I think that comparatively kai's skin IS slightly tanner, but imo he's also the hottest exo member and im glad kai has learned to embrace his skin tone
(Im Asian) My skin color isn’t even dark I get made fun of or being “black” and I’m not even fat (I weigh 100 lbs and I’m 5’ 1) well at least my friends say I’m not but I get call black, fat, ugly, etc by my family. I know when some are joking or when they’re not but either way I’ve been told this ever since I was 7 up until now. Honestly I have pretty bad confidence, I just wish Asians don’t have HIGH HIGH standards for beauty. Most of the time when people tell me this stuff now I go to my room and cry. Now I think that beauty is not defined with femininity, masculinity, weight, height, etc. 💗 edit: Well i forgot i commented this- I dont have to say what i do weigh now but its more than 100 now lol. Anyways still going on but i dont give a sh what they say now so :]
When kai said "i dont have any plans to become paler" it was the best thing i hope people who look up to him and have been teased for their skin tone learn to love themselves. Also what exo was doing was not racist but was colourist

Why do u look like that u should not stay too much in the sun! And u look burned I feel offended tbh these kind of people don't make me comfortable coz I know their standards are so fucked up and need to be educated
it sucks because in Korea, they seem to associate darker skin with more sexy and chic concepts and lighter skin with more beautiful and cute concepts, when in reality it doesn’t matter on the shade of your skin.
@Mariah Palmer Of course it’s not, because it’s rude and disrespectful no matter if your pale or dark. I’m just stating the fact that just because someone doesn’t fit a beauty standard doesn’t give you a right to make fun of the color of their skin or to tell them they’re not pretty just because they don’t match the standards and to be more open minded of others. I’m not saying that people with pale skin don’t get bullied also.
@@reemtsuki795 u not seeing it from all perspectives just because they have a beauty standard dont mean everyone has to follow them and it doesn't make it right to shame something thats different from it either they literally bully and make fun of darker members or the ones with more weight and thats not right so yea ur literally defending them😐
i'm an asian and it's very common here that "the paler you are, the more beautiful you are" kinda thing and it is sickening, i myself have tan skin and my skin is darker than most of my friends and i often got teased about it since i was so young and i was always insecure about it. but the more i grew up the more i love my skin color, just like kai said : i don't have any plans to become paler
My eldest sister was also teased about her dark skin from when she was just a kid to now when she's married. She also felt insecure about it and used to buy whitening products till this day. She also been called ugly and 'not that pretty' bc of her skin colour. The most annoying thing is that half of my own family members and all our reletives are the ones always making remarks about her skin and they don't know what they're doing is not right(idk how but...). Plus, I'm also from asia.
@@Cocotubeline sameee me too, mostly are from relatives istg idk what’s wrong with asian’s family are sometimes toxic and soooo close minded. i got teased by my grandma’s sisters bc i use a darker toned foundation than all of my cousins and kept on telling me to use whitening products more, i remember it was thanksgiving and i couldn’t handle the bullshits so i went home by uber all by myself lol
I'm a very pale European with a lot of Chinese colleagues, and pretty much all of them have commented on my skin tone being 'ideal' or 'pretty', it's so weird to me. One girl didn't want to go out in the sun to picknick cause she was scared of getting a tan, while here that's literally the beauty standard :/
I'm sorry to say this but from MY EXPERIENCE Canadians(Yellowknife) were racist as HELL to me and almost every other black person I knew there. Like seriously wow... they were just straight up racist... like not even tryna hide it... they were more racist to me than the locals in Texas... like darn!!! ( again from experience they are racist too)I just came for a short visit and it was almost ruined because of the strangers passing by and saying " yo yo what's up girl" " I play basketball and eat watermelon" They acted like I was the only black person in the entire city... and they even do the same to ther random black ppl too!!!! But obviously I'm not saying ALL Canadians in Yellowknife are racist. They were a few nice ppl. I just dont think slave history is taught as much in Canada and they have less education on it, although they're parents shoulda taught them better...
Because Wendy lived in Canada for most of her childhood, she was asked to show how people (black + white) behave there. It was a stereotype based on what she experienced there.
I think a lot of people in general wouldn’t hold another race to their beauty standards like they would for someone from that same ethnicity/race (I’m excluding racists from this).

