Aside from the wonderful performance and songwriting, a great thing about this episode is that the lyrics of each song gave us amazing character development--especially this song. Uhura is still dealing with the trauma of losing her family and she's always felt alone, especially after losing Hemmer. And she eventually realizes that her new family is the Enterprise and she is the glue that keeps them all together. We are witnessing a cathartic moment for an iconic character, and I would argue that such a moment is probably best expressed through song.

I rolled my eyes, and assumed SNW had run its course, and would probably be gone in a year or so when I heard they were doing a musical. I begrudgingly watched it with the tiniest, slimmest, microscopic hope it wouldn’t end the series. All that said, I loved it. Watched it 3 times, and pick up something new I didn’t notice each time before. It even moved me to tears at points. The talent just overflowed onto the small screen. Simply perfectly executed in every way. A top 10 all time Trek episode.

This is the reason why I learned that expectations and assumptions would lead to stress and disappointment and missed opportunities. I didn't even know they were doing musicals since I kept myself in the dark about production news or theories or promotion materials. I just take things as they come. And I was genuinely surprised when Spock started singing and I immediately curious about where this episode will take us. And I enjoyed every second of it.
Can you imagine if assumptions and expectations take over your own mind and you decide that if you hate musical and have no place in Star Trek universe and you end up skipping the episode to jump straight to the season finale. How many things you could have missed. This is why I keep an open mind about everything in life these days. Open minded about different concepts, different philosophies, different point of views. I may dislike or disagree with some of them. But at least I made a decision "after" I gain knowledge of them and not make presumed assumptions before knowing about them.

Initially I wanted to just skip this episode because I already know too much rolling-eyes-episodes (after watching Discovery lol 🙈) in general. But I decided to watch it and do something else in parallel. Well it caught me and now I don't get enough from Uhura's performance and must watch it all the time 🥺 I have to admit, it's one of the best episodes ever 🙈

One thing that strikes me is how much Uhura has grown in confidence since Season one.

This show is just amazing. Ive been a fan of the Trek since the original series. Its been so long since a show like this one with an ensemble cast like this one has made me feel this good. Like so many others have said when I heard this episode was here I dreaded it but Im really impressed and it really makes me feel good.
and this episode was really great and this performance was spectacular and a highpoint for the shoe, the season and the franchise.

One thing Star Trek has always had was music. From the original TOS "theme" to TNG's "new version" of the theme (which gave me cold chills the first time I heart it in a good way), to Voyager's "French Horn" section, to the singing Doctor, to Data singing at a wedding, to the heart warming flute solo of Captain Picard, to DS9 having performances in the holosuites, to "Shadows of the Night" in Picard, to many other episodes, and now in SNW. Music is nothing new in terms of Star Trek episodes or movies (i.e. the end of WoK). Having said that, I absolutely loved this episode and the chance they took with it. While I wouldn't suggest that every episode be of this nature: at least now the writers have a "lighted path" to include music later at some point should the story call for it. Nevertheless, this has to be one of my favorite episode of SNW!!!

Just leaving aside the actor's fantastic voice for a moment, the Engineering set in the background of this number is absolutely mind-blowing. Not sure if it's CG, but if it is the cordination in post to get all the reflections on the floor and in monitors is amazing. If it's a virtual wall (ala The Mandalorian), the way that it moves with the camera to give a sense of true depth is incredibly impressive. If it's practical... WOW!
Compare and contrast to Scotty's weird little room in TOS, but also to the Engineering set on the 2009 Star Trek movie. It was a thinly disguised brewery (and sorry JJ but that's exactly what it looked like)
