So to add a correction to the video. Nissan's N-VTC doesn't have different lobes on the camshaft that it can switch to, like Honda's VTEC and I-VTEC systems which can change the lift and duration at higher RPM's, instead it advances the timing of the intake cam while keeping lift and duration the same. Similar to Toyota's VVT-I and Mitsubishi's MIVEC systems.

Could there be any confusion with the ECU in this scenario... My first 1994 300zx na - After 5-7 minutes, feels much slower then it does in the beginning - almost like something is holding it back. Cut to my 2nd 300zx - 1995 na. Exact same bolt-on mods - i/e/headers/ud pulley/alum drive - SAME exact issue. After the car gets to temp, its like something is holding the sensitivity/acceleration at my foot. Not sure how to explain it. (Been on all the boards, seems similar issue and doesnt mean anything is broken)
@@griffsmotorthings Cold air = more power. So, on start-up, the engine bay is quite cold and so the intake temp will be low. With the car running for a few miles, it would be that the heat from the bay heats up the air inside the intake, taking away some power from the engine. It's something you also notice with bad aftermarket intake location on other brands.
Truly a timeless design. I bought a '91 NA in grey. I was young and I managed to get the "One Only at This Price" (advertised in the LA Times) from the dealer. It took me all day to get them to "find" the car and sell it to me. Finally the owner of the dealership came out and proceeded to greet me with a stream of F-bombs. Then he told one of his managers "just sell him the F&*^ing car and get him out of here." I still have the car.

Wow! You must really love this car to put it above an F40! In fairness, for the price point, it's hard to beat this classic and timeless styling of the 300ZX. Putting the Z32 in with the F40 and 959 is about as high praise as a person could give this 300ZX. I can’t say I’d do the same even being a fan of 80s and 90s Nissans, but to each their own.
Great review. I really enjoy my N/A. I did a few mods which really opens up the power range. 32 years and no engine issues like leaks or rattles. Everywhere I go someone notices it. People literally turn their heads to see it.
Thanks so much! And that’s great to hear. John also says his have been very reliable, despite the bad press regarding ease of repairs these cars sometimes get. They really are fantastic looking cars. Since this video. I've also had another ECU chipped for 93 oct. and the high flow filters It also gives me better shift points since it's a A/T. The problem with the A/T is that the traction control/ ABS system will kill the launch, but I noticed if I put it in 1st it seems to override the traction control. No way to override that complicated system completely but I seen a traction control system that does. For if I could, I'd get some serious wheel spin. Very fast though from a 45mph launch. Lots of fun. @@LeeDempsey