@@Sana-jc9xc These weren't all the clips and these colorist comments extended well past 2013 (those radio clips were Call me Baby era); and I didn't even see some of the worst ones in this video. There was even a pretty bad one just last year. Its shocking to think that EXO barely did any interviews/variety shows, and still every other one there was a colorist comment towards Kai's skin. Imagine what was said when the cameras weren't on. And the footage from EXO Showtime esp was horrible; all of those comments were approved by editors/producers to release to the public, like wtf. The first and only time I watched it I was horrified. The way Kai's face fell after every comment about his skin made me want to cry. Baek and Chan were always the ones to take it too far. Asking if Kai wanted to go in for skin whitening??? Even Sehun looked disgusted with that comment (btw its interesting that the members closest to Kai then never made a peep about his skin. Kyungsoo and Sehun knew how much it bothered him.) The members never apologized nor expressed remorse for how they treated him, and I can and will hold that against those who made those comments until they address it. They were in their twenties, and Kai was one of their maknaes who couldn't really fight back.; there's no excuse.
@@Sana-jc9xc Whoa that was rambling (spacing would be helpful with such a long reply btw). Youre assuming a lot with no evidence at all. We dont know what goes on behind the scenes, which is why addressing this topic would be beneficial to fans who are uncomfortable with the members basically bullying Kai for so long, way before pre-debut. EXO is still gaining fans and they are going back to watch all those interviews and shows, and that in itself makes it relevant today. And the name Chan saved Kai's name as in his phone? Inexcusable. I don't care if they finally started to reel back the comments after seeing Kai looking so hurt. Why tf say those things in the first place? Because they actually thought it was funny. And you are defending that.........gross. I dont believe for one second you are a Kai bias lmao. Making fun of teenager much younger than them, since pre-debut, over something he can't control, then saying now its not a big deal. Pls. And yes, many fans would like to see the members apologize. What does how long ago matter? This was only 5 or so years ago that this was happening; which says a lot about their opinion of dark skinned Asians. Holding idols accountable for their actions is not a bad thing; some statements/actions come to light that were years and years ago and just bc time has passed doesn't negate how hurtful or damaging they were. @bts army well ur friend is certainly different... But honestly I dont think it matters how you treat someone if you make fun of them behind their backs...
@bts army yes of course It depends on where you live. It's just that most of these stars are from the WEST where slavery is taught most. That's what makes it hit different. It wasn't racist at all just from watching and thinking about it for a second.
you can tell how uncomfortable kai is feeling when they're bringing up and joking about how "dark" his skin color is, and i feel bad but makes me happy that he loves his skin color just the way it is
Actually the members love his skin tone too. Chanyeol said he envy kai’s skin tone caise he looks more masculin and hot. Even in one video, sehun’s makeup is one shade below his true skin tone (cause he’s pale af) to look a lil bit tan to add hot and sexy look.
I am a Korean and to be honest when idols are celebrities stereotype other cultures I feel offended because it's really rude. But some Koreans say that its fine since other white and black people make racist jokes about Asians. But no! People need to know that racism is a global thing and it's not just for one race and you should respect all races. In kpop there have been many racist things but when that group does something racist the fandom always defends their idol but when another group are racist they attack them for being racist. The fact you are doing is just sad. Your idol and someone else's idol did the same mistake but you attack them. You should never defend your idol and educate them. But other fandoms shouldn't send hate and actually help educate them. Canceling the idols, sending death threats, and defending your idols is not educating. But please remember that not all Koreans are racist. Also, sometimes the entertainment does not let the idols apologize for their mistakes.
Oh, what a beautiful comment, thank you Sometimes we as international fans have a bad image about Koreans , but I'm really surprised that there is people like you

