    This is the all-new Honda Civic Hatchback Sport, and it's 1.5L Turbocharged engine with 6-speed manual transmission, the first time Honda has offered that combination on our shores. It has the same wheelbase, width, and roughly the same low weight as the Civic sedan and coupe, and the sport trim gives you aggressive bodywork, blacked out wheels, and the optional six speed. What we find is that it's very easy to drive, efficient, reasonably fun, and offers the space of a Focus or Jetta at the price, and weight, of a Fiesta.
    Honda provided the car, insurance, and a tank of gas for this review.

    I love that Honda doesn't put stupid giant plastic engine covers on their cars.

      Simon Coles don't like it, pull it off. usually that's to reduce noise and make it look better. the one on my vw cc is just over the head. on the under side it sound proofing or whatever you want to call it. it literally pulls off in 5secs. some cars might be mounted on with a few screw's like my old gti but still could have it off in maybe 2mins. I prefer them on there with cars switching to direct injection

    • @PianoandCarcrack94
      @PianoandCarcrack94 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      its there to reduce injector ticking noise with DI cars. especially americans complain about that noise, claiming it sounds like a diesel. i'd rather have it than not

    It's been 4 years since I purchased my Civic. Originally coming from an Acura RSX, I naturally wanted an si coupe but was itching for extra space I had from a ford explorer I used to own. The hatchback seemed to meet the best of both worlds for me, so I got the sport hatch with the 1.5 turbo and 6 speed manual.
    I'm sitting around 68k miles and the car has had no reliability issues whatsoever. I have taken it on many multi-state trips over 1,000 miles each and the car eats it up no problem with decent economy. The car has only been to the tire shop and a mechanic once for brakes service. Other than that, just simple oil changes and tire rotations have done this car great. I'd also like to mention I installed a KTuner stage 2 tune on the car and it is now faster than an si with 220 hp and 260 lb/ft. Car still purrs along and takes it like it's nothing.
    I agree on the seats being a weak point on this car. The lack of lumbar and the rough-feeling cloth don't really help on longer trips, but it doesn't dig in too much to the driving experience as it rides well over 95% of bumps with the 18" wheels.
    This car is a beast for what you pay for, though. Throw some stickier tires and a tune on it and it's essentially my own "si hatch" with around 220 hp and 260 lb/ft. Has very good road mannerisms at any speed. Fastest I've been yet is 147mph on a closed track, but definitely could hit around 160 if given enough straightaway space. If you add the CTR rear sway bar and an aftermarket front strut tower bar it'll handle near perfect for most people.
    If anyone is in the market for a 10th gen civic hatchback, get one. 11/10 best car I've owned to date and would probably buy again.

      schnizdawg if "selling out" is an enthusiastic ad that takes less than a minute and it affords him the money to keep doing this for a living, then I don't know why that's a bad thing. It's not as if skin care products are going to shape his opinion on a civic or some shit. Besides, he's been doing ad reads on the podcast since the beginning, does that mean the podcast is a sellout platform, too? People gotta make money somehow. TH-cam makes that more and more difficult every time they change something, so who gives a shit if Matt reads an ad? Come the fuck on now.

    • @ThisGuyDrives

    Why is everyone acting as if this is supposed to be a "hot hatchback". This is just an economy car. They aren't gonna sound great or be that fast. Judge it as a sports car when the si and the type r come out.

    I really think Honda should've given this car (Hatchback Sport) the Si's numbers (205hp/192lb/tq) Given the Si more like the Focus ST's numbers (220-230hp/240-250lb/tq) and then you have the 300 HP Type-R, as is! - I think with all those cars Honda would be WAY more competitive in each of those respected segments!

    The cyclist "didn't really need to do that" (take the whole lane when it wasn't safe for you to pass). How the hell are they supposed to know that you're a conscientious driver? They're exposed on a 20-something pound bicycle while you're in a 2,800 pound car revving the sh!t out of it as you come up behind them. Give them a break dude. Don't bemoan the lack of leather with the manual transmission. In my view leather is unnecessary, is less sporting (you slide in the seat), is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. If I could have every car in my future without leather I would prefer it that way, unfortunately most manufacturers assume higher priced cars must have leather or faux leather seating.

I plan to do it to my sport touring civic hatch. You will get even more power with intakes and down pipes. )0-60 drops to 5.7-6.2 depending how far you want to mod it. i imagine 6.2 would be the tune alone and 5.7 with all the bolt ons. That's not bad for a 1.5 Turbo. That would about equal the WRX CVT

    I drove the CVT version at the LA Auto Show. Granted I was let down because of it being automatic, but was pretty shocked at how quick it was once full boost hit. I mean, all you really need to do is do some coilovers, performance tires, short throw shifter, and lighter flywheel to make it a much more fun daily driver than what is offered already. A tune, CAI, and exhaust as well to let it breathe more and gain a bit more power, too.

    Why in the hell does the car weight 500+ pounds more than the 90's Honda's, but the 90's Si, and SiR Honda's ran 180-200 hp WITHOUT turbos? Cars are suppose to get better over time not worst. Like the C5 Z06 had 450 Hp, now the C6 base model has 450 HP. Is everyone becoming a stupid SJW? This car was a SJW move -__-
    I'll be glad when they go out of business, because if this the type of shit we have to look forward to for the next decade, then as far as im concerned Honda Motor Co. no longer exist.
    And even though the TYPE R version has more horsepower to compensate for the weight gain, but they could've made the drive train AWD at the very least.
    It's a shame normal everyday people have better designs and ideals than the people who actually work there. #BoycottNeoHondas
    P.S. Matt, sometimes u need to stop being so politically correct.. If I was reviewing this car, I would have called it absolute shit, and I wouldnt care who was watching.. Maybe then, Honda may start making shit that people actually want, like they use to do.

      For what it's worth, I think as weight goes up, so should power to at least make up for it. This is nowhere near as fast as an old 2000lb 200hp car, and regular large V6 sedans can be had around 3500-3800lb but with over 300hp so the power to weight ratio is much better.

    • @jaybelurkin
      @jaybelurkin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Daniel thats my point exactly. And since these new Hondas are turbocharged, re-tunning the boost, air to fuel ratio etc, all can be done without adding that much more to it, yet they choose to make this car the worst Honda ever built from a performance/ weight standpoint. smh..

    I have a 2017 civic sport hatch manual like your old white one . Its only 13 months old and the front floor mat already has a hole in it ! It took my 2000 civic SI 15 years to wear out the floor mat ! The interior and the paint job on this car (its black ) is so cheap man if you vacuum it too hard the sides near the doors caves in ? anyone else notice this on their 10th gen civic?

    good styling, good price. poor options, poor performance, poor transmission, poor suspension, sounds like they need to go back to the drawing board if they plan on calling this a "sport" model. hopefully upcoming models will get tweaked for 2018-2020

    I know this old but I could help but notice how close the jeep was parked behind this car in the thumbnail😂