It really does! It’s very funny that you mentioned/noticed that. I was wondering if someone would. Since you did, I have to admit something… Although that was a really cool shot that clearly depicted the difference in power, the point when I slammed down on the throttle wasn’t intentional. John was actually having an issue with his MAF sensor at the time of this review, and I actually had a very hard time controlling the throttle throughout this whole drive. I typically do at least one, if not multiple big full throttle pulls in every review I do. Did you notice I didn’t really do that in the TT? That’s because the throttle was getting very choppy and cutting out if I hit it too hard. In the corner, I actually had my foot on the throttle pedal about 65%-75% of the way, but I was only actually getting about 40%-50% power. Then the MAF suddenly opened up, and I punched out of the there at about 80%-90% power by the time it hit me! That would’ve actually been a much smoother and progressive fire out of that corner if the car wasn’t having that MAF issue. Nonetheless, it still looked cool, and it certainly showed what the TT can do when it opened up! Thank you for checking out the video though! I love these cars. I’ve owned 8 of them. All of them were 2+0. The 2 I own currently are 1990 slightly modded twin turbo and a highly modded 2j swapped that I built back in 2010. I love them both and I will never sell them
Wow! 8 of them!?!? That’s crazy. I bet the 2J swapped one is an absolute monster. I feel like that is a great example of the best of both worlds as far as looks and powertrain performance. Awwww nooo! Well, it’s not like the new Zs are bad at all necessarily. However, they definitely don’t bring the same nostalgia and raw feel as these cars do. I had a 90 300ZX. Currently have a 20 370z. The 300zx was one of the most beautiful cars when they came. However it also gave me the most problems. Drive shaft, 2 alternators, antifreeze leaking into the interior, power seats giving out. Was stolen after 3 years of ownership. Power was ok but I had an 87 RX-7 Turbo and it was faster. But despite these flaws is was a fun car to drive, especially with the t tops off. I agree about the driving experience, this car was always a pleasure to drive and received a lot of attention.
Thanks for sharing! Sorry to hear that it gave you so many issues though. John says his have been overall pretty okay, but he also clearly doesn't mind working on his cars at all lol. He describes it as, "A labor of love." Nonetheless, these were both very fun cars to drive, and gave me great feelings of nostalgia. Also, I bet that RX-7 was an absolute blast! That is awesome! I’ve never heard of one with that many miles on it. Good for you! I feel like most of the critics’ concerns are not the fact that if it’s a good engine or not, because I believe it is. I think it’s mostly the fact that it can be difficult to work on, especially considering that they stuffed it in that engine bay. 😅😅😅 Either way though, thanks so much for checking out my video! I believe the key is made of titanium. Had a 91 twin turbo and a 90 and 93 base. loved the Champaign gold the best the twin-turbo was such a gas hog. Miss all three such a iconic design. Still have all the beautiful brochures. Miss my red 84 Supra Sport with the killer sunshade on the rear window the most. The current owner of a red 2021 Civic Type R which I will never sell.
No wonder it looks so cool! Hahah thanks for sharing. Yeah, those sound like some cool cars. The 300ZX really does have such a timeless design. These cars are so freaking cool to see. And nothing wrong with either variant. And the engines were solid. Its only achilles heel being the tight engine bay. One being a big reason 3000gt's were forgotten about and being heavy. Wellt he vr-4 was the SL is nowhere near as heavy. Atleast the 300zx is rear wheel drive lol.