@Jour Den agreed , and its worst because the fans know its wrong but force themselves to think its okay and defend them , wouldnt it be better if they just apologized and addressed the situation ?? normalize holding your faves accountable and normalize them apologizing
I never understood the Kai one. He wasn't even that much (if really any) darker than the other members. What would be the point of teasing him continuously? The viewer can see him so you don't really have to point it out and on top of that, what do you want him to do about it? bleach his skin or something??
his skin has always been really tan to me but??? Also it’s not teasing at first maybe it might’ve been but now it’s just called being plain ignorant they know he gets uncomfortable by that yet they continue as if nothing is wrong about it that I will never get
I can say that as an exo-l it didn’t really look like he was never really bothered by the comments but he has acknowledged his dark skin color before and on multiple occasions after that. Also when xiumin was talking about it he just basically said that it made him look sexy and cute and kai seemed like he was happy about it even though people at the time of exo’s debut weren’t so happy with it and this was at a time when racism wasn’t even taken too lightly in kpop but still. They don’t talk about it anymore but I don’t think they meant any harm by it. Also the comments that Chen made back then were not funny and I have to say this since he’s my bias in exo and what he did was wrong but Chen was never really the type of person to make such ignorant comments like that and you can tell that he regrets saying something like that but it’s not the first time that someone has made comments about it but still
Ya'll forgot Snsd, Snsd tease and make fun of Yuri's skin colour. They call her black pearl which I don't mind but when they call her mud.....I feel uncomfortable. I really feel bad for Kai The pain in his eyes you can tell that he’s not liking it but can’t do anything as he has to stay with his members until the contract ends
I’m tired of these non black people in these comments trying to tell us how to feel about these situations. It’s not your place to tell us to get over it because you will never understand it. It’s not your place to determine what you feel is racist or not.
I'm half black. Koreans have next to no exposure to people of other races/backgrounds. This isn't unique to Korea, it's like that almost everywhere. In this sense, we can safely assume their mocking or stereotyping of black people is as malicious as they might stereotype Americans as fat or Europeans as feminine. I'm not saying what they're doing is right, I'm saying they didn't grow up in the environments we did, where the danger and consequences of racism are real. And so taking it personally only inflicts pointless self harm.
Carth Canten growing up in the same environments mean nothing. People all over the world know about the racism towards black people that goes on. You don’t have to grow up in a certain environment to know. There’s the internet, the news, and plus racism towards black people is so heavy in Asia. So “taking it personally” does NOT inflict any type of pointless self harm. They’re not dumb at all and they know what they are doing. It’s far from pointless too. VERY FAR from personal self harm or hurt. I have the right to feel the way I feel about the situation. The way I feel shouldn’t hurt anybody cause it’s my history and past.
i agree, but most of the time its just ignorance, not really racism, so i think we should try to educate idols about why what they say or do is racially insensitive instead of just 'cancelling' all of them without giving them a chance to learn
I understand that Korea isn’t a very diverse country and some Koreans may not be as knowledgeable about racism, appropriation, and insensitivity, but these are idols. They trained for years, and are in a global market with diverse fans. Somewhere in their training, they should have to be educated about this kind of stuff
I mean I guess a lot of the clips in here did happen a bit before Kpop was a huge thing so there wasn’t as many diverse fans but yes they should still be informed about things like these even more now since there are now more fans from different places. They should definitely be held accountable for their actions.
Lowkey tho, the kpop industry already isn’t the best at treating its idols, so I would assume compared to making them more profitable, diversity isn’t really valued as much

They told me "We can't see you in the dark" or "you're the colour of poop" which made upset. I used to wish that i could be white because of it. The people from a class next to me also recently said the n word to me, i have no idea on why they do that like do they want me to be ashamed? What the fuck is their problem? As an Exo-L I can't hide how bad I felt when they made those comments to kai, I think they were overconfident and didn't ask if those comments bothered him, it seems that they mention it to create a funny atmosphere but there is always a limit, obviously I know that EXO has grown and learned all together, now they love and accept each other as they are, a family. We don't know for sure what Kai thought but I love that he says that despite everything he loves himself, a clear example of self-love.

The comments are full of people fighting over who's right and who's wrong. I apologize if my comment sound ignorant because i didnt know there are some idols apologized too. My main point is to say Namjoon is the only one that got so much hates until today for what he did even when he apologized and educated himself since then. Even when you go to twitter of youtube you will see people cancelling him because of that i didnt see the same hates for other idols. Comments like saying 'doesnt matter if he apologize or not it is still CA' 'You are not black it is not for you to say this' 'idc he apologize or not he still did it' etc just doesnt make sense to me. Everyone makes mistake but that makes you become a better person. You LEARN from that mistake. Sometimes good people make a bad choice. But that doesnt mean they are BAD PERSON. Doesnt care if he apologized? Then what you want him to do? Beg and ask for every people for forgiveness? I dont think you people hating him know they (BigHit and BTS) donate to BLM movement. The fact that namjoon went out to the point that performing in America they change naega( because of the n word)to something else shows how mature and outgrown he is.

