Thank you for the review and comparation. I just got Insta360 one X2 a couple month ago. I think for people who already have it, you don't need to upgrade it yet since X3 is mostly upgrading on practicality like buttons and screen. The resolution is still the same. Slighly better - yes, but not much a difference. I'm happy with my X2!
I’ve never seen your channel, but I appreciate the casual yet intelligent and well put together details. Well spoken and straight to the point…. Thank you!
I bought the X2 less than a year ago and in retrospect I am still very happy with that decision. The larger screen, in my opinion, is more of a concern as there is more surface area for the screen to crack. It's an action camera after all so I actually like the smaller screen on the X2. In the end it seems the upgrades are purely for convenience, making it easier to access certain functionality. Aside from all this, thanks for this and all your great reviews Jeven!
Agree it has a bigger screen to crack but they did build it to be rugged so it should be able to take a few hits and be fine. The big thing I noticed is the footage looks cleaner and colors more accurate when doing the side by side. However, I've shot a ton with the X2 and its still a solid camera so either way I think they work great for getting those 360 style shots.
Was lucky i got a sale on the X2 a month ago from best buy..this a fun 360 camera..but image quality still suffers vs regular action cams..looking into the new Osmo action 3 vs Go pro hero 11
Just researching. Having trouble deciding between which to buy. Normally the newer but there doesn't seem to be a huge difference. The prices in my area are X2 cost $350 and x3 cost $510... I see improvements but not sure if its worth 1/3 more.
You are the channel I go to when a new camera is out. Always real and honest. You always explain and show. Other big channel always show a bunch of footage and that's it.
There are some functionalities that matter and simplify the usage (like those presets) but in terms of video quality, we still need to wait for longer... 600 bucks are not justified for that upgrade, IMHO. there will be still a lot of situations/conditions where it won't perform better. I think NOW there is a good chance to get a new X2 with a very interesting discount.
I think it's better to focus on camera quality than upgrade to this huge screen, because with the 360 camera, you don't have to worry too much about the viewing angle.
The x2 can also use just one lense at a time I think its called 120° view. For blogs like filming, you missed that somehow also I think the mic on the 2x sounds better. Nice to have a bigger screen but at the same time it becomes more fragile. Not shore if the upgrade its worth it for most 2x owners.
I've had the one X since it came out and love it. Still haven't damaged the lens! So, I often walk with it in forests. Once I frame the 360 to 1080p, the details that I see on trees isn't as good as I'd like (I've been a forester for 50 years) - pretty good but not good enough. I had been thinking of springing for a dedicated 4K camera then I heard about the X3 which can use a single lens at 4K. What I'd like to know is- will the detail with the single lens at 4K be much better than framing a 5.7K 360 to 1080p? And, with single lens- how will it work with the selfie stick because the camera will need to be vertical. I've seen people put smart phones on selfie sticks and they can adjust the camera so it will be vertical. I suppose I could hold it straight up or down or sideways but that's inconvenient. Or, use it on a chest or head mount.
I noticed towards the end of the video, you only included the audio from the X3, not the X2. does this mean X2 doesn't have audio? not that it matters, because i plan on using this on a motorcycle and i'm sure the wind noise is nuts
3:35 interesting. My X2 is more sharper than yours. Maybe focus issue, overheating after a few minutes, just like my previous cam.. Normal X2 is way sharper than here.
Really useful review. Do you know how well it functions near water? Will the touch screen still work with splashes? My kayak videos are often ruined by water drops on the lens, does this sort of camera suffer similarly? Many thanks!
Great review! I have two x2's for reliability reasons. Also since I scratched the lens on one(!). My main problem...is the bandwidth/speed for video download between camera and iPad/iPhone. Nice to have a big screen - but not important.
So is the final edited video 5.7k but the original 360 raw footage higher megapixel? It has dual 48mp sensors. So does is record raw 96mp of info then edit it back to 5.7k? Or does it dump resolution straight away when you record?
It does 8k time lapse (not sure if 360 or single sensor). My guess is that still too much processing power needed to go over 5.7k continuous video. So it might over sample or pixel bin to get to 5.7k. Would be good to know.
It has to record video in a significantly lower resolution. There is (at least currently) no way to process and store two 48MP video streams (more than 8K) in such a small device with its small battery. The ONE X2 uses two square video files 2880x2880 (8.3MP), the ONE RS 1-Inch 2x 3072x3072 (9.4MP). Furthermore, not the whole square area is filled with the image, only a circle inside.
I'm considering something like this to wear on by Bicycle helmet for my commute as a just in case camera, the amount of near misses and road rage something that captures absolutely everything would be perfect
Jeven! As an action camera wouldn’t be preferred a smaller screen since is less likely to crack?… I mean the bigger screen is nice but dropping the camera will be more likely to break?
That depends very much on the framing you choose. In my opinion, a decent action cam (even something older like a DJI Osmo Action) almost always has a better image quality for "classic" action field of view. The improved single lens mode gives you better stabilisation than a GoPro, but all in all less clarity and detail. If you want to publish "real" 4K quality, a consumer-level 360 camera like the X3 might disappoint you.
Ok. So I’ve been wanting one of these for a while now. Didn’t know the x3 even came out 😂 but I’m a truck driver so keep that part in mind….I want to mount it on my metal mirror bracket…so how will it stand up to heavy snow driving, with ice…,high winds at time for some places I got up to 100mph+ winds. Will it survive a 11-14hr drive day weather wise? I’ll run a charging port to it. But trucking durability?!? Probably mainly use for like hyper speed videos , time lapse stuf like that?!? Good Morning, Jeven. Thank you for this hands-on comparison of the Insta360 X3 to its predecessor X2. You shot some fantastic footage in this comparison. The float plane shot is wicked. I do like the larger touchscreen and features. I may have to look into this once I've had the chance to review more tests and reviews. Take care, and stay cool during these hot and humid days.
@@ChristopherOdd the screen and menus, 4k single lens, 8k time lapse, me mode, 3k 180fps (much better for slow motion), far better sound. Lighter, so if you hang it at the back of the car is easier to anchor. Easier to vlog with because of me mode. I have a sony a6400 to vlog with and this for more action oriented stuff, but if the image from the x3 is good enough, I might phase out the sony. Weight and size is important. If you go to the local shop with the x3 the owner might say you're crazy but with a fully fledged camera, they might not want that. The 1 inch just has better video quality due to bigger sensors. Also, you can use the core to modulate what camera you want. Other than that I don't think is superior in other ways. It's basically a one RS with a bigger sensor.