That’s awesome! Good luck with your search. To be perfectly honest, I would say the best option for a daily driver would be the NA coupe. There’s a few reasons I say that: First, it’ll probably be the most affordable, and the easiest to find. Secondly, you will hopefully have less issues with the naturally aspirated motor compared to the twin-turbo, purely for the sake of being less complicated. And lastly, if you plan on daily driving it, the targa top is certainly a pleasure to drive, but you have an increased potential for leaks. I think the NA coupe is the safest option for all of those reasons. That’s just my two cents, though! If anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to comment! And what is fuel economy like? Highway at sensible speeds. Too many speed cameras in europe? Does the cruise control work properly? Is there an autobox available?
The Super HICAS will actually go both ways, the same direction as the front wheels as well as the opposite direction depending on speed and rate of change. Great cars that are commonly overlooked for sure..👍
Okay, very cool! I thought it was just the same direction at higher speeds from my research, forgive me. That’s great to know though. Well, I apologize for the confusion. I am clearly not a VVT mechanic. However, I did the most amount of research that I reasonably could prior to filming, and that was the information I obtained. I also watched Donut Media's 300ZX video, AND confirmed what I was saying with John, the owner of these two Zs who knows this car, and it's engine inside and out. Everything I was saying aligned with what Jerry from Donut Media said, and John agreed as well. Therefore, I apologize for it not being perfectly accurate in the video. But, that is how I obtained my information. If you check my description, you can see that I did some more research after the fact after someone else called me out on it, and I believe I have a better understanding of it now. I essentially explained that the car's ECU does not have different size lobes to switch to on the camshaft. In fact, it just advances the timing while keeping the lift and duration of the intake camshaft the same during the intake cycle to allow for more fuel to enter the combustion chamber. Please feel free to read that blurb if you would like. Thanks for understanding! Nonetheless, yes, I thoroughly enjoyed these cars. It was awesome to spend some time with cars that weren't loaded with screens, and still had a very analog and pure driving feel. It kind of brought me back to a simpler time. I disagree, the 300zx was the most successful of his time, continued to sell more even after the supra release. I do agree it deserves more credit along the young guys nowadays.
Fair enough. I guess my point derives from the fact you just stated. A lot of kids in my generation really didn’t love the 300ZX as much as it deserved. I’m not exactly sure why either… I personally didn’t even really care about it up until recently when I started to do more research about it and became a more well-rounded car enthusiast. Maybe it was due to a lack of marketing? Maybe it was the engine packed as tightly as possible in the bay making it finicky to work on?… Not sure. Either way, it wasn’t talked about nearly as much as I felt like it should’ve been during it’s hay day, as well as now. Either way, I hope you enjoyed the review video! @DoubleClutchAutoReviews fast and furious man, you got almost every jdm there except the Z and the 3000gt.....that's the reason. But if you look back at when they were new, along with the NSX (on another price league) the Z was the most wanted and curiously nobody wanted the Supra (in the same price range), damn, Nissan sold more Skyline GTRs in Japan alone then the Supra sold worldwide, nobody wanted one up until the FF. About the enginebay and how hard it is to work on, almost every new car (even 4 bangers) is as hard or even harder to work on and nobody is complaining.
@@JP_SC Makes a lot of sense! It's crazy because the Eclipse got a TON of hype, but the 3000GT really didn't, even though it was a better car IMHO. That's also nuts that the Supra didn't sell nearly as much as the Skylines. I mean, both are awesome cars. I have only driven an R33 GTR, an R35, and a MK5 Supra. No 2JZ yet! You 100% have to respect that engine though. Yet again, a great point you make! I do feel like people are vocal though about how cars aren't the same to work on as they used to be. You now need a laptop too instead of just a toolbox (understatement, but you get my point.) I think the main reason for the 300ZX maintenance complaints are just because that it was built during a time where people were expecting to have more room to work on things in the engine bay, rather than not if that makes sense. That's just my philosophy anyway!
@@DoubleClutchAutoReviews ironically the Z was supposed to be the hero's car in the movie, they last minute swap it for the supra cause Nissan USA didn't want to be associated to the movie
@@JP_SC Wow! That’s crazy… Do you know why Nissan USA didn’t want to be a part of the movie? Obviously, Nissan Japan did. I’m sure hindsight is 20/20, because that seems like a foolish decision nowadays to not have wanted to take part in that. Maybe it was politically related, or they might not have wanted to be associated with “street racing” culture. Weird.

They do deserve it! I would love to visit Australia & New Zealand one day. I am so jealous of you guys that you get to get all of the JDM cars so much sooner than we can here in the states. It’s a 15 year import rule, right?
@@DoubleClutchAutoReviews Hey bro. This model was Australian delivered in the early to mid 90s. You can also import them. A timeless design in my opinion.
One of my most favorite cars was a 2003 nissan Sentra gxe. The car was so slow and idk if it would really handle mods but the 4 speed transmission and the engine in it were pretty solid n the car was well built not even ford expeditions could kill the thing😊
Side by side videos are great really appreciate it . I have a slightly customized 91 twin turbo and I love her, I only was able to drive her for about 8 to 9 mi. yes miles before I had to put a new motor in her - long story! So i was putting a new motor in her when Covid hit and the shop closed with my car all torn apart. That's exactly how I got her back, due to never reopening again. It really is a true love affair, I just haven't been able to do anything with her since the motor enters through the bottom. It's just not something you can do safely in your garage. At least that I'm aware of. Any insight or help from fellow Z lovers would be greatly appreciated.