Tbh I didn’t see a point in changing it, it’s a word in korean it’s not the N word, him changing it was stupid in my opinion. But I won’t disregard why he did it, which I am proud of him for, and I’m glad he’s grown as a person.
Saniyia Howard did u just say “Karen ok boomer” oh my god lmfaooo it would’ve been more effective if u only used one of those but thanks for the laugh ig. anyways like I said, 내가 and 니가 are KOREAN words like I said. They are NOT racist, they literally mean I and you. They do NOT sound the same, they are pronounced very differently. If you heard 5 korean sentences with the words mixed in the middle, guaranteed you would miss it AT LEAST 3 times, if not more. And as I said, I’m proud of joon for changing it but it was completely unneeded, as it shouldn’t have to be changed because those words are very common and used all the time everyday. If you’re going to stan a korean group you can’t get butthurt over something that doesn’t even exist.
There’s also another situation I wanted to address. Lee Hyori had used the Gayatri Mantra in her song White Snake in a sensual manner. The Gayatri Mantra is a sacred hymn that we Hindus ONLY use for serious worship. It’s meant to cleanse the soul but she has sexualized it in such a a way that is highly inappropriate. It’s downright disrespectful and rude to Indians
I want to like Blackpink but I'm reminded of the How You Like That MV and how they quietly covered up the Ganesha idol lying on the floor with other things (just for the aesthetic) beside Lisa on a throne after it caused outrage. I get that Blackpink members didn't make the set, but considering the disrespect to Hindus, the company should have owned up and apologised, and at the end of the day, it comes to Blackpink, not YG, because I'm sure they knew what happened and should've been aware, if not then, atleast after seeing the reaction, how that scene hurt the sentiments of so many of their fans. If they cared enough, they'd have apologized and said they'd do better. The Hindu religion is not their aesthetic or a costume they can put on and conveniently forget about it.
Adding to my previous comment, everything else they've previously done to disrespect Black and Indian cultures has still not been apologised for. I wonder how long they can go on pretending they never know what they're doing...
@@shiwangi3803 YG is definitely to be blamed, but Blackpink members cannot go on being oblivious to everything, you know. I'm sure they never brought it up with YG; had they done that, the video wouldn't turn out the way it did. Please do not bring up the gayatri mantra here, it is honestly embarrassing. You guys criticize these people for racisim while ignoring that the gayatri mantra is Brahmin supremacist thing, related so deeply to the janeu, another symbol of oppression for the majority human beings of the Indian subcontinent.
I hope Kai and the rest of the members had a talk about it, and I’m glad he came to love his skin tone. As an Asian, I understand how it is. They don’t even realize the effect they have on others when making comments about having darker skin. They might even think it’s a “joke” or just a “small comment.” People don’t realize the seriousness of the issue, and that’s never going to change unless we call it out.
The fact that Hwasa said the n word in irreplaceable when there isn’t even a n word in the song to begin is just crazy. Lmao I came across this video again and saw these comments. At the end of the day she said nigga and she apologized for it. No i do not accept the apology but can I move forward? Yes I can. Also thank you for likes!! 💕🥰💕
Ethan A. Well can you send me a link of the version with the n word because I looked up multiple videos of the original and I still didn’t hear the n word.

This was only 5 or so years ago that this was happening; which says a lot about their opinion of dark skinned Asians. bts army i agree! i think it’s more ignorance than anything. (although there may be some idols that are actually racist, but let’s hope that’s not true) especially with the n word, that’s a word that is from american history and people outside of ameerica might not know what it means other than hearing african american people use it. i had that experience with a german friend of mine, and once it was explained to him he felt horrible. the costumes tho? and the comments about tan skin and such? i will say those really don’t sit well with me.
Kai really suffered with EXO. It seems EXO’s learned from all the times Kai’s been so distraught over it... Lately they’ve been saying sweeter things, like how Kai’s tan skin looks better in crop tops and etc . Hopefully exo have learned, because no matter how strong and confident Kai is, a human can only handle so much... I’m glad exo is being nicer to him these days. But please remember that not all Koreans are
racist. Also, sometimes the entertainment does not let the idols apologize for their mistakes.

his skin has always been really tan to me but???

The people from a class next to me also recently said the n word to me, i have no idea on why they do that like do they want me to be ashamed? What the fuck is their problem? I'm now really proud to be black but i still feel very insecure when they insult me. Being black in germany (or atleast in my city) is very hard.
ughh i live in dumb america and when i was younger my sister took me to this playground with mostly white kids there and i asked if i could play some game with them but they said “no we have enough people” but when they finished this other little girl asked to play (she’s white) and they immediately let her join them and i was confused at first but then i later understood and told my sister i wanted to go home after that and we did. i still remember that day like it’s yesterday, sad.

Cultural awareness is important, and so is accountability, and unfortunately Blackpink lacks both at present.
What the actual hell how did she not get cancelled for that this is so humiliating and annoying

Lay Moo well then can you send me a link. And the fact that the Korean lyrics have the n word in the song is also crazy. Because not even the demo or the original have the word.
The kunta kinte thing is still one of the more sinister things. How can you watch something so traumatizing and evil like Roots and find it in yourself as a grown man to joke like that? To see someone's physical features as a joke? Not to mention the endless amount of black producers that work hard on their music , making them all that money and yet SM couldn't force him to apologize.
