate front "living room" so one can work up front, watch TV during late night or get up early morning so my spouse can sleep in back without interruptions. It's a different change but has worked out so far. We still do miss the twin bed at times.

    When they spoke about going into the van and practicing doing every day tasks ,they didn't talk about the sleeping situation. The advice I always give to newbies is to kick your shoes off and climb into bed and try it out. Being able to sleep well will determine a good trip or a horrible trip. I remember going to RV shows and my kids running out from the vans in horror as I kicked off my shoes and tried out the beds . Good times. Good times.

    Great comparison of the two models without egos getting in the way-- both are great for different reasons and you both could admit that about the other's choices! I heard you mention the TOWB FB group for the first time & I have wondered since I heard you list all of your K bathroom quality/design issues if you watched their dialog. Do you know about the K shower modification that is popular on that site? If you haven't seen it and can't find it when you search the group, I'll ask them if I can post the link to your channel so others can see it (the group is private.) I think it would help you like your own shower a LOT more so you can avoid more bathhouses.

    Since you are both Winnebago fans, perhaps you could help me understand why you chose Winnebago over the other brands. I confess that I haven’t been to a show and climbed up into any of them. But Winnebago makes one called Era which is slightly larger than Travato. Then they do nothing but squander that extra space. No extra fuel capacity. No extra water tank. Really? It has two extra bucket seats for two adults who bring their own water. They make another model to demonstrate what not to do with a class B design? Then I see something like the Mini Winne that’s no larger than a Travato, and it has ample fuel, ample water and crazy storage and space in a tiny class C. How can you trust anything they do? I personally want to see a Coachmen Beyond which seems to have the best of Travato and beyond.

      Honestly, it was all about the Volta system for me. At the time no one else had it...now only one other manufacturer has it. There isn't any power system that is even close...so that's the biggest reason I went with the Travato.