It really helps me out to grow, and I sincerely appreciate it! 😁 That's such a horribly sad story though! Only 9 miles?!?! Man, I'm sorry. What happened to the motor? That's a double whammy that you literally couldn't even have it replaced because of the pandemic. Terrible timing man. Yeah, if you have to install the motor from below, it seems that the only way you could really do it would be using a lift, and lowering the body of the car on top of the engine. Now that the pandemic is long over, I would highly recommend trying to get it towed over to a different reputable shop that can take on putting it back together. Think of it this way… As your car sits, it's only worth a few grand at best. However, if you put in few more thousand into it replacing the engine, you could pretty much consider your car being worth anywhere between $10,000-$20,000 at that point depending on the condition and everything else. That's just my two cents! I wish you the best of luck man! Thanks again so much for watching. -Mark 😎
As soon as I turn 16 I have a trade lined up for a 1993 300zx tt 2+2, 73k miles, almost nismo everything aestheticly, right hand drive with a full carbon fiber interior. Is there anything that I should consider when having the car or any tips
That sounds awesome! Good for you. What a cool first ride. Yes! Without diving too hard into the typical older buck to younger buck lecture, I certainly do have some tips. First and foremost, RESPECT THE POWER. I know that these cars (even the TT) don’t have a TON of power… However, it doesn’t matter how underpowered a vehicle is. Y ou can still get yourself in a lot of trouble legally, and physically if you don’t take what you are doing seriously. Please take it step-by-step, and drive safely. We all think we are invincible when we are young, but as we get older, we quickly realize we are not. Even if you are a very skilled young driver, I advise you to definitely take your time and work your way up with pushing your skills. This especially goes for twisty back roads. Remember; slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. Only drive spiritedly when it’s safe to do so (no one else around, road conditions are safe, etc.) The responsibility of driving a 4000 pound killing machine is not to be taken lightly! As far as actual ownership of this specific platform goes, I would say one of the best things to do is to start diving into the forums. Try to learn as much about this platform as you can early on. If any issues come up, you already have a relative idea of what some common problems may be. Troubleshooting and diagnosing is more than half the battle with fixing cars. Next, be patient! As stated in this video, these cars are notorious for being finicky and tricky to work on. Try to surround yourself with friends that are knowledgeable good influences. If you’re stuck in a jam, hopefully they can help you with the car if needed. Just make sure to always return the favor when they need a hand too! Also, I would try to look into having some kind of connection lined up, or have a solid idea of what company/website to use to order parts from. RockAuto for instance, is great. However, they don’t always have everything you might need, especially for an older and rarer JDM car. Potentially look into a company that specifically focuses on the Z32 platform and/or other older Nissans to get hard to find/unique parts from. Other than that, keep up with the maintenance, change your oil frequently, and don’t be that upset when you get your first scratch. (Trust me, it will eventually happen. It always does, whether it’s your fault or not.) Lastly, have an absolute blast, and make SO many memories with it. Go on road trips with friends, take pictures, and live it up! how about this my buddy needed to upgrade his car I did the homework and he bought the turbo. I bought the naturally aspirated and really wanted to avoid potential issues with turbo into this day. I will still take the non-turbo automatic.
