    This news really changes everything
I cant believe how wrong I've been
Convenienced myself we shared the same feelings
I wont make that mistake again
She's happy and care free the opposite of me
    I can do the calculus
for her I set aside my need to analyze now I'm wrecked and searching for why
    I'm the ex
I've got no one but myself to blame
    I've betrayed my core philosophy
An ending reason must be marginal
Lest I drown in this sea of pain
    I'm so dysfunctional
    Weak and emotional
    Feelings I just cant contain
Escaping this misery or breaking free not a possibility
I solve for why in my computation
    But missed vital information
    The variable so devastating
    I'm the ex
    I'm the ex

If you turn on the subtitles on Paramount+, the first verse is "I'm the ex," and then the ending is "I'm the X." Such a beautiful play on words showing his transition from the more human emotional reaction of getting dumped, to the more Vulcan analytical reaction of realizing he's the variable.

And I don't think Christine will ever forgive herself for how she chose to handle breaking up with him once the whole whirlwind romance and aborted engagement with Roger Korby shows her that Spock - flaws and all - was always the right choice. It's an rather interesting way to allow for TOS Chapel's pining for Spock to be re-contextualized as a woman working alongside someone she once loved and lost through not fighting harder and believing BS about not being meant for one another, trying to get him back and the guy politely stonewalling her because of the pain she caused him.

Thats Baritone. It is my preference in music too. Started with Frank Sinatra, believe it or not. But in electronic, rock and love metal, was a "hybrid son" of Frank Sinatra with Depeche Mode and Type O Negative in the mix ( early Type O Negative). There are a lot of bands using that now. But they usually dont get the fame they deserve. Underrated. Most from Finland, but sing in English : Charon, For My Pain, Negative (baritone but tries to go more Mid range), The 69 Eyes, Lacrimas Profundere ( 1st Vocalist and early albuns with the second one), HIM, and my own personal attempt "cough cough" My Deception. But there are more, that I keep forgetting... Oh ! Tunes of Dawn . And in Electro there are a lot of German bands. I can only remember Covenant, (not Kovenant), Diary of Dreams...

00:35 - That "Calculus" and "Y" line reference was a "bar".......I straight up paused the show and dropped my jaw, as Spock started dropping the mic. Loved the Lyricism displayed here kudos to the writer Pusha T level stuff....and yes the same melody but slowed down as Chapel's song earlier "I'm Ready"....showing Spock's more somber and deeply hurt 'flip-side' of the emotions she was having.......and yes all true Star Trek fans will be humming this tune at work for a long time to come.....don't apologize Uhura for those ear-worms!!!!!.....LOL!!!!

      @WilliamAFerguson ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@commenter4898 I'm Ready is in the key of A, I'm The X is F#m, the relative minor chord to A.
This is primarily why we have major/minor keys in music. As someone once told me "It's not so much what keys you play but WHY you play them".
The F#m chord and the A chord have the following notes in common:
      A
      C#
These two chords share these two notes, A and C#. The F#m chord is spelled F# A C#, and the A chord is spelled A C# E. So, the A and C# notes are the common tones between the two chords.

Shit like this happens, most TV shows deals with romance that way (it comes and goes). However, this is a prequel, so the fans (and even newcomers like myself) were aware about Spock's future. I do think it's a bit premature to cut off this romance at the root, because there was a chance this series could lead into a alternative time-line... which is the safest choice by the way, gives more freedom for the writers to go bunkers... but nope, the writers decided to stay true to the source, completely destroying the Spock and La'an respective romances, it was a bold choice