Just found you, and really enjoyed that review! Well done. I've actually been looking to buy one, here in the UK for a long while now. It's so hard to find one that hasn't been messed with too much! I want as close to stock as possible. I'm stuck on which to choose. The TT for the power, but with the really expensive extras such as 2x Turbos and rear wheel steering. Or the NA, less problems if things should go wrong, it is slower, but it is still quick enough to not be an issue? Can you tell us what the 0-60 is on both?
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that. Please make sure to leave me a like, and also consider subscribing to the channel as well! The subscription is free to you, and it really helps me out! Thanks so much. As far as looking for a clean one goes, I understand that it is very hard to find one that hasn’t been beaten into the ground by some kid, or poorly modified. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that the used car market in the UK is at least very reasonable for buyers, and cars are not outrageously overpriced, so at least you have that going for you. As far as which one to get, if you can find a clean NA, I would absolutely go for it. Driving both of them back-to-back was great for a direct comparison. However, as far as the 0-60 times, I don’t know exactly how these exact 2 cars would do. The TT was certainly faster, but that wasn’t necessarily better in the specific circumstance. Ironically, because John was having an issue with his MAF sensor on the TT, it was not running perfectly at the time of the shoot. The throttle was very touchy, and it actually made for a less pleasurable driving experience compared to the NA because I could not control the throttle as easily, even though it had more power. If you consider the extra cost on top of that, I would be perfectly happy with a clean body and great running NA over an “iffy” TT that’s the same price or more. Not that John’s TT is iffy, it’s actually super clean. However, his running like that was a great example of what problems could happen in the TT over the NA sometimes. Also, the NA was certainly not knock your socks off fast, but it was still an absolute pleasure to ring the RPMs all the way out and huck it in and out of corners. Ironically, I would compare to driving my 1990 Miata “NA” lol. Not fast at all in a straight line, but still super fun to throw it around. The NA 300ZX also looks the part just as well with the same overall design. Sure, you don’t get the nicer front splitter and the decal to brag about, but that wouldn’t bother me. That’s my 2 cents anyway! Good luck with the hunt, and thank you so much again for watching! -Mark
@@DoubleClutchAutoReviews Brilliant Mark, Thanks for your feedback! Yes the used car market in the UK is getting more expensive but still good atm. Still so much uncertainty about the classic car or just combustion engine car market, with so much pressure to get an electric engine now 🤷♂️ I found out the TT 0-60 is around 5.2, with the NA around 7.2. Rough guide anyway. Thanks again 👍🙏
@@jaytei2 No problem at all! I hope that helps. That's good to hear some cars are still affordable out there. But yes, the EV craze is going nuts! I like EVs, and I've had a ton of fun driving a few, especially the super fast ones. The Tesla model S P100D and the Lucid Air Grand Touring absolutely rip your face off when you punch it! Even the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning was hilarious to drive. I would love a choice/variety between EV and combustion in the future though. It scares me that one day we might not have new combustion cars being made anymore... Hopefully we can still have a variety so it doesn't have to be all EV if you don't want one. The 0-60 sounds about right from what I felt. Keep in mind, John also had a chip tune on both of these making about 20% more HP supposedly too. With that being said, a completely stock one might even be even slower than what you saw in the video. Nonetheless, I'm sure you'll be happy with either depending on which one you think fits you best. Good luck! 😁

It’s funny that he said this most advanced 300ZX ever is “analog”. Yes, compared to now, but the exact opposite of what it meant technologically in 1989. If I’m not mistaken, that yellow is the rarest color for that car.
I had a 91 240SX SE back in 99 that had Super Hicas and I wish I still had that car. There’s a 300ZX twin turbo for sale on a lot in my town, but they want $30k for it and I don’t think they’re going to get it. Hell, it’s been there for 5 months. I’d love to have it, but it’s not worth that price
$30k is a ton for that car. The only way I would say it would be worth that is if it were completely stock with insanely low miles and it was garaged this entire life. If that were the case, I may be convinced! Other than that, though, I would say they should be around $15-$20k typically depending on mods, mileage, and condition. That’s just my 2 cents though! I bet you’re ‘91 240SX was really cool though! I currently own a ‘90 MX-5 Miata, and I hope I don’t ever have to sell it. You just can’t get clean examples of cars like that anymore! @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews thanks man. Believe it or not I bought the 240 off my best friend for my old 85 Bronco 2 that was really rough and $2000. I regret selling it because it was a hatchback in Misty Blue and had the Super Hicas which was apparently pretty rare from what I’ve been told. I’m going today to at least check out that 300, and I’ll report what I find out. I decided to subscribe and check out more videos
@@Graver81-69 Thank you so much man! I really appreciate that. I’m sure they certainly are rare nonetheless! And yes, please feel free to keep me updated on the 300ZX! Who knows? Maybe they’ll come down in price. Do you live somewhere colder? Maybe now that it’s closing in on the end of the summer, they might be looking to get rid of it as the demand may or may not be going down over the winter.
@@DoubleClutchAutoReviews I talked to a guy who worked for Nissan in the late 80s and through the 90s and he gave me all of his knowledge on the cars with Super Hicas. I can’t remember the exact number but I believe it was less than two thousand. What gets me about that 300ZX is that it’s been on that lot for over four months. I want to make sure it doesn’t have any evidence of a wreck. I live in North Carolina and in the area I live in the 300ZX never really had a big following which is unfortunate. There are only two on the road and this one would make 3.
@@Graver81-69 Ah gotcha. Yeah, less than 2000 certainly isn’t much. As far as the 300ZX goes, you make a good point. A car being on the lot for a long time is certainly something to make a note of. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a dealbreaker, but I think you should absolutely remind the salesman that you noticed that they have had it for a while. That’ll help with price negotiation for sure. I would go through it with a fine-toothed comb and point out every single flaw that you can. Also make note that those cars obviously aren’t made anymore, and it will be hard to find replacement parts if something does need to be repaired down the road. All of those things should help drive the price down a bit to at least a fair price point, I hope. Good luck! Keep me updated!
I can definitely see that! It has all of the spryness and agility that you would want out of a sports car. Regulators said that pop up headlights were "too dangerous for pedestrians" and made them disappear. But hey, those monstrous SUVs and pickups flooding the market, the same ones that are so high that they literally driver over Miatas because they can't see them seem to be safe enough for them.... go figure lol
Well said! You are exactly right. I'll be perfectly honest with you… I feel like if I had to pick the lesser of two evils, I would much rather get hit by a Miata with its pop-ups on, versus a modern day F-150, or any truck for that matter! 😂 I actually heard of a study done a few years ago that essentially pointed out the fact that roads are becoming more and more dangerous every year. This is not only due to texting and driving/driving while impaired, etc., but also the fact that people are buying bigger and bigger vehicles every year. The study also pointed out that the height of the bumper on your average half-ton pick up truck (F-150, RAM 1500, Silverado, ect.) lines up perfectly with the head of a child of average height... That is not even considering the fact that it's harder for these huge truck drivers to see small children running out in front of them over their massive hoods... Like your friend, I own two Z32's, one an NA and the other TT, both short wheelbase. NA one will get LS swapped, but I will keep it clean. It's not gonna get shitboxed out or over accessorized. I already put Tein Flex Z coilovers, and I'm gonna do 17" or 18" JDM aftermarket wheels that are era-correct. The TT will be restored to as stock as possible. More like $60 - $70K in 2023 dollars, USD.

Hi there! So, I am no expert, but I did several hours of research, and this the most accurate description of this car’s engine/technology that I could gather, and then present in a compacted form to my viewers. I also discussed all of these facts (not just the VVT, but the history of the design and other tech features like the Super HICAS as well) with the owner, John, prior to filming. John is significantly more well-versed with these cars/engines than I am, and he also said that all of this information was accurate and well articulated. I am certainly not perfect (nobody is) so I could have made mistakes, or obtained inaccurate information while doing my research, all unintentionally of course. However, if you feel like you can explain where my description was inaccurate, please feel free to let me know. I will read it, fact check it again myself, and I will gladly admit to where I was off. @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews OP is right, you are way off - it doesn't switch between small and large lobes, it merely advanced the camshaft radially at lower rpm

Great video, cars and owner. Just chrome wheels look tacky, don't know why only Americans do this to great American, Japanese, German and Italian cars - looks really awful.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that. Yeah, John is one of the coolest people that I've worked with on my channel yet. And yes, I also completely understand that… Personally, if I had that TT, I would very quickly change those wheels as well. I forget if he told me if those are the stock ones or not… However, the wheels on the NA were gorgeous in my opinion. The brushed aluminum finish looked absolutely killer combined with that pale yellow! The thing is with chrome wheels is that I feel like only certain cars, particularly classics, could pull them off. @DoubleClutchAutoReviews I had an R32 with GT30 turbos. They were alot easier to get in Canada. But the insurance for any RHD vehicle made it not worth it. I had to pay $8k CND. So I sold it off. I regret not keeping it, even just to sit. I would have made some money, since they have more then doubled in price.
@@Corbots80 Wow, sounds like a fun car! But $8k Canadian a year?!?!? HOLY COW! That’s bad. Especially for an 80’s-90’s JDM? You would be paying more than the car is worth just in insurance if you kept it for longer than 3-4 years… Yeah, obviously hindsight is always 20-20 though, right? You made the best decision for yourself at that moment. A few years ago, I was considering buying a 1-year old Audi from my grandmother, but the insurance for the year was around $2400 USD, and I thought that was wayyyy too much for me! Now imagine if they told me $6k instead?!?! HA! Oh well.
@DoubleClutchAutoReviews it was alot of fun forsure. Alot of attention. I bought the car for $9k. So it definitely did not make sense to pay that much insurance. I had 2 insurance companies give me quotes that were cheaper, before I bought it. And then they both denied me 😡 I ended up spending that money on a Sport bike instead
@@Corbots80 Sounds like a steal at that price! But yeah, that sucks. I love riding too, so at least you exchanged your R32 for something just as fun, but in a different way! What bike did you end up going with? I have a 2005 Yamaha FZ6 and I absolutely love it.

So I'm sure that there are a few out there that have actually been reliable. However, that seems to be the anomaly. More often than not, owners report that the transmissions do not hold up for very long at all, even with casual every day driving. I've heard some people have to get their transmission rebuilt after 30,000 miles. That is absolutely absurd! I would personally never buy one. I also like to drive my cars/motorcycle spiritedly when I get the chance to open it up, so a weak transmission/drivetrain is probably not the best idea for someone like me.
Thanks for letting me know! I thought I did as much research as I possibly could for this video, but clearly I missed that. I will pin your comment, and let the viewers know in the description!

@@griffsmotorthings Could this be caused by a rise in the intake air temp?
@@thomass8118 Can you help me learn what you mean? I'm interested!

The way you fired out of that corner at 20:15 really demonstrated the difference in power!

Still my favorite car.
I sold my Z32 55 weeks ago to buy a new Z and still cry about it. Biggest mistake I ever made ... 3 times the cost but only half the fun.
Awwww nooo! Well, it’s not like the new Zs are bad at all necessarily. However, they definitely don’t bring the same nostalgia and raw feel as these cars do. With that being said, try to look at the positives now! Hopefully you don’t have to worry about as many reliability issues, finding parts, etc. There’s always a bright side!

"55 weeks ago" brother really counting the seconds.
I'd love to review one of those one day too.

Good luck finding good one that is affordable. Lately they are getting real expensive
@@rt2255 Yeah, they sure are, along with everything else. I am hoping that you can try to still find one with low miles and in excellent condition for between $15k to $20k reasonably.

I have a 1990 Z32 NA with over 300k miles and still going strong. Very reliable engine.

"It's very 90's looking." That's all I needed, I want one.
I truly felt like it brought me back to my childhood when these cars were certainly more common to see out on the road. If you can find one, I recommend getting one! Just please try and make sure that all of the regular maintenance has been done to it already, so you don’t have to tear the engine bay apart right after you get it! 😅 Unless you just enjoy working on these type of cars, of course.
They sold in the low 40s to high forty’s from 90 to 96 not the 20s and thirties. Depending on models and N A 2+2 and twinturbo. Today’s money over 90,000. This was last true Z car.

You got that right! I had a great day driving both of these legends around town. It certainly is a very tight engine bay. John, the owner of these 2 Zs, certainly makes it work though! He keeps them going strong to this day. And yes, RWD is always a plus for a car like this. 😎

Looking to buy 1 as daily. Wich one to go? Turbo or NA? coupe or targa?
That’s awesome! Good luck with your search. To be perfectly honest, I would say the best option for a daily driver would be the NA coupe. There’s a few reasons I say that:
First, it’ll probably be the most affordable, and the easiest to find.

I’m sure the opposite direction will activate at slower speeds to help with decreasing the turning radius. They really are under appreciated cars!

That last guy was right u don’t know ur variable valve stuff all to well. But it’s awesome to see someone loving the late 80s-early 90s cars ty
Thanks for watching, and I hope you still enjoyed the video despite my incorrect VVT explanation in the beginning.

Weird.

That's such a horribly sad story though!
-Mark 😎
Is that the stock exhaust on the TT?
It’s actually a Borla Cat-back! Isn’t that soo quiet for what you would expect?
It always does, whether it’s your fault or not.)
Lastly, have an absolute blast, and make SO many memories with it. Go on road trips with friends, take pictures, and live it up!

Still so much uncertainty about the classic car or just combustion engine car market, with so much pressure to get an electric engine now 🤷♂️
I found out the TT 0-60 is around 5.2, with the NA around 7.2.
Good luck! 😁
If only more of these came with OBD2
I have an NA 1990 Black 2+0 77k miles

There is one here in Malta 😊it was 10k now someone wants 20k. 10k was bargain, V6 twin turbo! I still love this car! I had Nissan Sunny Gti, that’s a prototype of this bigger brothers
@@Coa_Kralj_Coa_The_King Yup! That sounds about right. I feel like a lot of these cars used to be a bargain before 2021. Looks nice in yellow.
I agree!
Unless, of course, you want to pay out the wazoo lol

It really helps me out to grow my channel. 😁 I tried to do a quick Google/Wiki search, but I cannot find out how many of them were built with super HICAS.
For distance driving, it’s a super comfy GT tourer.
I can definitely see that! It has all of the spryness and agility that you would want out of a sports car. But it also possesses the ability to substitute as a wonderful highway cruiser if you want it to. To boot, the styling is exceptional. The wheels draw air in to cool the break discs.
for a second i thought the yellow z was a hardtop like mine
The yellow one has had its front bumper painted. It “mustache” should be black or grey like the red one. Nissan didn’t paint the front bumper one color til 95.

I actually heard of a study done a few years ago that essentially pointed out the fact that roads are becoming more and more dangerous every year.
That is not even considering the fact that it's harder for these huge truck drivers to see small children running out in front of them over their massive hoods...

fun fact, they arent ACTUALLY 3liter engines, they are 2.99967 liter engines. this is found inside the oem factory service manuals.
Nice man! I think you have the right idea with your decisions on both cars. I don’t think anyone would be upset for you doing an LS swap on an NA versus a really clean TT. The TT is really cool purely for the nostalgia factor. However, I bet the LS swapped Z32 will be SO much more fun no matter what! That thing is going to rip. Good luck with the builds!

Your description of Nissan's vvt is way off.
Thank you! -Mark
@@DoubleClutchAutoReviews OP is right, you are way off - it doesn't switch between small and large lobes, it merely advanced the camshaft radially at lower rpm
@@mikebaz7843 Okay, then my mistake! What do you mean by advancing the camshaft radially?

100% my friend! Nissan used to be such a powerhouse out of Japan. Sure, thankfully, the GTR is still great. The new Z also seems to be okay, but people aren’t lusting over it.
Otherwise, they pretty much make anything look tacky nowadays IMHO.

Everyone I have known who has owned one including myself has spun the car numerous times and have almost crashed many times due to the super Hicas.

Jatco cvts can go 150000 easy if you don't drive like a merk.
